  1. I got there today around 9:45 and stayed till the end. Our "starting" five receivers are fun to watch: Adams, Bowman, Dressler, Demski and Wolitarsky. That is a really solid group and Wolitarsky again looked good today. Surprise receiving star was Daniel Petermann. His speed was evident early on. He made four really nice catches, the last being in the scrimmage where he jumped up in the middle of the field to nab a high crossing throw. Of the new QBs, Ross was a real pleasant surprise. Streveler looks the part and I was expecting him to really shine but it was Ross who stood out more. Way more arm strength than I anticipated. Had some nice deep completions in the drills.

I was there today. Receivers that stood out in a good way were Petermann, Coney, Corey Washington, Demski and Wolitarsky. Petermann was especially impressive for what I was expecting from him. Demski beat Fenner particularly cleanly on one play. Simonise was very underwhelming with a couple of bad drops. Bowman had a few drops as well, as one would expect. Dressler dropped one but otherwise looked to be shifty as usual. Donteea Dye was noticeable in the sense that he seemed to be the one having the most trouble with the waggle. The QBs all looked more or less mediocre today. Nichols was the best of the lot, obviously but even he had a stretch in skelly where he had about five incompletions in a row. I was hoping that Streveler would blow me away and while he didn't, he still didn't look out of place. Mahoney is easily the weakest of the four. On defense, Brian Walker was tremendous in coverage, as was Randle. None of the new guys stood out though Bingham made a few nice plays. No INTs today but both Walker and Thomas dropped what should have been picks. First team D had Fenner at SAM and Gaitor in Heath's old spot. Steven Clarke was SAM on the second team.

Bighill massively improves the secondary - loffler will play deeper now and QBs will have less time

thankfully now that "apparent"scheme can be abolished never to be mentioned again!! That was the biggest load of crap I have ever heard, I have played in a lot of systems and a lot of schemes and that was basically Oshea falling on the sword for Hall and Hurl and covering up for his deficiencies as we had to end up startig him as things didn't pan out with other mlb candidates...and our ratio.

As much as Harris has meant to the team and fans, he deserves a two year deal. Good for all concerned- the team, fans and Harris.

The wider CFL field means rookie INT QBs need to adjust their pass lanes. That means un-learning some habits. That can take a bit of time and Ross's experience from last year gives him the edge there. And then you've got receivers sometimes running wobbly routes. I noticed Streveler tossed a floater or two to the wide side of the field - those would have been picks if it wasn't the first day of camp. All 3 backup QBs have good arm strength though, Streveler was running the reps quickly and he was able to run a couple of plays that look like they could be deeper than just your vanilla Day 1 stuff from the playbook.

not just good up the middle, but guys up the middle who will put a hurting on the other team. It's really exciting. If they say a team has to be strong down the middle to be a good defense then honestly we are among the best in the league.

A MLB who can fight through blocks, fill the gaps and bring the wood? This has me rubbing my eyes with that gin. Bomber D just got 25% better from the get-go.

  17. Regarding the one year contracts... the collective bargaining agreement is up for renewal after this season. Several players have said the one year contracts were Walter’s idea, so that re-signings would proceed in good faith, under the new agreement. That’s how you get elite FA’s to come to Winnipeg: contender status, strong locker room culture, and a no BS front office. In light of all this the Durant fiasco has done the most damage to Durant himself.

dont be shallow and pedantic. Take a good look at the lions last year, the OL names and some of the coaches run out by bc. The most critical failure of bad teams is failure to recognize and retain good talent. We saw it with the bombers pre walters et al. And plenty of other teams. Its bc now.

  20. The nice thing is that he can transition into a 5th receiver/H-back/sometimes tailback kind of role and maybe take a pay cut. Even if he’s not an every down player he’s got the right passport.

Clearly the belief isn't "Winnipeg is a hell hole"anymore if perennial BC lion centerpiece willing parts ways with BC for under 200k and that's amazing. we didnt overpay and I don't think we had to offer him the moon..

  23. Call this serendipity. If dbag durant hadnt pulled his junk we wouldnt have bighill now. If loffler playing a deep mid field, bighill in the middle rushing the pass, stuffing the run and covering that short - intermediate zone and JSK at WIL, combined with our killer DTs we are as good as any team in the league up the middle. All is well that ends well. And this is a power shifting move for us. We have a db spot or two to iron out, but plenty of vet and talented new comers to fill those spots.

great move...we just solidified the defense and allows a Gause or Wilson time to develop...also not too worried it just a one yr deal...that will be addressed this off-season. Thanks to Durant quiting prob wont need to axe a veteran...if we do be prob a Nevis..or a Fogg and we have the talent inhouse to compensate for that..my opinion is OPO is to valuable all round to get rid of If we press the issue with the cfl to et the 70k back for sms like i think we will then no ned to cut anyone for sms reasons...again..thanks Durant lol

  29. Time to let this thread die. In the long run Durant has done the Bombers a favor. The remainder of his money may have been the difference in signing Bighill, and down the road Bombers will be further ahead if one of the rookie backups develops this year.

  33. So how many American reporters are going to be covering Ticats camp now? It's going to be a zoo over there all season. I'm excited to see what Johnny Football can do in the CFL. Whether he dominates, fizzles out, or fails spectacularly I'm sure it will be fun to watch.

  36. Gallant is the difference - he has his team playing his system - that’s it vegas has way less breakdowns than Winnipeg..,

  37. He’s already made his rounds through Montreal, Saskatchewan, and now Hamilton. He’s not going to be needed in BC or Toronto. That leaves us, Calgary, and Ottawa as the only teams I can see him going to. I think he’d be a nice pick up for us honestly.

when i read the tweet that we signed Bighill I was on the crapper at work and let out a loud "Holy S***!!" ... had someone come knock on the door and tell me to keep up the good work lol. gotta say Walters has done well last few years with some FA's but THIS is the type of signing I've been waiting for, seemingly for decades with various regimes. A highly prized talent from another team coming back to the league and joining the Bombers, not the typical return to their former teams where no doubt a huge level of loyalty may remain (seems to happen a lot with Edmonton and Calgary). I'm not sure if there has been any interviews yet but I'd love to hear the breakdown of how this transpired. Did Walters make him an offer he couldn't refuse or did Hervey deem his current LBs more than adequate enough to not even compete for his services.

  43. The expansion draft was likely too slanted in favour of the expansion team. But really Vegas fleeced a lot of teams who did a very poor job. Can’t blame Vegas for doing a good job. Chevy didn’t get fleeced at all. He handled it well. lets not pretend that MAF isn’t the single biggest reason they are here. They are a good team but He’s stolen games. Good for them.

  47. Because a lot of us on this board have been waiting many hard difficult years to enjoy this, we don't make the distinction between 1.0 and 2.0. They are our Jets. They represent our city, our province so expect some heat if your going to say Im not a Jets fan and cheer for a expansion team while being a Bomber fan for 40 years. Bizarre.

Will be interesting to see whether that continues with the Moose next year. http://www.570news.com/2018/05/04/logan-stanley-mario-culina-share-playoff-mvp-kitchener-rangers/
