It’s strictly situational. There are other situations where they took out Mathews and put Miller in. Other times they took out Couture and put Remple in. It doesn’t mean Remple should start at centre, it just means he has special skills as a long snapper. In the last minute of the game, with the lead, you want to run the ball to keep the clock running. Strevs is a better runner than Matt, so the coaches made the right decision that proved successful. I think it is folly to extrapolate situational decision to mean anything else.

This seems to be an odd poll for a team that is currently 6-2 and first in their division. I will not be voting.

You can't honestly believe the QB alone is the one and only player holding back this team... That's simply a ridiculous and ignorant comment to make. Watching eight games of this regular season would easily demonstrate that what ails this team goes beyond who's behind centre. I get it: the offense the last three games has been nauseating to watch - and Nichols' play has been a significant part of that. But it's not just on him. Unless you expect a QB to play DB and defend/pick off a pass, play LB and not whiff on a tackle, play tailback and not fumble, play receiver and hold on to a catchable pass, play returner and not fumble twice in a game... On Thursday, special teams basically won that game for the home team. Rose's late INT helped seal the deal. This notion the 2019 Blue Bombers live and die based on the play of a single player is patently false and very irrational. Other players have made mistakes this past season, on offense, on defense, and on special teams. Hell, the coaching staff continues to make mistakes, too. There's ample blame to go around and fall at the feet of many. A truly, consistently dominant team is one that limits its mistakes - across the board. That has yet to happen with this team. Even at 6-2, there is so much room for improvement here. And that starts with the coaches and trickles down the roster in all three phases of this team.

Where the “neither” option?

On the fans, its has been 29 years since we've won the Cup. In that time, we've had some very good teams and some awful teams. We've had our hearts broken many times (1993, 1994, 2001, 2007....). Rightly or wrongly, it makes many of us pessimistic because we've seen it all go wrong many times before. Am I happy that we're in first? Of course. Do I feel we have a real shot at the Grey Cup? Yes, I do. However that doesn't mean that Lapo's playcalling or Nichols lacklustre play the past few games doesn't concern me because it does. The bottom line is we're all hardcore fans of the team (you have to be to be a message board regular) and the taking shots at others who disagree with you or express an opinion you don't like is not only childish and petty, frankly its bullshit.

I agree with what you are saying. My major grievance is that despite our record with is great I have great concerns as it relates to our ability to not only win the Cup but just to get there. I do not believe that we will be able to get their unless we can prove we can thrown downfield and stretch the defense. Failing to do that IMHO will doom us when it counts. I also do not believe we will achieve what we all are wanting ( A Grey Cup Victory) with our current QB. This is solely my opinion and I do not expect everyone to agree with it. And as one of my old bosses use to say "Exception Noted".

Well, actually OTT is tied with us for 2-and-outs. Although our 2-and-outs (44) are above league average (35.6), we also still lead the league in the following offensive categories, despite the bad road trip to Ontario: - Offensive touchdowns (23) - Overall touchdowns (25) - Passing touchdowns (15) - Rushing yards (982) - This is particularly good, considering how much more frequently SSK attempts to run the ball (SSK has 187 rush attempts, we have only 151 but still manage to lead the league in rushing yards). We are also 2nd only to EDM in passing efficiency (EDM - 104.5, WPG 102.6) I'd be more concerned with the high number of two-and-outs if we didn't maintain the ball offensively for so long, the two other teams with more two-and-outs (OTT, TOR) are also dead last in average time of possession (25:38 and 26:46), whereas the bombers (32:34) are much closer to the top average (MTL - 33:16). This is indicative of OTT and TOR having to change their strategy to more pass-happy because they play from behind more often. This in turn is riskier, and thus results in more two-and-outs. Changing your starting QB or offensive coordinator when you're 6-2 is nothing short of ridiculous.

Sure, we could've said the same thing about the 7-1 2011 Bombers as well. What happened to that team when the turnovers started to dry up? You can't rely on returning kicks for touchdowns to win and the offense has to be able to score the ball.

6 and 2 yup. If Nichols could close a game it would be 7 1. 6 and 2 is great but u got 3 teams now at 5 and 3 also. 7 and 1 gives you cushioning. 6 2 and a loss next week means likely tied for 1st. The QB play is inconsistent. It needs to improve. Our o has talent, our QB needs to be better. 6 and 2 yup but with average quarterbacking not ridiculous fancy stats like passer rating... 8 and 0. Both games we lost because our QB sucked.

Jones is pretty unlikeable too. Maas at least does it in the heat of the moment. Jones plotted out being a jerk.

Time limit seems too short. Think it should just be if they can't play by midnight local it's called, provided the team with the lead is up by 17+. Otherwise they need to figure out how to resume the game the next day. Most stadiums would not be booked.

You need to look at the strategy LaPo employs, Nichols throws the check down because it's a given gain, the objective is to avoid the 2nd and 10 situations which often lead to two and outs, stalling drives short of Medlock's range. They can't run Harris on every down, so better to pick up 5 yds. on 1st down than taking the greater risk of throwing an incomplete pass and facing 2nd and 10 with the D anticipating the 10 yd. pass. If the primary receiver is open great, but it's not always the case. Give credit where it's due, it may be a boring conservative strategy but it does move the ball effectively and consistently which produces a majority of wins, even if some fans don't like it. I don't think Nichols gives a rat's ass about his stats. and LaPo is not in the entertainment business, he prefers to count body blows which wear down the opponent rather than throwing hay-makers attempting to knock them out cold.

This reeks of TSN's influence. The longer they have to wait it out the higher the production costs for tv and they don't want their crew waiting longer than they need to. Plus they would be splitting their CFL audience in two with 2 games occurring simultaneously for an hour or so. There is a desperate need for competition for tv rights when the contract is up in 2 years.

Why do teams on 3rd and short go in Shotgun format for the hand off.... I'd love to see the success rate because it seems like it rarely works compared to the normal big formation up the gut.

It's just a complete embarrassment that a league that prides itself on exciting finishes ends a game after 3 quarters. It is a complete rip off.

I was thinking about that today. Maybe the hall defense and plop offense is just how the game in CFL is gonna be played under this set of rules and enforcement. Not a thought I relish. I feel like the core of the old west coast style of offense is gone and the maligned bones remain.

I'm not a huge Harris fan at all (flakey when times get tough, not good in cold weather, apparently a bad team mate) but unquestionable he's a better qb then Nichols is. He is able to go through more then one read and able to throw the ball down the field. Nichols in the last 3 weeks has been better then who ? Pipkin and Jennings... hardly anything to brag about. Fajardo is even better which is sad.

Bad rule and a bad way to treat Montreal fans just when the team is giving them a reason to come to games. really do not like this rule change to solve a non existent problem .

Well he never turned ball over...got us in position to kick 2 field goals...another where we failed on 3rd and short...and put up 33 some odd minutes of time of possesion...effectively keping Cgy off the score board...there is that aspect that can't be understated Maybe it's football gods shining down on him for many many many games in 2016 and 2017 where he put up over 30 points as the QB and we lost because our defense couldn't stop a JUCO offence consistently

I honestly don't want to wade into this big pissing contest, but here's one thing I know: I've seen a lot worse teams with a lot worse QBing than we have, win the GC. I'm not saying "we're gonna win!" but I'm saying "we're good enough, and Nichols is good enough to win".....it doesn't have to be pretty to get the job done.

I’m wondering to myself - if the Bombers are in first place, won more games than any other team, but there is such pointed anger to not playing the way a fan envisions, is it the Bombers fault? If it’s so hard to like and appreciate the current standings, why not pick a team that suits a fans expectations better....
