Coach's Show
Logan007 and 11 others reacted to Pete Catan's Ghost for a topic
Here's the paraphrased version of the one hour OSH/Irving interview. You may find a few nuggets... if you squint. The Offense This team’s offense is coming together as fast as any he’s worked with. OSH credits the mini-camp for some of this early progress. Playing time for QBs Looking to play Willy enough to see what’s what. “If he looks sharp, then we will move down the line…It’s a matter of balance”. OSH says he listens to all players as to the amount that they feel they need to play during the pre-season (?!?). He discusses his perspective vs. theirs when determining playing time. Keeping players healthy & fresh during training camp is paramount. Injury update: Kyle Knox Kyle Knox saw the Doctor and will need further tests. “I hope that he will bounce back quickly. He’s a great guy and athlete”. Macho Harris Macho very quickly has shown what he’s got; “he is a super likeable leader with tons of experience and is very versatile”. We see no problem in playing him where we need him. He’s a good compliment to Mo Leggett…possibly a good bet for Safety. Randle & Bucknor Randle needs to shake off the rust and “will get back to where he was”. “Bucknor has had a very nice camp and worked his tail off during the off season”. ACL Injuries & Anderson Carlos Anderson was brought back. OSH did not divulge who made the first call, player or team, but in discussion with staff, OSH says they needed to work him out because he was so close to making the team last year. “Once he made some cuts in camp I wondered if he was wearing a brace and he wasn’t. He is a dynamic, dynamic player”. Kick Returning Carlos A, Veltung, and McDuffie are candidates along with Fred Williams (interesting!). Feoli G. - “looks in great shape and is as sure handed as anyone in camp”. “I’d rather not have Dressler return kicks but I’ll put him in for spot duty”. Dressler has also been holding for Medlock. Pascal Lochard “He’s missed the last few days, but he makes his cut at a nice late point in pressing the run. He impressed us in interviews and is good on STs”. Addison R “His efforts are there and he’s improving steadily. I see very steady improvement. We weren’t sure he would be ready for camp. He says that this is the best he’s felt in years.” The Hogs in General; Chung & Goossen Specifically “Very talented players and competition have been brought in to push the vets. Any woes that people talk about don’t rest on their shoulders”. “Better now than they were their first day in camp this year. They’re both a pleasure to watch. Matthias is becoming a true centre that embraces the role. “Sukh rolled out on a play today and was hauling it down the field… looking for someone to lay into. It was a pleasure to watch on film”.. “The OLine will be a big reason we will win games this year and are not our Achilles Heal”. Import Receiver: Thomas Mayo “He’s an explosive player that has become the most consistent in camp. It’s up to the games for them all to show what they can do, but they all have their moments”. 11 Days between Pre-Season and Regular Season “I love it. It will allow the guys to come out flying for that first game”. First Pro Game Jitters “I remember taping my wrists so tight that my hands were purple. I know I must have been nervous until my first whack…It’s a great game”.12 points -

And for those wondering, he ABSOLUTELY will tear a strip off players if they deserve it. Behind closed doors. I know of at least one player he tore into last year. Deservingly so. Just because we don't hear about it doesn't mean it's not happening.4 points

The Riders were a whopping 11 games over .500 in that "decade." I would hardly call that dominance...but I guess for the Riders it would be given their history.3 points -
OK 7 QB's that's the front seven ... now what about the rest of the defense? Anyone else think this is kind of stupid?3 points

Last year was last year. Harris was fine a couple years ago under hall. I feel people aren't giving Harris a fair chance. What if he just wasn't used properly last year. Besides we will see what happens in the pre season games3 points -
No, just that if we're going to start wringing our hands over all the bad things that could happen with our draft picks 36 months from now, free agency is more likely than the NFL. If I were to spend any amount of time thinking about what will happen 36 months from now, I would use logic based reasoning as I normally do, and would come to the conclusion that if Corney were to not explore NFL options at that time that the chances of him re-signing with the Bombers would be very high, as unlike Muamba (as an example), he does not have any significant family ties here in Canada that I know of, and that any roots he puts down here during his 36 months in Winnipeg would greatly exceed the draw of any other CFL city, and that if he is as good as we hope him to be, we will have budgeted enough money to retain him with 36 months of planning to do so. But it just seems silly to do any of that before he's played a single down, even in exhibition, so I won't.3 points

I'd be skeptical that the average fan cares too much about who the GM is. Every fan cares about winning/losing, the minority, such as the types who go on forums, care about other the behind the scenes stuff. If merch is down significantly, I'd be surprised if that many people didn't buy merch because of who the GM is.2 points

I've been using Castaway on Kodi lately for sports and have had decent results. It's basically an updated version of sportsdevil if you're familiar with that addon. I'll see how it does for CFL once pre-season gets going.2 points

I would guess he knows the next question would be "then why did you say....." and he likes to control the message, not have them control him. Possibly he also believes its so obvious he isnt racist (not saying its obvious, saying HE thinks its obvious) that he considers the question stupid and irrelevant and therefore must be a set up.1 point -

and that's how it should be. Give em **** when they need it in private and don't make them worry about having to read it in the paper or hear it on the radio. Most people prefer that when there are problems they are brought to them in person.1 point -

I'm pumped for: - The bombers looking awesome in their new duds! Except I'll be listening to the radio stream so I'll just have to imagine it. - Waggoner and Loffler taking reps - Carlos Anderson tearing up the field. Seriously rooting for this guy. - Macho Harris playing himself out of the MBB whipping boy role. - Punting. Billy Pavs has a big leg but does he have Medlock's precision? - Hoping for a flash from the bottom two QBs and hope it's not a Marve-type illusion.1 point

Dee Urban Hermit reacted to JCon for a topic
I found the park and ride system to be the best means to get myself and my son to and from the games. My issue has been with the disorganization after the games, including where and when to load the buses. Sometimes they load at one spot, sometimes another 10 feet back (or forward). Wouldn't matter except that there is no formal queue system, so it's every person for themselves fighting to get on. There are some really observant and helpful people who try to help those in need get on. That does not include the Transit supervisors who create the mess. They are indifferent to suggestions or complaints and are strictly worried with no one crossing the street to load before it's time. They don't care where the bus stops or make any attempt to help with the queue. They also choose to load one bus at a time (at the start), which would make sense if there are only a few people trying to get on. However, when you have thousands, it actually delays the departure of buses and does not help. Of course, that's all thrown out the window after 15 to 20 minutes when all the buses seem to open their doors. Once you get on the bus, all is good. I find it fast and efficient; however, the mess they create leading up to that point is exasperating.1 point -

I have the utmost respect for people who had seasons tickets through the Al Ford years and carried on as hardcore fans through Danny Barrett and Roy Shivers, and got rewarded for their loyalty in the good times. The problem is, there are VERY few of those kind of fans. Real fans. No question, the Riders have way more passive "fans" than any other team in the league, and that's how they get so much merch sales. But I've said before, and I'll fight for this forever, that the Bombers have way more hardcore, real fans, who are there through the bad times and good. We just don't have as many passive fans...1 point -
This about sums most of them up.1 point

Who the hell even needs to cross Portage and Main? Waaa...it's going to take me a whole extra minute to cross a street before and walk a little extra. Either put up some kind of a walkway or don't do anything at all. Winnipeger's already don't know how to work a roundabout. This will just confuse the hell out of them.1 point
-
Why do fans crap all over Nicholls when last year we had Brohm & Marve to poop up the field after Willy went down? When he got here for a 7th round pick he had to deal with a garbage OL, the worst receiving corps in the CFL, no run game & an OC with no imagination who couldn't make adjustments during games. Considering everything, he played well.1 point
