What this game showed me is that we really need to consider bringing in a veteran qb who can actually give us a chance to win if Collaros goes down. Not folding our  our tent & going home as the season is finished. With Brown & Prukop the season would be over.

Why did you write this and then bring up the idea of finding a rookie when someone questioned you on who these veteran QBs are?

The CFL is so QB poor right now it’s unbelievable. There are no veteran QB safety nets waiting to be picked up, hell there aren’t any period. Even Streveler, who gets treated like a potential saviour, can’t throw the ball well enough to do anything other than be a change-of-pace look. His value is as a complimentary piece, not a focal point.

Ottawa, Edmonton, BC, Winnipeg, Saskatchewan, Calgary, Toronto, Hamilton are literally all going with young backups. Trevor Harris is the only guy who fits this criteria you want and he’s not available.

so again … WHO? And don’t babble on about USFL rookies and such.

I think people underestimate Strev's throwing ability...he was doing quite well as a raw as can be raw rookie his first yr....and in yr 2 was never allowed to work on, or develop as a more proficient passer...was soley used as a run first...gimmick/confusion QB ....and that falls directly at the feet of LAPO and stagnating is development....like many a receiver that came thru here.

you can argue this about LAPO as much as you want, but I know for a fact a few receivers balked at coming here because they didn't want to hurt their earning power being in his offence in future deals...

Strev has been away now since 2019....you don't know how he has developed, and also he wouldn't have bounced around in the NFL as a one trick pony....thats not how they work....he was behind 8 ball from get go being a recruited CFL guy...undrafted...along with other NFL politics, and seen that as soon as he left, and that it would be a continuous merry go round from back-up/PR to Back-up/PR....hopefully now he has banked some dollars and wants to get back to actually playing at a decent salary

If he makes it known he has given up on the NFL...It should be a no-brainer that Kyle brings him on....Prukop is the easy decision to be gone, as well as his salary which has to be over 100k....and you make it work...if it means we dont go hard at NFL cuts...so be it as we will be getting an addition in BA at some point which will be just as big as an NFL cast-off

I also believe the narrowing of the hashes will be extremely beneficial to some one like Strev as db's and LB's are gonna have to start respecting the outter edges now, and a lot of cheating may be going on pre snap, and it will open up a lot of running lanes

I also recall when he first arrived here...after practice before he was signed and was put through all the route tree routes and if he could make the throws, and he killed it...and also was put through paces of target practice and hitting the net at various spots on the filed...and killed that too...and I was like who the eff is this dude??....

He gave us a chance, and was vital for us in helping winning a cup...one one leg...imagine what a healthy, and yes more polished Strev would do with this offence, and majority of guys he's familiar with.....make it hapen

I thought both QB's ended up showing quite well. I don't know what people were expecting exactly (you know with the roster around them). I was totally on board with Brown as the #2, but man did Prukop ever come out in the 2nd half and make some plays. Prukop impressed me more than Brown in the 2nd half. But I think Brown still has the edge due to his style of play. Would suck to lose a guy as athletic as Prukop though. And yes I know, the Bombers will be in tough if Collaros gets hurt...welcome to pro football. The only team that will actually get better with an injured starter is CGY, everyone else is just hoping the young guys can hold on. MTL is hoping Harris can some how figure out how to score points...

Also I'm not at all sold on Thompson as the safety. Guy can hit like a truck, but much like Loffler, seems to be a step too late to actually break up the play. Alexander can't get healthy fast enough.

The other problem is money... if you want a backup with experience that can actually play, you're looking at probably 200k.... Mtl got a nice discount on Harris at 175k...

So @SpeedFlex27, if this experienced qb were available, which area of the team would you be comfortable downgrading to accommodate the back QBs salary?

i'd say the Riders too....lol....and not just cause its fun to rag on the Rider's, but Faj ain't the guy who will get it done, as much as TSN wants to push that narrative....Can't recall who said it on air...but basically they were bang on in saying 2021 Faj was the corrected version...he surprised people his first yr, and bulk of his 'decent" play was in first half of yr...but once there was film he started to wilt...especially when it was know his intermediate and deep shots were lame ducks...he was successful at first as teams didnt expect him to go long...and were caught off guard...look back at a lot of his initial deep shots...receiver had to stop...come back....leap and make a circus catch...was horseshoe up da ass plays...and he is mentally weak as seen last 2 yrs...and not a real leader as you would never see a leader toss his receivers under the bus...or whine like he did about social media

One more thing, the first riders TD pass. The ref in the back of the endzone called PI...they didn't discuss it at all during the game, but holy hell was that ever a bad call. The defender barely touched him, certainly didn't do anything to impede his ability to catch the ball. I couldn't believe they called that one.

There is a reason that the Riders are paying almost ten percent of their payroll to two jump ball specialist receivers.

Totally! It was ridiculous. Of course, Suitor was stroking <insert random watermelon head>'s ego.

And Nielson was just so amazed by football. He really needs to get over being new and finally settle in.

why does Jamie Nye yap about Rider depth at receiver in regards to last nights game....a bunch of nobodies doing basically basic standard stuff a pro should do against another basic group of nobodies?....I guess we should have extreme depth as we had probably the better big plays...more yards and won?...what a tool

Their 2 projected starters...albeit not in game long didn't tear things up...

Dru Brown info  most important. John madden and dru played for the san mateo  bulldogs!

Also

"His work ethic stood out to coaches

Coming out of Los Gatos High School under the coaching of Mark Krail, Brown drew high praise as the hardest worker — and best player — on the football team.

“When I coached him it was the best thing in the world because he was our best player clearly, but also our hardest worker,” said Krail. “So when your star is leading the pack in sprints and conditioning and drills, others tend to follow along.”

His QB coach, Adam Tafralis, says his work ethic is what Brown worked on relentlessly to overcome his lack of size and tangible qualities that kept him from being a heavily recruited QB.

“Dru’s a guy that understood that ‘OK I’m not being recruited as high, I’m not doing things coaches might not like, so I’m going to out-work everybody in the process.’

This weekend Oklahoma State added former Hawaii starting quarterback Dru Brown to the mix for 2018 via graduate transfer, giving the Cowboys a much-needed injection of experience to an inexperienced stable of gunslingers for 2018.

Brown could potentially be a nice stopgap between the Mason Rudolph and Spencer Sanders eras, a quality backup, or even a quality starter. In two seasons with the Rainbow Warriors, he threw for 5,273 yards and 18 touchdowns while leading Hawaii to 9 wins during that span.

You may have seen some of his highlights or, if you’re a diehard Rainbow Warriors fan (go Rainbow Warriors!), you perhaps even recognized the name of the team’s two-year starter. But for those who aren’t flush with knowledge of Hawaii football, here’s a refresher on what type of player OSU is getting.

1. Lightly recruited meant JC route

Like current Cowboy Back Sione Finefeuiaki, Brown, a San Mateo, California native, went to College of San Mateo where he spent a season out of high school. Because of his diminutive frame and lower profile in high school, he wasn’t a hot commodity as a two-star prospect.

Coming out of high school he had zero scholarship offers and took the junior college route out of necessity before accepting a scholarship offer, his only offer, to Hawaii after a one-season run in his home city two seasons ago.

2. His game is similar to that of Baker Mayfield

I don’t mean to go en fuego on a hot take here, because to compare the two might be borderline blasphemous. But Brown has a sneaky good game and, like, Baker, is plenty mobile.

Similar to Mayfield however, Brown’s not necessarily a run-first QB. But he has the ability to escape pressure, make throws on the run, and move the chains with his legs when needed. That will allow Cowboy coaches to roll him out, move the pocket, and give defenses unique looks it couldn’t do with Rudolph.

He might also be a first-team all confidence starter like Mayfield, and I kind of dig it."

"He should be familiar with OSU’s offense

Making the leap from Hawaii to OSU might seem daunting, but the offense he comes from actually has a lot of similar concepts which could usher in a smooth transition.

Hawaii, like OSU and many other programs, ran a lot of Run-Pass-Option (RPO) plays — plays that gave Brown the freedom to decipher if the team would run, if he would pass, or if he would tuck it down himself given what particular look the defense showed."

ie... smart

what the deal is there is that those tools have to scrape up anything remotely positive to feed to their gullible glutoness fan base....even to the point that actually critiquing the opposition (who in this case is us and simply better) with blinders is their folly.....Simply put they can't accept the fact that we are a better club and do everything in their power to not recognize that fact.....The green guys and their fans just lap it up

Riders draw ratings.

That's why they kiss their ass. Ratings and clicks online.

I think of the ticats as riders of the east. Media darlings loved by tsn and online bloggers and the sorts. Why? Maybe cuz Vancouver Edmonton Calgary Winnipeg Toronto Montreal and Ottawa have other pro sports teams they care about more and sask just has the Riders?  Hammy just has the Cats but they hype the Cats yearly too. All about them clicks and likes now

I guess why again? Cuz a guy in Winnipeg is talking about sask at the moment and Hamilton and not about the team he cheers for? Lol I dunno.

Sask tho, I can see why. They are a circus. Yearly. I've never had issues with their fans personally but... they appear obnoxious and borderline physcotic so.. that draws.  It's entertaining. A weird group. It's not their fault tsn tries to make them the good guys. They need to embrace the heel role. Tsn? Stop blatantly cheering them on? I dunno. You can't force the rest of us to enjoy the constant ass kissing. It can't be good for the league for broadcasters openly cheering for certain teams

Both QBs did show their potential and both wound up making it a hard decision for backup but Brown showed flashes early and poise where Prukop seemed to take a little longer to get going. IMO,Dru should get the start behind Zach as if we get going a little too late then the game may be more than over at that point.

I don't mind Nielson at all and his questions, still beats Rod Black behind the mic for even a second

The little bit of playtime Strev's seen in the NFL he hasn't looked incredibly out of place throwing the ball either.... he really only had one terrible ball and that was mostly because he thought it was a free play.

Yeah he had a few really good drives with arizona.

We never used streveler well. His tool set and athletic ability are tremendous but so is his work ethic and toughness. Give that guy an agreeable OC that can actually coach qbs and the helm of a team. He'll be better than fajardo and take his team to the play offs and wont lose it for them.
