At this point, debating how good Reilly is....is a waste of time. Guy is real good. Still a team game though, and that 700K is surrounded by quite a bit of junk....

Reilly also missed a wide open Carter on the first play of the final drive of the game, possibly a go ahead touchdown. Instead he underthrew it giving the defender time to catch up, something that Nichols would’ve been ripped apart for on here. I think Reilly is a great QB, but it seems that some here put on blinders to the mistakes that other teams make. I watch every single one of these games, and I’m confident in saying that the Bombers, with Nichols at the helm, would’ve beaten both of those teams last night. On Thursday, Nichols had three deep passes. One to Matthews was called back because of a penalty. One to Adams resulted in PI so we got the yards, but they didn’t count on Nichols’ stat sheet. And the one to Lucky we all celebrated. That’s another 100 yards in passing that wasn’t counted on his statsheet, as no fault to him, that people just choose to ignore, much like people ignore Reilly’s mistakes last night. Let’s not even get started on Bo Levi and his unbelievable contract. You’d really rather have that guy for $900k or whatever the hell it is? Would our team be better with Reilly or Mirchell as QB? NO, because we would have to lose several of our best players to make it happen. Reilly’s team missed the playoffs last year and is 0-3 this year. Until the salary cap is lifted, you can’t just build a team with one player. I’ll take our team, the team that beat the second best team in the west on Thursday, and the team that almost beat Calgary last night. And in terms of the last two times both Nichols and Streveler played Edmonton last year? Nichols won in a blowout, Streveler lost. I 100% thinks streveler is our future QB, but Nichols is the present and I’m more than ok with that since we’re the only team not willing to mortgage our future on one guy. Thank god Walters is our GM.

The one play that stands out to me is the failure by the Lions to score from the 1 yard line at the end of the second quarter. Reilly is a big QB and I can not remember the last time anyone stopped him from gaining at least a yard. And to boot if I remember the play correctly, the Stamps defense stopped him right over where Chung sits at right guard. And Chung is known for his run blocking abilities from what I can remember. That IMHO might have been one of the pivotal plays of the game.

Not that long ago the Bombers could move the ball but couldn't score touchdowns, it was all field goals. Those days are over. top scoring Offence last season, two extremely dangerous, almost unstoppable players added this season; (can't "scheme" to stop Whitehead, he's just too good) However you rate Nichols, it's safe to say the Offence will be very good, with him running it. It's fun to follow, and I don't mind the back and forth, that's the point of the forum, but it's irrelevant.

We've gotten 2 wins in two tries with him at the helm. Neither Mitchell or Reilly can say that. Are they better quarterbacks? Maybe, but thankfully, football is a team game and this team is winning. Funny how quickly we forget the days when we weren't, the days when we were trying to figure out how many wins we might get and whether that would be enough to get us into the playoffs. Nichols isn't the best qb in the league, but maybe, he doesn't need to be.

Next thing, the detractors will start complaining about Nichols emulating Vince McMahon as a touchdown celebration.

Nichols is a good short to medium passer in my books, iffy on the long balls. Not as quick as he was with his feet at one point, but the number of injuries the guy has had to his legs that happens. I think he's generally got a good attitude and leads the team but has on occasion lost it. He has shown the ability to regain that in the past though. No one is claiming that Matt Nichols is the pinnacle of a quarterback, all people are saying is that he does some good things out there and has done some very good things for this team so the people who come in here and treat him like he's TJ Rubley are out of line. No one is claiming that Matt Nichols played well against Edmonton, all we are doing is arguing this insane talk that he's a trash quarterback because reasons. I mean Mitchell and Reilly are the top quarterbacks in the CFL no questions asked. On paper Harris might appear better than Nichols but the results don't match up to the numbers for Harris in my opinion and I have Nichols and Harris as a teir below the top guys, you want to put Harris ahead of Nichols I'll go with that, but it's not some huge gap between the two of them based on the results. Masoli I don't believe is all that good. beating up the weak sisters of the league right now doesn't make him an elite quarterback. So yeah, barring paying 3/4 of a million per year for a qb we're doing OK at the position.

I know players are allowed to make the money while they can as their careers are short but I'm enjoying Chungh going 0-3 & the qb he is paid to protect getting pummelled.

That's the difference between Matt Nichols and the elite QB's in the CFL. When you absolutely NEED a drive, whether it be to come from behind and win or to put away an opponent for good, the elite QB's do it. Matt Nichols does not.

Absolutely. Bad gameplan, without a doubt. And Lapo never strays from his plan which is his second worst quality behind the way he calls a game with a two touchdown lead. However, there were plays to be made in that game and Nichols completed 46% of his passes on 32 throws. That’s pathetic and not on Lapo. Guarantee you that having Nichols as his QB makes Lapo terrified to make a gameplan that doesn’t heavily feature Harris.

I thought Matt Nichols had a good enough game for what we need from him in the first game. I did not think he had a good enough game last night. Does anyone have any idea of how much we're saving and able to deploy elsewhere when we compare his salary to that of BLM, Riley or Harris?

Nichols definitely did not play well yesterday.
