  1. Found this interesting: If that's the case, I would not be surprised to see Jones gets canned if the L's don't turn things around in the next few weeks. They are going up against the Redblacks, Riders and Ticats over the next few weeks so this is their best shot at getting a win. https://3downnation.com/2023/06/28/temperature-check-evaluating-which-cfl-head-coaches-are-on-the-hot-seat/

  2. From Jeff Hamilton: The CFL once again shows how spineless it is by giving Chris Edwards a "maximum fine" rather than a suspension for his gutless stunt against Alouettes receiver Austin Mack, where Edwards pretended to shake his hand before delivering a sucker shove. Same guy who swung at a fan. That was a terrible display of unsportsmanlike conduct. Hamilton should suspend him.

  3. But they are all in to win for this season and the next two. There’s not really a point in holding a roster spot for a developmental QB that if they pan out will be ready just in time to sign their third contract with another team. If they aren’t willing to play him there’s not much point in keeping him. I mean if someone is willing to stay on PR and put in the time, sure. But Pigrome has a baby and can probably make more working a real job or pursuing arena ball/spring leagues next year. I don’t get all the people shitting on Brown. He’s been a great backup coming in and playing well against actual pros when needed. Can’t get too far ahead of yourself watching a guy tear up a bunch of small conference FCS guys with the odd actual prospect mixed in.

  4. I don't like cutting pigrome. Guy was arguably the most exciting recruit they had in training camp. Seems a shame to toss that aside for Prukop who will never be more than a short yardage specialist. Good qbs are so valuable in this league, why use a position on a guy like prukop before you really know if you have anything or not.

Jets had one year of control left a month ago, but Dubois, as an RFA did not yet have a contract for next year so there is no deal to be voided. Also, the Jets did not retain any salary in this deal. LA is on the hook for the whole shebang. The return was larger (i.e. the 3 players plus a pick) as PLD is now locked into for 8 years instead of the uncertainty of only having 1 year of control prior to UFA status.

  9. Just like Thomas didn't make the team for making one sack, Pigrome didn't lose his spot because of one failed sneak. Definitely more to it.

  10. Lawson back at DT and Jeffcoat as a rotational DE would be huge pluses for the DL. Damian Jackson can hopefully become a memory that we complain about.

  11. I don't know if I accept those answers. We watch a few snaps of a preseason game and "declare" certain guys are better then guys the coaching staff has seen for a couple years? I wasn't as impressed with Salima as some of you, certainly not enough to say he's better than McCrae when they're two different types of runner. Mohammad has been here a week, it's still possible he get in once he gets his feet wet. I have no problems with him needing to prove himself in the room before he gets on the field. I have a problem with the team's roster management, no question. But when we find better players, they get on the field. But it can't just be one flashy play in a preseason game like a sack or big run, it needs to be how they play every snap. Everyone loves to tout FIFO as our teams success, but this part of how it works too.

  13. I really hope for the sake of Winnipeg football fans everywhere that one day we see Strevs back in Blue and Gold for one or maybe two more seasons. Even if he is just the "change of pace" guy again. Man do I miss those days when he was here. 2019 will forever be a magical season much like 1984 and 1990 for me.

  17. If they can't win this week then I think he gets the axe. They are completely lost.

  18. I don't really understand the narrative that Piggy somehow showed us something great in pre-season? It was pre-season, against a terrible team, playing their soon-to-be cut training camp players. Was it fun? Absolutely, but he is also very raw and the opposition knew nothing about him. He needs lots of development and the Bombers have prioritized experience.
    3 points
  19. When Thomas gets picked up by another team and starts and stars we can re-visit “he is better”. He had a good pre-season game, and Tyrell Pigrome showed that this is not the litmus test for “he is better”. Mohammad just got here, so I’ll hold off on “the better player is not starting” for now. No evidence Salima is better than last year’s favourite new flavour McCrae. And who exactly or our current starters on the o-line is worse than Machino and should be replaced by him? Not even sure who you are referring to as “Des”. Bottom line, all this carping about “roster management” is kind of silly given how little it has impacted our actual success the last 3+ years. We didn’t lose last week because the number 40-45 spots on our active roster were worse than the guys at 46-58 on the practice roster, and we dressed the wrong guys and second and third back-up. We lost because our top 2 o-linemen could not handle the speedy BC outside pass rush and forced Zach to stay in the pocket, and got turnstiled much of the game. We lost because our best receiver had an off-game and may be playing hurt, which affected his breakaway speed and likely cost us a long bomb TD pass he could not catch up to. We lost because our game wrecker Willie J was not, that Bighill was not a difference maker at MLB, that Alexander was not breaking up passes and making BC receivers fear making the catch over the middle. That our front 7 got little pressure and our co-ordinator on D decided to play a soft zone coverage that got picked apart. That our offensive co-ordinator made no adjustments to handle the blitz like hitch screens, jet sweeps, or short passes, or even sticking with a running game that was working early. It was the starters, not the back-ups to the back-ups, who cost us the game. Now if you want to debate that the big name starters should go (starting with Jefferson, Bighill, Hardrick, and Bryant) then let’s debate that, but don’t tell me Machino is the next coming and is clearly getting screwed by not replacing them, and O’Shea is blind to not see it. Plus, if the talent is inadequate, is that not a GM and scouting fail as opposed to coach (I may be splitting hairs, but I’d call that a “personnel” issue, and not “roster management”, meaning who we bring in and keep as opposed to how we use those we have here, which was the original complaint - the argument seems to have shifted)? Where are our cuts excelling elsewhere in this league, outside of Liegghio (and I don’t hear many gripes that we opted for Castillo over him)? You know who else has a buttload of rings and wins? Mike O’Shea.

  21. at the pro level, if you cant play any form of press or man....how the heck are you a pro??...I think it more of scheme right now, and maybe with all the changes and some rookies, Hall is playing the "don't give up the big one" thing until we get things all settled...we have seemed to done this same thing...and we all had same discussions in early parts of previous seasons as well....so I think it's just that....or hope to hell it is, because if they feel we don't have the horses to play anything but...better get some new horses cause thats plain pathetic at this level

  27. we could use one of a number of guys in that role until Miller comes back...Burning a DI spot basically on jumbo packages on offence is a piss poor allocation of your assets Guathier or Briggs...2 experienced players in Canadian football guy...both bigger than Miller could have handled that role.....and yeah...Using an athletic giy like Eli and Dobson....who's job is to block, so are good at it would be just as good too. Having that extra DB...Say Mouhamed (who's also and experienced CFL guy) or get Cole back on the roster who next to Miller is prob one of our better ST guys would make way more sense

  28. I'd rather see Eli come in as a FB over Jackson. He is quite athletic at his size. Jackson just gets pushed aside when he's going to lead block on runs. I suppose Jackson is more useful on the special teams, but they have other nationals that can take his role as well.

  29. Go back and re-watch the games if you're not sure what Piggy accomplished, he made at least 2 throws that demonstrated great touch and one long pass that showed he had a very strong arm with good accuracy as well. Best yet, he wasn't just hucking the ball up for grabs or throwing it automatically to a spot like most rookie QB's, he found open receivers downfield and hit them in stride. As for his running ability it speaks for itself, the multiple tackles he broke while running the ball were on experienced football players, desperate to bring him down in their quest to land jobs.

  30. Wow...knowing those details now....if I were an L'ks fan. I'd be pissed. I thought they were locked in with him due to that contract, now that it's come forward that it isn't an issue...why is he still around? That's unbelievable.

  31. sadly if we worked our roster to its max...utilized the Nationalized Canadian and has someone else come in to block as the "fullback" that would totally make sense and give us our best roter...10 bucks tho says we don't....and don't for no real sound reason

  32. From Derek Taylor: Day 2 of Bombers practice. Greg McCrae in for Carlton Agudosi again. Once again no Adam Bighill. And Redha Kramdi continues at DIME. Hopefully Bighill just needs to rest up.
    2 points
  33. Yah, I don't think the Bombers actually cut MBT based on performance, it was more like releasing him to pursue another opportunity elsewhere.

  34. MOS said in his media availability something along the lines of Prukop accepting new role, making it his whole job, preparing for it, etc, etc. I wonder if the flip side of that comment is that Pigrome wasn't making the role his job in that same way.

  35. Thanks for following with answer for me...and yeah those are just some of the examples Guys like Bouno...Cal Murphy...Mathews..didn't think twice or bat an eye dumping even an established vet ..or a current starter for some new stud they discovered...or a player aging out..heck I even remember Cal cutting a guy one game at halftime for just not getting it and messing up repeatedly...and they have a buttload of wins and rings to show for it

  42. Jeffcoat I dont think was a serious injury, but more proceed with caution and not let it become a yr long issue...like he has had last few yrs with lingering issues having him in and out of lineup Him ...Lawson and Eli back full would be a big boost...especially if all are inserted into lineup....If Eli is ready I guess we may do the 7th O-lineman thing again with him as opposed to Szott ....and we know he would actually be used...so it makes sense as we basically have no other Canadian lingering on the PR worth putting in anyway Lawson immediately upgrades the National DT spot, as he is the best one on the roster and really is a force in the middle, and we all know what Jeffcoat brings when healthy...so some interior collapsing on the Oline will really free up our 3 ends I think tho with the DB's we gonna see a revolving and evolving group until we are able to figure out the pieces when all healthy...If I was a betting man come mid season we are gonna see if all are healthy a game day combo of Rose/Nichols/Mouhamed/BA as solid for sures and a battle between Lawrence, Parker, Holm and Houston for that other corner spot, and extra DB if we actually DI one...Swarmay will be developed as he has upside in my opinion. Do we flip a guy for a trade?.....possibly as when/if all are healthy...thats quite the log jam and just no room for them all....Have to factor in as well Ford possibly coming back sooner than later, as I doubt he sticks down there as there are tons of guys with his skill set...with American football experience who would take less time to develop and offer you more on the PR...So could see us effectively changing the ratio on defence and starting him on the corner....allowing us to go either 2 import DT's or start 8 canadians and allow us to swap out imports at that spot on the line freely.....and would be even better if Osh would stuff his Canadian pride away or whatever it is from preventing him from using one of many imports on defence as the Nationalized Canadian and really being able to load up some defensive sets

For the voters who loosely associate with a party, I think that they are less likely to follow party lines in a civic election because the affiliations to the party aren't as obvious (Chow's connection to Layton not withstanding).

We'll have two third line centres. So, I have to think they need to trade Scheif for a centre or just accept that we should be rebuilding. Either way, next year should be a gong show.

It's hard to sift through all the misinformation out there, especially on social media. I do, however, think it's fair to say the complexion of things in Russia has changed pretty significantly since Putin chose to invade Ukraine last February. How that plays out remains to be seen but I can't imagine it's going to end well for the current president or his beleaguered country.
