    Training Camp 2018

some thoughts... Firstly it appears a few guys have come to camp in better shape ..Harris looks leaner and faster..Poop as well looks more buff and a bit more lean...and still is so damn powerful. Faith too looks much better...Quicker and more agile...and in better game shape for CFL ball...he got knicked up in the one on ones but took turns in team session later so must be ok...3rd and 1.5...I dont see him as still a project...he has improved and is more expolive...i took time to study d-line a bit so more on that later... Receivers..not gonna focus on the projected starters too much...is what it is but Demski actually impressed me somewhat...he's better than what i recall and if injury free i see him doing good things this year in a Lapo offence White...cant see this guy not being on the gameday roster and taking significant first team reps...he is just plain good. He is what we use to call a QB enhancer as he can make any QB look good and has the ability to use his speed and fluidness and his uncanny ability to track a ball to make it look like the QB is always on the money..He is Dresslers replacement when that day comes...and if Dress gets hurt this year and misses significant games..he may have trouble getting his spot back...White is that good Coney and Dye as well impressed..shifty and fast and catch the ball in stride and hit upfield in 5th gear in an instant. Washington has the potential to be an Adarius 2.0 sans the drops...didnt wow in practice too much today, but if used how I think they plan to, may be one of the guys who when lights are on just produce. Lankford to me just looks too unatural as a receiver..too much of a body catcher and has limited route running skills..Seeing as Demski and White can do returns...don't see a need for him to e rostered as a DI and see him as a camp cut Canadian wise..Demski is solid and looks to be more north south this year and not the dance around side stepper he tended to be in Sask...if he keeps that up he will produce big...and avaoid injuries too...also him comin out of backfield with Harris on some sets is really going to cause trouble for defenses..speaking of Harris if they eventually do transition him to a slot role he will flourish...solid mitts on the guy Simonese u can see the rust flaking away..i noticed from combine..to mini..to main camp. He is deceptively fast and caught everything thrown at him..and seems to be very fast when ball is in his hands...he could cause some mismatches on the edge and today showed a nice ability to get separation from the db. Him and Drew I see taking equal reps in the offence until one or the other separates and shows they are more of a game breaker...then the split of reps will be more one sided..Peterson too impressed..fast..good hands...decent route runner...we are going to be ok with National receivers if u ask me..even with 2 rookies more or less in the lineup...should be noted Tyler Henry actually didnt look out of place but as did Pierre but they may be victims of numbers game..though [Pierre offers use on ST's Obviously Nichols is starter looked good...no suprise, Ross tho...impressed....throws a good ball...can move around and i dont think will get flustered...u can see he sees the field well and actually looks through his progressions and finds the right guy. I think if he has to come in to a game we are gonna be all right,,,and actually better off than if we had Durant here..and his broken down passing now...Strevler is behind Ross at moment but thats more from bein a raw rookie and learning as he goes...can tell though he is a Mike Reilly threat to gain gobs of yards on the ground if he had too... Dline guys on roster will be interesting to see who makes gameday. POOP looks to be primed for a big year..guys a beast...Jeffcoat has one end spoy I'm certain...Pretty sure Roh at the least is a DI..now it gets interesting...Nevis seemed to have more burst this year...but if Brandon Bryant shows well in pre-season..he (Nevis)may be in trouble and a TC casualty..Bryant is quick off the ball and has a lot of power to go with his quickness. Same with OPO...of nthe new comers Montgomery really stood out...had some clean wins in the one on ones and is so fast off the edge..and has great pursuit...lCasher as well...but of the 2...Montgomery is just better. Larry Webster is a bit more raw...but freakish athletic and can see him on PR as depth behind our 3 import starters...It wouldnt shock me if both OPO and Nevis get bumped off the roster...but gut says to start year only one will be cut..i hink it Nevis Faith i think looked a lot better...and a guy who didnt look out of place was Marouf..has some power and quickness and actually some pretty decent technique..he is way more athletic and versatile than Thomas and I can see why the team didnt ring him back...if Marouf is replacing Thomas on roster...we are better for it DB's are gonna be Randle..Loffler..for sure...Alexander looks good this spring...u can tell he understands the game much better and doesnt have to think now...just react..plus he has nice size...had a nice pick today too...Walker was steady and always involved...and looked more polished...and at only 22 this yr his upside is huge. a guy who stood out to me was Mohamad SEISAY...he got hurt mid practice and was missing for a while but i seen him at the end..not sure how bad, but he did some things that made me notice..as did Gaitor... I think a combo of Fenner..Leggett..Randle..Alexander..Gaitor..Loffler will be our game day guys in some capacity...and with addition of Bighill who is excellent in coverage too our defense is going to be pretty stingy. Linebacking is tough to gauge in camps like this

A couple of people have suggested this thread should be closed / die. There is absolutely zero reason to lock this thread. If you are done with the conversation, don't read it anymore. It is as simple as that. When the community is done discussing a topic it will shuffle down the list to die with all of the other threads that have run their course. Mods don't direct what topics are discussed. They enforce the rules of the board to try to keep the discussion civil. A thread is usually only locked when it has gone way off the rails or someone has resurrected a really old thread. I would never be part of a forum where the mods dictated when a topic can be discussed and not ... just because a few think it shouldn't be discussed anymore.

I expect Medlock, Roh, a DB (Fogg as he's also a returner), and an LB (Wild if he's not a SMS casualty). I don't see the big need for Flanders now that we have LaFrance as an in game Harris replacement. If we use a DI on offence, I hope it's one of the new receivers who can also return.

  5. These Vegas fans have no idea what other fanbases have gone through. The patience & heartbreak other fanbases have had to endure. They can't allow Seattle to be the same way when their expansion draft happens. I'm pissed the Jets lost but not because they lost the series... because they lost to Vegas. I can accept losing to any other team except the Knights. Give me a few days. I will accept it but I'll never like it.

I think Wild would be a very good option as a DI. Depth at two positions and a solid special teams player.

The only Imports on the offence are Nichols, Bryant, Hardrick, Dressler, Adams and Bowman. Which one is Flanders supposed to replace as a D.I.? Going with two Natl. receivers pretty much sealed Flanders fate imo, they're better off going with an extra Import receiver as the D.I. in preparation of taking over from Dressler or Bowman next year.

  8. Lol! Being neither. You don't need confirmation from me to know you just signed an excellent player. You will be amazed at how fast this guy is. When he's on your team you tend to notice him more. Lightning quick. Big hitter. Smart. And a quality community service guy.

  9. Mark, you are absolutely wrong on #4. Fleury stole the series he was that good. He was the difference maker.

Pretty much. I imagine going into camp itd look some thing like, medlock, wild, fogg, and flanders. Though we could use petermann as a returner, or one of the imp rooks instead of fogg. pressley could steal both the return man and back up imp rb job freeing up another DI spot. We could use our good young NI dbs as the rotational dime etc. We have a ton of flexibility with our DIs and a few rookies who may force their way onto the roster via DI. How much was wild making? thats my only concern with him. As a back up / rotational guy, leader and teams guy he is phenomenal.

  12. Eliminian missed 26 games during bighills time in bc. His role changed with systems, as in part mos refereed to today in the presser. He played at time essentially a second shallow saftey over the top of elimimian. He played mid wil was used in a jack roll for a stretch etc. Bighill easy has the speed and strength to excel in any deployment you can ask of him at wil or mac. Jsk we know as a rookie played well at wil. Im a fan of his, but it isnt nearly the first time weve seen a strong debut season at wil that tapers off drastically the next year. We dont really gain any thing if we force jsk to learn mlber adjust and try to continue improving as a second year guy. I think wild will DI and play teams with some package stuff. Though if he is cut in the name of salary cap savings I wont be surprised.

  13. 4 power plays today, didn't score on any of them, and we lost by one goal. In the playoffs you have to score on the power play or you lose. Getting through Nashville was a real drain. I wonder how that series would have gone if Vegas had to play Nashville and we had to play San Jose in round two.

  14. Agree to disagree here. Willy has experience... but all the chances he’s had with other teams since he was traded have only confirmed that he’s a shattered shell of the qb he used to be. IMHO, Bombers are better off having moved on.

  15. and this could hurt the franchise long-term. In three years when they are at the bottom of the league where they should be, is anyone going to show up?
    1 point
  16. Vegas is relying on a lot of guys having career years. It won't last. Yeah they have some depth, but without Fleury playing well and guys massively over performing because of the underdog factor I don't see them having staying power as a top team.

  17. If you had told me before the season that the Jets would make it to the WCF, I would have been happy. I think what is really bugging me is that we lost to Vegas (a freaking expansion team). We've waited patiently as we drafted and developed and you get a first year club in the Finals. Plus add in the heartbreak we've experienced as fans (80s Oilers, losing the team, some bad hockey teams) and its just frustrating.

Okpalaugo had 1 good game last year, other than that he was mostly invisible. Take away his big game and he had 3 sacks. Thats Greg Peach level. I think Roh is a lock for that spot and Okpalaugo gets released. He's just making too much for his production.

  19. At about 7 minutes into the first period I said "wow, these guys look like they are in double OT right now." They were just exhausted. I don't think there is anyone to blame... nobody on this team, and especially not the guys 25 and under, have played this much hockey before in their careers. It was a great run.

    Training Camp 2018

No ones denying Flanders is better than LaFrance. The challenge is how to get him in the gameday roster. As Tburg said ... we don't brought in Roh to just be on the 46/PR. From yesterday's account he's starting on #1 D yesterday. At the very least, he will be a DI. unless of course we release Okpalaugo and his big $$$. Great emphasis was given to the secondary this off-season. And none of our Nat DB is capable of starting so a huge drop off if we sub a Nat in case of injury. Expect a DI DB (Fogg, Walker, Alexander) Expect a DI Linebacker also (Wild, Wilson or Gause) i think that's the norm with O'shea linebackers corps. \ And of course, Medlock.

  24. I have a question: the icing call where the player who actually iced the puck was on the bench. Vegas pretended not to know even after the call was made - could this not be a delay of game penalty?
    1 point
  25. The refs in this series made it about them, breaking the momentum of the game by calling inconsistent calls or non calls on both teams. Threw the players off in how they could play and how the coaches could roll their lines. Imo this hurt the Jets more than the Knights because our whole game is flow, neutral ice attack, physical play. Running four lines became impossible. Add in to this losing recipe sans first game we were losing most of the battles down low and Fleury's old school athletic type goaltending. Top 4 baby, next year Top 1. ps sign Paul Stastny to a two year contract, promise him a Cup next year.

When Flanders was out, Harris was taking far more punishment and he was less effective. IMO Lefrance should be there for depth when they have to juggle the ratio.

  28. Vegas just outworked the Jets. Also 5 goals in the last 4 games isnt good enough.

  29. Jake Thomas was never signed was he? I wouldn’t mind seeing him come back as a depth player.

  30. I think aside from Medlock, one on a LB/DB, one on a DL and one on Flanders or a different back/receiver. Some will depend on return game.

  31. Jets scored 9 goals in 5 games. 5 in the last 4. You cant win if you dont score. I call BS on Fleury not stealing games... He stole game 2 and game 4. Jets dominated and had several chances but Fleury... He WAS the difference. 9 goals in 5 games. Yeah the goalie was a difference... A huge one too. Jets were gassed tho i think plus i do agree with the Vegas clutching and grabbing and getting away with it comment. Roslo got pulled down in the 3rd on a scoring chance.. No call, Ehlers gets hooked, no call. They call Kulikov for a "elbow" that Vegas gets away with constantly. This isnt new tho, Vegas has gotten away with it all season. Its part of the 500 million fee. Ya 4 2 and the Jets PP did nothing but.. Maybe if the refs called all the penalties they should have on Vegas... They do score. 1 goal game and you put the whistle away pretty much in the 3rd?

  33. I get 5th graders spouting this stuff because they hear it from their dad at home. 1. The non - call when Sheifele's nose was bloodied up was definitely a blatant missed call. But the same can be said for the non-call on the Buff trip today 2. The Knights had 4 or 5 players back defensively on a consistent basis, the Jets usually had 3 or 4. 3. The Jets are a passing team that played dump and chase too much. On a power play or with an empty net, a team of the Jets' calibre should be moving the puck in with crisp passes. 4. Fleurry didn't make the difference all by himself, nor did he steal any games, but he was superb

  36. yeah actually that's pretty funny. This is also a year where I won't really be watching or caring about the draft given we burned our first rounder, not that it was going to be high pick anyway. Oh well. Time to turn that switch in the old brain to "football" from "hockey", and hopefully won't be turning it back until the day after the Grey Cup. The Crown Royal consumption will continue at about the same level though...

The wider CFL field means rookie INT QBs need to adjust their pass lanes. That means un-learning some habits. That can take a bit of time and Ross's experience from last year gives him the edge there. And then you've got receivers sometimes running wobbly routes. I noticed Streveler tossed a floater or two to the wide side of the field - those would have been picks if it wasn't the first day of camp. All 3 backup QBs have good arm strength though, Streveler was running the reps quickly and he was able to run a couple of plays that look like they could be deeper than just your vanilla Day 1 stuff from the playbook.

  39. Eventually the Riders have to draft a CFL player. Drafting guys headed to the NFL and OL with a neurological disorder that made them lose 100 lbs results in hoping Eddie Steele can play another year and signing Jordan Reaves.

Harris I can see being a slot receiver into his mid 30's once rb becomes too much to expect from him If a slob like Lewis can do it looking like he did for last 3 years.. Harris can...as Lewis was never ever in the shape and condition Harris is..plus his first 2-3 yes in league Harris had low miles as a feature back

  42. I got there today around 9:45 and stayed till the end. Our "starting" five receivers are fun to watch: Adams, Bowman, Dressler, Demski and Wolitarsky. That is a really solid group and Wolitarsky again looked good today. Surprise receiving star was Daniel Petermann. His speed was evident early on. He made four really nice catches, the last being in the scrimmage where he jumped up in the middle of the field to nab a high crossing throw. Of the new QBs, Ross was a real pleasant surprise. Streveler looks the part and I was expecting him to really shine but it was Ross who stood out more. Way more arm strength than I anticipated. Had some nice deep completions in the drills.

when i read the tweet that we signed Bighill I was on the crapper at work and let out a loud "Holy S***!!" ... had someone come knock on the door and tell me to keep up the good work lol. gotta say Walters has done well last few years with some FA's but THIS is the type of signing I've been waiting for, seemingly for decades with various regimes. A highly prized talent from another team coming back to the league and joining the Bombers, not the typical return to their former teams where no doubt a huge level of loyalty may remain (seems to happen a lot with Edmonton and Calgary). I'm not sure if there has been any interviews yet but I'd love to hear the breakdown of how this transpired. Did Walters make him an offer he couldn't refuse or did Hervey deem his current LBs more than adequate enough to not even compete for his services.

  47. Yea sour grapes teams that have waited and drafted with sad sack teams ....and a expansion team makes it in one year what other teams ( if they are lucky get in maybe 10 to 20? ) yea . Try looking at the facts before you make an idiotic statement. If Vegas wins the cup this league is like WWE a joke.
