  1. So I've been thinking on it. I think I have trauma from the Larry Arugala situation, and tossing potentially great CFL-via-CIS kickers to the trash heap too soon. At the end of the day, if you're able to just go buy a veteran PK whenever you need one, then may be no need to stress about developing one that you carry for a whole career like Bob Cameron or Westwood or Kennerd or whoever. It may also be a valid point that Legs could just be a punter like Maver and carve out a good career that way. All in all, trust The Trinity.

  2. I could see Leggs being the punter and Sergio handling the kicking duties. Their salaries would prolly add up to what Medlock was making.

  3. In the CFL 2 yards in should be a gimme. You can load up the box or you run you're entire offense with a 20 yard endzone to work with. If you have 3-4 half decent RPO plays with a QB who can boot for 2 yards you're looking at a huge defensive play needed to stop it. Say you score 3 TD's in a game and you convert 2 2PAT's...you've got 22 points. If you make all single PATs, you've got 21. Most kickers since they moved the PATs back are between 80-85% so going 2/3 on 2PAT's is more points in many games and for sure over a whole season. Especially if it's windy or otherwise tough conditions I'd be going for 2 every time. I don't really see the odds and variables involved (snap, hold, kick) of making the 1 pointer as any easier than getting to the goal-line from the 2.

  4. Something DT posted about Sergio: his average FG attempt was like 5-6 yards longer than anyone else's. I know it seemed like he wasn't as good for the Elks, but they literally trotted him out there for every long shot.

  7. DB doesn’t worry me at all - I am wondering if we get a bit younger there this year though.

  8. Why are there so many short term memory problems around the kicking position lol. Walters has said all off season they'd be bringing in lots of competition for that spot.

Why is it that raising social programs (ie. helping people get out of poverty and into the work force) is seen as stifling economic growth? I haven't done the math, but in my eyes, more people working means a larger tax base along with more money in circulation (and not just restricted to a bunch of people who are hoarding their wealth), which by definition is economic growth... or am I missing something?

  12. I believe it was the Stumpeders a couple of years back went for a lot of 2 point converts. If you have the offence to execute, why not?

  13. I like the combo of Sergio and Leggs.....The kid still has learning years and Castillo definitely affords him that....It was a successful team in 21' ....should be again.....Another solid Leg-up for the Bombers in 23'.....(pardon the pun)

  14. Rose is the least of my concerns this year...he will bounce back. I think the secondary will be one of our solid spots....top 2 in the league....I like the bodies we brought back and a couple of the new guys we recruited are intriguing. Really looking forward to the rotational guys we brought in for the edge...TC gonna have some legit battles this year

  15. To me, it would not be a great surprise if Castillo and Liegghio were both on the roster at the end of training camp. Kickers do not get hurt often, but they do get hurt, so if one of these two goes down, we have an instant backup.

  16. Kyle Walters is so wonderfully good at his job. I still can’t get over how GOOD they are. I lived and breathed Bombers during those awful seasons. 1997. 1998. 2005. 2009. ‘12 and so forth. The organization as a whole is just so…great.
    5 points
  17. Honestly if it were 2013 you might have a point with this. But they are playing to win NOW. Liegghio is far more valuable being a great punter than being a mediocre kicker and a good punter. Think Rob Maver. He was picked in the first round to do all 3 jobs, pretty quickly realized he wasn't a great kicker. The other part is that Liegghio is good as gone to the GTA after this season.

  18. Love having Sergio back! Like with any other player the vibe of the organization and the quality of a roster can elevate or drag down a kicker. If Sergio is the pk on coming out of training camp, imho he’ll be confident and way more settled than anytime last year with the Elks.

  20. Osh NEVER goes for 2 points even when it makes sense. Drives me nuts. Its the one thing i hate about him lol. Its almost as if he once fell in love with a 2 point conversion and it cheated on him and broke his heart.

  21. I like Kyle's apology for 22. Got back Lawler, got back Castillio. Now just needs Harris for 3 in 5 years

  22. His punting is pretty poor. Im sure the plan is to have Castillo do the place kicking and Leigghio the punting.
    4 points
  23. Yeah he's been mediocre since he came back from the NFL, but the guy was THE BEST DB in the league before he left. He's still young so i expect him to get back to his allstar form. Or hope so atleast.
    4 points
  24. Walters must be taking a Chevy'esk sabbatical at the cabin or something. I only count 21 DB's coming to camp, a far cry from the 32414 that came last year.....

  29. I'd like to see us go for 2 points once per game...cause why not...it allows the 2 point team reps under fire, and is good reps for in the season when you may really need it...I would bet we probably are the team in the CFL with the fewest 2 point attempts over past 5 years...and its not even close

So I added a new place to my "I will return" list. There's a place called White Picket Fence on Henderson Highway near the Santa Lucia, they have stuff that I have never seen at Tee-Yah's (and their biggest advantage it that they sell ice cream) but you will not believe what I saw there, they have condiments (alot of different hot sauces), some from Taco Bell some are for Tostitos, I'm actually munching on Skittles Chewies (no shell) right now

  32. Like the Castillo signing....dont like we lose a DI spot now that would be key elsewhere, that being said I want him to do all 3 jobs then and at least we can have another Canadian foot soldier rostered

  33. Worked for the playoffs in 2021. Leggz is still on his rookie deal, and Castillo already had a bonus paid by Edm so shouldn't be an issue to fit both under the cap. Good chance both guys will excel in separate roles. Leggz is the better punter. Castillo the better kicker.

  34. I don't wanna say it, cause I don't like being That Guy, but I'm wondering if Rose isn't a guy that's a bit of a "surprise" cut this year, getting beat out by someone younger.... I know he played hurt last year but watching a lot of highlight packs lately and jeeze he got picked on a lot last year.

  37. Now, with Castillo here I can relax a bit. When Lieghhio kicks, I don't have to cross my fingers, close my eyes & say out loud anymore, "C'mon! C'mon!" And when he'd miss a convert or easy FG, I'd be yelling, "#@%^&*!!! I knew it! I knew it!!" My stress level should be a lot less much like when Jason Medlock was our kicker. He just had this aura of confidence around him that his teammates & fans could sense. With Lieghhio, he always seemed to be in panic mode half the time.

  38. I wouldn't even place a bet on who called who first. They probably got each other's voice mails as they dialed numbers simultaneously. I had just sent my buddies a message pointing out his release when I saw the "SIGNED" image. Whole thing was wrapped up in 20 minutes.

  39. And yet he still hit 26 of 29 last year. This really should settle the nerves of many fans, proof that this team isn't complacent and will always make changes to make them better. Also a bit of a sign for the rest of the league, be a quality organization and players want to play for you. I very much expect Walter's got a call from his agent "So, Sergio just got cut by the Elks, he will sign with you today for $X and not talk to anyone else if that works for you." Edit: UGH!! I need more coffee before posting in the morning. I heard @DTonOB quote that 26 for 29 number and didn't realize it was PAT's not FG's. Field Goal percentage was still roughly 85% which I will take any time.

  43. I would think they would cut some of the American kickers they signed. Especially the punter. I just don't see them carrying two Americans on the roster to handle kicking duties. The way I view it Castillo is the place kicker and there's a battle between Leggs and the globals for the punting job. Leggs would be hard to beat out because he provides placekicking depth as well. But perhaps with the unexpected money being spent on Castillo they would look at an Global punter as a cost cutting measure because you don't have to pay globals the league minimum if my memory serves me correct.

  46. Collaros tossing to the end zone is waaay better than any kicker. run up the score like a ****** juco team. he was clutch in the play offs for sure. Shakey in the end of the season. I love his personality. He’s the kind of crazy you want your kicker to be. His stories about being with the jets are great too.

  48. Damn that sucks. Both those kids looked real good in limited play last year. Really wanted to see both develop. with the weather hitting plus 20 this week as long as it stays warm ish the beaches should be good by then. Love both those spots. off season rules still in effect imo. As long as we keep the rookie camp, tc and regular season threads clean. We are super close to that point which is fantastic.
