  2. MY Mother & father grew up on their farms in Manitoba. Neither of them were excited about gardening but man, could they ever grow things in our very large backyard in the 50's & 60's. There was dill, green onions, tomatoes, carrots, beets, radishes, lettuce, cabbage, corn & potatoes. We had flowers around the house & in a flower bed out front. My Dad planted three crabapple trees in the yard & they gave us fruit for years. Either crabapple pie, jam or wine for my parents or guests (but not me). I loved to eat those crabapples right off the branch. I'd usually stuff my pockets if I was leaving the house. Great memories. then they got into their mid 50's & they decided to stop & my father sodded the back yard.

  3. Totally agree with you Pete... I limit my visits and comments on this site as there are a few in here who wish to control the board with their views, roll their eyes at others and feel their feedback only matters. What collection of individuals.

  4. Well then that won't happen. Danielle Smith only spends money on things like that to buy votes, like in calgary. Edmonton didn't vote for her so they get cut off.

Unfortunately, I missed that part of the game, as, that day, a group of my friends and I enjoyed a large scale experience with electric Kool-Aid (punchbowl version). We lasted with the game until the half, but became far more interested in the wonderful world of Disney on another channel.

That's just silly. Of course it's context. A 3 win team was part of the context of that season. You're also providing context - can we just dismiss it?

  12. We have a big community garden. I spend a good chunk of my summer helping out there, especially when picking starts. Potatoes are my domain. It's good physical work, but some days, I'm not so sure about the soul part. 😁

  14. I actually think more "community owned" teams would be beneficial for the CFL. Private ownership has its own issues, as we have seen terrible owners and also complete lack of good candidates in some cases.

  15. Ok, I’ll show myself out for that title. Game time: 7:00 pm, TSN3 The story: The up-and-down Jets try to climb back atop the Central standings against the muscular waterfowl of Disneyland as they were known in a past iteration. Scheifele possibly back after his turn upchucking the flu bug as it washes over the whole team, but Vilardi on the shelf for a while now with a bum spleen. Brossy gets the start apparently. Anyone who has better luck than I trying to post the projected starting line-up, please do so. A win tonight and a 3 way tie for Central #1 spot, with the Jets holding the tie-breaker.

Honestly that runs all the way up to the early 2ks. Some of the most baffling calls ever back then. I remember a rtp call for ac in a late season must win type game in 99/2000. Montreal got like 6 cracks at it from the one yard line and got shut down each time. They got an off side call which might’ve been a bit soft but probably fine. But the rtp was egregious. The fans threw stuff on the Field for like 10 minutes and eventually we got a crowd penalty. Mtl scored and won, but I always remember that as a culture defining moment. Ritchies team expected to win and fought like one was against them. It was the light at the end of the dark ages. And as much as it was hating to lose, it was hating to get jobbed. The stuff defences got away with on milt up till 2001 ish was insane too. A lot of guys got mugged back then, but WRs on bad teams got it like linemen in the 50s. the blown onside punt call with time running out in dunigans year with Calgary as a hc. All the insane cheap shots on khari by ed Philion. and I saw soo many guys take runs at blinks ankles especially when he had that turf toe injury. reffing is bad now. But it used to be a serious problem. The deal with the nfl for the option year etc that started the joint ref stuff helped a lot.

Saw the news and was trading messages with them last night...... just ruined my week. Winnipeg doesn't have THAT MANY breweries that you should be seeing a "bubble burst" right now... this is really sad. It was absolutely THE place to be before a Bombers game. Onkel's on the patio at SA on a warm Manitoba summer afternoon pre-Bombers game? Just nothing finer... there are some on here who have made outrageous claims about SA and their production methods (and quality of output) but I've never had a beer there that I didn't enjoy. Paul's sometimes "crusty" exterior was a big part of the charm of the vibe as well... support your locals folks.... you don't know what you've got until it's gone.

Beer has been brutally taxed leading to a dramatic loss of market share over the past 15 years. Craft beers were subjected to this as well and it is very difficult for small breweries to be affordable. I wish Stone Angel the best and will miss it. I had really hoped the neighborhood brewpub would have caught on. Sadly. post covid the hospitality industry is just hurting badly. I hear ya. Some great establishments have bit the dust post covid and it's especially sad to see one of our microbrewery pub houses go because they were a great little concept that just couldn't fly. A few years ago, before Barley Brothers came into being, I just about partnered up with the FB group on building one and then our research led us to this inevitable conclusion. Margins were just too small. FB group pivoted and went with the Barley Bros concept and I stepped aside, I just felt it too was risky.

  33. Agreed. Also the top players by position and dark horses / sleepers post. I think it’d be fun to have a bunch of media types do their own mock draft. Say barker picks for Toronto, farhan for bc etc. wouldnt be much out side of entertainment but I think it would be fun for 3ish rounds.

it's definitely not cheap, but generally really enjoyable with the right group of people. I don't enjoy golf with randos. It's best when it's a scramble-type event. My goal in life is to be able to Fish in the early AM, golf during the day when it's too hot for the fish and the bite dies, then fish again in the evening. One day....

  35. There is talk about building a new 30,000 seat stadium for both the Elks & Edmonton's Canadian Soccer League team. It would require government money to get it done. I just shake my head thinking they'd actually tear CWS down. Couldn't they renovate it? Reduce capacity to it's original 40,000? Fix the concourses, washrooms & concessions areas to bring it up to modern standards? Add more private suites. I'm not a civil engineer so I don't know if that is possible. However, it's almost 50 years old. So, maybe it is time to get rid of it. The demolition cost would be a pretty hefty bill all on its own. I think it tells you about the tale of 2 cities if Edmonton built a new stadium for the Elks while in Calgary, the Stampeders are still stuck in that shithole of a facility called McMahon Stadium because the politicians down here just don't give a **** about the CFL.

I was looking at scores from that season and some interesting facts come out for me: - Edmonton lost only one game all season - guess who beat them? Yup, Dieter and Crew, 38 - 28 - I remembered why I grew up thinking "Barnagel" was so good, because Sask came into our barn that year and beat us, one of only two teams to do so at home that year (not counting that uber-crappy Western Semi-Final game). I remember being very mad after that Sask game. - We beat Montreal 58-2 that year. HA HAA HAAA HAAA I think that game destroyed Vince Ferragamo.

I play Ultimate and coach my daughter's softball team as my main hobbies. I enjoy golfing in the summer and skiing in the winter, but don't get out to do either nearly as much as I would like. I used to curl a lot, but stopped when my daughter was born... I really want to get back into it, but don't know anyone who curls and is looking for an additional player. I'm also a gamer, mostly PC but some Console as well. I'm a aspiring maker/tinkerer. I love woodworking projects and want to get into 3D printing and CNC but I just don't have the space for it yet, but hopefully soon.

  40. Who would even get the money when a non profit is sold privately? The article talks about how the club is in rough times financially, some due to the pandemic, some due to the record. Club success is cyclical and that should not be reason to sell the club. The other they give is they need a new stadium. If we've learned anything over the last 20 years, private owners aren't typically willing to put down a lot of their own capital to build stadiums / arenas. Like it or not, this inevitably comes from the tax payer. So why sell the club to a private owner to reap that potential benefit? Don't like this one bit.

  42. The L's went LB with the 2nd overall pick last year (Michael Brodrique) and he played all 18 games for them last year. If they feel he's ready to step up this year, they may not need Dublanko. It's also Chris Jones so logic doesn't always apply and it's anybody's guess what he'll do.
