    Covid-19

Here’s the progression of the test positivity rate and the trends in the last week: Mon. - 89 cases/1603 tests=5.55%, 3 deaths, 104 hospital, 27 ICU Tue. - 83/1410=5.89%, 0 deaths, 99 hospital, 24 ICU Wed. - 126/1833=6.87%, 3 deaths, 105 hospital, 22 ICU Thu. - 110/2183=5.04%, 2 deaths, 109 hospital, 20 ICU Fri. - 110/2232=4.93%, 1 death, 115 hospital, 23 ICU Sat. - 82/1529=5.36%, 4 deaths, 101 hospital, 23 ICU Sun. - 80/1434=5.58%, 4 deaths, 105 hospital, 21 ICU Today - 53/1373=3.86%, 4 deaths, 105 hospital, 15 ICU And active cases got cut in half over yesterday, so clearly some data backlog clearing. So we ARE seeing a drop in new cases that is not just because of fewer tests, even though tasting was lower (probably due to the cold as you say). Besides, if people won’t go out and test because of the cold, then they are at least socially distancing by staying at home as well, so that will keep infection rates down.

  5. Tampa wins this game no matter what but the officiating was absolutely horrid. Gotta feel bad for Mahomes...guy scrambles 65 yards then horizontally launches himself to throw a 60 yard pass only to have his receivers (not once, not twice but 3 times) have a perfect ball go through their hands and hit them in the facemask. Catch those and the game is completely different.

Really interesting stuff.... Whitehead, based on his social media, would really like to come back, but I'm sure wants to maximize his value. Miles and Rush are two guys I thought would be slam dunks to return....guess not. Exume might want to be closer to home and Peterman just wants a place to start. Fair enough.

  9. Crazy stat from that football show on 1290: Mahones had 497 scramble yards behind the line of scrimmage, trying to buy time - Brady had 13. I didn’t even watch the game, but that’s difference right there - as usual. Trenches dominated by the Bucs.

The fall of Jason Kenney By Bruce Livesey | Opinion, Politics | February 8th 2021 Jason Kenney was pissed. On Jan. 20, the Alberta premier walked into a press conference at the legislature in Edmonton, making a beeline to a podium that bore a sign reading “Standing up for Alberta.” Wearing a dusky navy blue suit and matching tie, Kenney was responding to breaking news that U.S. President Joe Biden had just canceled the Keystone XL pipeline, which was to carry oil from Alberta to Nebraska. “This is a gut punch for the Canadian and Alberta economies,” said Kenney. “Sadly, it’s an insult directed at the United States’ most important ally and trading partner.” The premier said up to 2,000 unionized workers had just lost their jobs and if the Biden administration was unwilling to discuss the matter, “it’s clear the government of Canada must impose trade and economic sanctions” against the U.S. For Kenney, news of the cancellation was one of a series of body blows his United Conservative Party (UCP) government has suffered over the past year and could not have come at a worse time. Already swimming in debt, the province had invested $1.5 billion in Keystone. More importantly, Kenney has gambled most of his political capital on rescuing Alberta’s ailing economy by resuscitating the oil and gas sector. Now that strategy lies in tatters. As one former UCP staffer told me: “Reality is catching up with the province. It sounded good, in theory, but now we're getting our results.” (much, much, more...) https://www.nationalobserver.com/2021/02/08/opinion/fall-of-jason-kenney

Third, the demographic profile of the suspected Capitol rioters is different from that of past right-wing extremists. The average age of the arrestees we studied is 40. Two-thirds are 35 or older, and 40 percent are business owners or hold white-collar jobs. Unlike the stereotypical extremist, many of the alleged participants in the Capitol riot have a lot to lose. They work as CEOs, shop owners, doctors, lawyers, IT specialists, and accountants. Strikingly, court documents indicate that only 9 percent are unemployed. Of the earlier far-right-extremist suspects we studied, 61 percent were under 35, 25 percent were unemployed, and almost none worked in white-collar occupations. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/02/the-capitol-rioters-arent-like-other-extremists/617895/

  16. Scientists develop transparent wood that is stronger and lighter than glass Bob McDonald · CBC Radio · Posted: Feb 05, 2021 3:22 PM ET Researchers at the University of Maryland have turned ordinary sheets of wood into transparent material that is nearly as clear as glass, but stronger and with better insulating properties. It could become an energy efficient building material in the future. Wood is made of two basic ingredients: cellulose, which are tiny fibres, and lignin, which bonds those fibres together to give it strength. Tear a paper towel in half and look closely along the edge. You will see the little cellulose fibres sticking up. Lignin is a glue-like material that bonds the fibres together, a little like the plastic resin in fibreglass or carbon fibre. The lignin also contains molecules called chromophores, which give the wood its brown colour and prevent light from passing through. Early attempts to make transparent wood involved removing the lignin, but this involved hazardous chemicals, high temperatures and a lot of time, making the product expensive and somewhat brittle. The new technique is so cheap and easy it could literally be done in a backyard. https://www.cbc.ca/radio/quirks/scientists-develop-transparent-wood-that-is-stronger-and-lighter-than-glass-1.5902739?fbclid=IwAR3SQUyUZE_t55aE8_4rd6vIK9wHl26WHwRCRFQBsDju9qhVDcVhmN5CrVg

  17. Alt-Right mouth piece by proxy then? And no one is callng you out for being an Alt-Right mouth piece because you criticize Trudeau, it's because of your lengthy history of sharing those view points by the articles you post and viewpoints you highlight and those that you refuse to acknowledge. And the feigned ignorance of "oh ho ho, you people are intolerant little snowflakes in capable of over coming your confirmation bias, your cognitive dissonance, and your sexual identity politics and blahblablahbobloblawslawblog..." is pretty rich and disingenuous - it's simply more of "man, I am tired of your constant inelegant trolling- gtfo here." 22. TBH, 2 qbs isnt enough. The minimum should be 3. I dont really wanna see darvin adams or other position players at QB. And with only 2 on active roster its only a matter of time. Or his agent using dunk to try to push up his value around the league.

  24. One OL goes down for the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game & suddenly three have to change positions & a shitty backup has to start on the KC line. The NFL has bigger rosters & expanded practice squads & they didn't have a guy ready to step in & play? That cost them the Super Bowl as the Bucs ate that KC line alive. Mahomes was running for his life on every pass play. the NFL monopolizes players & when just one is needed they can't deliver.

  27. It's sad that Andy Reid's time he spent away from his family as an NFL HC caused such strife in his home. Dad being away so much coaching football & missing special occasions, family birthdays, Christmas or even his 2 sons high school games came at such a cost. They look around & see other Dads in the stands but theirs isn't as he's too busy with his team's players & it's tough. I can relate as my father was a small business owner & an alcoholic. He was also was never around & would be gone for days at a time & my Mother & I would not know where he was or if he was even alive. Was he lying dead somewhere?? It wasn't uncommon for him to go missing from Thursday at noon to when he came home for lunch to Saturday night or Sunday morning. When he was around then my parents argued about the times he wasn't. I had a hard time trusting others because I could never trust that my father would keep his word he'd be home that night or that we'd be going on that fishing trip the next Saturday when I was a kid. You get ****** up when you can't trust your father as a 10 year old. Or seeing your Mother crying because she thinks her husband is dead or we have no money for food because Dad is drinking it all away & he's the only bread winner in the family. It affects you the rest of your life. So, I have sympathy for Britt Reid but he is an adult now & hurt 2 innocent little kids. He should go to jail.

We all know how Senator impeachment trial will go, the evidence is damming, yet more Republican Senators will set precedence and will vote to acquit and will have their names forever associated with the worst POTUS in the history of the United States who lied about the results tried to change the election by trying to strong arm officials and when that didn't work lathered his crazed rubes to storm the Capitol looking for blood. After this vote Democrats should first get rid of the filibuster and then ram thru their agenda and pretend like the Republicans don't exist make them irrelevant.

Could be O'Day driving up the price but I doubt it...that D front 7 in Riderville is a complete tire fire right now. If they don't do something big in FA the Riders will finish last in the West. I'm calling it now..... Calgary and Saskatchewan are not having a great offseason thus far. Both teams need to pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat in FA, scouting, and the draft.

  32. I'd think that Hamilton will be favorites this year. Their QB situation is the best in the league by far. We weren't a dominant team in '19. We had a great playoff season to win us the cup. Much like the way Calgary beat us all those years ago when they came from 3rd in the West.

The Edmonton Football Team says it has a shortlist of seven candidates for its new name. Elk, Evergreens, Evergolds, Eclipse, Elkhounds, Eagles and Elements are listed as possibilities on an online survey released Monday. The CFL team dropped the name Eskimos last year. It followed a similar decision by the NFL’s Washington team as pressure mounts on teams to eliminate racist or stereotypical names. https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/edmonton-football-team-asks-fans-to-vote-on-7-possible-names-1.5299846 I've got one more: The Edmonton Excrement

Yeah, thats gonna be an awful line...they had to bring back St John..who wasn't good enough to stick on that crap line before, or anywhere else for that matter, and Dan Clarke..sure he got picked as an all-star...head scratcher there, but he is not a top tier center. And yup...waiting for plays to develop and rely of the floaters Fajardo lays up up there, thats gonna be a recipe for disaster, and then watching his head implode on the sidelines, and alienate half his offence it will be quite the **** show for sure...can't wait

  47. A few xmas's ago my brother got my girls a Harris and Nichols jersey. I Instagramed a pic of the girls wearing the jerseys and tagged both players. Nichols shared the pic on his feed and thanked my girls and wished them a merry xmas. Class act, I have nothing but love for Matty Ice.
    1 point
  48. One good thing about the Nichols move to Ottawa for me: we were not supposed to play the Argos at home this year due to the imbalanced schedule. At least now when the RedBlacks show up Oct. 2 the club can give Nichols a proper video tribute (which he deserves) and the fans can applaud him (which he even more so deserves) for all he did to bring the Bombers back from the dead into the playoffs and ultimately into a Grey Cup champion in his time here, not to mention all his community work and charitable donations.

  49. All three were pending FA. CGY gets picks in return for 3 players they weren't going to retain anyhow. TOR gets exclusive negotiation rights with these 3 players for a whopping 18 hours. CGY turns nothing into something while TOR has no guarantee these guys won't test FA...
