  4. No, if he went to XFL he wouldn't be available for a CFL HCing gig until the 2022 season because it's a spring league. Further to that, it's not about the money with Lapo...he and his family genuinely love Winnipeg. I know that your BC sensibilities struggle with that, but it's a straight up fact.

  7. "Canada is, on average, experiencing warming at twice the rate of the rest of the world, with Northern Canada heating up at almost three times the global average, according to a new government report. The study — Canada's Changing Climate Report (CCCR) — was commissioned by Environment and Climate Change Canada. It says that since 1948, Canada's annual average temperature over land has warmed 1.7 C, with higher rates seen in the North, the Prairies and northern British Columbia." https://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/canada-warming-at-twice-the-global-rate-leaked-report-finds-1.5079765

not when you're operating by the Karl Rove playbook. McCain, shot down, wounded, POW, is scum cause he criticized the caudillo. The Caudillo, five time draft dodger, deserves a full military parade in his honour. These people are blind. Even my idiot bro in law has figured out Trump is scum. Zontar should go back to the Ticats forum.

  15. It was how he went about like he was better than everyone else in the league and he proved that by first demanding a $400K paycheck to come into the CFL. And then the manner in how he left leaving his team in a bit of shock. Right or wrong, MTL paid up for him and he just **** on them. And then to tell some AAF guys that the CFL was a terrible game and he couldn't succeed in the game because it's not really football. I don't have that interview but that is what one of the AAF TV announcers described in the game that Memphis played against the Iron. It's his smug attitude toward the CFL that makes me happy to see him fail.

  17. Hi everyone. I'm new to MBB, and appreciate the opportunity to make a small pitch. I am an author and CFL fan/historian in the Toronto area, currently working on my second book about the Argonauts. The first (Bouncing Back: From National Joke to Grey Cup Champs) was published in 2013 and told the story of the 1983 Argos, who ended a 31-year Grey Cup drought that year, just two years after the worst season in franchise history. The book I'm working on now is about the 1991 Argos, who were owned by John Candy, Wayne Gretzky and Bruce McNall, signed Rocket Ismail to the largest contract in football (not just CFL, but football, period) history, and won the coldest Grey Cup ever played -- in Winnipeg, of course. I've interviewed dozens of players, coaches, execs and others associated with the team and the league of that era, and I'm planning a research/vacation trip to Winnipeg in July (to coincide with the Argos' game there -- my first chance to experience IGF!) for interviews with individuals who were involved with the 1991 Grey Cup festival and game. I'm looking for connections to anyone who might have good stories and experiences from Winnipeg's first time playing host to the big game. I'm especially interested in interviewing individuals who had encounters with John Candy that week, but at this point I'll consider any interesting connection that might factor into the story. I'd also love to find anyone who has any connection to the two frozen beer cans that were tossed at the Rocket as he crossed the goal-line with the kickoff return TD that essentially clinched Toronto's win. I realize it was 28 years ago, and at this point anyone of a certain age could claim to be (or know) the throwers. I'm certainly not counting on being able to positively identify those responsible, and I definitely don't want anyone "brought to justice." But everyone old enough to have seen the game remembers the first beer can almost hitting Ismail before its frozen foam exploded on the turf -- the second can, fired from a different part of the stands a second or two later, has been largely forgotten -- and yet nothing (as far as I know) has ever been reported about who did it, why, etc. A search for the thrower is potentially a fun little angle to pursue along with the much bigger picture of the Argos (and the league) in 1991. Anyway, all of that is to say, if you have a personal connection to the 1991 Grey Cup game that you think would be worth me hearing about as part of my research, and/or you know anyone who has such a connection, I'd love to hear from you. You can DM me but a better route would be to email me: paulwoods13@gmail.com. Thanks!

  19. I tune out 17to85 as well when he LaPo bashing gets redundant. I can accept the criticism of Wheeler and Scheifele, and I too have in the past suggested a shuffling of the lines which includes separating them. The difference is I have not said the same thing repeatedly in every game post on multiple occasions. The point has been made, and clearly Maurice is not going to change things. People are entitled to their opinions, and are entitled to repeat them as nauseum I guess, but saying it over and over is not going to convince anyone any faster, and when the default is “Maurice must go” because he has “lost the room”, that’s a bit rich when he has 694 career wins and has his team leading the division since December. Come game one of the playoffs the Jets will be in no better or worse position than Tampa. And when pressed on what should be changed, some critics cop out and say”I’m not a coach”. That backsliding should discredit those who “clearly” see Maurice as the problem. Bottom line, Goalie’s stance is clear, it has been more than a bit repetitive, and all I am saying is that I am tuning it out at this point. No personal insults being thrown out by me either about the intelligence of that take of Goalie’s, his opinion is his to share, whether it is adopted by the masses or not.

  24. Getting off topic, but I agree. B.C. people don't understand what we like about the Prairies. Other than the weather being better there (Vancouver area) for 6 months a year, they don't have anything on us. The traffic is better here, the cost of housing is way better...and the people (IMO) are generally more neighborly. Heh, just my 2 cents.

  28. Still. There’s probably a number of players in this league who could come in and compete. With this I would expect the level of cfl rookies this year to surpass what was seen in last years camp.

  32. It was really noticeable last night. They were not good. I honestly wonder if Maurice is paying attention to what is happening, in game. Scheifele's line was consistently hemmed in their own end, but he keeps putting them out there.... For over 22 minutes. If a line isn't playing well, ANY LINE, trim a few minutes off of their ice time. Or sit down the most obvious offender, for a few shifts.

Going to buy gas at Shell. I guess Shell wants to survive more than fifteen or twenty years, unlike the big American oil companies who want to make max CEO pay, right now. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-shell-afpm/shell-to-quit-u-s-refining-lobby-over-climate-disagreement-idUSKCN1RE0VB?utm_source=reddit.com

  45. Willard Reaves was a great back. Absolutely dominated his position in the CFL & was feared as he could deliver some punishing hits as a back & was strong enough to run over tacklers. On the next play he could finesse, dangle a tackler & then explode by him. He also had the advantage of a great OL blocking for him. Loved watching guys like Reaves, Miller & others play as they were all deserving of the praise heaped on them. However, I was fortunate enough to see Dave Raimey play. He played on a very bad football team. He didn't have the luxury of a great OL opening holes for him. Matter of fact, the OL that played in front of him was the worst in the CFL from 1967 thru the 1969 season. There wasn't a great qb calling the plays as Ken Ploen had retired to be replaced by the inept rookie John Schneider. There was no genius coordinator calling the plays just the hapless Joe Zaleski. Raimey had just one teammate who could be a threat as a receiver in flanker Ken Nielsen. That was it for the Bomber offense as far as personnel went. Raimey had to virtually do it all on his own. The result was he didn't have better stats than a number of other backs on this list. Yet between 1965 & the first 2 games of the 1969 season he rushed for almost 4,000 yards & was elected into the CFL HOF in 1989. That speaks volumes for a player stuck on not just a bad team at the time but a dreadful team! He was a CFL All Canadian in 1966 as well as a Western Conference All Star in 1965, 1966, 1967 & 1968 for Winnipeg. He was the CFL leading rusher in 1966. He was a dangerous kick returner as well with 3,234 KO yards for the Bombers. I know that this may sound like a cliche but he did put the Bombers on his back multiple times & carried that team as there was literally no one else that could do it. I don't see the nominees listed yet but once they are, he & Lewis will be my 2 choices. And no, Raimey was not an obscure player nor am I trying to impress anyone here with my knowledge. I'm trying to contribute & partake of that knowledge as I saw most of these players play. I known how good some of them were against their contemporaries. I too, am frustrated that a current player in Bryant won as a tackle over some other of the greats but it is what it is, I guess.
