  1. It would be hilarious if victor cui bought the elks and fired every one.

  2. For me it's not so much the accuracy but the logic behind the picks. For example, you can't convince me that the Bombers will go with 2 FB's in their 1st 3 picks of a fairly deep draft because of a "glaring need" at that position (according to Hodge). That's where he (and their site in general) falls way short. When you look at how the Bombers use a FB, what makes that a glaring need? Mike Miller, over the course of 4 seasons with us had 8 catches (10 targets), and 3 carries. Is that the kind of production you'd want to use a higher draft pick to replace? I get there's more to the FB role than the odd carry or catch but that's easily replaceable without using draft capitol.

  3. the Elks sucking bad...Mismanagaing things and poor front office work....not on Randy.....not a Randy supporter but this isn't due to anything he did...and he's just the puppet for the most part for the teams Boards anyway

  4. Article doesn't lead me to believe they are in debt with $7M in reserves. What they are saying is: They don't know how to restore the season ticket base They don't know how to restore the standing in the community Improve infrastructure Rather then sell, get rid of the board and bring in people who can fix points 1 and 2. Don't need to sell the club to do that. For point 3, I find it unlikely a private owner is going to invest a bunch of their own money in infrastructure.

  5. Can you really claim that title if you didn't know that it doesn't start for another 5 days? They've had 14 articles on the combine over the past 7 days (and another 6 the week before) on the CFL website, so it's not like they aren't talking about it. https://www.cfl.ca/category/cfl-combine/

  7. Sure, I’ll put together a mock when it makes sense. Since I know I’m who you’re asking about. Remember the mock drafts I shot down last year? And how I told you it was a bad draft year? I do. But in case you don’t … https://3downnation.com/2023/03/09/john-hodges-2023-cfl-mock-draft-1-0/ First overall pick went 16, nailed it. Our first pick at 8 went 20th, nailed it. 10 and 11 (as OL, nonetheless) went 48th and 57th and their situations didn’t change at all. I’m not criticizing his mock draft because he’s a bit off. I criticize it because it’s never even close, because he has no clue.

  8. I actually think more "community owned" teams would be beneficial for the CFL. Private ownership has its own issues, as we have seen terrible owners and also complete lack of good candidates in some cases.

  9. Who would even get the money when a non profit is sold privately? The article talks about how the club is in rough times financially, some due to the pandemic, some due to the record. Club success is cyclical and that should not be reason to sell the club. The other they give is they need a new stadium. If we've learned anything over the last 20 years, private owners aren't typically willing to put down a lot of their own capital to build stadiums / arenas. Like it or not, this inevitably comes from the tax payer. So why sell the club to a private owner to reap that potential benefit? Don't like this one bit.

  13. That wasn't the main one and there's a reason they don't advertise it out to everyone. No disrespect to the attendees but from the clips I saw there wasn't a lot of professional level talent.

  14. I like reading Dunk's mock, but Hodges has been completely out to lunch every year he has made one. Like really bad. I'm not going to pretend I could put one together that is better because I really don't know any of these guys but I will at least have the courtesy to not do so knowing that. Hodge may want to do the same.

I'm a word nerd. Love a good game of scrabble - in person - not on an app. I'm also an avid reader, when my brain isn't fried from too much marking (mostly non-fiction). I enjoy writing when I have time for it - I created a book of poetry and photography for my wife - one Christmas I teach Grade 11 Canadian History, and I am endlessly interested in any local history. We are avid bird watchers: geese are already returning, which means everything else is not far behind. We look forward to the tundra swan migration, and all the duck varieties over at Oak Hammock. Also, spending time with our daughter, occasional fishing or hiking expeditions, and barbeque / camp fire cooking. In spring, summer, or fall...you are likely find me relaxing beside the firepit, at least once a week.

  16. Agreed. Also the top players by position and dark horses / sleepers post. I think it’d be fun to have a bunch of media types do their own mock draft. Say barker picks for Toronto, farhan for bc etc. wouldnt be much out side of entertainment but I think it would be fun for 3ish rounds.

  17. It'd be a bigger blow if they ceased operations. Every team in the West used to be community owned.

  18. I'd like to see Jim Barker do a mock draft. At least he knows the players & could probably do a very good job but it's TSN so it'll never happen. Instead we have Hodge.

  19. For our league, I prefer the “5-10 players to look at” type of articles to mock drafts most of the time. I’d only read mocks from media like Dunk, or the CFP guys who actually follow USports.

I play Ultimate and coach my daughter's softball team as my main hobbies. I enjoy golfing in the summer and skiing in the winter, but don't get out to do either nearly as much as I would like. I used to curl a lot, but stopped when my daughter was born... I really want to get back into it, but don't know anyone who curls and is looking for an additional player. I'm also a gamer, mostly PC but some Console as well. I'm a aspiring maker/tinkerer. I love woodworking projects and want to get into 3D printing and CNC but I just don't have the space for it yet, but hopefully soon.

  24. The L's went LB with the 2nd overall pick last year (Michael Brodrique) and he played all 18 games for them last year. If they feel he's ready to step up this year, they may not need Dublanko. It's also Chris Jones so logic doesn't always apply and it's anybody's guess what he'll do.

  28. Almost none of those guys played fullback in U Sports. That's kind of the point Hodge is missing too. Teams convert big receivers, tailbacks or guys who played D over. The guys playing FB in U Sports aren't pro level athletes. There's not a lot of futures guys anymore with the eligibility changes and I don't think they'd prefer that anyway. Our Canadian depth is extremely light right now. They need to get 4-5 immediate players at least out of this draft...guys who can be on the roster and guys who can fill in off PR. Otherwise they'll be dumpster diving to backfill the bottom third of the roster.

  29. I'm a landscaper by trade but I've been a hobby gardener for even longer. My wife and I are constantly carving out sections of our lawn to make space for more plants. We've put about 15 years of work and experimentation into our back yard and it's still getting better every year. This summer I solarized half my front lawn to make way for a new perennial garden... a section of my lawn has been infested with creeping bellflower for probably 100 years so it is not going quietly, drastic measures were called for... so I took my version of the nuclear option and killed it all off with cardboard and bark mulch. Soon it will habitat for the birds and bees, candy for the eye and food for the soul. Man I love working in my garden. Great exercise too. Can't wait for spring.

I'm actually a part time gamer (I work mostly with Retro games), a majority of it I do during the summer months when I'm not at work, one thing I want to try and get back onto and finishing once and for all is uploading all of the commercials I have onto my youtube channel, it definitely gave me something to do during the worst of COVID This is everything I uploaded onto my channel so far (yeah that bit from family channel is there because it is I don't know why youtube does this)

  32. That was not official Combine that was regional ones to get invites to the main one in Winnipeg next week I think.

  33. The CFL Combine last week created little buzz for the upcoming season, most media outlets paid no attention to it at all, including league partner TSN. This has to be the dullest off-season in recent memory, hopefully they bring back the concept of CFL Week next year in Wpg. and they put some effort into creating a bigger spotlight for their product during the off-season. The league has regressed in this department, the biggest story this winter has been bad boy Chad Kelly and we can't even fight about it anymore! 😄

it's definitely not cheap, but generally really enjoyable with the right group of people. I don't enjoy golf with randos. It's best when it's a scramble-type event. My goal in life is to be able to Fish in the early AM, golf during the day when it's too hot for the fish and the bite dies, then fish again in the evening. One day....

  37. I didn't see the rationale in Hodge having us take 1 let alone 2 full backs. I also thought based on his mock, why take a fb when you could take Theo Benedet instead since we essentially have a bonus 2nd rounder.

  45. Not sure I get the vitriol towards 3downnation and John Hodge. We all love the CFL. TSN and Sportsnet barely cover any off season news. Even in season, while broadcasting games, TSN is pretty light on content other than game summary articles. 3downnation has been around since 2015 and overall does a better job than anywhere else with CFL news. cfl.ca is good, and Ed Tait writes some really interesting content on bluebombers.com. But 3downnation is really my first stop to get any CFL content that I'm interested in - signings, draft profiles, USports stuff, CFL players in the NFL ... I like what they do. And I am in no way affiliated or compensated by the 3downnation corporation 😃

  46. Stellar defensive back. Part of Marv Levy's great 70's Montreal defensive teams. First team All American at Georgia Tech. Drafted by the NO Saints in 1975. Signed instead with Charlotte of the WFL in 1975 & played one season for the Hornets. Signed with the Als in 1976 & played for them thru the 1980 season. He then signed with the Ottawa Rough Riders in 81 before retiring. He was a CFLEastern Conference All Star in 1977, 78 & 81 as well as named to the CFL All Canadian team as a DB the same years he was an Eastern All Star. Returned 31 kickoffs during his career & over 300 punt returns. He had 22 interceptions as well during his career. He was a real stud. One of the best players in the CFL during that era.
