Your hate for the guy doesn't mean you need to go on a tirade every time he talks. Go read the financial reports of the community teams. It is brutally obvious that the majority of revenue comes from ticket sales. This isn't a revelation for the CFL Ticket pricing will be optimized to bring in the most revenue. Selling 100 - $80 tickets brings in more money then 150 - $40 tickets The CFL has known how broken their model is for a long time. Again, this isn't a revelation. Teams on the brink of bankruptcy, delusional owners, owners owning multiple teams. They are here because of owners like Bob Young and David Braley have absorbed the losses for years for the love of the game. This is not new news and should not be shocking. The alternative here and what we have been close to so many times is the league folding.

Sean McGuire “I want to get back up there and prove myself, for sure. But, more than anything, I’m just chomping at the bit to get back to my teammates and just do my job. I’m going to continue to try and learn from Zach. Last year down the stretch learning from him was unbelievable and our relationship grew a lot. I learned so much from him in a short period of time and even in these Zoom meetings, just being able to pick his brain and hear him communicate and how he dissects things on the field has made me absolutely excited to get back and continue to prove myself to my teammates. I want to continue to earn trust in the locker room with my teammates, that comes first.“All I can do – all everyone can do – is just wait this thing out.”https://www.bluebombers.com/2020/05/23/column-story-sean-mcguire/

    Today I Learned

Although I seem to know less as I learn more, I can't help myself from seeking new information. This Topic is best utilized for older stories of historic and scientific nature, or they'd be in the "Random News Section". Mods can kill this if they don't see a need, but I imagine at least some of us are learning something new almost every day that's worth sharing. Maybe instead of arguing about the same old things, we might want to figure out why we're arguing and how we got here. Today I learned (from a 2012 news article) that humans almost became extinct 72,000 years ago. How Human Beings Almost Vanished From Earth In 70,000 B.C. October 22, 201212:33 PM ET Add all of us up, all 7 billion human beings on earth, and clumped together we weigh roughly 750 billion pounds. That, says Harvard biologist E.O. Wilson, is more than 100 times the biomass of any large animal that's ever walked the Earth. And we're still multiplying. Most demographers say we will hit 9 billion before we peak, and what happens then? Well, we've waxed. So we can wane. Let's just hope we wane gently. Because once in our history, the world-wide population of human beings skidded so sharply we were down to roughly a thousand reproductive adults. One study says we hit as low as 40. https://www.npr.org/sections/krulwich/2012/10/22/163397584/how-human-beings-almost-vanished-from-earth-in-70-000-b-c

    2019-20 CFL Offseason

This e-mail from the commish came to me yesterday. April 29, 2020 Dear Season Seat Holder, I hope this letter finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy. If you are one of the thousands of essential workers putting yourself at risk for the rest of us, thank you. If you are simply doing your part to fight this pandemic and following the rules as they come, thank you for that as well. Most of all, thank you for supporting the CFL, and your team, by purchasing season seats. You and fans like you are the lifeblood of the Canadian Football League. We are deeply grateful for your commitment to us. We want you to know we are committed to you and to the future of the CFL – and to building an even bigger and brighter future for Canadian football, together. Right now, like you, we’re trying to cope with the fact that Covid-19 has literally created a world of uncertainty. We are following the news, listening to public health experts, and monitoring the latest from our political leaders, for signs that life will start to return to normal and, when and if the time is right, we can safely get back to football and back to gathering together in our stadiums. Like you, we’re doing all we can to weather this storm. We’re optimistic and we’re looking forward. We remain hopeful we’ll have a great season in 2020. But this pandemic is forcing us to also consider all the other possibilities, including the ones we hate to consider, such as fewer games this year or even a cancelled season, if that is what we have to do to help keep Canada safe and healthy. You may have seen in the media that we have reached out to the federal government. We’ve told them we may need help, especially if these worst-case scenarios come to pass. We have stressed we want to be accountable to you and all taxpayers, and that we would want to repay them using all of the tools at our disposal, including advertising in our stadiums and online, programs in the community in support of a wide range of important causes, tourism promotion around our games and Grey Cup, and through content and digital partnerships. You’ve already helped us by investing in season seats. Your support, patience and understanding through this challenging time helps us even more. I can’t thank you enough. I wish I could return your loyalty by telling you how all of this will turn out, when our games will start and exactly what our season will look like. Unfortunately, all we can do right now is be as transparent as possible, to tell you we are working through all the possibilities, and to be as deeply grateful to you as you clearly deserve. Whatever you are going through, at work or home or in your family, I want you to know we consider you an important part of our CFL family. If you have lost a loved one, or you are coping with the effect this virus can have on anyone’s physical, mental or financial health, please know we are thinking of you. I know we’re going to get through this together. And when we do, it’s going to be a great day for Canada. We’ll celebrate football, friendship and our resilience. And more than anything else, when we see you again at the game, we’re going to celebrate you. Thank you so much, Randy Ambrosie Commissioner, Canadian Football League

    2020 CFL Draft

yeah that draft, and the high upside potential of Oliveira, Eli and Griffths affords us the luxury of this year not really having a need to roster someone from this draft, and would be a good draft for us to draft a futures type guy who may not surface here for a year or 2 We'll be getting significant contributions from Oliveira, most likely Griffiths and Eli this year (second yr guys at that) and more progression from Exume and Hallett...far more than what any draftee will give us this year as he learns the pro game coupled with the fact on offence all our starters and back-ups are back and with what we have brought back, and signed on defense all will be more usefull than a fresh faced college graduate...be perfect time to look at a futures guy in my opinion

Just as a matter of caution, I think that visitors from Saskatchewan should be required to pass through a trough of sheep dip at the Manitoba border. It wouldn't stop the Coronavirus, but I just like the idea of de-lousing them.

The game Demski played in the Grey Cup doesn't get nearly enough love. I am critical of the guy at times but he was huge in that game and if not for Harris being Harris he could easily have taken the top canadian in the game award.

This is an overlooked part of our playoff run. Usually there's luck involved with reffing, but we got none. The refs gave Calgary a TD a few minutes in to the game then proceeded to have most calls go their way. Sask game, Fajardo is 2 yards past the LOS and makes a 10+ yard completion. Bogus call. Start of the GC, Jefferson gets a very suspect RTP right off the hop. They overcame it all and didn't let it get to them. That's what makes Mike O'shea an elite coach.

I'm not as concerned about the CFL not having a firm business plan for their initial meeting. Ambrosie explained prior to that meeting that they were just going there to say "Listen, we are totally and completely f***ed if you don't help us..." and that was about it. He just wanted to make sure they knew that. After that, then they'd go into the nuts and bolts and come back with something more official. I'm 75% confident this is all going to work out and the feds will find a way to keep the CFL going until there's a vaccine and fans can come back.

Wade Miller would make a great CFL commissioner one day. I don't know if he would leave his post as el presidente of the Bombers, but he's a great candidate. He has the business acumen, understands the struggles of the league and bleeds all things CFL.

    Covid-19

God do all you right wing nutters have meetings to get your talking points straight? Cause I swear it's always the exact same arguments from every one of you. Sweden is in no way shape or form an example that the USA could ever follow. Sweden is a small socialist country. They have a robust social safety net and well funded health care system... and they are still have issues no matter how much anyone wants to pretend they aren't. The USA meanwhile has pay to play Healthcare and sweet **** all for a social safety net. If they just let er buck with this virus it would be devastating to them because such a large portion of their population lacks access to Healthcare to start with. In the States someone could go bankrupt having to go to the hospital as easily as they could "suffering" through a lockdown. It is high time people stop looking at things like this in terms of it just being about covid-19. All cover has done is peel back the layers and expose which countries have shitty governments and systems in place. It's why I don't like the "but unemployment will kill more people!!1!" Nonsense that gets tossed around. It's up to governments to support their people through this making the conclusions null and void unless the government does nothing. In which case it isn't the virus that is the problem, it's uncaring government content to get rich off the plebs and if they die so be it, it was so a bunch of already rich people could get just a tiny bit richer. That is the real issue being exposed here. As a nation we can afford to take measures to slow the spread of this virus AND support people financially through it. It's not an either or choice. As I have said for ever, we aren't trying to stop this thing, only slow it down enough so that people don't have to die unnecessarily because too many people got sick at once. Herd immunity isn't something that only happens if everyone gets infected at once, it will happen as more people are exposed, which will naturally happen with a slow, phased re-opening of things. We take our time getting back to normal, we can care for the ones who get sick and still get that herd immunity (if it's something that lasts. These things mutate fast enough a new strain could show up in a few years that we don't have the resistance to.

Tanner Cadwallader 7th round draft pick Coach O’Shea called me shortly after I was picked. That alone was just an amazing experience,” said Cadwallader. “As soon as I saw his name come up on my phone I was on top of the world because he’s somebody I idolized since I was a kid. “He played at Guelph, which is a short drive from my place. You go through Guelph’s facility and there are these 12-foot pictures of him. I’ve got books about Canadian football that he’s quoted in… he’s such an icon and a legend. So, to have that guy calling me – even just for interviews before the draft – it’s incredible. I keep using that word – incredible – but it’s how I feel.“What I like about watching the Bombers is all of those guys seem to play with their hearts on their sleeves and they’re diehards. I’m excited to be a part of that because that’s the way I like to play.“I love the culture they’ve built in Winnipeg. I can’t wait to be a part of it.”https://www.bluebombers.com/2020/05/05/just-love-game-cadwallader-thrilled-play-coach-oshea/

Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with the CFL asking for assistance to maintain what has to be considered a huge part of many Canadian’s lives. A part of Canadian culture. Part of Canadian history. A huge part of the Canadian entertainment industry.Diversity is strength. It matters. For the love of the game. The Rouge. We could lose it all.We cannot let that happen.
