  4. 15) Dru Brown, Winnipeg Blue Bombers (A) Hard money: $82,000 Maximum value: $97,000 The Oklahoma State product has a $75,000 base salary with $7,000 in housing money and will collect $500 each time he plays more than 51 percent of Winnipeg’s offensive plays in a game.

  5. The confidence with which some people post their ignorant opinions is staggering. He won't get $300k. He's making more than VAJ.

  6. Barriere looks to be the spittin' image of V.A., pocket passer with good mobility and a good arm, not much for rolling out or throwing on the run though, he likes to be planted. He has the talent but whether he can learn to adjust his game or read the field at all remains to be seen, it only took V.A. 6 years to establish himself as a starter.

  7. Wasn't his nickname "Big Tuna" when he played or am I mistaken? I think Barriere has great upside, just not sure I would be comfortable with a raw rookie at number 2. However, if he wins the job he wins the job.

  8. If we have to start Augustine then we're in trouble running the ball. I don't think he's good enough to carry the load 15-20 times a game for 18 games. If Oliveira leaves then watch the Bombers bring in six or 7 American running backs before training camp. The Bombers will make the change in the backfield to an American back during the pre season. Just my prediction. Milanovich-LItre? Yikes. He's not the answer. He's not even the question.

  9. Well, I massively disagree with your explanation, though I agreed with the original point. Assuming Zach plays the majority of games, Strev is so much more valuable to us than Brown. If we were replacing Zach, I want to roll with Brown (and still hopefully have Strev).

  10. But this staff has refused to do that. Even when Brady was struggling. To think they're going to give him a starting opportunity is laughable.

  11. Augustine is your backup RB and special teamer. He's got some great tools - speed mainly. He can gash you if he gets a hole. He's no joke. But not the greatest blocker and I don't think teams are game-planning for him.

  12. Anyone who thinks JA is the answer should see how Tony Pollard did for Dallas this year

  13. Even if he's the worst starter in the league....that's how he's being paid. He accepted the absolute minimum offer as far as I'm concerned.

  14. I don't want to to beat this to death too much longer, but I don't really understand how you consider it an overpay. He will be either the lowest paid or in the lowest tier of being paid. How much lower than the next lowest paid starter can a team reasonably be expected to pay?

  15. Sure hope you're right. I could see us going with Zach-Strev-Barriere this season.

  16. I think you're forgetting he signed that contract while still a backup to Rourke. They were so set on VA being the #1 they went out and got Evans too. Like others have said his contract has been re-worked. Also what a weird ass hill to die on lol.

  18. Yup I've heard standing upright as a QB is important.

  19. At least since 2019 - he may have come off and put back on at some point but the club has been watching/waiting for a few years now. https://www.bluebombers.com/2019/08/15/negotiation-list-revealed/

  20. Also, prior to last year VAj was a middling QB.

  21. It's more than Adams is getting. You know Adams, been in the league since 2016, thrown for more than 13,000 yards, ran for 1400, the third best QB in the league last year, took his team to the Western Final, that Vernon Adams.

  22. f you told me the game is tied at 0 with 10 minutes left without 55, 13, 37 and 44 and 5 straight Leafs powerplays...I'd be pretty happy!

  23. I think 300k is going rate for a possible 1 who has looked as good as dru has now a days. It’s not Zack money. It’s 2nd contract after showing serious potential elsewhere QB going rate. Fair deal.

  24. 2022 week 1 Brady has 10 carries for 17 and Johnny gets 3 carries for 10. week 2 Brady 14 for 48 and Johnny 7 for 43. week 3 Brady 15 for 56, Johnny 2 for 3. week 4 Brady 7 for 28, Johnny 1 for -1 week 5 7 for 39 for Brady and Johnny 12 for 57 week 6 Brady 9 for 8 and Johnny 7 for 33 So the first 6 weeks of 22, BO is 62 for 176 which is 2.8 ypc and Winnipeg never switched to Augustine as the starting rb. Its not happening. He was 32 for 145 or 4.3 ypc which isn't great either.

  25. Strev is worth more to us right now. Don't think we would be spending that much on Strev in hard money , but I can definitely see a performance/incentive laden contract in case Zach gets put on the 6 game at some point.

  26. Just curious why it has taken over 5 years to get to this point. These guys should have been in jail 4 years ago already.

  27. He’s not going to get them. You can believe what you want, but this coaching staff has shown again and again that they don’t see him as a starting option. Or even a role player. He’s a special teamer.

  28. Yeah Augustine is what he is. Can make a few big plays but there's no consistency there.
    2 points
  29. According the CFL transactions Augustine has re-signed. They also have Demski being added to the roster but he was already on the roster. Normally if a player reworks his contract there is also a corresponding deletion from the roster.

  30. You asked about reps, not years of experience, so that's what I showed you - a direct comparison of how many snaps they took. Besides, all of that "experience" isn't quite what you make it out to be when you look at what he did and how long he was with those teams. For example, how much experience did he gain in the 36 hours that he was signed to the Bills? The only team he actually got any game experience with was the Arizona Rattlers. I wouldn't say he got years of experience kicking around like that any more than I would say Tyrell Ford got a year of NFL experience last year. As far as his time as a starter goes, it started prior to Ottawa. Harris started 16 games with Toronto in 2015, when Ray was hurt so teams got a good look at him that year. He signed with Ottawa in 2016, and Burris had re-structed his deal so neither guy was making big money (for a starting QB) that season - they were both going to make around $250k + play time bonuses. Ottawa had structured both QB contracts in a way that it was clear Harris was the starter in 2017. Burris was going to make 200k in 2017 while Harris made 400k. Burris retired before the season so it didn't really matter in the end. https://3downnation.com/2016/11/24/henry-burris-trevor-harris/ Harris had led the league in passing TD's in 2015 with Toronto (was 3rd in passing yards too) so I guess that was enough for Ottawa to feel justified in the payout.

  32. I'm honestly baffled people thought he'd get less than 300k. After the Edmonton game I remember saying he just wrote himself a big cheque! Good for him. Hopefully it pans out.

  33. Dru Brown is not coming back. If he's successful, he'll stay in Ottawa. If he sucks, he's going to Regina. That's where you go when you suck.
    2 points
  34. I like it. We beat Ottawa in the 25 GC at home. Collaros retires. Brown sees what he missed and comes back here to run 1/2 with Streveler for another 5 years.

  35. He’d be a good guy to split reps, like what Hamilton used to try to do. Go ni rb extra imp wr package. Or go imp rb or two back etc. home run hitter with an ni pass port. He’s not consistent, he can’t grind out yards, isn’t a capable catcher or blocker. If Augustine becomes the starter people will be off his bandwagon faaast. Just doesn’t work with our o.

  36. yeah it was the right call. I thought our power play was bad, man the Leafs are hot garbage. I know that Toronto plans the Stanley Cup parade every year in October but this edition just looks really bad.

  39. I don't know if Bombers called on their RBs to block very often. I mean, if it comes down to needing a blocker in the backfield, what's Damian Jackson - chopped liver?

  40. LOL I agree. I was being sarcastic (actually telling the truth, could care less about the Leafs) knowing how all of Canada is supposedly supposed to follow every single bit of Leafs news and know every player by heart - NOT! Bite me Leafs!!

  42. @TBURGESS it's called taking a risk and a gamble. I'd say it's worth it based on the options that they had.

  43. Ford was a second round pick in 2022. Here's a bunch of gobbledygook that explains the limitations of his contract. The 2019 CBA introduces a rookie salary structure for Nationals first contract consisting of 2 years plus a team option. A Max. Min salary is defined as $65,000 for the first two years of the contract, with a maximum housing allowance or signing/roster bonus of $7,500 per season and maximum 50% + 1 bonus based on snaps of $7,500 per season for a maximum earnings of $80,000 for first and second round picks in their first two seasons, with the third season base salary not exceeding the second year base salary by more that 10%.

  47. Longtime Stamps Left tackle Bruce Covernton passed away two days ago in his sleep. Apparently, he had a massive heart attack. He was only 57 years of age. I knew Bruce as he coached with me at Centennial High School in 2008 here in Calgary. Covernton was born in Morris, MB. After Covernton played HS football in Winnipeg, he attended Weber State & then was drafted by the Stamps in 1992. He played LT for them from 1992-98. Covernton was named the CFL's Western Division ROTY. Covernton was a CFL West Division All Star in 1993 & 94. He was named an All Canadian at Left Tackle in 1994. He was a two time Grey Cup Champion in 1992 & 98. Upon retiring, Bruce took up permanent residence here. He was an entrepreneur & was active in local charities in Calgary. He founded a company that imported coffee from Columbia. Then Covernton bought a personnel staffing company & it was very successful. He was quite a character & will be missed.

  48. Yup and I'm assuming, if it's proven these players did nefarious things, that the Edmonton Oilers will sign them all.
