    Today I Learned

Although I seem to know less as I learn more, I can't help myself from seeking new information. This Topic is best utilized for older stories of historic and scientific nature, or they'd be in the "Random News Section". Mods can kill this if they don't see a need, but I imagine at least some of us are learning something new almost every day that's worth sharing. Maybe instead of arguing about the same old things, we might want to figure out why we're arguing and how we got here. Today I learned (from a 2012 news article) that humans almost became extinct 72,000 years ago. How Human Beings Almost Vanished From Earth In 70,000 B.C. October 22, 201212:33 PM ET Add all of us up, all 7 billion human beings on earth, and clumped together we weigh roughly 750 billion pounds. That, says Harvard biologist E.O. Wilson, is more than 100 times the biomass of any large animal that's ever walked the Earth. And we're still multiplying. Most demographers say we will hit 9 billion before we peak, and what happens then? Well, we've waxed. So we can wane. Let's just hope we wane gently. Because once in our history, the world-wide population of human beings skidded so sharply we were down to roughly a thousand reproductive adults. One study says we hit as low as 40. https://www.npr.org/sections/krulwich/2012/10/22/163397584/how-human-beings-almost-vanished-from-earth-in-70-000-b-c

This is not an in depth analysis but Pallister has just acted like a **** too often during this crisis. (See Hydro cuts as one example).

This is good news. I think the majority of the people of the province have done a great job to slow the spread down. If we all continue to act with common sense we should be able to keep winning.

  8. That wasn't the first broadcast where they've done that sort of thing. Has become very common in the last couple of years. Someone there thinks it is a good idea and people like it. Maybe they think it caters to and draws in the casual fan. Either way, I have no confidence that they've learned their lesson.

How true... Howard Stern: “The oddity in all of this is the people Trump despises most, love him the most. The people who are voting for Trump for the most part... he wouldn’t even let them in a f*cking hotel. He’d be disgusted by them.”

  11. Mike O’Shea took a few minutes Tuesday morning to step outside and look up at the sky as the Snowbirds flew a loop around Winnipeg as part of ‘Operation Inspiration.’“I was actually standing there waving up in the air,” began the Blue Bombers head coach with a chuckle during a Zoom call with bluebombers.com not long after the flyover.“I know they can’t see me, but I did it.”This is usually one of my favourite times, when the players show up,” said O’Shea. “It’s just watching the interactions between the players who haven’t seen each other from whenever everything wraps up and guys have a couple nights out after the season. And some guys take off right away.”I just have so much faith in the resiliency of the CFL and the people leading it that we’re going to manage to get this done,” O’Shea said. “It does me no good to think the other way.https://www.bluebombers.com/2020/05/12/believe-leagues-ability-unite-country/

  15. yup it's TSN. They don't trust the game to sell itself and try and fancy it up with all these bonus segments! Trouble is it does more to turn people off than encourage new fans. No one is going to suddenly start giving a **** about football just because some clueless singer starts blabbing about useless inane crap.

Yeah, I was saying the same thing about Kenney here in AB. The guy is a first class *******, for sure, but he's at least got the brains to understand that the health professionals are the ones who know what's going on and you have to listen to them first and foremost. Let the Chief Medical Officers of Health do their thing...that's what they're there for .

I'll give him credit for heeding the advice of Roussin. Making science-based decisions has helped our province in handling this pandemic.

  21. I think he and Manitoba have done a good job with the public health matters. Im here nor there on the seniors money because I wouldnt come down negatively on helping seniors. But the cuts to Hydro are absurd and are obviously being done using the pandemic as an excuse. Cuts to the UofM I do not favour as well. But I can promise you that Wab will whine about cuts today and then whine about the deficit next year. Without a viable Liberal Party and if Pallister keeps alienating people, Manitoba has no real political options.

Trump is one of those guys who has money but is still shunned by the upper class because he completely lacks class. That's who he desperately wants the approval of, instead he has to settle for Jimbo and his fellow racist white trash losers.

As predicted, it didn't take the Trump mouthpieces on Fox - Carlson, Hannity and Ingraham.... long to crank on Dr. Fauci, after his testimony yesterday, calling him a buffoon, dictator and Democratic enabler. Also praising Rand Paul as the person who should be trusted to deliver the straight goods on the virus!! Hard to make this stuff up.....but somehow Fox manages to do it.

I think the point of discussion is either like minded people engaging in a discussion about a subject that interests them or those who are not like minded engaging in a debate about their point, hopefully open-mindedly. But you've shown zero propensity to be open minded at all. You're fully on the Trump crazy train. Also, let me be clear that not every opposing view is worthy if debate or discussion. Aligned values with sexual abusers, racists etc are not open to "difference of opinion". In my opinion.

So yeah Manitoba isn't the only province making cuts. the hatchet man Jason Kenney has been cutting away all along AND he's already told doctors that once this is over he's got an axe with their name on it. ******* conservatives in this country man.

  39. They should get full CERB if they live in Canada. The guys who don’t should get zero. The point of CERB is to maintain Canada’s economy not ship money across the border. International students in Canada are getting CERB. Pro athletes living here who aren’t permanent residents would be similar to me.

  40. If I am one of those American players I have no interest in that because once the league starts operating again I’ll pay it all back in tax on both sides of the border. Unfortunately a lot of the American players are confronting their football mortality. Unless they can hang on until 2021 or 2022 might be time to move on and get a “real” job.

  44. I remember Ron Lancaster going on a rant while doing the color during the 1987 Grey Cup game I believe, on the CBC telecast (back then they simul-broadcast the game on both CTV and CBC). He might have been drunk. He lambasted all the critics of the CFL, in Don Cherry-esque fashion. I remember agreeing with him, but also thinking that it wasn't the time or place for it. Anyone else remember that? Speedflex? He got a lot of flak for it, and I don't think ever did another Grey Cup game again.
