Not my saying, but thought it was applicable here: Few things in life bring more joy than Rider misery. I cherish your tears, and your lamentations are the sweetest music.

Translation: Just in case no one offers me a contract I can say that I didn't want one. Someone please offer me a contract.

My favourite comment about this on Riderfans was that this was a precursor to a trade. Pretty funny to see other posters there explaining that you can't trade a guy you just released.

If they retain Jones after the season...how in the hell does any free agent player sign in Saskatchewan?
  7. 3 points
Well, I hate to be negative...but on Friday night our receivers were open all night long...lots of overthrown balls

I would hardly say Ottawa is 'hot' right now - they barely won against the Als last night, and the week before imploded against Toronto. They are also only .500 on the road thus far. Edmonton and Calgary are still the teams to beat. That's not to say Friday will be a cake walk - it is the CFL and anything can happen, I just think we're a better team than Ottawa overall. As for Nichols - I think he just had an off game against the 'cats. He'll bounce back.

If Owens is going to sign it will be after Aug 20th when 1st year players can start signing one year contracts.

The quarterback is no longer the main problem in Montreal. Manziel is learning. He is inexperienced, but watching him, you can tell he has talent. The receivers dropped a few of his passes on Saturday.
  13. 2 points
Honestly, even though he's a prima donna, I feel bad for Carter here. No denying his talent, and Jones throwing him on defence after an all-star season as a receiver was just plain dumb. Then to find out from his teammates and Jones' response when Carter contacts him - well, no one deserves that treatment.

In what crazy world would you have to be in to want Carter anywhere near this team? Saskatchewan just got a bit better (addition by subtraction) because at least a little bit of the dumpster fire fuel has been removed and now you want to bring it here? I don't care if he has some talent. He's a such cancer to any team that touches him that only the most desperate would. Let him go to Montreal.

    1. Bighill - could Durant quitting the team be the biggest move of the year? Without it we can't afford to sign a star MLB. 2. Harris - the engine that drives the offence 3. Medlock - 44.7 yard NET punting avg. (same as his overall avg!) is unheard of. Controlled the field position battlr. HH - loved Petermann's YAC yards and blocking contributions, but give it to 3rd string QB Bryan Burnett for making a tackle (and a good one at that) on special teams!!

    Montreal @ Ottawa

Almost 500 yards passing and 24 points, threw a TD pass and a pick six. Not my player of the game.

Odds and Sods - Hamilton at Winnipeg

Was Bennett. You know everyone has bought in when the 3rd string QB is becoming a special teams beast.

Cutting Carter was pure and simple: it was a salary dump... coming up on week 10 they would have had to pay him for the whole year if he played one more game ... you don't want to lose a draft pick next spring for being over the salary cap ... nor do you want to be exposed for having such a high salary low performance team in front the country's most delusional fans

Some interesting things to consider from this game 13 offensive drives (im not counting the snap and kneels at the end of the game) 5 2 and outs + the fumble drive which was 2 plays long. Thats 6/13 drives yielding 12 offensive plays. + 2 5 play drives with the last play being a punt. 8/13 bad offensive drives. the other 5 drives? all scored points. Starting position for those 5 drives? the hamilton 50 (td), the hamilton 26(td), our 45 (fg), our 35(td), and the hamilton 54 yard line. In those 5 drives the first had a 30 yard run by harris, started at the 26, the third was the double PI and roughing that moved the ball 31 yards, the last two drives are classic plop drives. Ball control, moving the ball around, keeping harris involved in multiple ways. And of course, both those drives featured key first down YAC runs by petermann. Special teams really wont this game for us. medlock averaged 44.7 net yards punting. limiting williams to 3 returns for 0 yards. Medlock averaged 67.4 yards per kick off, and erlington averaged 22.4 yards per kick off return. Mean while demski averaged 33.3 yards per kick off return (on 70.2 for lirim) and we averaged about 5 yards per punt return while lirim had a net of 35.2 I dont know why we didnt adjust away from those deep passes. I get it that hamilton plays the most man coverage, and that you can create a lot when the saftey slides or shows blitz. But when our offense is at its best they are setting up deep balls slowly. We need for this to be our worst offensive game play call and execution wise for the year. Gotta get back to doing better then this.

I wouldn't say it's an entirely clean slate in Toronto. Popp was the GM who cut him in Montreal for his sh**ty behaviour. He's desperate to turn around the Argos season though so he might take the risk.

Carter is the author of his own misfortune, but this does not excuse Jones in any way. The Riders had to know who they were hiring, so I have little sympathy for management there. After the debacle that Jones has been, there is enough blame to go around for all.

Personally, I hope he ends up with the Cleveland Browns...or McDonald's... that'd be good too.

ehh depends on how you define it. Right now id say calgary is the only elite team. And even they have an asterisk. I would put us, ottawa and edmonton in the second tier as contenders. Id personally have us at the top of that pile. We play like an elite team every other game, then we surge and coast in the follow up. We dont have the consistent dominance to be elite yet. Would duron carter make us soo much better that itd be note worth? no. Im a big believe in the guys talents. No can can deny he is an excellent player. But we are stacked at wr this year. We have more guys then we have ability to use. Kenbrell thompkins in edmonton would be top 5 in every category imo. Duron is a better player then adams and dressler. But his negative in terms of head case and chemistry is far too large. We dont have a need at wr right now. I wouldnt take any of our wrs off the roster right now. I could see BC, and montreal being interested. Maybe hamilton. But I think the most likely one in TO.

Man you would think that of all people his dad could sit him down and explain to him that he is wasting his football life being a piece of ****. His dad was a jerk but managed to control it enough to have a 15 year NFL career and be one of the greatest ever. Duron is the typical million dollar talent, 10 cent brain. What a waste.

I don't think I've ever seen a team release a player during their bye week. When I saw the news come out during the game last night the first thing that came to mind was that Carter got himself in to trouble again. I can't wait to see Terrell Owens **** the bed wearing green and white.

Amen! This X "infinity" Mr. Carter can apply his trade anywhere else but here IMHO. Will be interesting to hear what comes out of the Chris Jones presser that should take place in about 30 minutes or so in Regina.

The deep balls were a problem. Nichols wasn't connecting. That is a huge problem as we kept doing it & it did not work.
  43. 1 point
Not wrong. Matty has to play better or we won't be able to compete with Calgary or Edmonton in the playoffs. But that's not a position we can address. Streveler needs to sit back and learn for a couple years before challenging Matty. He just needs to do whatever he needs to do to get back to where he was at last season.
  44. 1 point
Winnipeg should consider signing him. Our receiving core lacks the depth of talent that other top tier teams have and talent wise he's still one of the top guys in the CFL if he plays receiver on a regular basis. Or maybe we should just wait for Montreal to cut Jackson.
  45. 1 point
Maybe to early to say but I don't see Manziel becoming much of anything in the CFL

Not a huge loss considering he whiffed on a few tackles today... My guess... they trade Roosevelt to us in exchange for Flanders and they will then run an offense with no receivers and all rbs!
