Collaros looked cooked 10 years ago because of his injuries - the fact he's healthy & still playing at all is remarkable.

This coming season my man ZC is going to stay healthy, light it up, lead us to Grey Cup victory and retire on top. At the very least it feels good writing this. Off season hope.

Considering they sold out the entire season and hosted the Grey Cup, I'm guessing quite a bit. Interesting to see the total.

It's true, but there are other factors that make it less likely for us. Like, none of them were turning 38 years old when they had the comeback. Doing that in your early 30s is very different than doing it at 40. None of them had the massive list of serious injury concerns Zach has faced his whole career. Zach already had one miraculous career resurgence, and it wasn't one big injury that held Zach out or back last year. He's been held back by a big old stack of medical issues for the last 2 years. We will be giving Zach basically the best case scenario this year. More OL talent than you could shake a stick at. Seriously, our send best OL unit this year is better than the best of the last 2.5 years or so. Rbs and depth, WRs with top-end talent, and an OC that is basically hand-picked for him. I hate that we are tied to Zach; I hate even more that we have no contingency plan. I hate most that we had no real way of doing any better at QB this offseason. But it is what it is. Have to hope for betting QBing room next year at this point.

If the reclamation project in Trevor H. could do it, so can Collaros. Even BLM looked cooked 3 years ago.

ZC with a new OC....good oline again and some legit targets is gonna do one of 2 things...Either have a late in career renaissance like Calvillo had and actually be a legit #1 and possibly another 2..3 really good yrs in him if the situation allows for it....Or he is gonna confirm the last 2 yrs of this spiral into crapsville is real and he is done. And we should do whatever we have to in the season if this is the case to address it and not wait for the off-season and really be hooped...if it means trading assets...Picks...or a legitimate performer so be it, but get it accomplished If he shows a rebirth and his physical skills look like they are not degraded from previous season, then he could be a resigning on a 1 yr deal for 2027 at a reasonable price as we are hopefully grooming the 2028 guy....Not at the 600k price tag he has been getting...not even 500k...but more in the scope of what BLM has taken and if he doesnt like that deal....See ya later

Throwing into triple coverage while having protection is not the fault of the o-line or the OC. The QB play was extremely subpar for a top paid player.

  14. He made the team! :D
  15. Idk how they run their camps down the UFL, but a 4th arm for camp would make a lot of sense. It is a shorter, earlier season so I can see not needing 5, but just 3 would be pretty surprising to me. Still, to your point, Elgersma has to be expected to be the 4th man on the chart. 99% of the time, especially in this day and age of the cfl. Yep. Even pro polish. If im looking at a guy who had a so so camp and some good pre season action, vs a guy who sat on a PR for 2 full years im gonna lean towards the guy with 2 years too. Right decision, love that guy, hope he has a brilliant post playing life and maybe coaching career. Or just volume. Especially if you need to push Wrs/Dbs. You need arms to do that.

JJ wasn't in our plans obviously. I don't think his stay here went as envisioned by either side.
  17. You really like to argue. Sure, some situations are better for the backup QB, but most situations require QB1 getting hurt for QB2 to get any significant reps. If you don’t agree, that’s fine.
  18. 2 points
Nobody is excusing ZCs brain cramps, but at the same time as a QB you get paid to throw the ball. When you have no help whatsoever the QB can either take the sack or start winging it downfield on a hope and a prayer. ZC chose the latter and it is never the right choice. However, it is a decision born out of lack of talent around him. If he sees an appropriate amount of protection, and much improved receiver play we likely don't see these poor decisions. If we still do then there is a problem. Trying to play a pop warner level offensive scheme can make a lot of QB decisions look real bad. Defences around the league were saying they knew the play just from the formation, when the defence knows the play before the ball is snapped your QB is going to throw a ton of interceptions. On running downs it doesn't matter as much because that is all about execution but in the passing game it's going to be a disaster no matter the execution. When we criticize ZC throwing into triple coverage one has to ask how the defence is able to get 3 guys on the receiver. We see the point and time the ball arrives at the receiver and it looks like triple coverage when in fact the defence is holding their coverage but are ready to what they have pre-snap recognized as the first and 2nd reads for the QB. When a defence knows where the ball is going everything looks like the QB is throwing into coverage but that is not necessarily what he's seeing at the time he delivers.
  19. 2 points
At any rate if they are signing QBs it's because they are not happy with their depth so even if Elgersma survives the cut, he is likely pushed down the depth chart. This is something I find interesting because both Hiers and Smith (Elgersma's QB competition) are true ham and eggers that are below CFL quality. Hiers got a quick looksie at the end of 2024 by the RIders but never made it to 2025 camp and Smith has not played ball of any significance since a pretty underwhelming college career. If Elgersma has trouble beating these guys out, it should really temper our expectations for him as a CFL future starter.

It's not just us though. If MOS thought Hogan was doing even a halfway decent job, he'd still be our OC. The fact that he was demoted, speaks volumes.
  22. 2 points
So you're defending Hogan who was not qualified, failed miserably and was arrogant to boot?
  23. 2 points
not to mention he was working with an OC with less than zero clue's as to what to do....and a self admitted HC who couldnt step in and offer some kind of help/system tweek as he also has no clue...ZC gets a somewhat a pass for last year...but if by game 6...he is being the ZC of the past 2 yrs....we need to do whatever we can to do an in-season transition
  24. 2 points
Yep. The random chuckitius he comes down with is pretty bad. Doesn't seem to matter how many DBs are in the area; if he has it in his mind to chuck on that snap, it's going deep. OFC we want to win the cup every year. But the realistic hope for me is that we have a pre-Zach 2019 type team building again. Where the D/teams went out expecting to have to win the game every week. And won many, many games. Rebuild the team into one where every unit feels like the QB of the team with the need to propel us to a win. That way if we find a qb worth growing with, or get another older guy we have the supporting pieces to dominate again.
  25. 2 points
I am hoping Zach rebounds and we win the cup in 2026 because
  26. Bombers have created a spring Bantam 12 on 12 league this year. Would be nice if we moved community football to the spring like every other province so we can actually run high school and up with proper resourcing in the fall. In Winnipeg region we legitimately only have 6 officiating crews for minor football right through CJFL. They also are the stick/sideline crews for U Sports.
  27. 2 points
Then, instead of Collaros getting pulped because of a crappy OC and O-line, we would have had Brown getting pulped, but at a cheaper price. Not sure that would have accomplished much.

This is season 50 so they made it a big all-star season of returning players - gives you an idea of how well she did if she was asked to be a part of it. She's had a few players from her first season and this season up to Winnipeg - lots of Instagram pictures of them at Jets games.

In Zac's defence he WAS asked to do a lot with zero OL or receiver support. So yes, it does matter what team you played for and if you are suggesting that he had better players around him last year than Dru Brown did you are the one making up things to match your story.
  50. Not really. Some cases you get behind an aging out vet, or a weak starter and may have a legit shot at seeing the field. Elgersma is behind a very good QB that he has no legit shot at a QB controversy
