  1. 3dn has an article about Hansen helping ethnic minorities who were being discriminated against escape Ukraine. What a great person but it details why he is on the verge of retiring. The Bombers had a 2 year deal with him and the league vetoed it because it was above the salary limit for globals. They are capped at 11k less than rookies. If they sign him to that deal he has to renounce his global status. What a joke.

So Shell, since you got oil at 23% off the going rate, I look forward to you dropping gas prices down to $1.26 at the pump at all your stations any day now. You’ll be able to corner the market with that discount. Yeah, I won’t hold my breath.

  6. Yeah this is nuts because we are a couple years away from a flood of global players coming from NCAA that are going be really talented and have abilities to start in CFL. If you are really looking to expand the game globally these players need to feel like they can have career in Canada where they are fairly compensated as a global player.

You gotta feel sorry for the Shell bigwigs at a time like this. They are kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. One the one hand, if they buy Russian oil they are supporting the Russian regimes and the war crimes that are happening right now. But on the other hand, I'm sure the energy crunch is affecting the price they pay on fuel for their private jets. Tough situation for the decision makers in the organization...

Let me explain a bit more about what Treasury Board approval means. Each year, the Province hands out thousands of grants, across various departments and programs. Some, are done to a specific organization, for a specific value. For example, the United Way gets an operating grant each year. The amount is determined through an agreement between the Prov and the UW. On the grants listing, approved by Treasury Board and is approved when the budget is passed. The authority to pay the grant is delegated to the department to make the payment. The amount and timing is delegated. Then, there are granting programs, that are application based. If it's an ongoing program, usually there are application criteria and an evaluation process. A list of recipients is determined and it's typically signed off by the Minister (or delegated down to the office level). These would be smaller grants, under $25k but sometimes more. Treasury Board would delegate the authority to a maximum amount for an individual recipient and the total amount to be distributed by the entire program. If you want to make changes to either of those types of programs, you need to go back to Treasury Board and get their approval. This is a formal process. The last type that would be comparable, would have been this program that Khan would have applied for. An emergency program, done in haste to try to react to a new or developing situation. A department would have had to submit a TB submission to get the funds and the delegation of authority approved. Likely, TB would have authorized the funds and provided some delegation. Say, any grants under $10k, the department can approve but for anything else, you need to come back. Most likely, the entire list needed TB approval before award letters/commitments and payments were made. Reason being, this was a politically sensitive file and program. So, I don't think that there is anyway that Khan was provided a $500k grant without the Secretary to Treasury Board and the Minister of Finance seeing and approving the list. The Secretary to Treasury Board's job is to be politically astute and help guide the gov't. I use Treasury Board and Treasury Board Secretariat interchangeably in the above. Treasury Board itself is a sub-committee of cabinet and made up of gov't MLAs and usually Ministers. Treasury Board Secretariat is civil service office that provides advice to gov't, as well as strategic planning. A few other roles but not really applicable in this case.

  10. I dunno...if I'm the Bombers, and you know you have Les Maruo (at the very least) who can be your designated International, and you've said you're willing to pay Hansen like an American, then to hell with it and just have him lose his designation. I mean, if you don't absolutely NEED him as your designated guy, then why worry about it? And hopefully you can draft another quality one this year that would be the emergency back up if Maruo can't go...

  11. They want to grow the game but god forbid they actually get some good talent out of it and want to pay them properly.. Seems counter productive. That’s definitely something that should be discussed at the next CBA.

Catherine the great ...... woke dupe! Exposed: Bill Gates time travels! "A 1787 letter that finds Catherine the Great strategizing about how to get the Russian public inoculated against smallpox is going up for auction next month, reports Ola Cichowlas for Agence France-Press (AFP). “[O]ne of the most important [tasks] should be the introduction of inoculation against smallpox, which, as we know, causes great harm, especially among ordinary people,” the Russian empress wrote to Count Pyotr Aleksandrovich Rumyantsev. “Such inoculation should be common everywhere.” The missive includes ideas about how to accomplish this goal, including setting up lodging in abandoned monasteries and convents for people who traveled from afar to get inoculated." smithsonian

To borrow an old joke from Dennis Miller from 25 years ago when he was still funny and relevant “The last time I saw a battle plan that simple was when I played Stratego with Judy Landers”. And it would be nice to think he is trying to troll the left, but his history of dumb statements (inject bleach, stare at an eclipse, UV light up the butt, nuke hurricanes) and doubling down when challenged suggests he is completely serious that this is a sound idea.

But it still depends on how the vote shakes out. I have no feeling anymore about the % of hard right people in the party but if it's around % 50 you can get a spit of that vote and have a moderate sneak in. ( ala Joe Clark ) The question then becomes an a moderate control the party. If the hard right numbers are over % 50 then you are absolutly right. A final vote would likely be a combined right wing vote. Again I can't see a Kenny or Poulievre winning a General election although you never know. I also think having a hard right opposition leader is really divisive for this country.

  43. Bud Korchak. Winnipeg born, played with St. John’s and Elmwood before joining the Bombers as a flying wing, 3 time all-star. Wanted to go with Bob McNamara, but the only picture I could find of him in a 96 jersey would not load. But he deserves a mention if for nothing else than for holding one of the more unbreakable records in football with a 6 touchdown game against BC. Alex Hall also a consideration, now best known for the trade which started our o-line re-build with Pat Neufeld.

@JCon paying any attention to the story about the funding Obby received from the PC's as part of the Buy Local initiative? His company, GoodLocal, received $500,000 - more than all the other companies that received assistance combined. Of course this was well before Obby even considered politics 🙄 The race for Fort Whyte is getting more interesting.

  49. Probably the worst program in the NCAA at the time. I could tell you stories but it would sound like sour grapes if I said anything more. I will say one thing positive. Tyler's QB Coach was Joe Paopao. In March 2015, he blew out his hamstring training in the off season before his senior year. He should have had surgery but was misdiagnosed. He was sidelined during Spring Practice in April. He was limited as to what he could do at the main camp in August. One of the things Tyler liked to do was be a mobile qb. Scrambling & throwing on the run. He couldn't do any of that & it wasn't until early October where he could actually go into a game & at least move around a little bit. For 2 years, Tyler battled for the starting position with another qb. The other qb was a transfer fron North Dakota State while my son played 2 years of JUCO in California. They botgh were recuited the same year. He was looking forward to competing for the #1 qb position until he was hurt. That hamstring injury meant he had no chance to really play & he only appeared in 3 games as relief. The losing & his injury was a frustrating experience as it wiped out his senior year. He told me that Joe was a great sounding board & they spent hours during & after the season talking football & being a sponge listening to him & his advice. He said it made the season way more pallatable. Joe should have been the HC & Bates an assistant but that was typical of the problems at SFU at that that time. They had coaches put into the wrong positions, It made no sense.
