    Regular Season Bomber News

For those that were questioning our drafting, the amount of play we’ve gotten out of 2019 draft picks has been incredible. Drew Desjarlais came in for much of the last game after Speller’s injury, Hallet forced and recovered a fumble, Kongbo has come as advertised and Exhumé heads the league in special teams tackles. Had Oliveira not been injured I imagine we’d have seen a thing or two from him as well st this point. Looking good!

  2. If you eliminate the grabbing, pulling and the two handed push from behind, that was a perfectly executed block. I can see how the refs might miss those little subtleties.

  3. The problem is we rely too much on Harris at the expense of other talented players. I remember back in the 80's when Willard Reaves was running for anywhere from 1500 to 1800 yards a season we still had our passing game with Joe Pop, Murphy, Boyd & Tuttle having thousand yard seasons & we never missed a beat. We could score from anywhere on the field. But this offense? I don't get why it's either or with LaPo. We centre around the run game & it takes away from the passing game. We should be able to do both but we don't.

Send them to Guelph. Did wonders for the Bombers.

  5. Hamilton is very lucky there wasn’t lightning in the area as they needed the 4th quarter to score 16 points to win that game. This only highlights what a colossal mistake it was to end a game in the 3rd quarter in a tight football game, in the anything-can-happen CFL.

  7. EDIT: BC staying in Hamilton, 2 practices fly out Wednesday. BC is traveling 3 times zones west, off-day, then 2 practices and traveling 2 time zones east. Our team is waiting at home, 3 full practices and zero travel. This is a week they all better shine, coaches and players.

I remember us missing the playoffs for about 55 years in a row. Couple extra ok maybe 10 whiskey's of Gimli origin, and we grabbed a rain coat and went to the game. Now the fans are going to say maybe we should stay home, it might rain and they will cancel the game.

  9. Well, in 2013 we'd have hailed a sad sack qb like Antonio Pipkin as a saviour. The qb position was so so bad.

  11. Who was questioning the Bombers’ drafting? The distinct majority of people said the Bombers had the best draft of anyone this year.

  12. The problem isn't that you run the ball a lot to Harris, he is a great running back any team would love to have. I think the problem is he is only one you throw to and that's the issue

  13. Lack of diversity is our strength.
    3 points
  14. Harris gets hurt all it does is force other guys to step up and carry the load. Not like there's a lack of talent in that regard. Lapo loves a crutch, always has, but you take away his crutch it might force him to be more diverse in his play calling.

We lead the league in TDs with 26..and lead in offensive TDs with 23 We have 197 offensive points scored good fir 2nd to Ham 199 Ham avgs 28.4 offensive points a game..best in league..we average 28.1 So we have a point producing offense regardless of what people perceive as short comings at QB Factor in as well that 60+ point game Hamilton got as skewing their points a bit and we conceivably could be first

Do you know what’s worse than a Rod Black PBP CFL football game on a 90% CFL week 9? Two PBP CFL football games by Rod Black on a 90% CFL week 9.

  20. The Bombers were prepared to back up Harris until Oliveira went down early in the year. We were all anxious to see what this kid could do. However, it’s not like Augustine can’t be an accomplished ball carrier. He, like many others, could be used periodically, but that’s just not the team’s philosophy. When we learn to spell off players in game situations, like Streveler in the last game, then this team will be much fresher, and much stronger.

  24. I don’t know why we stopped running the two back system last year. It was effective and teams weren’t able to stop it. If you throw Streveler, Andrew Harris and another good RB on the field together they’ll run all over the league. Thats the kind of offence you need in the CFL come October/November.

  27. I mean questioning our drafting in general. There were several folks around here that were quick to point out Walters’ past busts so I felt it was worth bringing up how many success stories he’s had this year.

  28. Amazing we say that when guys like Willard Reaves, Jay Washington, Robert Mimbs & Charles Roberts carried the load 20-30 times a game. As fans with those guys we never talked about being overused & injuries. If anything, those guys played better in the second half than they did in the first. The great backs love the work.

  29. This topic is moot because Mike O'shea will not sit Nichols for Streveler, not when we are 6 and 2. If we lost 4 in a row..maybe. If we are winning Nichols starts no matter how poorly he plays. I understand O'shea thinking on this,i just wish we could get Streveler in more....

  30. IMO, this current lack of diversity in the Bomber offence will come back to haunt them when Harris gets injured, as someone who handles the ball so much inevitably will.

  32. Crazy finish. Guy Lankford lateraled too should have booted it again, damn near all of BC's players would have been onside. And Hamilton needs to be ready for that quick kick, all they need to do is recover that ball, anyone.

  33. I also think it’s pretty clear at this point that Matthews is largely just a guy. He’s a fine enough complimentary piece but expectations of him being our long awaited number one receiver were WAY too high.

  40. On the topic of the time when Nichols replaced Drew Willy, I was inspired to look back to 2016 to the period immediately after the QB change. The Bombers started 1-4 with Drew Willy and then went on a seven game winning streak when Nichols came in but that hardly tells the entire story. Can't help but wonder how different things would be today at the QB position had that seven game streak, which undoubtedly (and rightfully so) entrenched Nichols as the long term starter for this team gone a bit differently. For one, Willy's numbers were surprisingly not that bad during the 1-4 start. Yes, I remember him being shellshocked and checking down a lot but doesn't that all sound familiar? It didn't help that of those four losses, two were against Calgary and one was against Edmonton. He still only turned the ball over four times in five games and was legitimately great in the win over Hamilton and the loss to Calgary. I agree that a change needed to be made and running Willy out of town was clearly not a mistake, but I guess the point of this all is that Nichols' play right now isn't really any worse than end stage Willy. It's the circumstances surrounding the rest of the team that are vastly different. Nichols comes in that season and the Bombers immediately go on a seven game winning streak. However, the best team BY FAR they beat in that stretch was an Eskimos team that finished 10-8. The other wins were two against the one-win Riders, one against the 7-11 Als and two against the 5-13 Argos (who had Logan Kilgore and Dan Lefevour as their starting QB in those two games). Yes, none of those are automatic wins but talk about favourable circumstances! The even crazier thing is, there was a three game stretch where the Bomber defence forced a combined 16(!) turnovers. It's nearly impossible to lose when you force five turnovers in a game, regardless of what your offence does. Nichols' average stats in that seven game streak? About 260 yards passing and one touchdown per game. Granted he didn't have to do much and wasn't turning the ball over, but his numbers were actually worse than Willy's against significantly weaker competition. And yes, many people will say the numbers don't matter as long as the team is winning and they weren't wining with Willy and they were with Nichols. I just find the circumstances around the QB change and the corresponding records very interesting and can't help but figure that going into that extremely easy stretch of the 2016 season had Willy not been benched at that exact moment, the team probably has a similar record and then where would things be at today? Likely neither Willy or Nichols are the QB for this team.
