  2. “Winnipeg’s interception total over the past five years – 20 last year, 25 in 2017, 30 in 2016, 21 in 2015 and 13 in 2014. That number is the most among CFL teams.” No surprise. Another quality article by Ed Tait.

This is hopefully my last comment on this. People say this like it is something we already have and they're afraid of losing it. We don't - we can't utter threats, we can't libel people and we can't yell fire in a theatre among a whole lot of other things we can't say or do. It's really a disingenuous talking point; the goal of which is to let people with power retain their power through whatever speech necessary. If you pay attention to the loudest whiners about this, it's usually white men who are so incapable of articulating messages humanely that they need the protection of so called "free speech" that has never existed in the way they thought it did.

What a waste of 2 pages... seriously guys. So here is the problem with politics in the states right now: Republicans are gaming the system in their favour. Gerrymandering everything for their benefit, suppressing votes often in illegal ways, stacking judges favourable to their policies while obstructing any Democrat they can. They are a horribly unpopular party who is trying to manipulate the system to stay in power rather than trying to broaden their appeal. Trump isn't really the problem, it's the Republican party that allowed a tool like him to ever get power and get away with the **** he does. Hillary gets dragged in front of committee after committee to testify hoping they can catch her at something, but Trump runs wild and we can't get him to testify, no that's just political grandstanding. Shame that people are too stupid to look at things without their own biases.

More facts needed: every government runs deficits. Gary Doer’s NDP in Manitoba ran a balanced budget. Harper ran numerous deficits, even with a majority. My point: It’s better to ask why a government ran deficits, rather than making broad statements about them.

  7. She didn't even hint, at certain points, she flat out said she was capable of doing this. If you re-watch the episode where her band of stragglers finally makes it to Qarth, she gives a quote that shows her mindset and how she sees things. It makes sense when you pair the quote with her seeing the Red Keep: "Thirteen, when my dragons are grown, we will take back what was stolen from me and destroy those who have wronged me! We will lay waste to armies and burn cities to the ground! Turn us away, and we will burn you first."

  8. In one of the best off seasons for the Bombers, we have to languish under the cloud of these stewpid labor talks that should have been settled way before this year’s draft. That would have given everybody a chance to weigh in and solve some issues instead of these school yards tactics. Grown men. Sheesh. #lastminutegate

  9. When the topic of raising the salary cap came up, Walters pointed out that this would mainly benefit the higher end players. Such is the system. It is neither fair, nor unfair, it simply is. Also, to suggest that one side or the other is "for the fans" is silly. The players are for the players, management is for the organization. Both have an interest but the focus is different and neither involves "the fans". Players, generally, want as much as they can get in the least amount of time as possible. After all, they have a very limited time frame, career wise, so that's understandable. Management, on the other had, wants to limit salary expenses as much as possible. They, by nature, have to take a longer view because their focus is sustainability. Now factor in that to attract the higher end talent, the people that "the fans" actually come to see, they have to pay higher end salaries. This means that the journeymen and rookies will have a smaller pool to share from, cap wise. And then add in the premium that Canadians can fetch means that there are yet fewer dollars for the American rookies. So to suggest that it's wrong to pay the qb's and other skill positions more at the expense of others is to say that the entire system is wrong. Maybe it is, but is the system that both sides are operating in, so trying to determine right or wrong is a fool's errand. Long and the short is that there are no "white knights" who care more for the fans than the other side does. Anyone who believes that has likely bought a lot of bridges over many many years.

Mark answered the first point quite properly - no sand required. You just have to look at the historic deficits that Republicans and Conservatives have piled up to know that deficit financing isn't necessarily what "the left" automatically does. To say otherwise is dishonest. As for honesty in politics, I am paraphrasing what Orwell said. I truly do think that there are honest politicians who are in public service for all the right reasons and to think otherwise is too cynical a viewpoint for me to stay interested in politics. The cause/result you suggest is too puzzling for me to ponder or reply to because it's kind of insane. Question about free speech: Do you support the right of someone to walk up to a person of colour and call them the n-word?

"It should be noted that there is now no intelligentsia that is not in some sense “Left”. Perhaps the last right-wing intellectual was TE Lawrence." George Orwell. TE Lawrence died in 1935, so it kind of makes sense that the right would need a socialist's writings to appropriate as they can't find any intelligent life in their own circles. Can't wait to hear the Chomsky stuff now.

I think Orwell would be extremely disappointed with both sides of the ledger in the US right now. Just as I think Tommy Douglas would weep if he saw what happened to his dream of affordable Canadian health care. And sorry, but if you think your "boi" would be cool with far lefties wanting to see the First Amendment abolished, then you haven't thoroughly studied Animal Farm.

What I find "Orwellian" is the right's increasing use of the word "Orwellian". George Orwell Eric Arthur Blair, better known by his pen name George Orwell, was an English novelist, essayist, journalist and critic whose work is marked by lucid prose, awareness of social injustice, opposition to totalitarianism and outspoken support of democratic socialism.

For the people posting here that don't think Trump is a bigot.... read this. Let's hear your explanation for the things he's said and done. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2019/06/trump-racism-comments/588067/ pretty sure the Trump supporters won't read it. and, bonus laugh, Trump while testifying before Congress: "Tadd Johnson: Trump was wearing pancake makeup, which I hadn’t seen before, at least not on somebody testifying in Congress." What a freak this guy is. He's Michael Jackson level wierd.

    2019 NHL Playoffs

Yeah, take those rankings for what they are worth. THN called it a ranking of where your team is "right now". Jets out in round 1. Moose missed the playoffs. At best, they should have maybe stopped there, but they then went to the prospect stable and looked at how far those players' teams are in the playoffs in their respective leagues to come up with a ranking. So a skilled prospect on a weak team, you are dinged - like Vesalainen out early. Granted our prospect pool is not as deep as it used to be, but there is no way our organization is 30th in terms of skill and/or potential. The bottom three teams are Pittsburgh, Winnipeg and Columbus. Meanwhile in the top 10 are the Ducks and the Kings.

  49. What you're talking about here is how the cap is distributed on two specific teams. We are not talking about teams going over the cap to sign these qbs. Not sure how this is relevant to do debate of what the salary cap should be set at. There isn't a huge amount of unspent money available right now. I would like to see the option of having guaranteed contracts for players who have a number of years of experience in the league and are playing for the team that brought them into the league. Something that would encourage players to stay with the team that brought them into the league and also force GM's to honor more contracts. It would really cut down on the lack of continuity and teams blowing up their rosters each offseason.
