A great example of a glue guy, imo, is Sheed. He wasn't a top 3 WR, and he didn't need to be. He was the last imp wr on the roster, but after some early career struggles, was as reliable as can be, blocked his ass off, ran the sweep, and did all the little things extremely well. He was also a tremendous character guy, a leader, and a culture setter. Early on when he was fighting his hands he was on the verge of getting cut. And when we got to a point where we needed to save money and develop more young wrs he was gone. Imo, he was gone a bit too soon. But he brought a lot while he was here. You don't need that guy, but you sure are glad to have him when hes here.6 points

3 keys - Bombs away, we need hamilton zach or old mop zach to show up. We need the win, but we also need a statement and a momentum building after last weeks bed crapping. WR step up, we've cycled through a bunch of guys and now with demski out, we need guys to step up more than ever. I expect a big game from wilson, but some one else needs to take the next step or two as well. Turnover battle, we have to win it. We've been crushed by the rate of our own failures this year, and we need to get past that immediately.5 points -

I coached youth football for years, so I am definitely not an expert, or close, on anything related to football. But, the best teams I coached had the most talented players. Full stop. It was a bonus if those players also were "character, good in the room" guys, but often were not. And often the "character" players were great as back ups or positive energy bench guys. I posted before, a pro team can't be full of only narcissistic a-holes. But it needs elite talent, and if some of them are, that's why you're a pro coach! To manage egos, conflict, talent. This Bombers team is really lacking in elite talent. How many will make the all CFL team, or even West division all star team? The blame is shared between Walters, who has fallen asleep at the wheel, and Osh who seems to think character trumps talent. This is the least fun Bombers team to watch I've seen in 20 years.5 points -
Weather likely to be a factor with wind and rain present for most of the day, then tapering off closer to kick off. Bombers need a win badly.... A Bombers win combined with an LOLks loss locks the Bombers in to at least the crossover and eliminates Edmonton.4 points

There was this coach who clearly valued talent. I mean the man once said that guys could play for him until he found somebody better. Who was that again? Oh yeah, 5 time Cup winner as a head coach, Don Matthews.4 points -
all players should be putting in hard work and effort....or be gone To say that a guy like JT....Kolo....The Marine when here amoung others put in so much work and effort in that far exceeded what the players with more talent and upside did, hence relegating them to the bench or PR is just a stupid opinion and totally out to lunch Coach here play's fav's...over talent and upside...deal with it sycophants....there is zero defense of it otherwise Guys who "profess" to play the game also have a hot clue and know what goes on in and out of room...said amongst fractions of players....also said to "former" players whom they trust...maybe some former players as well get access to room...facilities and off-season and in season training/maintenance and have a hot clue moreso than a fan who professes to know everything and has a hard time accepting differing opinion or seeing both sides of a coin...looking at you mr know it all...you know who you are Nobody here even said anything about me first guys either....but a roster chalk full of a coaches' wet dream player who has "intabgibles" over talent is not a recipe for success either....as we have seen And as a poster here mentioned...the wau things been done here of late and the lack of a true opportunity does have a big impact on guys not seeing this as choice 1A....IF people here think that we put in no effort to bring in some big FA names they are kidding themselves....We sat on our hands on a few instances thinking we were good, but also struck out on others....The Cats found a way to pay both Lawler and Dobson...they made it work....no reason we couldnt have...and if it meant parting ways with a Kolo....Thomas..Kramdi...Wilson...so be it.... We choose to go cheap...stand pat with outdated players...and are reaping the rewards of that now....so to speak...and this has happened a few yrs running now.. stellar for his 130k...of not more not the sole reason...no....but poster boi for what we do here....But pull him off roster....replace his snaps with a capable guy, and his spot with a new yunger guy with upside...or a younger already established guy hitting his stride...we are a better team Now do that in 2..3..4 other spots...we are once again a great team4 points

Glue guys are supposed to be at least a C+ to B level of player. Rasheed Bailey was a glue guy who could elevate and make big plays and would consistently be a reliable player. You need guys like that to fill out the roster. Jake Thomas is a Damian Jackson guy who is nice but at most is a D+ level player who makes one play every month.3 points -
If you think selfish, me first players in football generally had short careers, you’ve soundly fallen out of touch. Their careers aren’t shorter than any one else’s, and their numbers in modern pro football is extremely high. Dickie never put any kind of stamp on those riders teams. that was all chris jones through and through. they didn’t flush the jones way of doing things till this regime now. That regime didn’t value talent over character, they recruited only for talent and at times seemed to prize the toxic head case types. It’s not a question of one guy more or less talented. Talent is a small glimpse production. Hubert last year wasn’t a tremendous talent, he was and is a very good role guy despite his talent level because he was smart, tough, and had good hands. The problem is we start guys no one else would. It’s not a potential talent thing, or athleticism thing, or a fit/production thing. It’s literally all of those with guys like kola and jake. They are so far below the average replacement level it’s terrifying. Look at a guy like christopher fortin. True rookie canadian starting, was the last pick of the first round. He is soo much better than kola it’s not even funny, but what’s worse, is he would probably be our 2nd best ol this year. Half our games he might be our best ol. Veresuk is also starting as a true rookie canadian, he was the second pick, but he’s out played veteran imports on our team. We plugged in guys like allen, and woodbey making our D better, months after continually trying to force fit bad players. We’ve done this every year for a long time. We kept hammering collin kornelson not just onto the AR but into high volume rotation over a bunch of better players while handily over our ratio requirements. These are heavy handed, undisputed downgrades we forced our self to endure because we didn’t want to play the best players. That’s not even scratching into repeatedly hammering guys like biggie and schoen into the line up when they were badly compromised in terms of health and un able to perform. It’s not arm chair qbing, it’s not conspiracy theorists or wild accusations. It’s now becoming so prevalent that even the complacent media are firing shots at our coaching. Roster management issues have always been the reality. We backed ended into an all time squad and rode it into the dirt. Every team needs glue guys. but you have to have the pieces to glue together. other wise you’re just glue, and we are pretty close to that now. Half our cap is tied up in guys who are fringe league guys.3 points
-
It's gotta be a balance. Glue guys are great... but at some point you need guys who can make some ******* plays consistently. We used to have that, we don't so much anymore. Too much glue and not enough wow.3 points

I agree 100%! I think Walters needs to really step it up if he wants to hang around. IMHO he failed badly in 2025. He lost a lot of talent due to free agency and did not replace the lost talent with anything of significant value.2 points

I don't think legacy plays into the picture at all. I don't think Mos has thought about his legacy for a second. I suspect he thinks this is the best way to win. All you need is football IQ and character. But football has one of the biggest advantages in sport towards athleticism and raw talent. When you deprive your self of those factors, you hurt your chances to win. You need those guys to balance out a roster, but it's like building a house out of nothing but mortar. No bricks, no boards. If you look at our roster by position groups, how many positions do we have 1 player can go out and just dominantly win a snap 1on1 with the opposition? Imo, wilson with some regularity, a couple ol with no regularity at all, lawson/woods with no regularity at all, wj same, vaval and nichols. When I look at Hamilton's offence alone, I see more guys who can do that with far greater regularity. When I look at the riders, I see significantly more on each side of the ball than we have on our roster, and again with far greater regularity. People look at that and will blame Walters and the front office. But I see us sitting and cutting guys who can do that and become guys who do that with regularity for guys who can't do that and won't become that.2 points

Mitchell obviously doesn't want to be here- maybe he never did. A bad acquisition that has been allowed to fester, and if he is the best Walters could find, that is another nail in the coffins of both.2 points -
Nothing saying that they couldn't bring Jake Thomas as a coach / water boy / mascot for morale.... Jake isn't the reason why we are doing so poorly this season... but he's such an obvious guy that should have been upgraded and the fact that they have made minimal efforts is alarming. It doesn't give us the confidence that they'll replace guys in other positions where a tough decision is required.2 points
-
Definitely....and he was announced early about his return and most on here commented that was a mistake....Further fatboi is not so much a 'glue guy' but definitely an 'Osh guy'2 points

They did bring in 3 guys essentially for one spot, in white, sterns and mitchell. But they could’ve brought in some one who was less of a hail mary. White was the best of them in camp imo. Glad lawson is off for houston too. It’s wild though how thin we are at soo many positions.2 points

For sure but we still have some low hanging fruit they could trim (Hogan) and at least give the outward appearance that they are aware that some things weren't nearly good enough this year and it's not acceptable. If they bring Hogan back (which would not surprise me in the least), it's not a good indicator that they'll make other needed changes.1 point

The players want the best players on the field so long as they put the team first. If you are not doing that you will be a locker room pariah. I am going to say this as gently as I can, anyone thinking differently has not coached any level of serious ball. Pop Warner players might accept lazy and me first guys, but truly competitive ball calls for TEAM and players will not appreciate guys who do not put the team first. Maybe shitty teams and shitty coaches will out of desperation but that is truly why that happens. Players want the best players on the field despite attitude only when the losses start mounting, until then they want to protect the culture in their room. Youth are quite different from adults. They don't know any better. Teenagers want the most popular guys on the field and it doesn't matter what their attitude is. You learn differently as you mature. Exactly right. Sheed is a perfect example of a lesser talent having a much bigger impact than his stats. He left a big hole in the dressing room when he left.1 point

Yea, there were two plays in a row that Mitchell, just half arsed his routes at a light jog, Frustrated? Doesn't matter. Unprofessional, and MOS and JJ let him have it. I would be shocked if we see him again, and this probably solves the 'mystery" of why he never saw the field much this year. It wasn't some bias by MOS as previously reported.1 point

Yep...hence what we have seen this year. Not saying it's going to happen, just saying it's what needs to happen. I think we may have been a lot better off hiring Lapo over Hogan. Lapo love him or hate him, would not have continually tried to put a square peg in a round hole.1 point
