This only works if we don't live in a global economy. When you apply it to the real world, the one we live in right now, keeping wages low = more poverty and that's it. Regardless of any new corporations coming to town to create jobs, regardless of any money pumped into industry etc etc. None of that matters. Raising the wage will force some out of business, that's unfortunate, but also the way it's supposed to go in this "capitalist" society we have. If your business can not change with the times, sorry, time to move on. Now turning the economy back into an industrial one, or one where it's based on what Canada creates for Canada would be great. But again, in a global economy, that is never going to happen. Not without huge (likely tragic) events taking place. So again, it's good but there's no way in hell I'm making people wait for that to occur. also, "draconian socialist government" as a phrase doesn't make sense. I'd like you to actually look up what socialism is. I'll give you a head start, if you're reading something that says socialist governments can be draconian, you should find another source.

Every time the minimum wage or wages in general rise, there are dire predictions of economic doom. And yet, they never seem to come to pass.

You don't understand academia. Your evidence is n=1. You don't want to hear anything that disagrees with your opinion. Please link a peer-reviewed academic article that supports your opinion that low wages are good. But, you won't be able to, so you'll attack real evidence and just believe whatever you want. All data is collected from the "real world".

Except, of course, the evidence suggests that raising minimum wage has a net positive impact on the economy. I've heard the right wing talking points my entire life about lowering taxes and not being able to raise wages, yet, every time it happens, you can see a net positive impact on the economy. Pulling people out of poverty should be a goal of all levels of government. I wish gov't would raise the minimum wage significantly or just tax businesses appropriately. I wish we could get minimum wage to $15 here. I might be old(er) and grey(er) before it ever happens. Manitoba is getting less affordable and wages are not keeping up for the majority of the population. A rising tide lifts all boats.

Sorry man but it is my belief that if it is not personal experience then it can ONLY be anecdotal. Evidence is not theoretical, it is real life experience. I am shocked by how many of you disregard that. For every piece of evidence you provide I can provide an equally compelling piece of evidence by an equally credible source. The problem with that is you will call it biased when it doesn't fit your narrative. Therefore, I will stick to my personal experience gained over 30 years of being a business owner in this province and from the network of colleagues who, by the way, agree entirely with what I'm saying. Have you ever ran a business yourself? Was your experience different? These are the only things that are credible to me, not university professors pontificating over sets of values that are unrealistic and set up with parameters that quite frankly rarely exist in the real world. Anyone can spin their study to say anything they want it to say by whoever is paying for them to do the study. That's the difference between academia and the real world and why I hold very little respect of the opinions of such studies. That being said I could probably provide a thousand links from academics that will counter your point but again, it will mean little, because these studies are produced to promote the viewpoints of those that sponsor them. The problem with the studies you promote, and academia really loves to produce, is that the economists assume businesses can survive the disruption created before the stabilization and that is idiotic because most small businesses do not have this kind of war chest to fall back on.

He’s also athletic as all get up. He ran a lot his first year in college. 6’ 200 with a. 4.6 40 37” vert and almost 10’ broad jump is exceptional. Very close to strevelers pro day numbers and strevy was just 10lbs heavier and 3 inches taller. He put up 4.5 38.5 10’5. They had very similar splits in the 40 brown had a slightly better 20 yard shuttle and 3 cone. im sure strevy would do much better in the bench buts he’s pretty much an ideal physical specimen for qb. brown and prukop both give us the opportunity to run strevy package goal line and option / designed qb run stuff. Either way for goal line we are golden.

You have the rest of Canada to compare us to, Winnipeg/MB must be absolutely killing it compared to the rest of the nation. Again, you're speaking as if Winnipeg isn't influenced by the globe. And we are. Until that changes, wages have to increase. If your business can not keep up, that is super shitty. If you'd like to change it, we need to start kicking global competitors out of our economy. That is quite literally the only solution, well I suppose you could also convince the rest of the world to pay liveable wages....but after that...anything else is just a band aid. oh i should also add, in a capitalist society (because BOOO Socialism) businesses fail all the time and are replaced by better ones. So if we're going to play make believe in the way we think our economy works. If you're business fails, it's your fault and you should start another with a better business plan.

The concept was the assumption that the very wealthy would be magnanimous and shower the poorer. The reality is that damned few wealthy choose to do that. The wealthy buy bigger yachts, more spacious homes, more expensive vehicles and use the money to build gated communities or even buy whole islands and always have. Democratic governments are supposed to create and sustain dynamic balances between all the competing social forces and strata. Another nice theory.
