I think it's really hard for most people in Canada and many other countries to understand just how big , powerful, extreme and frankly delusional that segment of the US population is. We saw that a bit in the pandemic. I view them as no different than the radical segment of Muslims dreaming of their virgins as they strap on a bomb.. Nutters all.

Putin bet the farm on the rest of the world not caring and Ukraine just rolling over. Now that those things haven't happened I wonder just how crazy he actually is... will he slink away with his tail tucked or double down on a mistake...

You actually need to sell the oil to realize any gains. So, as long as there are sanctions in place and Russian oil cannot be bought/sold, then the worry about Putin getting richer is a nonstarter. You have to ask yourself, why do the alt-right always want to appease Putin and let him do what he wants? Hmmm....

These elements have always been part of Conservative politics. The difference now is they are the loudest voices whereas Conservative leaders used to spend a lot of effort on keeping these kinds of people in line.

What chance did Britain have against Germany after the fall of Europe ? What chance did Vietnam have against the might of the USA ? What chance did the Afghans have against Russia ? What chance did the Taliban have against the combined force they faced. It has happened many , many times. It takes good leadership and a good battle plan. The Ukraine is already winning the non battlefield war. In today's small world that is extremely important. If the Ukraine surrenders it will be the end of the Ukraine for the foreseeable future.

It has been speculated by many international political observers that Trump has been owned by the Russians for some 20 years due to all the money he has borrowed from their banks. There is no way that Ukraine will surrender- the Russians have apparently planned to decapitate the Ukrainian government by capturing or killing every one of them. The Russian army is being shown up as having outdated, poorly maintained equipment, and many of the Russian soldiers are very poorly trained and completely unaware of their mission goals. Putin fits all the criteria for a psychopath, and is at best a sociopath. He will serve himself above all other ends. I would not put it above him to institute a "scorched Earth policy" if forced to retreat out of Ukraine.

Your opinion that Ukraine should just surrender. It's patently absurd and entirely ignorant not only of what's taking place but also what's at stake.

Say what you want about Harper (and trust me...I will....) but he kept the truly crazy among them at bay. There was a significant faction that were anti-abortion and wanted to re-open that debate, and he kept the door shut on that. He knew that in order to be electable, they needed to quiet the crazies. They seem to have forgotten that, with him gone.

Surrender would mean the end of Ukraine for decades and a strengthening of Putin's power in Europe and Asia. Putin wants nothing less than a complete dissolution of Ukrainian self-government and the killing or imprisonment of all opposition there. This is essentially a replay of the Spanish "civil war" where a massively equipped, Nazi-backed force took on democratic inferior forces supported by the international community. The lack of strong response by democratic nations fueled Nazi confidence and led directly to World War 2.

  18. DL is pretty solid this year as far as depth goes but this might be a year we look to go outside the box and look at somebody like Enock Makonzo or a similar DB we may be high on. Could look at it as an opportunity to start a Canadian in the secondary, we’ve got quite a bit of depth with the Halletts and Patrice Rene if he comes up

No political party gives a crap about people who don't vote. If you want change, use your vote. Not voting is a an abdication of your right to uphold democracy. You don't have to like the government in power, but you can't not like the idea of "government" - especially in a country as free as Canada.

and yeah, the Ukranians are in very tough, on paper this is a blowout, but they're not fighting on paper. This is any given sunday territory, if the attackers don't execute well, they can underperform badly. I don't know if this is a realistic hope, but it's the only one we've got. Even the 2013 bombers won three games.

The American rollover of Iraqi forces was only the first battle. They moved on to Afghanistan and became mired in two wars without an exit plan, and slunk out of Afghanistan defeated. They are still taking casualties in Iraq and remain bunkered in their fortresses, paying out billions to mercenaries to fight their battles. Ukraine is far from defeated, at least at this point.

I have opined this before here, but Harper was only able to keep the crazies in check so long as he personally was popular and held power. Harper bailed when his popularity was slipping and it became obvious that neither he nor the CPC were going to win the next election. Had he not left, he would have received the same fate as all the other CPC leaders- assassination from within the party. It worked for Mulroney when he orchestrated a revolt against Joe Clark and even won a couple of elections, and that is the fantasy of the current lot of CPC.

Lying is an art form and certain people have discovered that you can become very wealthy as their are millions of rubes that will buy what you are selling. Even a dumb person like Trump has people convinced that he is a successful business man with billions of dollars and the smartest man in the world, on both counts he is wrong but yet people still shout his name and worship him

I've followed Manitoba's coverage of COVID data throughout the pandemic very closely, and compared it to AB's, and it's night and day. I know you guys have had ups and downs, but let me tell you, I absolutely LOVE Roussin, Reimer (and even Pallister) compared to our Hinshaw (CMOH), Shandro/Copping (Health Min's) and Kenney. Frankly this entire pose the UN types took mystifies me. They're communicating that they aren't willing to listen to a single word that Russia has to say. Do they not imagine that Russia will have this in mind the next time they plan unilateral action? Do they imagine that there will be no further ones? If NATO/US/EU isn't going to do jack-**** about it (they won't), and they're already being sanctioned-worse-than-any-country-ever, why wouldn't they just go on as they mean to?

Putin's mindset will not allow him to countenance any defeat. If he or his generals decide that Ukraine is not worth the price they are paying, and decide to withdraw, the probability is that he will try to cripple it on his way out. This will involve destroying as much of the infrastructure and military as possible. There have been overt attacks on civilian targets already, so Russia has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity already. The scenario is different, but resistance in both Viet Nam and Afghanistan defeated much larger forces, and Russia was driven out of Afghanistan as well. The reasons for the US and Russian defeats were: the support of the great majority of inhabitants for the resistance and foreign supply of weapons to the local fighters.
