  1. What kind of hurtful sterotype is that? Maybe his family owns a waste management company.

  2. he plays mean....exactly what makes an oline dominant...I actually shocked we got him where we did...I think some other teams scouting departments were asleep at the wheel...Even right out of college he would be the perfect replacement for Eli in the jumbo package..blasting bodies out of the way as he develops...If Dobson can come in and show he can be a legit left gaurd....an interior of Neuuf...Eli and Dobson ..would give us a nasty streak mean interior...and with Wallace coming in for Jumbo packages in Eli's old spot....would be a pile pushing juggernaut

  3. Global players impact players pick one lol all this talk about these guys like we have MBB posters scouting the German leagues for talent we know nothing about 99% of these guys and we’re talking about how we passed on impact players

  5. Whelp, results aside (the problems this team has have been and will be beaten to death), my boys had a blast at the game yesterday. The crowd was into it so they got the full whiteout experience, and my older son especially couldn't wipe the grin off his face for most of the first period just looking at the spectacle of it all. From that aspect, last night was a success.

  6. Big thanks to all our resident experts who provided great insight this evening for the rest of us dummies and to Jay for keeping everyone updated once the draft went online only. It's greatly appreciated! Can't wait for summer... Can't wait for football.

  8. I think he may be remembered more for his Never Alone Foundation that helped cancer patients, families & caregivers than his time as a Bomber player or President. Rest in Peace, Lyle Bauer. He'll be missed.

  12. The level of athleticism should be increased. Clercius is an exciting guy to me. When you watch his videos he competes really hard and is a hell of an athlete with that size. There's a lot of downfield shots in there, he's great at tracking the ball and finishing the play. Skill set is a bit of a mix of Demski and Wolitarsky. The willingness to go hard in blocking and special teams as a receiver is huge too....not often a guy who has those ball skills is that willing. Only concern there is long-term if he does turn into something he might have the pull to head home.

  13. This is exactly why I like the Manu pick... worst case scenario he never comes north and he is exactly like the players listed above... best case scenario, he shows up here in a few years and we have a very good Canadian that can play tackle...

  15. I'm glad the draft is during prime time... Ya it's **** quality compared to other leagues, but it's still our league and our draft. I'm glad they're at least trying. I mean the Jets are ****** so whatever... May as well get excited about football.

    Passing of Lyle Bauer

I don't really want to take clicks away from the Freep, but I will for this article. Bomber legend’s greatest impact was off the field Three-time Grey Cup Champ co-founded Never Alone Cancer Foundation By: Taylor Allen https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/2024/05/01/bomber-legends-greatest-impact-was-off-the-field Lyle Bauer was a hall of fame athlete, a respected football executive, and a charitable force that improved the lives of thousands. “He was a difference maker, and he lived his life that way,” said former Winnipeg Blue Bombers offensive lineman David Black, who played six seasons beside Bauer. “I’m proud of everything he did and accomplished through a lot of adversity.” MIKE DEAL / FREE PRESS files Lyle Bauer left a lasting impression on people whether it was on the gridiron or working with cancer patients. Known as one of the toughest blockers in CFL history, Bauer helped the Blue and Gold hoist the Grey Cup on three occasions (1984, 1988, and 1990). He earned that same respect in the front office as an assistant general manager (1992-94) and later president and CEO (2000-09) when he brought some much needed stability on and off the field to the Winnipeg Football Club. His biggest impact came away from the gridiron when he co-founded the Never Alone Cancer Foundation (NACF) in 2004 shortly after being diagnosed with Stage 4 throat cancer. For two decades, the organization has helped individuals affected by cancer with emotional, financial and informational support. Bauer, who lived in B.C. near Slocan Lake, died earlier this week at 65 with his family by his side. “He made use of his time here,” said Bauer’s daughter Danni, who lives in Calgary. Bauer and his wife Heidi also have two sons, Wesley and Brodie. “He’s done so much. The stuff he did with the Bombers was amazing, but I think just connecting with people and how he was such a positive force (is what I’m most proud of).” Free Press Files Bauer had a 10-year career with the Bombers from 1982-1991. Born in Saskatoon, Bauer played at Weber State University in Utah before enjoying a 10-year career with the Bombers (1982-1991). In addition to being a team captain, he was named Winnipeg’s most outstanding offensive lineman in 1988 and a division all-star in 1990. Bauer was inducted into the Blue Bombers Hall of Fame in 1998. Chris Walby was Bauer’s roommate and has no shortage of stories to share. “We just traded for (defensive lineman) Leon Hatziioannou, a good guy, too, and it was the day before the game and we were just doing a walk-through. We don’t go 100 miles an hour, but Hatzi kept going 100 miles an hour and he was going against Lyle and Lyle said ‘You better slow down, brother.’ But Hatzi kept coming, so, he chopped Hatzi at the knees,” said Walby. “He was not one to be taken lightly. A really good football player technique wise, but he had that mean streak which was great about him. He’d get in the huddle and he wouldn’t say much, but he’d give you the eyes. You didn’t mess with Lyle. He was fiery and took no prisoners.” Marc Gallant/ Free Press Files Bauer rides in on a motorcycle during the halftime presentation of his induction into the Blue Bombers Hall of Fame in 1998. “I loved Lyle, he just made my laugh. I’m gonna miss the **** out of him and that’s all I can say.” Bauer had an uphill climb in front of him when he became president and CEO as the Bombers were in debt. He managed to get them into the black and appear in two Grey Cups (2001 and 2007). He held the same role with the Calgary Stampeders from 2010 to 2013. “When he got the job, I was a free agent at the time and it was the last time I ever was a free agent. We’re talking on the phone and I tell him, ‘This is what I want and this is what I expect to get,’” said hall of fame receiver Milt Stegall. “And the first words he ever said to me was, ‘I don’t think you’re worth that.’ And I was like what the heck? Who is this guy? What does he think he’s doing? But after that, everything worked out and our relationship was spectacular. Our relationship went way beyond him being the president of the team and me being a player.” Stegall added: “People were held accountable. People knew there was a new sheriff in town and you had to be on your job. It wasn’t about just being good, you had to be great, you had to be at your best if you want to remain in the organization… He brought in a different mentality. It was unfortunate we weren’t able to get that Grey Cup when he was there but he did some great things on and especially off the field.” Free Press Files Bauer, No. 59, was named Winnipeg’s most outstanding offensive lineman in 1988 and a division all-star in 1990. When Bauer got sick, he didn’t give up. He kept working, kept fighting, and was determined to help others who were going through a similar battle even when the disease was taking his voice away from him. The foundation started by helping around 50 or 60 people a year, but that number has grown to 500-plus. NACF executive director Michael Schiefer said Bauer never imagined his vision would turn into what it has. Before the pandemic, Bauer would host an annual fishing getaway with cancer patients to help them get their mind off of things. He was also always quick to reach out and offer a lending hand to anyone who contacted the NACF “At one of our luncheons, I’ll never forget this one time where he was making his rounds around the tables and he met a man, who now volunteers for us, with a very similar diagnosis. In mere seconds, Lyle could show compassion and this hulking figure would wrap his arms around you which he did to this man and he said ‘(You’re my) brother, anything you need, I’m here,’” Schiefer said. “For that brotherhood to be extended to just somebody in attendance is something I’ll never forget. It was a really powerful moment to witness.”

  20. 15 DL on the roster, plus 2 picks plus 1 returning from college. 7 of the 15 are DTs, plus 1 pick and 1 returning. Could see another couple ends come in still. 11 ol plus I would expect the 2 late picks to be in camp. Could see us adding more OL before full camp. 9 lbers plus 2 drafted and 1 returning from college. Thats a LOT of lbers, but we can always use more and always carry lots. 26 dbs on the roster plus the 3 signed today. 0.0 thats a lot lol. I could see a handful getting cut in rookie camp and a bunch more brought in for full camp. 4 rbs plus 1 drafted and 1 returning. I could see another imp or two coming in, though probably more KR types. RB and QB would be nearly impossible to crack to roster on here. 22 wrs plus 2 drafted. We never stop adding wrs or dbs. Could see a few more wrs to limit lopsidedness in rookie camp, and again KR types. 4 qbs plus the 1 from the college program, probably won't see an arm brought in unless some one is hurt or cut early. 2 kickers and 2 punters. Probably done on that front too.

  32. Last years draft was not a good one. In terms of receiver/running back we want to start 3 Canadians there and we have 3 starting level players. We need depth there today as well as thinking into next year and beyond. Exact same issue with OL.

  33. Very interested to see Bombers pick. I think aside from Dumoulin-Duguay there's not a lot to pick between the OL who will be available through about Round 3. Nkanu is probably most pro ready but no upside at all. But there's a lot of guys who could be significant players on D and at receiver available. Say with that 3Down mock exercise....if Brubacher is on the board for us in the first round I don't see them passing him over for a guy who probably isn't good enough to dress this year at OL. Could grab a similar level of OL prospect at end of Round 2.

  34. How much do you think the salary cap goes up by every year? 2015 - $5.05 M 2016 - $5.1 M 2017 - $5.15 M 2018 - $5.2 M 2019 - $5.25 M 2020 - $5.3 M (cancelled season) 2021 - $5.35 M (shortened season) 2022 - $5.35 M 2023 - $5.45 M 2024 - $5.525 M With the cap only going up by $50K to $75K, asking them to use $250,000 would be asking some players to take a pay cut to make it work, and the PA would never advocate for that.

  36. That’s a damn good way to put it. In general while I enjoy drafts a bunch of sports I follow, the lay out and time seems like a dinosaur. I feel like a really good podcast style setting with portions that involve each team and their picks in a fast paced format would reach todays target demo for sports a lot better. If we take 2 guys on the front 6 in our first 3-4 picks along with 1 ol I think we will be in great shape.
