  2. Got this book for my birthday back in 1979 or 1980. I couldn't put it down, was one of my most prized possessions in my childhood years.

  3. I guess … except if we get an injury at pretty much any position other than the defensive secondary. Augustine is not a full time running back (although we’d go American there), Jeremy Murphy is nowhere near as proven as BOLO nor does he bring the same toolset, our DL depth is nowhere near as good as some of these other teams, our OL depth has been thinner than it’s ever been. We’ve got 7-8 starting calibre players and a bunch of kick chasers. That’s about it and that’s not good enough for a team with championship aspirations. The draft will be huge for us.

  4. I've decided to watch old Bomber games wherever I can find them, as the off season continues to wear on me and I long for football. Here's my first contribution: EDIT: I am pretty sure I was at this game, as a young man, as my dad was a season ticketholder in 1980 and I was able to go to most of the games with him. The 1980 Bombers will forever be one of my favorite teams of all time.

  6. Kelly already was a demon on teams...why he wasnt on roster all yr if/when healthy was again bizzare...putting Schmeckle on in lieu of him some games was just dumb...as he played no teams...had minimal if any reps on defence and did zip with them...one nice play all yr and was a guy funneled right to him

  7. below are the Projected Cdns as of this date Starters: Olivera Demski Neufeld Kolankowski Eli Wolitarski Lawton primary backups: Kramdl Hallet Augustine Dobson Thomas Ford Gautier Murphy Bennet special teams Caldwader. Benson, Kelly above account for 19 of 21 starters, 2 of which Jones and Kramdl may also become starters if needed on the bubble: Smeckle, Beeksma, Charboneau Hallet, Macdougall Of the 19 starters I would say we could use upgrades on Bennet, and Thomas, With 10 draft picks we are in decent shape

  10. There was a reason for that. When football started to transition to the "soccer style" kickers in the late 60's, they had no coaches anywhere who knew how to coach these new type of kickers. It took until the first wave of new kickers retired in the mid to late 70's & started coaching themselves that the kicking game slowly began to improve. A lot of these kickers still had to play other positions. Ted Gerela was the CFL's first soccer style kicker but was also a linebacker for the Lions when he broke into the league in 1967/68. Guys used to practice alone with no coaching. They ended up practicing their mistakes & really not improving as kickers as no one was there to help them. Considering everything they went thru, these pioneers actually did okay. Walt McKee was the Bombers first soccer style kicker in 1972 & he was a career 52% kicker. That was actually considered pretty good back then. The change was on as the kickers revolutionized the position. There are no more straight on kickers anymore. Today, kids as young as 10 years of age can sign up for kicking camps everywhere, It's no wonder that great kickers now have stats percentages in the mid to high 80's.

lol. Umm. Mittelstadt is miles better than a coked out RyJo. Why is everyone pretending it’s 5 years ago. Colorado got better. The fact Philly waived RyJo instantly should tell you he sucks

  13. All I'm focused on at this stage is making the damn playoffs (i.e the number 27 you list above).

Is it 5 years ago? avalanche trade Byram to Buffalo for Mittlestadt. That’s a huge trade.

  15. And we lost all of the key ones who did. Who is our Briggs? Or Miller? Or Exume? We’ve got a few good ones like Cadwallader and I think Jake Kelly and both Halletts offer a lot too but our ST depth is super thin too right now as far as being proven

oh hell yeah, I've been feasting on old CFL during this long stupid offseason. Just watched this one last weekend. Edmonton was the first victim of our 1984 championship run. We absolutely demolished them.

Yes! I’m glad I’m not the only one. Old Bomber games have become my new background go-to. Here’s a rare win over the Flutie Stamps in a rain-soaked defensive slugfest.

  20. Jets playing well in the o zone but giving up more odd man rushes this game against. It’s kinda seems every missed shot or Seattle save leads to 2 on 1 or 3 on 2 or breakaways.

  21. That's not entirely true, he went from being totally invisible to once in a while being seen

  23. I expect a first place finish. All teams in the play-offs have a chance after that point.

  24. We really could. Three picks in the top 20, we need to take a big swing with one of them if you ask me. Ten picks in total. We need to come away with a good mix of everything. Lots of good prospects with varying purposes at the top of the board. Would like to see them look WR (Mital), OL (Wallace) or even wonder if they’d take a look at a unique player like TE Tanner McLachlan to fill that blocking role or take a long term look at someone like DT Kail Dava (will drop, out long term with an injury) TONS of options

  25. Our top 4-5 maybe. Our top 10 falls off QUICK and it’s not even close to the best in the league.

That game was a heartbreaker. I really wanted to see Hufnagel start in a Grey Cup -- he was a good soldier backup all those years.

  29. We know Miller was very good at what he did...I have every confidence that special teams with regard to covering downfield kicks will be a big improvement....Still have to have the bodies that can get the job done though....As I see it now there has to be an improvement in talent...Kelly is a good start

  30. I wasn’t really talking about BOLO as a receiver. I was talking about his ST abilities, which were significantly different than the areas Murphy is going to be able to contribute.
    1 point
  31. The biggest difference will be the change in direction under Miller. I think that Boudreau kinda lost the handle on it last year. Also hoping that we change punters, I think our cover teams were a little out of synch with our punters different style. I agree that BOLO's worth may have been a little inflated to many of us, as backup players tend to be in every fan base, but he did show some promise with not many reps. I hope you are right about Murphy.

  32. The idea of BOLO (big, US college credentials) was much greater than the reality - 25 receptions in two seasons. I watched Jeremy Murphy a lot in RSEQ as my son plays there, and he is definitely a CFL rotational receiver. I predict he will put up better numbers, run better routes, and make tougher catches than BOLO. Not saying he'll be a star, but Murphy will be better than BOLO.

  33. Briggs was declining last year , Miller didn't play, Ford will outdo Exume, Hallet is our best and is still here, Cole will see more action and as you said Caldwallader and Kelly are improving (Caldwallader outplayed Briggs). We will also be replacing Clements who wasn't very good at st. We've also changed our st coach. I think you're being way too negative. We will also be adding in the draft a few players that are being utilized specifically for st .

That's a good price to pay. That gives me hope that the Jets can add depth without paying too much.

  35. Any chance we move up in the draft to get some key players?
    1 point
  36. I think Charbaneua or however it's spelled should fill Briggs spot....and with 10 picks if we dont trade 1 or 2 for a proven player...we should find some value for teams in the draft....but....and big but is we need to lose the teams only mindset from the last 4 drafts...draft actually players...as any player at pro level can play teams...and will scratch and claw to get on a roster doing so save for fat lineman and the useless big bodied guys who should never have been picked..Hello Schmeckle...

Dunstone has been **** all week. Not sure what's up with him/them but they're a way better team than what they've shown. Carruthers/Jacobs are over performing. It IS however lovely to see Koe shitting his pants. Need Douchue and Bottcher to follow suit...

  43. Jets’ flu vs Seattle’s back-to-back fatigue: which takes hold first? To be fair Jets have carried the play and shot chances are almost 2:1, but Seattle’s transition odd-man rushes are killing us tonight.

  45. I think Kelly could be a ST ace this season and Murphy likely gives us a few catches but I don't see a huge impact from any of the 2023 draft class if a huge impact is quality starter.

  46. Just scrap the damn rule and be done with it. It just allows GMs and teams to be lazy in their approach to scouting, drafting, and developing NATs.
    1 point
  47. Not mentioned in this discussion is that the Natl. American rule did not fulfill it's intended purpose of extending the careers of fan favourite veteran American players who were no longer able to secure starting roles, but were still marketable personnel for their team within their communities. A player like Darvin Adams comes to mind. What happened within one week of the season starting is a few teams of low character figured out how to subvert the rule intent and twist it to their advantage. Both Calgary and BC demonstrated this in week #1, having established starters such Kadeem Carey and Dominique Rhymes listed as backups to no-name players who they replaced after the first snap and played the rest of the game, thus subverting the ratio as the 23 play count applies only to the designated starter. Same thing was done on defence as teams were permitted to have a designated nationalized American on offence and defence. Game #1 the Stamps used their defensive designation on veteran defensive back Branden Dozier, who started behind rookie Michael Griffin, the Lions subbed vet. Woody Baron in for Global no-name Tibo Debaillie after one snap. The blame falls on the league for failing to close an obvious loophole on a rule that may have had good intentions and been worthwhile. As the rule change failed to achieve what is was designed to do, it should be altered to more accurately serve it's purpose, or immediately be eliminated.

  48. I agree. We could use a couple good drafts that's for sure. Ford coming back is going to give our top 10 a big boost but we could use another couple NAT studs.

  49. Our top end talent at NAT is damn good, but our depth is not what it used to be.
