  2. Our Guy @DTonOB is busy at practice today: Derek Taylor @DTonOB Early at Bombers practice no sign of DE Jackson Jeffcoat and DT Cam Lawson remains out. And the crowd noise is live! Pumping it in during practice to simulate the rowdy Riders faithful. #Bombers No Dalton Schoen for practice today. Brendan O’Leary-Orange getting some extra activity. HB Evan Holm is practicing after taking a nasty bump breaking up a pass in Friday’s game. Really impressed with what we saw live again a diverse Ticats receiver group. If you’re wondering new Bombers HB Brad Muhammed is wearing #36 and DT Miles Fox is wearing #90 UPDATE: Miles Fox appears to be an ENORMOUS human being with our view from the concourse. That’s a lot of time in the gym Adam Bighill with the diving interception…doing Bighill things. Karl Schmitz just decided to put his foot through one here at practice. Quick math says 69 yards in the air and bounced out inside the five. Athletes, man.

  6. I know it’s just a preliminary injury report, but stuff like this is exactly why I hate how we manage our roster/practice roster. Let’s just say Schoen, Oliviera and Jeffcoat can’t go (which I’m sure they can.) Who is taking their spots on the roster? Probably Miles Fox, Amare Jones and/or Greg McCrae? Or do we retry the failed Janarion on offense experiment? So positionally, we have no equivalent replacement for any of these guys.

  8. Mark F said 40000 acre farm seems not good to me. Hard for me to understand the economics of it. I guess most of it is leased would't you think? Personally I see no redeeming features or any benefits to society to have huge farms. It benefits the owners and that's about it. They can be extremely hard on local economys and local communities in general. Environmentally I find them worse if for no other reason that if they are run in an environmentaly damaging way it effects a larger area. It's very comparable to a small company vs giant corporation situation. I'm not sure if this particular farmer rents/ leases alot or not. It's pretty hard to tell. Edit: I'll add this in . When land/ farms sell around here you end up in most cases with some beautiful yards generally in the 2 to 10 acre range that can be subdivided from the farmland and sold in the $150 to$ 300,000 range. Its really awesome as it seems the acreages are often bought by young people with families which is exactly what is needed to keep small communities alive. Most small to mid range farmers jump at the chance to do this. BUT often the big aggressive farms won't do it. Basically they would rather farm the land square than have a couple of acres out of it. It's crazy but a quarter million dollars means less than having no obstacles to drive around. Lol, when I write it out it sounds like BS but it's true. Another factor would be that don't want non farmer eyes watching what they are doing

  10. agreed... I said this at the end of last season about both Jeffcoat and Wilson... love both those players... one could argue they were the two front runners for the Bombers MODP nominee in the first 4-5 games last year... Jeffcoat was arguably the best defensive player in the GC (on either side of the field)... but as is becoming far too common, injuries ruined all of that... and how long can you rely on guys that are constantly injured?

Oh definitely I work for a watershed district and we see it all the time. Enforcement is a joke there are not enough water licensing officers the complaint process really makes it so no one is going to put in a complaint in. Funny part there is so much money available for producers now to implement environmental best management practices in the province and also pay a per-acre payments to protect these areas.

  19. As a small organic farmer I'm a bit torn by this. Kudos to him for going organic but 40,000 acres ? Even by Saskatchewan size that's ridiculous. It's 2 townships . I'd love to know if he is environmentally friendly in other ways ( drainage, tile- draining, land clearing.....) . I have a neighbour right close to me who is moving into organics. He is also one of the group of farmers who remove every tree and drain every wet land and is currently tile draining ( my greatest environmental concern )every acre of his 8,000 acres farm. This article makes no mention of his general treatment of the environment just economic advantages for him.

Barry get better as it goes on and it's solid entertainment. An excellent show with excellent acting and a lot of plot twists. I look forward to season 7 as well. Righteous Gemstones has some hilarious moments at times. A must watch if you like Danny McBride. Never had a chance to watch Ted Lasso because I refuse to support Apple in any way, shape, or form. Wish there was another way. Someday I'll probably view it for sure.

  36. For 478 patients... Taxpayers paid $24M for out-of-province surgeries By: Danielle Da SilvaPosted: 6:39 PM CDT Monday, Jun. 12, 2023 Out-of-province surgeries contracted by Manitoba’s COVID-19 pandemic backlog task force have devoured about 18 per cent of its multimillion-dollar budget but account for less than one per cent of the procedures funded by the group. Diagnostic and surgical recovery task force chairman Dr. Peter MacDonald has pulled back the curtain on the cost to send patients to hospitals in northwestern Ontario, North Dakota, Ohio, and other Canadian and U.S. destinations. Approximately 18 per cent of the task force budget paid for contracts inked with surgical centres outside of Manitoba and to cover eligible travel expenses incurred by patients, he said. It had a $40-million budget in 2021-22, and a $110-million budget in 2022-23. The orthopedic surgeon was unable to provide the exact amount spent when asked by the Free Press. “We are seeing that patients have had a very high satisfaction rate — and just to reiterate that this is a short-term measure until we build in-province capacity,” MacDonald said June 7, after announcing a $1.8-million, two-year agreement with the Sleep Disorder Centre at Misericorida Health Centre in Winnipeg. “So, we don’t expect this out-of-province care to be a long-term solution to our backlogs.” The province and task force have emphasized the relatively small number of patients receiving surgery out-of-province in comparison to tens of thousands of procedures completed in Manitoba and paid for by the task force. It has paid for more than 72,300 procedures since it was struck in December 2021, including 43,600 in the public health system, the province said. Just 478 surgeries were performed on Manitobans willing to travel outside the province— or less than 0.01 per cent of all task force funded procedures — as of early June. Manitoba Health Coalition director Thomas Linner said the cost to send people away is a “staggeringly expensive and wildly inefficient use of taxpayer dollars,” at the same time, proposals by local physicians and health-care leaders languish without funding. “This needs to be a wake-up call for the government, for the task force and for Manitobans about what is being done on this issue and how much time, quite frankly, has been wasted on these efforts which should have been conducted within the public system,” Linner said. The coalition — which is chaired by Manitoba Nurses Union president Darlene Jackson and has board members from various labour groups — bills itself as a non-partisan advocacy organization. It has been highly critical of the task force’s use of private, for-profit medical organizations in its efforts to eliminate pandemic backlogs, claiming the province has prioritized private corporations over the public system. The government has argued out-of-province surgery provides an option to Manitobans in need of spine, hip, knee, foot, ankle and shoulder procedures to access care faster and improve quality of life. The need for such agreements was identified by doctors to address backlogs, the government has said. Linner called the program a distraction. “Individual success stories simply cannot make up for the loss of time, the loss of money and the loss of attention to the kind of capacity that’s necessary within Manitoba,” he said. Prior to Friday, the Progressive Conservative government had refused to say how much the out-of-province surgery program has cost taxpayers. However, in response to a request for comment from Health Minister Audrey Gordon, the government changed its stance and revealed less than $24 million had been spent on out-of-province surgeries. The tab includes more than $440,000 for patients’ travel and accommodation expenses. The task force is tracking expenses and final audited numbers will be posted as part of regular Manitoba Health financial reporting, the spokesperson said. The value of contracts with hospitals in the United States — most of which were untendered — and the average cost per procedure remain unknown. Contracts with stateside hospitals are not included on the province’s proactive disclosure portal, which reports information on contracts valued at $10,000 or more. Agreements with private surgical centres located in Manitoba are disclosed. The task force has, however, acknowledged the surgeries would be more expensive than if they’d been done in Manitoba, but assured the public the province received a good deal. “The total cost of agreements with out-of-province partners… could only be reported retrospectively as we are billed for care provided to each patient,” the spokesperson said. Doctors Manitoba past-president Dr. Candace Bradshaw said out-of-province surgeries are an acceptable option only as long as they are short term and there is significant public demand and limited capacity. “This approach is not new, and was used in the early 2000s to address a short-term need for radiation therapy,” Bradshaw said in a statement. However, doctors want the primary focus to be on building surgical and diagnostic capacity in Manitoba, she said. “We continue to look for opportunities for physicians to work with the health system and the task force to develop local solutions to unreasonably long patient wait lists.” NDP health critic Uzoma Asagwara said the approximately $24 million spent to deliver care to 478 people is an exorbitant expense. “If those dollars had been invested in improving health-care access here in Manitoba, far more Manitobans would have gotten the surgeries they need at a fraction of the cost,” the Union Station MLA said. “We’re spending more money than what is necessary and we’re not helping as many people as we should be because of the PCs’ approach.” https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/arts-and-life/life/health/2023/06/12/taxpayers-paid-24m-for-out-of-province-surgeries

Even just from his perspective and I’m sure the truth is some where between his position and the elks. They weren’t timing or any thing they just watched the launch to make sure guys didn’t creep up. Sounds to me like the elk didn’t want to see the specialists at their best and most comfortable. They wanted to stress test them. Making them do all 3 jobs makes sense not just with cfl rosters but to know what the guy has for versatility. Mid 70s is likely low 20s to maybe 25c. the only really dumb thing it sounds like they did was bring 1 jug of water. That is all the kinds of stupid. Some old really dumb coaches used to restrict water in heat. We all know how that worked out and why it’s not done any more. Could be Chris jones is one, I wouldn’t be stunned. Could be they were lazy ill prepared and indifferent. Which is no surprise either.

  43. @Fatty Liver looked this up. "Hypoxia occurs most often, however, as a consequence of human-induced factors, especially nutrient pollution (also known as eutrophication). The causes of nutrient pollution, specifically of nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients, include agricultural runoff, fossil-fuel burning, and wastewater treatment effluent. Hypoxia and Climate Change Changes in both global and regional climates have the potential to make coastal and marine ecosystems even more vulnerable to hypoxic conditions. NOAA's National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS) carries out interdisciplinary research to advance understanding of the relationship between ecosystem function and climate change. This type of research will ultimately assist decision makers and resource managers as they address the challenges of protecting ecosystems in a changing climate." https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/hazards/hypoxia/ it is tough to share the planet with homo sapiens.
