How many pipelines got built under Harper? Sure they made a bunch approvals but there was nothing built then either. The time to start building pipelines isn't now, it was 20 years ago.

Makes zero sense to go get Russian oil or Venezuelas when you have your best friend and ally in Canada with more oil than both of them sitting next door not taking it out of the ground. The Liberals have made a dog's breakfast out of our oil industry and now is the time to correct it.

The West, ALL of them, are not still buying his oil. Canada, for instance, has stopped. Biden is expected to do so in the next couple days and Germany has cancelled the Nordstream pipeline that will cost trillions to Russia in oil exports. The West's condemnation does a hell of a lot more than hurt Putin's feelings. His economy is in free fall, the rouble has crashed and so has his stock market, and China has already come out and stated that they will not be the safety net for their economy and wish to remain somewhat neutral. I am not sure where you are getting your facts from? Vladimir Putin's reign will not survive anything but absolute surrender by the Ukrainians on amicable terms that causes the West to reduce sanctions. Already powerful oligarchs are calling for his head.

  14. So I am using Ed Tait’s template of “Bombers by the numbers” and giving extra credit for those he named, and he chose Gavin Walls over Gerry James for “he wore it well”. He put James in for #28 instead, and when I look at that number I see that James stood out well above anyone else there……with one glaring exception in my mind. Plus, James was inducted into the Ring of Honour as #98, so I am going to modify my own standards and include him here along with Gavin Walls who is pictured above. Besides, no reason we can’t have more than one person per day on the countdown picture.

Zelenskky has escaped assassination three times in the past week, and it sounds as if the FSB has tipped off his security in at least 1 attempt, there are many in Russia and apparently high up that don't want this war and are trying to make it harder for Russia to succeed.

  20. As I recall it, Bell recieved the penalty for objectional conduct - taunting, and for clipping, and for being a tool without a permit. penalty was 15 yards and he had to remain an Argo. Was considered by many to be one of the harshest penalties ever handed down. Only thing worse would have been to have been immediately made a Rider, but no one really deserves that fate.

The military materiel and humanitarian supplied to Ukraine has been of great help to them. Had it not been for this help, the invasion would have rolled over Ukraine already. The resistance has been much greater than Putin anticipated- over 4,000 Russian casualties, and two Russian generals dead. Even though Putin claims things are going according to plan, as of today contradicting government reports or criticizing Putin's war is is punishable by 20 years imprisonment, all independent media has been shut down and there are reports that Russian conscription of troops is imminent. None of this ensures Ukrainian victory but analysts have estimated that if Ukrainian resistance is not crushed in the next 7-10 days, Putin will be in trouble. Third Assassination Attempt on Zelensky Fails as Putin Sparks ‘Nuclear Terror’ An aide to the Ukrainian president credits “Russian spies” for tipping them off to at least three assassination attempts. Comic-turned-hero Volodymyr Zelensky has survived at least three precision assassination attempts by elite hit squads since Russia’s week old war began, according to Ukrainian officials who say his survival was all thanks to tip-offs from Russian spies. Both the the Kremlin-funded Wagner group mercenaries and Chechen Republic leader Ramzan Akhmadovich Kadyrov’s kill teams have allegedly tried to kill the Ukrainian president, who is hiding out in various bunkers deep below the capital Kyiv, according to the Washington Post. The Wagner mercenaries—run by Yevgeny Prigozhin A.K.A. “Putin’s chef” —reportedly have a kill list of 24 names, including Zelensky, but were waylaid by the stalled military convoy outside of Kyiv that made it difficult for Russian special forces to secure an escape route, according to the Times of London.

No, it was necessary. Your comments in this thread seem like conjecture at best. You claim to not have a "dog in this hunt" but you've been commenting here all the same with your unpopular opinions. I think you've confused that word with ignorant, to be honest. Do you even know what sabre rattling means? It's defined as the display or threat of military force. Has any western country done such a thing since Putin chose to invade a sovereign nation unprovoked? Nope. Western countries have expressed their collective condemnation and supported Ukrainian resistance within the respective framework of NATO legislation. And to suggest the west has nothing is patently false. Russia's economy is in shambles and it's going to get worse as Putin continues to destroy Ukraine.

  28. Truly remarkable. Beyond that, who can say they won. Grey Cup and a Memorial Cup, who can say they played in a Grey Cup (winning) and a Stanley Cup Final (losing, of course…..it’s the Leafs) in the same season (1959 and 1959-60), and who can say they won a Grey Cup and celebrated by playing an NHL game RIGHT AFTER ON THE SAME DAY????? (NOV. 30/57, a day after he won MOst Outstanding Canadian award). No one else, that’s who.

This is likely the most realistic scenario where we would be drawn into a physical altercation with Russia, besides a NATO war. My biggest fear is that my sons will have to fight a war someday. If I could take their place, I would. If they choose to fight and the military is willing to take me, I would.

The best answer may be in Venezuela, which has been suffering from US embargoes for years. The oil production has been cut back drastically but is capable of being upscaled quickly and is light crude. The US may see this as the lesser of evils, even though they would love to continue punishing Venezuela.

Al Sharpton imo makes a great point that the US can’t be global liberators while back at home ignoring the serious threat on democracy. I would add harsh twitter words, investigating, looking into it, setting up committees blah blah blah with no real action and consequences is still ignoring at the end of the day.

being quarantined in my basement this week, I had a chance to watch a pile of streaming stuff. I've just crushed through Vice Principals, Righteous Gemstones and Barry on Crave. Fantastic stuff, the lot of 'em, if anyone is looking for recommendations. Also, if you haven't seen the Peacock/Showcase MacGruber series yet, it's a worthy successor to the movie. Have started watching the new dramatic take on Will Smith's Fresh Prince Of Bel Air and it's kind of interesting. It's basically The OC for people of colour. Really interesting twist on the original material, anyhow.

Russia produces 4% of the world's oil. We can easily overcome the shortage, provided we can get the product to the markets that need it. Not only are the Russians having trouble selling it, the ruble has been devastated.

They will attempt to leverage the situation to gain trade advantage but siding with Russia completely...not going to happen. It's simple economics really.

I think you just explained why many trans people feel isolated enough to commit suicide without knowing you've explained it. In other words, your cause and effects are ass-backwards. "Suicidal behaviour is a complex phenomenon that is a result of many individual (age, male sex assigned at birth, previous suicide attempts, mental health history, substance abuse) as well as more distant environmental factors. A recent literature review clearly demonstrates the specific risk factors for suicide in sexual minority youth, which includes negative social environments, inadequate support within the closest social network, and an absence of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) movements in communities (29). In our cohort, both trans women and trans men show a three‐ to four‐fold elevated risk of suicide compared with the population rate in the Netherlands and can therefore be considered a high‐risk group. Although the Netherlands is known for its tolerance toward sexual minority groups in comparison to most countries in the world (30), the societal position of trans people is generally less favorable compared with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and cis‐gender population. Furthermore, compared with trans men, the societal position of trans women is lower (31, 32." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7317390/
