Yeah all the vaccine's so far have proved that they are over 90% effective of keeping you out of the hospital or dying. Which is what we wanted all along to keep the hospitals from overloading.

They'll have enough doses to vaccinate everyone who wants it and is eligible by the end of June and fully vaccinated by the end of September. Exactly what they've been saying since fall. This is why I support defunding the police. First responders should be better equipped to handle some of these issues. We redirect a highly trained, professional police force to deal with non-policing issues. One of the factors, as I've been told by members of the force, is that you simply cannot speak out against fellow officers. You may be able to get away with telling someone off but the whole force will come down on you, plus the union, if you don't tow the line. It becomes like a gang. They are human. Internal stuff stays internal, unless it's captured on video.

From a CFL perspective, it's the cumulative numbers from Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC that matter, not just one of the provinces. I'm 63, in Calgary. I managed to change my first dose from May 17 to May 3 yesterday. It means I'll get AZ, which I really don't want, but at least I'll have some immunity. I have no idea when I'll be able to get my second shot. Once I get it, I'll be 74% immunized and I'll still wear a mask in public because no one knows who is vaccinated and who is just being a Covidiot.

from what I can tell, the biggest problem has been vaccine hesitancy from older people. Once GenXY became eligible this week in AB/MB/ON, there was a massive uptick in % of people getting vaccinated per day. On the first day of Gen XYZeneca vaccinations, Kenney in AB said there were more vaccination appointments booked that day than the entire week previous. So I think as more and more age groups (younger) get eligible, you're going to see the numbers fly up. I am really really really hoping Biden comes through with more doses, as was hinted at yesterday. They still haven't approved OXAZ in the US, so send us everything you've got....and if there's excess Moderna/Pfizer (the story yesterday was that they actually have too MUCH doses and not enough people wanting to get jabbed) send that too. Keep opening up the eligibility, and the % of Pop vaxxed will start rising dramatically...

Very true, and Brandon’s best first response probably could have been to ask Tracker on what basis that assertion was being made about police in Canada. Instead, he chose to dismiss it as completely untrue rather than ask for an expansion. So he now takes the role of throwing out a blanket statement, and can fairly be put to task to back it up. His over the top non-response to that request only serves to diminish his credibility and in fact unintentionally strengthen Tracker’s original position without Tracker having to justify it. If governments were in any way serious about meaningful reductions in smoking they could and would have done it already. The answer has been there and medical associations have been lobbying for years to no avail for governments to set limits on nicotine in products with a gradual reduction year to year until nicotine is eliminated from all products. There would still be segment of social smokers but the vast majority of people would simply just stop smoking or very significantly reduce their smoking without the cravings telling them to reach for their pack every 20 minutes. It's easy and very low cost to the cigarette manufacturers. I am an ex smoker that has quit and started and quit a few time already. Without the nicotine I would have zero issues with quitting even if I relapsed and had a few smokes one day. It seems insane in this day and age that we allow big tobacco to keep and even enhance the amount of the nicotine in their products

This is all anecdotal. It is not objective evidence backed by empirical data in any way, shape, or form. And I wouldn't accuse others of being lazy for not doing research when all you've done is use your personal experience and supposed social relationships to back up your claims. That's not at all how critical thinking works. Furthermore, nobody has argued training for LEOs in Canada isn't by and large more superior than our neighbours down south. Training for police and other law enforcement agencies up here is very stringent for the most part and nobody is just given a gun, a badge, and a pair of handcuffs without rigorous checks and training. However, that doesn't mean law enforcement culture in Canada doesn't have its own set of issues or that shortcomings don't exist which allow for bigotry, misogyny, etc. to affect that culture or its image negatively. There are always improvements to be made so that LEOs can better serve the communities in which they work while being more mindful, considerate, and understanding of social and culture differences between populations across this country vis a vis the laws they're asked to enforce and the people they're responsible to serve and protect. Changes to the system can also be made to weed out the bad candidates and cultivate a more open and accountable culture with all Canadians. It also shouldn't be about comparing ourselves to the US; that's a very low bar, anyway.

It's very much like the military (although that's stretching it a bit). You want to trust the person next to you. It's probably one of my main two issues I have with unions. The union always protects the person facing the complaint and it feels like they're protecting the bad ones, while not supporting the good ones. There's a lot more to it than that, I know.

Those numbers are over a week out of date. Again, I'll type slower... By the end of June, we'll have enough doses in Canada to fully vaccinate 22 Million people. And, enough vaccinations for everyone eligible for the end of September. The AZ vaccine second shot should not be given prior to 12 weeks. All vaccinations only provide partial immunity. But, given our province's unwillingness to do anything before we're in a crisis, we'll be locked down anyhow all summer.

If you read my comments, I did not state that these attitudes were held by the entire police forces- only some. I base my comments on the comments of relatives in the police forces, and experiences in the work I have been engaged in. The mindsets of officers who have been traumatized is such is that if they seek help, they are often treated as somehow inferior and damaged beyond repair. Many will leave the service. There is a powerful group ethic to cover for fellow officers who have stepped over the line.

I might be over reacting though, because we had 3400 tests yesterday, we normally have around 220... that might be a good reason why the numbers are high. Yeah. The two part shot is so you are fully vaccinated after the second shot. the J&J one is a single shot and you are fully vaxxed. as with all flu shots- you will have to get annually.

I like both of those ideas, but realistically as a struggling ex-smoker, I still feel very strongly about government stepping in on the nicotine issue. Most smokers are completely aware of the effects of their choice to smoke. Quitting would become exponentially easier if the tobacco/vaping companies were forced to gradually decrease nicotine levels in their products. Couple that with what was described above and some meaningful change might occur. I think big tobacco must be paying for some of these studies on how to reduce smoking because by far the largest impediment to decreasing smoking is nicotine addiction....anyone who smokes and has quit or has failed to quit will tell you that. Only a very small % of smokers do so because they actually enjoy it. They may enjoy the cigarette because of the nicotine relief they get but nearly no one will tell you that the flavor and sensation of smoking tobacco is addictive.

America has never really healed from the many decades of slavery. The country continues to fracture along the same lines that the Macon-Dixon divide delineated and the resentment of having to give up slaves has mutated into what it is now. American police forces are populated with ex-military who have undiagnosed and untreated PTSS with the mentality that all problems can be resolved with enough force. Here in Canada, many police divide the people they serve into those who are slavishly supportive and anyone who questions or resists being tagged as "__ holes", worthy of nothing but contempt. Bullies target those who they see as most vulnerable and least likely to fight back, and those are non-white and non-binary in sexuality.
