He is coming off back to back 1000 yard seasons. Why the fack would we not want him over corn on the cobb? Jeeze people on here were talking about a return of Schoen a week ago... Lewis is far more realistic of an option.

I don't think he is the same coach. I think he's more conservative now than when he started. I mean when's the last time we ran a trick play? He was well known for that sort of thing or using the rules to his advantage but we haven't really seen that in years.

You said it yourself, coaching cost one grey Cup (I would argue 2 but seblantics) I would also suggest that given how talented those teams were we could have been even more dominant with better coaching. So the point is, when you get a supremely talented team that by the coaches own admission ran the room and you also had coordinators at the time who had been head coaches doesn't that perhaps speak to the limitation of our head coach? I want a coach who gets the most out of his roster. If you're doing that and still losing then you know exactly where the problem areas are. When the coach isn't getting the most out of his roster it is a lot harder to separate the good from bad
  4. 4 points
Well given his release his current salary is 0.... So looking around the league where the **** else is he going to play? If he wants to play this year he won't be in a position to demand huge coin.

Once upon a time maybe, but O'Shea has overseen this decline and done nothing to indicate he can recognize or that that he is willing to change. He has been here for a long long time. No one coaches in one place forever, least of all people who can't adapt

The numbers Charles Roberts put up with a lot of shitty teams are ridiculous. That guy never gets talked about as an all time great in the CFL.

Yes. A good coach can wring the best out of a mediocre team and what we got was the last two games ought to be an embarrassment to coaches and management. O'Shea's comment after the last debacle was that the team was tired and trying too hard. Not only was that laughable, it was self- contradictory.
  8. 3 points
Even if his new top end is 800 yards what is wrong with that? No one here is suggesting we sign him as a number one option.

Geno was a 1000 yard receiver last year and had his best games when Dru was healthy.

You can turn it around in 1 year, and also you can go from top to flop.
  13. Lewis has looked pretty cooked this year in Ottawa but maybe a change of scenery will help
  14. 3 points
So you're saying don't make an attempt to get better? I agree he's a half season solution but it would help us a little. It would be great to play a bunch of young guys but we don't have them.
  15. Corky is the obvious answer. He has the needed intangibles.
  16. Exactly..he is a guy to augment the group with experience and big play ability..and give us some size and another option...not be a focal point of offence Corcoran should never see roster

Yes he was, he was only here in the back half of '09 but he had several 3rd and short plays that he turned into large gains. He was cut before the 2010 season after the Bombers brought in Pierce, Jyles, and Brink.
  18. 2 points
the guy with the best opinion on the Geno Lewis question is already in the org. If Dru Brown says "bring in Geno" then bring in Geno. If Dru Brown says "don't bring in Geno" then we should not bring in Geno. Dru is gonna know exactly where Geno is at.

I would not be against changes at all. It's just that with all the current issues, the positive aspects of the O'Shea era are not being remembered, and it is being implied that success happened in spite of him. I just want remind all of us that Bombers teams in early 90s and also early 2000s, laden with talent, did not win championships.
  20. I always said we need another American receiver in the lineup so if you can get him for the remainder off the season at a pro rated ticket why not try.
  21. 2 points
I think Lewis's play has suffered, because of the lack of talent in Ottawa around him...I say bring him in on a deal favourable to both sides ....he makes our receiving corps gain some respectability AND he can actually catch

The narrative on MBB from 2018 - 2022, was that the culture that O'Shea had built was attracting talent to Winnipeg and we would continue to see the results of that. Since roughly the end of 2022, the narrative has been roster management.

Osh, to me looks lost. I don't think he has any answers so he tells us that game film tells the truth. We all know his shortcomings as a head coach. After 13 seasons, he's the last guy I believe that can build us a winner. But relax, he'll be here until his contract expires due to the coaching & admin cap. Even if we don't win another game.
  25. 2 points
I would take Geno in a heart beat if he is willing to come at a reasonable rate. He instantly becomes an upgrade for us. Cooked is a matter of perspective. He's got JM as his QB. I mean seriously look at our receiving corps. We need 3 IMPs out there and right now we only have 2 worth starting
  26. I’d takes Lewis fully cooked over a never ripe Cobb
  27. 2 points
remember, we are comparing him to two canadians who can’t out run olinemen. At worst, lewis would instantly be our best 50/50 guy. I wouldn’t expect lewis to be a wr1 or worth 200k a year. but our replacement level wr right now the wr3 on a mid tier beer league team
  28. 2 points
Geno Freakin Lewis? Are you guys wrecked? Walks away muttering about old, expensive guys who used to be good.
  29. 1 point
I highly doubt Geno Lewis would make us worse. I see no downside to bringing him in.
  30. 1 point
Its as obvious as could be that Lewis would help our offence. Let's see if Walters does his job. There is no rational reason why we wouldn't vigorously pursue him. History with Condell/Brown..check. Need by the Bombers..check. Tenured vet we could use as a naturalized IMP if we wanted..check. Its a no brainer. I could not foresee circumstance where our coaches would not welcome some receiver talent.
  31. 1 point
tExactly..he is a guy to augment the group with experience and big play ability..and give us some size and another option...not be a focal point of offence Only allowed into the stadium if he buys a ticket. Cobb is no hell but way better and since we have Clercius back, there is no reason for Corcoran to darken the Bombers' door.

No doubt. It is quite the stretch to blame everything on the coaches when we lose and to say the coaches had nothing to do with it when we win. That's just nonsense imo. Our coaching could be better right now..no doubt about it but our coaching and GMing were top notch for our evolution from laughing stock to powerhouse in our Grey Cup years. The 2019 Grey Cup run was a master class in coaching for instance. We finished 3rd in our division and Hall's gameplanning was unreal, and Lapo's use of the QB tandem was excellence in gameplanning.

  37. 1 point
Lewis old contract is irrelevant..wr could pick him up with a friendly deal for both sides He also shouldn't be judged for whats gone on in Ottawa...and the dude isnt cooked...just in a bad place Would he upgrade us...most definitely...would he open up space for our top guys..again..definitely And I sure he would come in with a point to prove too...to not pick him up if for anythung just to see...is proof positive we going nowhere with this coaching and management crew.. as they see no desire to get better and think things are good...and considering this is a bye week...its the perfect scenario as he could be inserted 1st game back

Offer him a minimum contract with a lot of potential performance bonuses. If he lights it up he gets paid, if he doesn’t he hasn’t cost much. Either way I can’t see him being worse than Cobb. And if he won’t accept a contract like that, then to heck with him.

I want a coach that wins. That is my one and only criteria. Dont under sell how hard it is to get to 5 straight championships as a coach. There have been a **** ton of more talented teams than our 5 year run that could not get the same level of winning consistently as we did. Sometimes, what the average fan interprets as bad coaching or roster management is in fact building a locker room. We run our mouths because we are not inside the locker room, coaches offices to know better. I would like to see better coaching in some aspects, and our coordinators definitely have some work to do, but there isn't a coach in this league I would rather have rebuilding our team than MOS. Fact is, that's what we require.
  42. I'd be interested but I don't like the salary Lewis has. He just isn't worth it. I doubt if he'd take a 50% salary cut to play here anyway on a team that realistically isn't much better than Ottawa. We won a couple of our games with smoke & mirrors. We have so many issues & holes everywhere on the roster. It's just so sad how this team was allowed to go to seed while living in the past. Bringing in an old veteran like Lewis for 10 games? How much would he actually help us? He could be invisible here, as well. I think we're stuck with who we have & where they play. If they're going to upgrade it needs to be on the OL, at linenacker & secondary. That's where the money needs to be spent.

We were immensely talented in 2019 and 2021. Coaching was exactly the same. Coaching never got in the way of 3 straight cup appearances afterwards. Proĺly cost us one GC in that span and partially contributed to two other losses but at the end of the day being one or two plays away from 5 straight cups speaks to what this staff can get out of their talent, when they have it at their disposal. Talent trumps Coaching 7 days a week. Unless your coach is intentionally trying to lose, talent will carry the day more times than not. Does our Coaching need improvement? Absolutely. Its not good enough to get wins out of a not very talented team. If it's done correctly for sure.
  45. Question for those who’ve watched Geno Lewis outside of when Ottawa plays Winnipeg… does he still have it? Asking because Ottawa is so bad it’s tough to tell. Obviously he isn’t a long term solution but is there any risk that signing him could be another Adarius Bowman/Chris Matthews type of bust?
