  1. Can't overstate how big of a loss Goveia is. Not many around with his knowledge, connections and abilities across Canada. Sort of feels like this era is coming to an end.

  2. ZC is going to chuck it downfield. The best thing they can do for the offense...is field personnel who can best make that work.

  4. I don't know that we should be immediately unhappy with an internal hire. None of us really know how good or bad an internal hire would be. I just hope they do some sort of search.

  5. My vote is for Jackson. I was impressed with the Elks run game. I think he could bring some fresh ideas to Winnipeg's offence.

  6. Shame that Wilson is made of glass cause God he could be a good player when healthy.

  7. We need another prime Kyrie and from first looks at Ayer's he looks like he can be that guy but brings more a whallop

  8. at very worst he is the perfect DA linebacker who can fill in at 2 spots...plays teams.....He has shown he is a capable starter...with some limitations but would kill it as a situational down backer

  9. Jones looked really good at times this year. This is a solid signing and a 2 year pact says they have high hopes for him...

  10. I'd be all for Jackson to be honest...He would know how to use the pieces we have....and I bet he could bring Leke with him as I sure Leake loved how he was used...He would solve several issues for us...returner...reciever...change of pace backfield guy

  11. Sweet! Hope this means the writing is on the wall for Bighill.

  12. Hiring from within would be on-brand and would not be my first choice. We need new blood and the fact that they got permission from BC ahead of time for Macsymic gives me hope that they feel the same way.

  13. I tend to side with this

  14. I view it somewhat differently... I mean during the years Lyle Bauer was here we had some successful seasons but the failure in bringing home the championship kept leading to change, which kept causing setbacks organizationaly which led to a huge hole to dig out from. I'm not so linear in thinking that if you're not first your last. There's a lot of context surrounding any seasons result. 3 straight Grey cup losses... they do show some areas to adjust for sure, but we can't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

  15. For his first post it was an attention getter

  16. Best case scenario (that’s realistic) is we rotate guys up the middle like we used to on the dl. Heavy mix of ayers, Cole, and jones in different packages and situations.

  17. The biggest issue here with the team starting to crumble is that they aren't really finding guys on the US side who make a difference. Look at receiver/running back/receiver. We had 20 guys in camp and the only one who ended up not being a total dud was Ontaria Wilson, who is an average talent level CFL receiver. Rush end. WIL LB. Kicker/punter (Globals included who are mostly playing in US). They've been great at finding DB's and found Schoen. They've hit some home runs but also had some major whiffs. Need more singles and doubles.

  18. Then we agree. This is more what I'm referring to. As compared to all check downs, previous to ZC.

  19. Every team brings guys like that to camp, it's the keeping and playing that was the issue.

  20. TBF, other than Dobson, the only other 1st round pick we've had in the last 5 years was Bennett. We traded down this past draft to get 2 early 2nd rounders in a deep draft (Clercius & MCI). We traded our 2022 pick for Lawson & we traded our 2020 pick in the Collaros trade.

  21. Buck deserved to be a HC, I think BC is a good fit for him. He had the luxury of a good situation here in the Peg and some personal stuff to work through. The timing and location of this worked out, and I wish him all the best....just not while playing us.... Tedd has from all respects a very good reputation, again I wish him all the best We have been so fortunate that we have kept not only players but coaches throughout this amazing multiyear run, but alas change was inevitable. Whether we hire from within or externally so far Miller and Walters track records have been pretty good. I believe they at least deserve benefit of the doubt, and some grace based off all the success they have bred here over this amazing run. Very, very happy to have Stan back, he was my number one guy I wanted back.

  22. I'd prefer an outside hire for new blood and ideas. That said, maybe he's another JY.

  25. Costello would be the guy I wouldn't wanna lose.....The other offensive assistants easily replaceable and interchangeable....If need be I could see us adding a title to Costello like you mentioned....especially if we go with a new external hire for O.C And yeah with both Buck and Killam they need to have top rate coordinators....well really any HC should as thats what makes a great HC....His underlings....much like an Engineering office is only as good as it's engineering technologists and field guys......they do all the work and the P.Eng just stamps it I do hope we bring in new blood and ideas...we have gotten stale fast....and with new coaching bloodlines a lot of times comes ne blood with players following

  26. It should be noted that when hiring anyone for a promotion it's extremely hard to predict how they'll do. I wouldn't be overly excited with an internal promotion but can see why they'd do it.

  27. Good for Buck....He needs the chance to give it a whirl....Maybe with just managuing the game day...and not the play calling will be right up his alley now, as he seemed to falter a lot with in game adapting....let his CoOrds do that Same with Killam....not sure why many here...who really dont know much about the guy other than yip yappin here are so negatives,,,,guys a quality coach, and has gotten kudos by many current and former players a well....sucking in Cgy isn't a reflection on any of the assistants there...it falls right on HC and GM....OH...THEY THE SAME DUDE....imagine that AS for us....if we go this purported internal promotion thats literally taking a step back....same ol same ol...status quo....happy with just maintaining...I hate that is even being looked at....but typical and not shocking with the way the team and how certain aspects are ran....sadly The loss of Buck tho will be the best thing for Strev if he is retained...and from my understanding will be. We have the opportunity to infuse some fresh new blood/ideas/philosophies....dont drop the ball on that

  28. Yep. I really like the balance he strikes in terms of size and strength between Cole and jones. Very kyrie esq

  29. If this were really true why even have the regular season? Yes ultimately the championship is the main goal, but you don't get the chance without regular season results. You know that I don't blindly support every move this team makes with their roster choices, and you know I think you've got some good insights and are generally a knowledgeable voice.... however you are completely off the deep end in your constant criticism of the whole thing. You have strong opinions about the kind of player you like... but that's just one opinion, there's lots of things that can make a good player. Does this group get everything right? Nope not at all, but they do get a lot right as evidenced by the fact they have all this regular season success and have made 5 straight championship games. Honestly biggest step now IMO is figuring out why the offense has turned into a giant pile of useless in 3 straight Grey cups and change that.

  30. Me too. Jackson showed some commitment to the run too which would be welcome here.

  32. And I think if it’s bourgoin getting the oc, that we will see that. Before bucks overhaul this year we saw a lot of that stuff especially with Lawler and schoen. Zach always had a guy down field in a position he was comfortable with who could break off and gouge the D for a 15-25 gain. But we lost those guys, plus the balance in our schemes to open those seams. Then with us not stretching the field side to side with motion and freezing the second level with pa it just was gone.

  33. It didn’t happen with strev and lapo, and zach has been forced to run check downs and screen based offences. Zach will take his shots, but I don’t think that will be a corner stone for us for certain. New oc can change a lot. At zachs best, he wasn’t chucking over the shoulder ropes to guys streaking down field. He was dissecting Ds with seam busters and deep outs 20 yards down field. That, is what should be a corner stone of our offence with zach at the helm. we didn’t adjust with personnel changes prior though, and we had the WRs to run it out earlier. Zach played a part in it, but the shift we saw to buck the especially in the final year was drastic. Hardly any thing remained from the lapo era. we have been known to hand out surprising over pays to guys taking starters jobs or who we hope would. As recently as last year we gave what 300k+ combined to Kramdi and Lawson. We paid rose bank well after his down turn. We been handing starters money to Augustine. Meanwhile we low balled grant twice. We are a bit unpredictable with paying our own guys. I hope this means biggie/kyrie are done here. I also hope it was a reasonable deal. Further more, I hope jones takes a long hard look at film and does a better job getting back to his spots in pass plays. Or has his snaps limited in those situations.

  34. Walters for now, he's done Natl. scouting before and is really good at it, he'll probably pull someone up from U-Sports to assist him or maybe pick up Eric Deslauriers the Natl. scout the Als dropped a few weeks ago.

  35. When Zach arrived in 2019, from his very first start, the ball was going downfield more. This continued under Buck. That's always going to be a cornerstone of the O, no matter who the OC is - so far there is no evidence to prove otherwise

  36. Will they NFL or not NFL...that is the question?
    2 points
  37. Agreed - just pointing out that it wasn't all homeruns. There are other examples too (Josh Johnson) but the bigger issue with those guys is the fact they were wasting active roster spots which has nothing to do with scouting.

  38. ??....Goveia has been almost primarily our NAT scout and he's done a pretty darn good job at it. However, there has been nothing meh about the talent we've brought in as IMPs either. We have gotten excellent, far above average scouting from our team. This has allowed us to stay at the top of the pile in the CFL for many years now. I understand that many guys here are upset that we lost 3 winner take all games, but it is has gone full on bananas with people discounting entire seasons we have either led the CFL or finished 1st in the West. That kind of sustainability is exceedingly difficult, and is the work of excellent recruitment, management, and coaching. It is bizarre to suggest otherwise. Some fans here need to eat some humble pie. This is not Saskatchewan for cripes sakes, we are the envy of the league.

  39. Buck May be a better HC than OC and now he has his chance. Buck did some good things here, a little questionable play calling lately, but I wish him success except when plays against the Bombers.

  43. Shitty about Goeveia but it was overdue. Shitty to lose start finally losing people in a GC hosting year. Very curious who steps up... I assume that Cyril guy gets the promotion.

  44. Costello is an A++ ast. For my money, ol coach is the hardest positional coach to find and develop too. We had the great foresight to have Costello work under bob wylie so we had the next man up. That almost never happens. Bourgoin a strong B+ and could be even better. He’s even more of a disciple of lapo than buck. They go back to the 90s. A big part of his value is he can do multiple jobs and excel at it. Pass game co, coach RBs WRs more than one job at a time too.

  45. Sure. My issue? Rolling the dice with a rookie OC in a GC hosting year... I want all my hires this year to be ******* Sterling and Diamond hires.
    2 points
  46. My concern would be he runs a lot of rpo’s, his offences tend to chuck at absurd rate and isn’t the best at maintaining the run. Which all plays into zachs weaknesses. I think khari as qb coach or assistant to another oc is a great asset though. I just think you need to support him to keep from devolving into what we saw in bc and mtl.

  47. Probably his track record his past couple years in the league. Seems like he doesn’t really last anywhere.
