The funny thing is O'Shea, in the couple of times I have talked to him, is very engaging and easy to talk to.

Yup we've been to the GC last four years in a row. Haters extremely tired of us. Everyone outside of our community is hoping for a different result. I get it, I know this aint going to last but sure am going to enjoy everything in the moment. 5 GC appearances in a row has a nice ring to it. Three Grey Cup wins in five consecutive GC appearances has a better ring to it.

of course, a call-in show is a terrible place to do education what with all the wastoids calling in to say "hey why don't you try to score more touchdowns?"

Sounds to me like people are aching more for actual football analysis from media here rather than narrative analysis. It's a problem with all sports coverage in this town going on a couple decades. Nothing stopping CJOB from having that show, or putting together a podcast. They have a decent podcast with Mackling and Doug Brown. Could put that on the air. You can really expect a coach to go on air and breakdown his own team or the next opponent etc.

not greatest in backfield either with blocks nope yup...nailed it Loss of Pushoff Rhymes and Hatcher...who was by far their best reciever, is a lot to overcome for the VAJ...Hollins flourished moreso from those guys being in the lineup....he doesnt have that now I look at our unit...U try and take away Lawler...One of Schoen or Demski gonna scalp you....or remove Scoen...Lawler will have a hey day....Plus both those guys as well have proven track record for us of being critical 2nd down conversion guys....and we havnt even touched on dependeable Woli also in the mix, and fact BO and Strev will be runing it down yer yapholes....wearing you down....no team in the West has 3 top end guys like that who also double as conversion guys...and a horse and a bull in the backfield on top of it

If we win the Cup this yr...I will go on record saying it was because we had a depp defensive front with a minimum of 7 guys...all worthy to be on roster due to talent...not nationality or tenure, and we will not dress any player ....in a key spot thats less than 80% as by that time only about 15% off guys will be 100%, and nobody is dressed who doesnt need to bring a helmet...because they didnt touch the field We do that...we win...and sadly if we adhered to that....it would be our 5th win in a row...regardless if a bounce had went this way or that way in the last 2...those bounces would have been irrelevant So taking 4 cups out of 6 after next yr will suit me just fine all warts considered

IMO BC's Canadian depth on D and OL is worse than ours minus Betts. They need a lot from Bemiy, Cherry, Hladik, Beaulieu, Greene. And they are hoping Covington isn't cooked. We need to stay healthy though.

Marshall Ferguson’s write up on Bennett potentially heading to the Bombers is funny too. He cautions readers that we could make it work as long as we do some ratio juggling. Last I checked, you don’t have to do anything ratio wise to let a Canadian play. What kind of garbage is this lol

Do not take fantasy advice from this guy. Zero research was done for this article. Beyond spelling mistakes, he also mentions three guys who are no longer with the team (one of whom was released weeks ago).

I dont think any commentator has actually educated a viewing fan in ages on TSN...Dunnigan actually when doing color will say things that will make the average fan go hmmm...interesting....even little snippets would be fine saying and showing how when a team sends a certain guy into motion....that the QB as well as the secondary recievig targets will recognize who moves with that guy tipping off coverage , and then where to attack, or modify their route/read.., or when guys in waggle/motion forward jam the breaks on...and reset....looking like they are out of sync...even a few commentators have said..."oh....Bombers...or whomever almost went off side there"....when in fact its designed to again get defense to undisguise what they are doing... so many little things that are not even talked about, lf explained would really give a viewer, and fan a better understanding of whats going on

I'm fairly certain there was a time where this was very strictly imposed in Bomberland. I'm thinking when Kelly was going into his downward spiral of hatred with the media, but I could be wrong. That's why I'd listen to the coaches show before, every once in a while there would be a nugget that I'd learn something from and give me greater insight to the game. I still thirst for this and this forum is where I get the most of it. I was recommended this book - Take Your Eye Off the Ball 2.0: How to Watch Football by Knowing Where to Look - Pat Kirwan, David Seigerman - Google Books - I don't know from where, possibly here. Haven't read it yet, as I was hoping to find a source more dedicated to Canadian football, but this may have to do.

sometimes in the oughts he had a Q&A column on cfl.ca and I wrote in asking how the defensive signals got from the bench to the defense. In response he wrote me a little book on how the D does its job. I was super impressed that he took the time to go deep with some fan on the Internet. edit: and to follow onto the question of how to make the coach's show better, I would love more inside baseball about how the game actually works. as someone who never played the game above the city-league flag football level, I find pro football is an astonishingly fast cycle of planning, reacting, and executing and the mechanics of that are fascinating to me. like, I would love to hear our center talk about how he calls the signals at the line ... the fact that the center can take the play call, eye the D, and then call out useful blocking assignments in one or two seconds in a potentially very loud stadium ... that seems like straight-up sorcery to me. or I would love to hear our QB give an eye view talk about blitz recognition, or about how he makes his RPO decisions.

yup...we used to employ a Canadian who essentially had no impact in any play...often was rarely even covered, and was never integral to anything we did as an offence....my how times have changed for the better If Edm had a compatent short yardage guy lsat yr they likley would have had 2..3 more wins alone due to some of the circus stuff we saw where they just looked like they were wanting to give a game away. The 2 games vs the Riders I believe would have been wins if i am remembering the bafoonery correctly

I disagree. Kelly would be willing to tear guys down and go into depth on why what he was doing was great. O'Shea isn't going to talk about personnel as a full boundary. He isn't going to dissect players in public. And that's fine. Whenever he is engaged on intelligent football discussion about tactics, schemes etc he will go into great depth and engage. It's just that we don't really have media who can engage that way.

I get what you're saying. And I get its tiresome to hear. Its soo irksome to watch. I hope our team is pissed right now. They should be. We should have 4 straight GC wins. Last years loss is worse than 01 on its own merit. I see us slowly making the same mistakes and more of them that lead to those loses and has lead to contender turn over. I'm not the only one who sees it. This time last year we didn't have many better options for roster problems. Right now, we have virtually every answer we could want available to us.

I think we are stronger at DL...QB....Reciever....jury out on the Oline until I see 2 games with whom they choose to roll with... DB not concerned...I think we may be better.....not concerned with age...the ne aging one that concerned me most is on the 6 game right now....and I bet once bulletts start to fly it will be apparent Thomas isnt able to give what we need....Younger wants athletic versatile guys.....Thomas is polar opposite

I'm not writing off Thursday as a loss. I will however be unhappy if the O is out of synch and we give away a game that we should of won because some guys were shaking off the rust. If the mindset is treating the first few weeks as an extended pre season and not putting as much weight on losing the first few games... that is a risk that I'm not a fan of, If 8 teams out of 9 are giving starters some reps in pre season and if 8 teams out of 9 are not using additional Canucks for no real reason... I refuse to believe that O'Shea is the only smart guy who has it figured out while everyone else is behind. I know his track record gives him the benefit of the doubt but these are a few things that had a new coach implemented we would be much more vocal with the complaints.

my complaint isn't about last year. It's that guys are already writing thursday off as a loss. it's ******* weird. Say what you want about the GC games. But no team has won more regular season games than the Bombers in almost a decade. Thursday isn't a grey cup. It's week 1. How have week 1 games gone the past few years? Someone want to remind me?

You're not even allowing for the possibility that you may be slightly overvaluing guys you've seen for a handful of snaps across one or two of poorly televised pre-season games, eh?

It's a very long season, plenty of time to "adapt". While I'd like the Bombers, to (unrealistically) go 18-0, I just want them in the playoffs.

I don't mind us keeping DBs we never heard of in preseason. When ppl know a new DBs name well it can sometimes be a bad thing. Hardly heard Nichols name all year last year..no one threw his way.

Does Zach restructuring maybe mean a move is coming like a Mason Bennett and Coleman being released means you can drop a DL to the PR. Samson is likely. who is Griffin tho. The DB. Did he play in any pre season games. Didn’t hear **** about him. bonds and bridges seem like finds tho. Gemmel also. Adams looks like a stud. So 2 dbs a lb and a DL. Not bad. Think I counted about 15 guys not on the team last year. Including draft picks and T ford. That’s a bit of change.

Im excited to see what Ford can do, and im getting Deatrick Nichols vibes from Bonds. Theyve got identical frames and both had a decent pedigree before coming here. Hope we found another diamond!

You have to really set it up and prioritize blitzing to counter specific looks. Show and drop a lot, move guys around, etc. delay blitzing a db from the blind side is about as good as it gets. Sending 1-3 guys on a regular basis especially spread out is awful. Our defensive success came with getting pressure from our front. Creativity is better spent on front alignments twists etc.

Blitzing in general is a bad strategy. Teams on O and QB's are prepared for it generally. Need to be able to get pressure with 4 which was a deficiency last season.

I hope we see 8 DL on the AR. I hope that Jake is a nominal starter but plays less than half the snaps.

I think our offence is going to be outstanding. Schoen, Lawler, Demski, Oliveira.... No one can match those weapons.

Less than 1/4 would be preferable...it will be almost comical tho to see Adams..FOx.. Woods being disruptive..flying around.. backside pursuit...aggressive energy...then Jake's reps..just trying to push straight ahead..not being able to get off a block then jogging up to the end of the play to glad hand and high 5 guys
