  1. It’s hard to tell if the last 4 ish drafts have just been weak or if this is just the norm now. The nfl vacuum is at an all time high. Feeding the larger and more expensive tcs and prs.

  2. Just scrap the damn rule and be done with it. It just allows GMs and teams to be lazy in their approach to scouting, drafting, and developing NATs.

  3. Honestly just a ridiculous expectation

  4. We really could. Three picks in the top 20, we need to take a big swing with one of them if you ask me. Ten picks in total. We need to come away with a good mix of everything. Lots of good prospects with varying purposes at the top of the board. Would like to see them look WR (Mital), OL (Wallace) or even wonder if they’d take a look at a unique player like TE Tanner McLachlan to fill that blocking role or take a long term look at someone like DT Kail Dava (will drop, out long term with an injury) TONS of options

  5. Our top 4-5 maybe. Our top 10 falls off QUICK and it’s not even close to the best in the league.

  6. 2019 and 2021 that just won the trenches so hard teams couldn't compete. 8 guys rotating along the defensive line who could contribute. We lost that the past couple years and you see the difference. No grey cups.

  7. @FrostyWinnipeg love the thread title, I am making my pitch right now for Friday’s re-match thread to be titled “From SEA to shining SEA”

  8. No. The 2019 & 2021 teams had the opposition physically beaten down by the 4th quarter.

  10. Last two years this team should’ve handily won the gc. Underachieving the main goal with the best team isn’t an achievement. Take the best roster and team and finish with a great record that’s kind of expected. Marty Schottenheimer is a great example of a nfl coach who was considered great, but underachieved when it counted most. He got the rap of a guy who could turn a team around and could take you to a big game but not win it. Mos isn’t a Marty. But he’s also not a bill Walsh. At the end of the day, his teams don’t hate losing enough. Culture is more important to him than winning.

  11. Thing is our Canadian depth has been on the weak side the last two years save for back up ol. Do you think the 3ni safety’s are better than import dbs like Parker? Do you think Bennett and Schmekel are better than Habba or fox? Our back up candians aren’t better players than our back up imp players. Nis are well behind the imps position by position league wide. People just don’t get it. They watched rotations with high quality guys propel us to grey cups and still can’t see the Forrest from the trees. We’ve also seen countless times useless guys like hurl, kuale, up to Jackson rostered and even started. People talked bad about pigrome thinking he wouldn’t get picked up or how he’s not worth it now. But the same people don’t recognize that the mos guys that start or kr seldom if ever get picked up when we let them go. We start guys then let them go in the off season and no one wants them as back ups. mos is the best player manager, culture guy, and leader in the league. He’s also the worst at setting up a roster.

  12. he didnt like the rule when they were creating it...as he is on the committee and from what I hear was the only ditractor to it....needs to at times put his Canadian Bias and love aside for the betterment of the team...as was basically sole reason for his No vote...and this I guess is his statement and dieing on that hill with not using it....to me....thats not a good trait to harbour...using stubborn bias at expense of maximizing your roster, and making your team better...but whatever...he ain't gonna change and have to rserve ourselves to th fact that for his tenure here we will see more less than optimal moves, Just cause he is friggin Mike Oshea

  13. It is funny though because the extra Canadian is used for some flexibility and you could easily use the nationalized rule to give you more flexibility in case of injury. It's actually incredibly stupid to not use it even if you don't plan on functionally using it for substitutions....you can have it in your back pocket in case you get some injuries.

  14. cause dome arte boot lickers...so to ay....and no offence btw...I like OSH as well but he has a few big flaws....and if corrected...just iagine the juggernaut we would have...and we likely be going for 5 straight cup wins do u not understand the usage??...you could use either...or as a national if someone went down with injury, anbd use an import to replace the actual injured....or if you added say a Cole for Kramdi for a certain scheme/set...U dont have to pull an import off say at end...or Dtackle to compensate....for example replace a Walker/Fox with a slug like Schmeckle or a severly declining Thomas....or a WJ/JJ/Haba...whomever your starter is with a useless Bennett...thats how it benefits....u can slice and dice it ans lick boot bottoms all you want, but utilizing the rules(s) only benefit the team as a whole over all...If you don't actually see that then I truly question your intelligence

  15. lol. WJ and JJ are already on the field. No need to exaggerate your point. It would of had to be Haba or Fox coming on.

  16. So you trying to say WJ or JJ taking reps in lieu of Bennett...Schmeckle...Thomas is a downgrade?? That's almost laughable...but keep trying to defend the lunacy of not using the rule

  19. I think Kelly could be a ST ace this season and Murphy likely gives us a few catches but I don't see a huge impact from any of the 2023 draft class if a huge impact is quality starter.

  20. Seconded. 🙂

  21. I think year #2 is going to show last years draft class was not all that bad, eager to see what Max Charbonneau, Bret MacDougall, Jeremy Murphy and Jake Kelly bring to TC. I'll predict that 2 of those 4 eventually become impact players.

  22. Not mentioned in this discussion is that the Natl. American rule did not fulfill it's intended purpose of extending the careers of fan favourite veteran American players who were no longer able to secure starting roles, but were still marketable personnel for their team within their communities. A player like Darvin Adams comes to mind. What happened within one week of the season starting is a few teams of low character figured out how to subvert the rule intent and twist it to their advantage. Both Calgary and BC demonstrated this in week #1, having established starters such Kadeem Carey and Dominique Rhymes listed as backups to no-name players who they replaced after the first snap and played the rest of the game, thus subverting the ratio as the 23 play count applies only to the designated starter. Same thing was done on defence as teams were permitted to have a designated nationalized American on offence and defence. Game #1 the Stamps used their defensive designation on veteran defensive back Branden Dozier, who started behind rookie Michael Griffin, the Lions subbed vet. Woody Baron in for Global no-name Tibo Debaillie after one snap. The blame falls on the league for failing to close an obvious loophole on a rule that may have had good intentions and been worthwhile. As the rule change failed to achieve what is was designed to do, it should be altered to more accurately serve it's purpose, or immediately be eliminated.

  23. Yeah that comment reaks of living in the past, like say 5 years ago. And even then it was more the depth than pure top end talent.

  24. Honestly I don’t even hate the Bennett pick because the draft class was so bad, as I said right from the start of the lead up last year. Just the player deployment is an issue.

  28. The most frustrating thing is the way Osh chose to cut off the teams nose despite the face regarding the nationalized Americans. I’ve never before heard of a coach deliberately declining to use an advantageous rule. A comparable scenario would be a coach declining a no-yards call because he was mad they got rid of the 5 yard penalty.

  29. Ryan Ballantyne. He isn't credible because he's a Stamps Boi. He doesn't care about other teams. Just the Stamps. He believes he's a credible member of the CFL media. I disagree because he's a Stamps fan. My feeling if you want to be considered a member of the legit "media" then you can't show your biases when you're reporting stories & have to be neutral. I've occasionally had the odd run in with him online. (Surprise, surprise ).... He doesn't like it if someone questions his analysis.

  30. I have no problem with Booch voicing his concern over the wat our roster is utilized, whether once or a thousand times. Why do you??

  32. 3DN is super credible as far as reporting news. Dunk and Hodge are both very well connected throughout the league, just look at how many signings they leaked prior to official announcements. They don’t miss on that front at all and it’s unfair to say they do. The problem with them is the exact opposite of what you’re suggesting it is. When they get into actual analysis, it’s worse than your typical tan forum commentary. Hodge, JC Abbott, that guy who was on Big Brother from Calgary … they’re all lost when it actually comes to discussing football. if they just stick to the news they’d be fine and that’s coming from someone who really doesn’t like any of them on any level. They all suck. But they’re definitely well connected within the league - although I’ll definitely suggest it’s because SOMEBODY has to be and they do it by default for all the team executives and player agents

  33. His list from from post-Kevin Glenn to pre-Matt Nichols... so that would be 2009 through game 5 of 2016 (I think I have that time frame right)... I believe Kingsbury was only here one year, 2007

  35. Thing is we had a lot of wasted roster spots. Dressing 7 OL hindered the team. Yes they used all of them for certain offensive packages... but was it the best use of roster? Not really IMO. Jackson was a total waste because he didn't do anything well enough to justify a DI spot there. Regularly dressing bodies who don't play a single snap... these things need to improve to get the best out of the team.

  36. it's a fan blog and nothing more. Dunk has a little bit of insight, but everyone else on there is just a messageboard poster posing as "media". We absolutely have better insight (and likely better writers) on MBB...

  37. It also means that if you're valuing the draft pick that highly, you should probably hit on a few draft picks.

  38. What TSN says is he never fumbled and never lost one. It does not mention turnovers on downs. And I know for a fact those stats are not completely accurate. In his one game as a Bomber rushing he failed on a 3rd and goal QB sneak attempt against Hamilton, and after that Dru Brown became the short yardage QB until they brought Prukop back and cut Pigrome. Once in Ottawa he failed on two more 3rd and short attempts. His most infamous gaffe was in a 3 point loss to the Ti-Cats where he had 3 cracks from the Hamilton 1 yard line to punch it in and got zero yards each time (in fact he fumbled the 2nd down play but his teammate recovered it).
