  1. I think we've been too narrow minded... what we really ought to be doing is going to 5 down football. More downs = more fans, it's so simply obvious!

  2. Hey fellas, found this book on amazon, just came out in January. Its called Border Boys and its basically a historical look at football in general but mostly focusses on the American players that lived close to Canada that came up north in the 30's and helped change our game. Specifically about the first time the Grey Cup was won by a western team(Winnipeg in 1935). Its written by a North Dakotan (Ryan Christiansen). I just got into it but it really seems like he's done his research. Thought you all might find it interesting. Thats Fritz Hanson on the cover who essentially became the first true Winnipeg Blue Bomber star back in the 30's. He pretty much single handedly won us the 1935 Grey Cup from what ive read(334 punt return yards in the game which is still a Grey Cup record). My late grandmother would often speak of his exploits 🙂

  6. I forgot this thread existed..... here's the latest CFL.ca Mock from Marshall Ferguson (h/t @JCon for digging it up first) https://www.cfl.ca/2022/04/26/mock-2-0-who-will-be-selected/ As with John Hodge's first mock, Ferg has us taking OL Zack Pelehos at #9.

  10. this was who Hodge had us taking in his first mock, and I'm now inclined to believe that's who we'll take. Ferguson had us getting Zerr at 9 (in his first mock), but I just can't imagine a world where the Riders let a USask OL fall to us. I'm betting on Pelehos and think he'll be a good one, based on everything I've read.

Rumours are circulating that Mark Meadows, Trump's former Chief Of Staff, who has defied a subpoena and has been alleged to have urged Trump to overturn the election will be charged with serous offences. This is said to be why he has not been brought before a judge as yet.

Grifters the lot of them. The group that owns the Flames are terrible for it. Killed the arena deal because the city had the audacity to expect them to pay for cost increases.

I constantly hear a lot of chatter from people about the importance of freedom of speech. Absolutely however I don't hear as much chatter from these same people on the importance of being held accountable for the words that are spoken. Same thing when it comes to freedom to choose but little on consequences of those choices made. Same thing when it comes to individual rights but little on social responsibility. Fascinating.

  17. Calgary is becoming like Vancouver. We believe we're too good for the CFL. That we should be an NFL city. Politicians keep saying we're "world class" but we're not. We're Podunk City. We have a fire trap for a baseball stadium that is not being used, sitting empty, literally condemened & allowed to rot on Crowchild Trail beside McMahon. The City of Calgary has been talking about a fieldhouse for 60 years & it still hasn't been built. The Stamps have no indoor facility to practice because their billionaire owner refuses to spend a penny on the team. During the smoke from forest fires last season, the Stamps had to cancel practice numerous times because it was too dangerous health wise to practice outdoors. The Stamps have always had to practice outdoors in all kinds of bad weather like it was still 1960 while other CFL teams can go indoors which is a big advantage for the other CFL teams. Edwards doesn't care. Same with a football stadium. Murray Edwards is probably the worst owner in the CFL. He is an absentee owner. He lives in London, England having left Canada when Trudeau got elected to avoid paying taxes. Owning the Stamps is a tax write off for him. Building a 35,000 seat stadium will never happen as long as he owns the team. So, our world class city has world class dump for football. Getting an arena built is a huge political football. Both sides, edwards & the City of Calgary are grandstanding by delaying the project. After they agree to finally get it built, a new stadium will be forgotten. There's no political will to get it done.

Simple answer to all this: watch what the doctors and nurses are doing.

  19. Single game day seats for the Stamps are $80 to sit on the 30 yard line up high. Or thereabouts. Who wants to spend over $300 for a family of 4 to attend? Then there's food & drinks. Slap down another $70 for that. People aren't dumb. They'll just stay home & watch it on TV. I talked to the Stamps Ticket Manager about prices a few years ago. He didn't think the single game day prices were too high. I suggested the Stamps do what the Bombers do. Offer 3 & 4 game Flex Packs where fans can buy the same seat for games they want to see. He just laughed & said no. And so, the Stamps sit stuck at 22,000 people attending per game with 13,000 seats on average sitting empty for every game. It's like CFL teams just ignore the fact that every game is now televised & fans have a choice to go or not. That & the game day experience at McMahon Stadium isn't very good. People have tailgates but they're private affairs. People just can't walk up to a random group of fans, say hello & start drinking & eating the other fans food. The other thing I need to mention is that because of my arthritis & mobility issues as I walk with a cane & have balance problems, going to McMahon Stadium to watch a game has now become impossible. Climbing up & down stairs with no handrails over 50 rows is something I no longer can do. I'm slower than most fans so I'd have to wait until the stadium has cleared out before I could navigate the stairs. Afraid of stumbling & falling. Hard to get to concession s all in the concourse at the bottom of the stadium. No elevators or escalators. No thanks. IG Field has concessions in the upper deck & elevators to get back & forth from the seats I purchased. And I don't have to climb any more than 15 rows to get to my seats & the steps have handrails. I also have handicap parking in Sec U si I just have to cross the street. Calgary is stuck with an aging 62 year old stadium that needs replacing. It was state of the art when JFK was President & the Beach Boys were topping the charts with songs about surfing. But going to a game in Winnipeg over Calgary is eye opening. McMahon Stadium is a dump. More fans are staying away because of it. I'll never go there to another game.

  20. Nothing but room... with likely one way in and out.... and then do you add in all the people drinking beer at the game and hopping into their cars to drive home? No build an arena downtownish with access to public transit. well better to sell out quick than not sell out...

  23. In general I feel like I'm pretty far off the beat for how we draft. We like athletic, high upside guys and kind of mid level lotto ticket picks. But out side of that, and attributes we like I don't think I've been right about a single selection the team has made in the mafia era. With that said, I just can't see the logic behind all these prognosticators. This is a mediocre if not bad batch of OL prospects. I just can't imagine us reaching for a mid level OL prospect with a low ceiling, early on in this weak of a draft (for ol). Especially not with soo many highly athletic defensive players who can contribute on teams early on. I'm willing to bet that Eli will be back this year. I dont think dobson has been starting in the USFL, and if thats so I dont think he will be NFL bound this year.

So I go to the airport planning to go on a flight, just so happens I have a loaded gun with me and I get caught do I get arrested and go to jail, or do I get cited and the gun is taken away from me. This Cawthorn idiot is a piece of work, wonder if he had body amour on during the 1/6 attack when he was caught with a loaded gun. So he drives with out a license and carries a loaded handgun, what a model politician he is

  25. I could see us trading up in this draft. I think the no1 pick is on the market, and this is the draft to trade up in imo. Maybe not to first over all, but the difference in value between a top 5 pick and the next 10 ish is really big. If we did go to first over all though, Richards would be plug and play ratio wise for the loss of kongbo. He's a great athlete and this draft has really good depth for developmental athletic lbers. I think Beeksma ( polished teams player) and Appolon (Versatile athlete) would be great fits too. I think we have a great opportunity to get a guy to develop and play reps this year. Federico could be another guy that rosters this year, rotates some and contributes on teams right away. Knight and Pelley are really interesting prospects that could fit well with what we do on the DL as well. For Ol I think gregor mackellar is a great sleeper pick for us. Big tremendous physical talent who is the nastiest Ol in the draft. He's a guy that we could groom for a while and not need to rush. He's got fantastic upside if he jives with the coaching staff. I think we really want to grow NI depth at DB as well, so tyrell ford could be a great fit that might be available in the 2nd round. I also think its a great year for the bombers to take lotto ticket pickets like luketa if they dont trade up.

  26. MOCK 2.0: WHO WILL BE SELECTED? By: Marshall Ferguson https://www.cfl.ca/2022/04/26/mock-2-0-who-will-be-selected/ 9. WINNIPEG ZACK PELEHOS OL | OTTAWA From Regional Combine to first rounder? The path is rare, but Pelehos showed he’s got the right makeup as the Bombers test their eye for lineman talent in an effort to replace former first round pick Drew Desjarlais, who signed with the New England Patriots this off-season.

Leaked Text Reveals Marjorie Taylor Greene Wanted Trump To Declare Martial Law And “Go After” Biden In a leaked text to Mark Meadows, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene wanted Trump to declare martial law as Republicans wanted to “go after” Biden. Here is the text as obtained by CNN: "In our private chat with only Members, several are saying the only way to save our Republic is for Trump to call for Marshall law. I don’t know on those things. I just wanted you to tell him. They stole this election. We all know. They will destroy our country next. Please tell him to declassify as much as possible so we can go after Biden and anyone else!" Greene shows that she does not know what martial law is, but more importantly what does she mean by “go after Biden?” Greene’s text reveals that the House Republicans have been planning to investigate Biden for years. House Republicans, like Greene, want to “save the republic” by destroying democracy. Contrary to her court testimony, Marjorie Taylor Green’s court testimony, she was very involved in the plot to overturn the election, and in fact, she wanted House Republicans to go after Biden.

We went to a new Calgary restaurant yon Sunday. It's back to getting as many tables into a small space as possible. Tables so close that you can hear the conversations all around. One table next to me was ordering. The waitress stood less than 6 inches away from me over my left shoulder taking the order & talking. I felt very uncomfortable. Like you, I figure what's the point of wearing a mask anymore? My wife who is an RN says that each individual N95 mask has to be fitted properly to a person's face. So, most people are not wearing them properly.

I don't hunt either, but I think it's good that some people do. The white tails and the honkers no longer have enough predators, and have really adapted to farmland If no one hunts, then those populations will be controlled by disease epidemics or climate factors - which to an extent already happens Just one example: We saw mange run through our local coyote population the past couple winters - I saw one with almost no hair left and literally crying - at our cattle shed Being harvested by a humane hunter or trapper - would have been a much kinder fate

  36. I'll go to McMahon for Bombers games, but that's it. I've got friends in town here that have Stamps season tickets and every year are trying to get me to go in on their section. No f***ing way. I am spending way more than those tix would cost to buy a Flex Pack of Bombers tickets and fly to and from the games, and it's still far better money spent.

So just a bit if background. I was a big time gun guy for decades. I owned my own 22 at age 12. I was on a championship Jr. Rifle club team. Our meat diet was 99% wild game for decades. I use to work crazy hours spring to fall then hunt non stop everyday for 3 or 4 months before heading west for work. I've owned 100s of guns over the years including hand guns at times. I lived to hunt and shoot back in the day. I still have guns but I'm just not into it like I was anymore. Yes , almost any gun can be turned into a concealed weapon with a bit of work. As far as turning a semi into full auto it was easy with particular gun makes and models but not most. Its tough and makes them pretty much useless. The majority of centerfire hunting rifles are bolt actions. Not to be insulting but most really serious hunters and shooters won't bother with semi auto center fire rifles. We mostly saw them used by casual hunters. .22s are a different story. Tons of .22 semis are used are used for plinking, gophers ..... As far as shotguns it would be pumps, double barrel, semi, single break then the rarely seen bolt action. I am in favour of gun laws that make a REAL difference. Laws that actually do something not just make uninformed non gun owners happy. I'm a big fan of the PAL licence. Having your background checked by the RCMP before you can own, posses , borrow, use a gun makes a whole lot of sense. As far as hand guns. My understanding is about %80 - %90 of handguns that are confiscated have come across the border. So an outright ban isn't going to do alot. I'm not sure what has changed I the last 20 years but when I owned them I could only leave my property with a handgun to go to a sanctioned gun range at a particular time. I was required to drive directly there and back with no stops in between. I can't remember the last time I heard of a legal handgun owner shooting someone. I'm sure it must happen but not very often in Canada. I really doubt an outright ban would have any real effect. I suppose it would effect the %10 to %20 of gun crimes that are committed with stolen handguns .I really don't have a dog in that race so it's not all that big of a deal for me. I see no reason for any Canadian to own military style weapons. Guns designed and made to kill only people belong in the hands of the military only. I think alot of the American gun idiocy makes non gun owners in this country assume it's the same here. It jades their opinion.
