  1. Happy to see some good Canadian foot soldiers like Briggs and Miller backing. I must admit though am hoping we see Alexander, Collaros, Bighill and a receiver like Bailey soon.

  4. Harcourt Fenton Mudd is a Rider fan in the 23rd century. Goes into a bar on a Federation Star Base looking to sell his season tickets to Mosaic Stadium #5 because they haven't won a championship in 300 years. No one wanted them so now he's got more tribbles than he bargained for.

  5. I think Evans' development was hampered by having Mas*holi there. Now, he's the starter, he gets all the reps as starter and the expectations are on him. I think he's better for it next season. *** I'm not slagging the NFL. I watch it each week. But, I like the CFL game itself more. I find it more entertaining. I am always amazed at the talent level in the NFL. What those top players can do is amazing.

  6. It’s funny how often debates about saving the CFL and not turning it into the NFL turn into arguments about the merits of each game and why people who pump up the NFL or talk down the CFL in comparison are right or wrong. And maybe this is the issue that we need to ignore rather than examine to start fixing the league. I wrote about looking at the Australian model of Aussie Rules vs rugby, and maybe the answer there is that they DON’T compare themselves. There is such an inferiority complex about Canada and the CFL and that Toronto isn’t big league without the NFL. Trying to measure up to the NFL seems like the wrong approach. Just accept that the NFL is bigger, louder, better athletes, provides better entertainment. So what? There is room to watch NHL and NFL in the same months without always needing to compare the two, because they are different. So let’s start treating the CFL the same way. It is a different sport than American football, is a summer league and not a fall league, there can be room for both in our world. Let it rise or fall on its own merit and stop worrying about competing with the NFL. Sell it on its own, fix the issues with marketing or costs or rules without getting caught up in “how does the NFL compare”. Now I know some will say we need to compare since the players we have are always at risk to go to the big league, so you can’t ignore it. And not comparing hockey to NFL is easy because there is no player overlap. Well, maybe stop worrying about players leaving and remember that there are a bunch of two sport athletes in baseball and football who choose one over the other and no one sweats about MLB if a draft pick chooses football instead. And CFL rosters have always managed to be stocked in the past with the NFL around. Push the uniqueness of the game here on its own without trying to show why it can one-up the NFL. Avoid the discussion of “well the NFL is better” with critics and focus on if the CFL is good enough of its own accord. Because the NFL argument doesn’t solve any problems and is just going to be a losing fight at the end of the day. Stop trying to convert NFL fans and work on making them CFL fans as well as opposed to instead.

  8. ‘Push the cap’: Glen Suitor wants Riders to load up on playmakers for home Grey Cup, even if it means ‘a little bit of a fine’ With free agency right around the corner, teams around the CFL are already wheeling and dealing to get ready for the 2022 season, but for some on the prairies, the hunt for the 109th Grey Cup means just a little more. The Saskatchewan Roughriders will host the event in Mosaic Stadium and a chance at a home Grey Cup win doesn’t come around very often. In the eyes of long-time Rider turned CFL broadcaster Glen Suitor, the team must pull out all the stops to make it happen, even if that means bending the rules. “You’ve got to load up this year if you’re Saskatchewan. If you were ever in a year where you were going to push the cap and push the restrictions and maybe even pay a little bit of a fine for going over, this is the year to do it,” Suitor told guest host Clayton Kroeker during his regular appearance on the SportsCage. “I mean, you’ve got the game and the countdown is on. We’re playing the Grey Cup in Regina this year, so you get those playmakers back, as many as you possibly can, and continue to add.” ‘Push the cap’: Glen Suitor wants Riders to load up on playmakers for home Grey Cup, even if it means ‘a little bit of a fine’ | 3DownNation (It would be everlastingly sweet if the Bombers won their third straight Cup at Mosaic Stadium)

  9. As of today, stricter regulations to enter the country. People must show proof of vaccination. EVEN PRO ATHLETES. So, this will impact every pro league. as far as the NHL goes, I just hope for the Jets sake, guys like Connor, Hellebuyck & others are fully vaxed. If he went back to San Francisco, Jeremiah Masoli can't enter the country to come in as he's unvaxed. If he wants to throw away his career, such as it is anyway with more ups & downs than a rollercoaster, then that will be his choice. I have no sympathy for him walking away from $400,000 or more per season because he's being stupid.

  10. Teams missed the entire point of how walters built the OL. Yes they went and got Stanley Bryant in free agency... but they also spent many many high draft picks on offensive linemen. They didn't go out and buy an OL, they developed one.

  11. https://3downnation.com/2022/01/14/redblacks-get-serious-about-securing-offensive-line-pay-big-bucks-for-jacob-ruby/ If these numbers are true, here is to Kyle Walters and to our players. Jacob Ruby at $165,000, Chung and Blazdek at $180,000 and Jamal Campbell at $200,000 is nuts. Especially when Yoshi and Neufeld are at $150,000.

  12. The QB options for the RB's are lessening the longer this season goes on. Their only 2 viable options are Masoli & Harris. If Masoli refuses to vaccinate then his career is over. I don't believe that Bethel-Thompson would even be considered if he was a free agent. How anyone can think of LaPo as this elite coach boggles the mind. The other thing about this article is the guy who wrote it lives somewhere in Brazil.

  13. https://3downnation.com/2022/01/15/why-signing-a-veteran-qb-isnt-essential-for-shawn-burke-the-redblacks/ Hilarious. Suddenly Caleb Evans is enough for a play off push. This type of attitude is exactly why the rbs have missed 3 straight play offs and are gonna do the same This year. Dane Evans is waay better and if the cats were ride or die with him they'd a been blown out in tor. Masoli plus Evans guided the cats to back to back gcs. The Bombers turned the corner twice when they made moves that added veteran qb depth in Nichols and then collaros. Every team in the league should seriously investigate every opportunity to add a vet qb this off season.

Isn't this like saying seatbelts kill you sheep (although there is a mountain of evidence that clearly shows seatbelts save lives), stop making seatbelts mandatory because my uncle's sister's friend's cousin knew somebody who drowned because their seatbelt malfunctioned and as a result couldn't get their seatbelt off in time to get out of their car that plunged into a riverbank.

(Not Only Racist, But Also Very Stupid) Rioters Who Stormed Capitol Called Nancy Pelosi's Office Wanting Their Stuff Back Think rioting at the U.S. Capitol is a bad idea? Try calling Nancy Pelosi’s office the next day asking to get your stuff back. According to Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), many people who participated in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection called the House Speaker’s office the next day asking about a “lost and found.” Raskin told Business Insider that people were “asking whether there was a lost and found because they forgot their phone there, or they left their purse or what have you.” The staffers answering the calls handed them off to the police, the lawmaker said, who then asked for their names, addresses and other details so they could, in Raskin’s words, “tie up those loose ends.” More than 700 people have been charged in connection to the assault on the Capitol so far. It might seem shocking that people who stormed the Capitol one day would have no qualms about calling the next day in search of their lost items, but Raskin said that points to former President Donald Trump’s complicity in the events of Jan. 6. “When they were told that they were trespassing and invading the Capitol, they said the president invited them to be there,” Raskin said. “They didn’t have any kind of subtle understanding of the separation of powers. They just thought that the number one person in the U.S. government had invited them to be there, and therefore they had a right.” “It underscores the central role that Donald Trump played in it,” Raskin added. 24. Even friesen gets it. If you asked me, a none hockey fan, If significant rule changes to the NHL would increase my interest I'd probably be inclined to say sure. Because I don't care either way. Rule changes couldn't make me less interested. It's such a stupid premise. Find former cfl fans whove fallen off and see what they have to say. Ask people who watch 1 teams games what it'd take to get them to watch more games. Ask young fans especially in ott what has pulled them In. Get useful information. This study is trash science.

  26. I guess Nic Demski, Kian Schaefer-Baker, Juwan Brescascin, Andrew Harris & Sean Thomas-Erlington didn't get much development playing 3 down football. Not to disrespect your brother but that's the dumbest take by anyone who has a kid playing football. Participation is down not because of 3 downs but because parents are afraid of brain injuries. As was stated, Special Teams are a big part of the Canadian game. No one gets less development playing 3 down football as compared to four.

    Covid-19

A local lockdown or increase of restrictions could help ease the capacity on the healthcare system. This was the same goal with the original - bending the curve. It is not just about what happens when an individual gets sick with Covid, but what healthcare is available to anyone who needs it, even with non-Covid conditions. As Mark F posted above, many procedures are being delayed and this has directly led to the death of non-Covid patients. With the province basically waving the white flag, that has signaled to all Manitobans that the time for restrictions has passed. Unfortunately everyone going about their business as normal is already causing hospitals to push capacity limits when other healthcare services are running in standby mode to deal with Covid surges. We don't have the ability to 'flex' to increase Covid capacity any more than we currently have. If we have decided to basically live as normal (besides that being a decision to basically disregard health outcomes for vulnerable individuals), it has to be paired with a healthcare plan to decide who does not receive care when the system is at capacity.

  31. ZC has it good here. A chance to three peat, a chance to win another MOP award but most importantly a chance to continue to stay protected. This is the only time in his career he’s had an elite o-line keep him healthy. I don’t see a scenario of him leaving. Like Jefferson and Jeffcoat he will sign a little under market value but he’ll still get a nice pay day he realizes the importance this stage of his career of continuity, staying healthy for a life after football, and to continue to add rings and awards to his legacy.

  32. Zack is...and knows he's a successful product of the environment he was in here, and has been kept clean, and safe, and is in the right "team" first environment...and I don't see him holding us over a barrel, and do the opposite of what guys like Willie..Biggie did in a team first move to help keep pieces in place to get to the end prize...If he made 41ok last year, and we come at him with a 475/485k salary, thats fair, and will be in line with other top end starters, save for Fajardo and everyone and their dog in and around the league see that as a sick joke...I see us getting him for 500k tops...likely just under That being said, I also see Bryant back at what he was last year, and Harris will come in at less too...all easily managed for this coming year, and If Adams is back, He probably coming in at the same as last yr too at the most...likely a slight shave as he isn't defacto #1 anymore, so won't command that. As many as we have to retain, a lot were already at top end of the pay scale and won't be requiring big bumps, and some who may be back are on the downside now of career, and are not focal points, so will be at a discount. Guys who are due a significant bump are Kenny, Stove, Desjarlais (if he doesnt sign) Kongbo (whom may be back sooner than later as he is a futures deal) and lesser extent Darby and Rose...I don't include Bryant cause he will be the same hit basically, and he always waits till we re-up key guys first as he is all about team, then sees what kind of lil extra kick he can get once Biggie and BA are wrapped up.

  36. Collaros making 410 this past year, we got a lot of value for that. I wouldn't balk at something between 450-500. That's a significant raise for him and feels like fair value. I'm not sure what his agent would say, but I really believe you have to take the Faj contract out of the equation, because everyone knows it's completely ridiculous.
