    Covid-19

Seriously, get your bogus "other side" crap outta here. Downplaying this is how it will spread further. This thing is crazy infectious, and yes the vast majority of people will not have serious issues with it, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't take it seriously. It's not bad now, but that's 2 reasons. #1 is the stats are unreliable because a country like China is very much a closed country that won't ever be truthful in order to save face and #2 because in the western world we're still in the early stages of this thing. There has been limited testing and even still you are seeing exponential spread of the thing when it gets here. You want to dismiss it and buy into the anti-intellectualism that's not OK because this affects everyone. Yeah the measures to try and limit the spread so that our health care system doesn't get overwhelmed suck for everyone, but as a society we must work together for the common good. By your attitude I'm gonna guess you're an OK Boomer.

Does this not alarm you? It is growing rapidly, and until people stay the **** home, stop traveling, and start taking this seriously, people will continue get sick and die. This isn't alarmism; this is reality. Wake up.

Hope all are doing well my fave Winnipeg Jet and Bomber fan crew. Things like this bring out the true colours in people. Some great, some not so great. We are all anxious, concerned for own inner circles. However we can’t bail on the safety and well being of others. When this all stabilizes and we come out the other side and have a moment to reflect, the people who bailed on others and only thought of themselves and their inner circles will have some explaining to do. oh and I really miss sports.

It's not hating, it's fighting ignorance. Look if it was just your own health you were putting in jeopardy no one would care, but the wilful idiocy puts everyone at risk and that's just unacceptable. Stop being a selfish jack ass and take it seriously for others. Just look at how exponential the spread is. That's why we need to take it seriously or we'll be like China where they had to put up temporary hospitals just to deal with the number of people getting sick.

  16. To treat COVID19 as just another version of influenza is inviting disaster. As has been mentioned already, the full impact of it has yet to be determined and it can easily mutate into something a lot more virulent, and may have already done so. In New Jersey, a whole family of 5 became very ill and one of them died shorty after contracting it. In the following 2 weeks, a total of 4 have died and the remaining one is critically ill. This is not supposed to happen like this, as no predisposing factors have yet been identified and not all were aged. The more people who are infected, the higher the chances of mutation. As of yesterday evening, our infection rate here in Manitoba has held at 17 for 48 hours, and all but one of the infected are in their homes, so this is great news.

FFS... Now another troll emerges in this sub-forum to spread bullshit misinformation from lousy sources. That's some embarrassing cherry-picking and actually substantiates nothing save your case of DKE. The Stat News article makes some valid points - I'll give you that. But it's also rife with whataboutism and needless deflection ignoring the reality of the situation, making the author tone deaf. It's also already out of date and the death toll has basically doubled since it was written. Strike 1. A link from Global Research links, though? That's as bad as NTZ and WUWT... Tinfoil hattery fueled by ignorance, delusion, and conspiracy theory. Not even worth entertaining such junk. FOH with that garbage. (https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/global-research/) Strike 2. And then a blog... In other words, some random person's opinion that does nothing more than conform to your lame confirmation bias. Strike 3. Kindly get the **** bent, man. You're part of the problem.

  18. Came across this while web surfing. The Hockey News has taken to the gaming world to see how the regular season would have finished up in a simulated exercise. Using EA Sports NHL 20, they have played all of the suspended games to track how teams would finish up the aborted regular season. Injuries have not been accounted for, so rioters are not completely accurate, but it is the best we have right now. As of March 11, the West wildcard race and the relevant players were as follows: Dallas 82 PTS, 69 GP (3RD Cen.) 😃 Calgary 79 PTS, 70 GP (3RD Pac.) 😃 Winnipeg 80 PTS, 71 GP (1 WC) 😃 Nashville 78 PTS 69 GP (2 WC) 😃 Vancouver 78 PTS, 69 GP 😩 Minnesota 77 PTS, 69 GP 😩 Arizona 74 PTS, 70 GP 😩 Chicago 72 PTS, 70 GP 😩 Here is how the games have gone since the season was halted: March 12 and 13 - https://thehockeynews.com/news/article/simulating-the-season-what-would-happen-if-the-nhl-continued-to-play-behind-close-doors Of note, Stars, Wild, Flames (in OT) win, Preds lose, and Coyotes beat Canucks on the 12th. On the 13th, Canucks win, Hawks lose. Canucks now in the 2 WC spot , Preds out. March 14 - https://thehockeynews.com/news/article/simulating-the-season-flyers-stay-white-hot-in-pursuit-of-top-spot-in-metropolitan-division Hawks lose and are really out of the running now, great night for the Jets who beat Calgary 7-4, and see the Preds, Wild, and Coyotes lose. Stars win. March 15 - https://thehockeynews.com/news/article/simulating-the-season-power-shifts-in-the-metropolitan-wilds-wild-comeback-puts-playoffs-in-sight Jets lose 4-2 in Vancouver, and the Wild beat the reeling Preds. Canucks now 3rd in Pac., Jets 1 WC, Flames 2 WC, with Minny 1 point out. And the Ottawa Senators are officially eliminated in the East. March 16 - https://thehockeynews.com/news/article/simulating-the-season-rangers-continue-push-for-playoff-spot-blue-jackets-get-breathing-room-in-wild-card-race Flames get a loser point, Dallas beat Arizona. And the Oilers are falling back into the wild card chase, although they still stand 2nd in the Pac. March 17 - https://thehockeynews.com/news/article/simulating-the-season-streaking-stars-in-hunt-for-home-ice-advantage-blues-get-last-minute-win Jets beat Florida 3-2 to solidify their 1 WC spot with the Flames and Wild both losing. Stars keep winning to hold on to 3rd in Cen. March 18 - https://thehockeynews.com/news/article/simulating-the-season-mcdavid-shreds-senators-as-oilers-pull-within-three-points-of-pacific-lead Canucks lose, Coyotes win. No change in the WC chase, Jets-wise. March 19 - https://thehockeynews.com/news/article/simulating-the-season-capitals-stretch-metro-lead-in-fiery-affair-game-of-the-night-debuts Flames and Preds win, Wild lose. Calgary now 3rd Pac., Jets 1 WC, Canucks 2 WC. Wild 1 point out of 8th, 3 behind Winnipeg. Preds 4 back of the Jets with a game in hand. St. Louis Blues become the first team to clinch a playoff spot. March 20 - https://thehockeynews.com/news/article/simulating-the-season-bishop-steals-one-for-stars-lightning-down-oilers-in-13-goal-thriller Surprise starter Laurent Brossoit earns a massive win as the Jets beat the Wild 5-2. Coyotes lose, Canucks and Stars win, and Oilers lose in OT. Anaheim Ducks are officially eliminated. March 21 - https://thehockeynews.com/news/article/simulating-the-season-lightning-gain-on-bruins-in-presidents-trophy-race-kings-frk-sets-nhl-record Preds win, Canucks lose, Flames get an OT loss point. and yeah the flu kills lots of people... but it's not an either or situation here, this is deaths in addition to what the flu is going to do already. Why be cavalier about that? Some people are just so selfish. Can't handle any disruption in their own lives so they will dismiss all evidence of this being a pandemic and try and justify their selfishness. To hell with those people.

And this is why it is important to take precautions now, so we don't overwhelm is system. Spread out the rate of infection so we can handle it and maybe by some time for researchers to come up with some treatments that are more effective. Really you want the thing to end quicker infect everyone and let god sort them out, but that isn't a solution so we try and slow the spread so we can manage it.

  40. Those are all obviously tragic things and nobody denies that. The world is a very cruel and unforgiving place. But this COVID-19 thing is different for a number of obvious reasons, hence how the world is responding to it. Emergency measures, border closures, shutdowns, etc. are happening because of the serious nature of this pandemic. Arguing otherwise is just tone deaf to the reality of the situation on this planet right now. To say the world's reaction this is overblown or disagree that it isn't a pandemic isn't reasonable. And resorting to whataboutism isn't reasonable, either.

  43. It may be helpful to distinguish between pandemic and epidemic. A "pandemic" means that it is widespread, whereas "epidemic" means intense and localized.

"The Covid-19 epidemic is something like sepsis: the reaction by the media and government is likely to produce more harm to societies around the globe than the virus, possibly for many years to come." Now before the haters descend like flies, here's the link to the full article from an expert that also sees the harm in over reacting to this thing. https://www.statnews.com/2020/03/16/coronavirus-serious-threat-prepare-not-overreact/ Here's some more "enlightening" reading for those of you, if there are any, that are not afraid to consider the other side of all this hype and it's repercussions. "While COVID-19 (alias nCoV-2019) constitutes a multi-billion corporate bonanza for Big Pharma, it has also contributed to precipitating humanity into a dangerous and unfolding global process of economic, social and geopolitical destabilization." https://www.globalresearch.ca/covid-19-coronavirus-a-fake-pandemic-whos-behind-it-global-economic-and-geopolitical-destabilization/5705063 "As Covid wends its way around the world, let’s detach ourselves from the hype and get some perspective. It goes both ways blue_gold_84. I'm in conversations outside of this circle of my Blue Bomber Brethren where the concensus is the opposite and they see this as a full-blown hype-job. I know you know this but it bears repeating -- not everyone willingly swallows everything that the media pushes onto our plates. The WHO is far from a pristine innocent organisation free of the political trapping of any big organisation and the influences they are subject to. Please don't confuse not buying into the hype with a cavalier attitude towards this thing. Is it serious? Of course. Do we need to take measures to stop it's spread. Yes. Is it a killer? Yes. And you can say the same for the flu which (currently) has a lot higher death count.
