I remember Walters talking early in his tenure as GM about how important it was to draft OL early. I wonder how much of this is due to a trend of the high end Canadian O Lineman getting more looks in the NFL.
  3. 5 points
That sounds bad but really if you look at it, we either haven't been in a position to do that or there wasn't an OL of value to be selected. 2025 was the only year that we may have wanted a do-over. 2022: no 1st rounder - traded to Mtl. 2023: Super weak OL class where only 1 OL was taken in the first 2 rounds (Dayton Black who's not even in the league anymore) so they made the right call there. 2024: no 1st rounder - traded to Cal. 2025: We went with Shay at #6 last year when Chris Fortin was still on the board (went to Calgary at #8). Fortin is now their starting center so given how we've used (or not used) Shay, that may have been a miss. 2026: Took Gatkuoth at #4 this year & OL Jonathan Denis went next at #5. Denis had knee issues in college & got hurt again in camp & hasn't played a down. No other OL went until we took Cline at 20 so the jury is still out on that one.

grazed both hands then hit him in the face. I like nield but that’s salt in the wound. We have Addison, and lee hull coaching wrs and execution is only getting worse. A bad drop game across the board is bad but isolated isn’t the end of the world. The fact no one has a damn clue what to do when the qb scrambles, none of the wrs can get on the same page as the qb, and none of the wrs are able to catch down field or catch short and gain yac, is really damning. The biggest coaching loss we’ve had in a long time is kevin bourgoin. He should’ve gotten the treatment and opportunities that Hogan got. What he did with our rbs then wrs was incredible. Even when we didn’t have great talent at wr, we got the most out of what we had. Now, we get the least out of what we have.
  5. It's no coincidence that the Bombers OL has fallen off when they haven't picked an OL in the first round in the last 5 drafts. It's a big difference from using first round picks on Chungh, Goossen, Desjarlais, Geoff Gray, and Dobson in the preceding years of Walters tenure.

These are young men, young men drink and party. I hate to sum up a guy's life based on an youthful act of sheer stupidity. That being said, Dalke took a life and does not deserve to be honored by any professional sports organization because of it. I don't care if he had CTE, or addiction to painkillers, or suicidal. His decision that day cost a young 22 year old man his life. The Riders need to send a message that this was not an acceptable act.

I am such a fan of Brown just from the way he took his first playing time and was absolutely God awful. Like to the point you wondered why he was even here and immediately coming back a thousand times better and more polished. The way he talks about the influence people like collaros had you can tell he is a guy who absorbs any and all advice he is given. He is right now a way better QB than collaros and should be the starter going forward. His receivers let him down big time last night but he still kept calm and made plays when it mattered.

quicker release, better accuracy by a significant margin, better footwork, better poise, better ability to move the pocket, roll/throw on the roll, better at avoiding pressure, able to run a far more diverse playbook, more athletic, drastically less turn over prone, capable of drastically better peak out put and capable of game managing neither of which maier can do.

couture was a second round pick, and chungh over rated. Wallace was a second due to availability questions, manu and cline are easy first round talents. but you’re right, we stopped investing picks in guys we thought could start and went with teams guys are the priority. that lasted entirely too long. And we never really got back to giving young high potential canadians an actual shot to take jobs. Either they got empty spots by default or ride the pine. Our canadian depth is paper thin now, and we insist on playing more canadian snaps than any other team

I like the match up though if we can get Brady going early as the run game seems to be a little weakness for that D. I also like having Dru as he can move the pocket and gets the ball away early. If he can get in sync with his recievers (they were way off in the Ottawa game) and is able to get a little time for his check downs I think we have a good chance against this Stamps D. Dedrick Mills and Adams running ability worry me more as that in the early going has been our D's achilles heel. Then it creates openings for the big plays.

We miss Darvin Adams leadership as well. Funny how The Trinity will dump receivers who still can play but hold onto rapidly fading 36 year old Canadian DT's & 41 year old OT's until their legacies are completely destroyed. Guess the players Osh likes always get the benefit of the doubt.

Yeh....Reg season success in the last few ys...even tho that is diminishing didn't equate to anything in postseason...Even the yr we won the Cup...It wasn't really due to ZC play Thank god we got Brown when we did...as he wouldnt have been available to us shortly after unless we wanted to pay a lot...Cause if both BC and Hamilton was vyingfor a QB...The price would have sky rocketed I can see...tho I Dont want to see it is teams Kicking the tire of Perkins...or us dangling him and if we could get a legit playmaker on offence for him...which probably isnt unrealistic exchange of assets...that could happen...we know that if Kyle told Osh he was looking to move ZC...Ol Mikey boy would have a BF..So Walter's if it gets to that needs to yank up his big boi GM pants and tell his HC to go lay down. He likely gives any team that needs a starter now the best chance to win now...and used right, on a team with actual weapons, would prob be very successful That being said if Dru keeps on winning...and with this lineup and being only 29...I'm hitching my wagon to him on a 3 yr deal and building a team around him moving forward and be shopping TE as I sure some clown show management group would pay handsomely for him.....I dont care about a Canadian Pivot any more than I care about getting kicked in the Junk...and really...we all know ZC is done here...if not already this yr...definitely next and we dont have the time to wait on TE to develop...if he ever will, while we already have a starter in the room...who we likely extend on a nice team friendly fair deal for both sides. The fact not one team in the NFL saw the idea of picking him up and being a viable QB...not a starter but a viable QB2 to develop...or could even be developed tells me more than I need to know. And from what I have seen to date...He is a long way off from being a reliable starter...if he ever is...Big Arm...doesn't equate to a big impact...we've seen that tons of times up here

Some QBs throw a nice ball and quietly put up good numbers but lose, some QBs put the team on their back down by 17 points in the 3rd Q and elevate their game when it counts and win. I know which guy I would rather have 7 days a week and twice on Sunday. TB wants to narrow down the conversation to just stats for a position that is 20% stats and 80% intangibles. It's why wins matter for QBing far more than the stat line. You have good QBs like VA, for instance, who light it up but still lose. Why? They miss the one key component that every great QB needs...being clutch. Take a guy like Trevor Harris. He didn't have a Grey Cup until last season despite being one of the most statistically impressive QBs of the last decade. It wasn't until he found a way dig deep enough in the big moments, a skill or desire he didn't have until he realized he was running out of time then the light bulb went on in his head. Dru, early in his career, learned to seize the big moments just like his mentor Zac. Throw for show, win for dough. Lots a QBs worry about their stats instead of going out and leaving it on the field for the win. The guys that will drag a team to a win are more valuable. I will take a gutsy QB that only cares about winning and can rise to the occasion over the statistical darling any day of the week. So TB wants to know which QB played better? The answer is so obvious I can't believe he asked the question.

Winning the game literally is where fundamental QB comparion starts and ends. It's why Ottawa is 0-6 and we aren't. It's why Tom Brady is who he is. It's why Steven Jyles was who he was despite "sexy" stats. You don't win without a capable quarterback - Especially a QB who can't make plays in the fourth quarter. When we absolutely needed a play, Dru made a play. He did the same thing a couple years back when Zach spotted Edmonton roughly a 3 TD lead on the road. Those are the players a locker room rallies around. Can you get the job done when it matters the most? Dru has shown in his time here, he can. This really isn't difficult to understand.

yep, from what i’ve heard it’s us against the world in his qb room and it he keeps you around he has your back. they also seem to scout mental fits to the dd mold really well. He produced almost exactly the same amount of yards with drastically less help from his wrs, and a worse game plan. He also protected the ball better (despite all the tips and drops that put the ball at risk), and did it against frankly a better D. Some truth to this, I hate qb wins as a stat. But what dru did is when the game was on the line and his back to the wall, he turned it up and produced. Those 2 point conversion shoot outs was basically him throwing guys open faster than the D could react. Major props to brown for that. Another underrated asset that dru brown brings, which maier and zach lack, is he doesn’t throw hospital balls. He’s one of the best in the league at protecting his wrs with placement and leading. Brown has what nichols had, but with a drastically better set of tools. iirc, dru has only lost 1 start as a bomber. Also 17 td passes to 3 ints. 5 years of actual playing and he has never had as many picks as tds thrown. He does a tremendous job of using placement, timing, release and zip to take the danger out of a lot of routes. 20 years ago? i can feel my self rot with that fact. One of my all time favorite bomber plays though

as the founder and president of the plop haters club back in the day it is painful to admit, but I agree. I actually think browns skill set would compliment lapos system really well. so would our tiny wr core. it should’ve come at the end of last season tbh. Play into a spot, sit on the ir, or pack it in. that’s a discussion the mafia should’ve had internally. but they still won’t. ever since schoen fell off. he was the straw that stirred the drink. bailey set the tone and did a lot for the culture too.

He killed another driver. Maybe it's time we learned about the other driver. I don't know his skin colour, religious beliefs or whether he was born in Canada (in response to JBR's earlier comments upon hearing a brown guy took out a Rider player on the highway). I'm sure he was a hero to his family & friends. Jared Dalke killed another human being by making a stupid & selfish decision. Vince McMahon doesn't look so stupid now with his premature tribute to Chris Benoit & the sharp criticism he took after details of his death & the murder of his family came out. His name & menory have been expunged by the WWE. The Buffalo Bills have decided not to honour OJ Simpson at their new stadium. Should Dalke be treated the same way by the Riders if the circumstances of the accident details are true? This is still a tragedy for everyone involved like family, friends, coaches & teammates. Matter of fact, I feel for his immediate family. They must be horrified by news of the accident details.

I could see manu being tossed early, if it’s too early i think he will get another look. Hes got almost no chance in detroit. Agree on wallace. I wouldn’t mind seeing him at rt and Broxton kick over to lt. Then if you get vanterpool in at G, just need C worked out. Agree on maz too, he’s got that nasty grit you need inside. Hes a mauler who loves the battle. If vanterpool isn’t ready he’d be good to go back to. Or try to mold into a C.
  40. Heard yesterday morning out of Regina a Rider player had been in a wreck and that it was likely the Rider players fault, didn't know who until afternoon. Then a lot of locals went off on a "brown guy" taking out a Rider in a wreck....immigrants don't know which side of the road to drive on etc. Sickening ****. Sadly a lot of pro athletes in contact sports spend a lot of their career/life blasted out of their mind on weed and analgesics. There's also that feeling of invincibility. In communities I'm involved with there's a lot of guys who cause carnage like this who die young and are looked at as heroes, awards named after them etc. Always kind of makes me sick. Would be nice if eventually we get to a place where we can talk about how irresponsible drinking/substance abuse and driving are. Use these situations as the cautionary tale and don't bury the reality of what happened.

play off zach save for like 2 games has been the biggest problem on the team. Zach the past two years was putrid. This year, he hasn’t been a problem even once. A big part of that is we fell into dru brown at exactly the right time. if we didn’t, zachs health issues would be ruining this season before we even get to ld.

yeah collaros has been an issue for this team at times. Not the biggest issue or only issue, but he doesn't have the same abilities to extend plays or escape pressure he used to have that other guys maybe do possess.
