  1. Guys, this is going to be shocking so please sit down before you read any further. Jamie Nye has picked the Bombers to lose and the Riders to win this week on his cfl.ca weekly predictor. I hope none of you were injured after collapsing from the shock.

  2. I wouldn't start Mitchell based on salary. Maybe you give him an extended look because of what he did in the past and maybe you think he had a bad camp, in that case I'd take off sterns. I wouldn't take off wheatfall for him.

  3. I'm interested to see what Hogan does. Streveler has a really quick release and to me he looked a lot more confident in his pre-snap reads in pre-season. I don't think we'll see him hold the ball very long. But he's not like Collaros where he's always looking vertical. Very different skill sets as passers.

  4. I'd put Montreal on top of both.

  5. We can debate starting 3 American OL until Nye picks the Bombers to win. But at the very least, it shows that team priorities are being ranked appropriately. Pass pro / OL are # 1, then build the rest of the roster based on that.

  6. Context does not equal excuses. I'm not agreeing with others who think Ford is a waste and Strev is great. Time will tell. But your argument is horribly flawed and takes away from the point you're trying to make while making you look like you don't know what you're talking about at all. You're telling me Roberts is an all time great running back? When did he win MOC and MOP in the same year like Brady? How can an all time great RB not have any GC rings? Brady is much better than Roberts. (WITH CONTEXT THIS MAKES NO ******* SENSE).

  7. Had a good laugh reading the mouth breathers over on RIderfans declare over the past few weeks that the Bombers are due for a let down because our roster is aging out. Then one of them posts up the average age of each team and the Bombers avg is 28.3 years old and the RIders 30.3. A full two years average age older than us and by far the oldest roster in the league. Now they are declaring that experience is very important and it is the reason they will beat us. You can't teach that kind of flip flop to any fan base but the Riders, because math is just random numbers to them.

  8. They'd go 5 and 2. So your 5 Canadian starters with Corcoran, Peterson, Cobb, Chris-Ike and your extra OL as backups. 2 Canadian defensive players need to be on field every snap. So it's not too bad. They could use K Wilson or Jefferson as DNA's and sub them in for one of those Canadian spots 25 snaps too.

  9. It's weird how ZC's 2nd half and TD/INT ratio dramatically improved in the 2nd half of the season once his receivers began gaining chemistry with him, and his OL settled in and started protecting him. You can throw the best ball in the world but if the receiver zigs when he is supposed to zag your INT numbers are gonna go through the roof. Not saying that it explains away everything but it was a huge factor in ZC's first half. The other big factors were his protection and Buck being too stubborn to change the game plan to accommodate for rookie mistakes and the OL not gelling right away.

  11. I guess they forgot to mention 39 year old Trevor Harris, 36 year old Michal Johnson, 35 year old Jermarcus Hardrick and the fact the majority of their free agent signings are all 32 year old plus players, hilarious. I love the young talent we brought in, in the past year plus, the silver lining of all those injuries last season was to give some of our younger talent the chance to develop.

  12. Chis Streveler hasn't started 19 cfl games like Tre Ford. Just a handful. In that time, Ford has shown that he can't read a defense if his life depends upon it. If his first read is covered then he's lost & runs around like a chicken with his head cut off praying one of his receivers will play the scramble drill & get open. Of course one always does & it saves his bacon but that kind of play is unsustainable. That happened on one play on Saturday. Then the next play he throws a high pass & nearly gets his receiver killed. Another had his head taken off. Other passes were overthrown or in the dirt like he has no clue how to throw the ball. Ford looks the same as he did the last two seasons. Like Little Boy Lost out there. There's been zero improvement in his play. By now, he should be making strides & showing improvement but he isn't. That should be concerning to the Elks as well as their fans. He really should be playing 100% RPO as that's the only way he has a chance to be even a little bit successful. Yet, they expect him to throw from the pocket & it's a disaster. I don't know if Ford plays video games in meetings or is too lazy to study but he appears to have learned nothing in all the meetings & tutelage he has had since he was drafted by Edmonton. I'm glad he's in Edmonton & not here. He can stay there. Streveler was never allowed to be a regular CFL qb under Buck Pierce who made him a role playing qb nearly killing him by being a run first qb. The game vs Ottawa last season at home showed what kind of coordinator Buck was the way he played Streveler & I'm glad he's gone.

  13. 2 days out from game 1, this is how the roster is looking. 3 QBs, 23 Americans, 22 Canadians, and 2 Globals for a total of 50 players. 3 Americans will have to sit, plus 2 Canadians or 1 Canadian and 1 Global.

  14. Friction? Based on that. I’m generally curious. I have listened to Hogans interviews and what O’Shea has had to say about Hogan and I’m impressed with his mindset and philosophy. Now that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s going to be the next hot shot coordinator, but it doesn’t give me reason to understand why the Bombers brass are so high on him and why he got the opportunity to run the offense.

  15. Interesting to hear big Kev talk about how much better this years play book is compared to last. Especially from a year 2 guy. Seemed to be a lot of friction between Buck and the offence last year. Zach had a few eye raising comments in the off season about relationships with oc position and expectations. Similarly, Jackson’s comments about his relationship with zach, and how he views coaching QBs (not micro managing) sounds like a lot of his hiring was that fit both with hogan as an ast but also with the room.

  20. yeah based on performance...of they have to eat his bonus and get rid of him at somepoint...so be it Wheatfall has earned a spot...the 5th guy ..whoever that may be has not...and likely wont get a lot of balls anyway.....unless they do the interesting thing and dress Cooley...You would still have Cobb and Corcoran (I assume as a "true" receiver of need be....and the options you could do with him as the 5th would be an interesting...and surely productive thing...Let Cobb do returs...mainly punts, and also have MCI back there on kicloffs ala Augustine...A 220 pound guy with 4.4 speed with a head of steam on a kick return....could reap nice dividends When Logan is back...he's your returner and also slides into Colley's spot and he's gained some nice live game reps We save a DA spot and that is likely Person's ticket onto the roster....which would be huge... That's what I would do anyway for likely the first 2 weeks at minimum we need 2 import DT's to rotate...or you will be seeing wayy too much Thomas...Schmeck...and lord help us if its Kornelson too....guy has shown nothing in 2 camps now....no faith in him at all and not sure why he was kept...well all 3 really...scoop Samson back off the Hammer PR and he can back up Lawson...and keep developing Davis until we either draft a stud....or sign one in FA And yeah...even without Weitz getting hurt Bailey I am sure would have bumped him off the roster...Wietz offers us nothing that a Canadian rookie LB would...or DB.....Also Bailey isnt the run of the mill token global...he's legit and it's pretty much like getting a rookie import DE on roster....

  21. Ford now has the #1 spot as his in Edm. it is his team to run......from week one, he IMO looked bad, he did not show any pocket comfort, or great reads and throws, what he did show me is that he is one heck of amazing athlete, he is elusive, he is fast and he run, he can make something out of nothing when he breaks contain. The sample size is too small, but as other have stated he needs to show he can be more than a great athlete. Good teams will contain him and make him throw from the pocket....can he do that.....I am not sure he can Stervelor has never been handed a team as a clear #1...this is the biggest flaw in your argument, you can't compare the franchise guy, the undisputed #1 QB of a team to another team's back-up....Now will Strev ever be a true anointed #1 in the CFL, only time will tell, he has a steep mountain to climb for that to happen. Has he been a perfect QB here, no he hasn't, if he had he would be starting for us or someone else The stats you showed are facts, neither has been very good, so many variables in those as others have pointed out, but the biggest key here is Tre is leading his team, he is the face he is the undisputed #1 as opposed to Strev. who is the number 2 and from all accounts had to show and earn that spot by beating out two veterans and Wilson...so to your point then is Wpg. smarter than Edm. to start the proven guy........

  22. Wilson is a good player, just always injured. It's not that he is starting so much as it's using a roster spot on a guy you’re unlikely to be able to rely on all season at the expense of someone you might be able to.

  23. I wouldn't go that far...Strev had really 1 season to play as an actual QB...his rookie yr...where he had 5 actual starts...looking at his season numbers of 18 games is hard to project a full season of starts but if you just used his 5 starts and did it they project well for a raw rookie..had 7tds to 2 int's...ran for just under 300 yards and 4 tds...so not too shabby...yr 2 they already started gimicking him but even then he was key to us winning...when he came back that's when Buck went off the rails... Even tho it was just Preseason he looked like a guy who can get you wins and play even in a vanilla scheme and for a lot of it with guys who got cut...I will reserve judgment until I see him after B.C game and others he gets into.

  24. There's been a lot of buzz about the Bombers being worse because they're older... And it's from people who only see the "known names"... Yes, Zach and Willie and Stan are older... But we got a lot younger in other areas.

  25. I could see Ayers sitting too. Wilson needs to sit but will not.

  26. The big outlier is Wilson. At least Thomas will be relegated to a sub role this year. I think the likely sub-outs will be Vaval/Mitchell (likely Vaval), Woods/Adams (Woods), and Ayers/Jjones (Ayers). If we aren't starting Wallace, I think he is a strong candidate to come off the bench, as well as Kornelson in general. Novak should be a strong candidate to sub out as well, but I don't think he will be. Otherwise, I think Bailey for Weitz has a good chance of happening, or Weitz for Wallace. I don't think it'll be optimal, but I think it'll be a solid lineup, especially for us breaking camp. I'm not sure using a DI on Mitchell to return over Cobb is great usage. Or just starting Mitchell over Sterns. I'd much rather have Bailey and Person on the AR, and I'd bump Birdges, too. But starting slow with changes isn't terrible. I think we need to see a good bit from a few guys early in this season to keep younger guys off the roster. Vaughters, Woods, Wilson, Jones, Bridges, and Parker, namely. I like some of those guys, but they have a good push coming from behind on the depth chart.

  29. Some guys have it & others don't. From what I've seen, Ford doesn't. Great athleticism will only take you so far. At some point, he has to show that he belongs in the CFL as a starter. Or he'll be demoted to short yardage. Then out the door. Mark Killam is in his first year & I'd say he has a year & a half to show he is an actual CFL Head Coach as well. He doesn't need to be anchored down with a 7 game losing streak his first year just because he wants a starting Canadian qb. I can almost guarantee the clock is ticking on Ford.

  30. Close enough that I think it was the right call & it was targeting. Refs have to call that on the field. They don't have the benefit of replays slowing it down.

  31. Can see it being a quad strain...not uncommon for a back to get one from running hard...deaccellerating and stopping Can be way less a nuisance and ongoing thing as a hammy too...so if that the case it's a good thing

  36. Ford was drafted in 2022, 4 games into his rookie season Chris Jones moved him ahead of Nik Arbuckle as the Elks starting QB, he's been up and down ever since, but 3 years later he still plays like a rookie.

  38. Yes, we did it last year. But mind you, we are starting 3 Canadian OL and we have 3 regular Canadian starters in D - Thomas, Kramdi and Ford. Also at some point last year we started Gauthier and Hubert and started 3 Canadian receivers - Demski, Woli and Murphy/Clercius Losing 2 Canadian starters is big a challenge this year.

  39. We did it last yr several times so it's doable With Parker.. Holm.. Nichols..Bonds..Griffin and whomever the CB is gonna be....Hallett...Shay...Smith...we don't really need another DB technically..more than enough coverage...so in my opinion Vaval is a luxury moreso than a dire need. Anyway they slice it they aren't gonna leave Griffin off the roster..hes to valuable and versatile for what JY does Have Cooley as the 5th reciever..doesn't need to be used exclusively out of backfield...nor does BO as we have ran him out wide as a reciever and in the slot...creates a lot of options for us.

  40. Goes along with the gunslinger mentality, some QB's are looking for the big play and interceptions don't bother them, BLM, Chad Kelly and Collaros just keep chucking regardless, some QB's like Matt Nichols and Trevor Harris, hate throwing interceptions and avoid taking chances.

  44. I think that would be a good move to, I like Vaval as a db and a returnman. I think he's in a spot where that wont happen till the KR and or Bridgesc craps out. Imo, they are locked in on vanterpool too. he's been with the 1s most the whole time. I would go Bailey in for sure, I think they might go with wallace over the 2nd global as a 7th ol though because we like that and we have run really thin at DL especially imp dl for the past few years. I don't think Weitz brings any thing in particular. He should be a warm global body incase some crazy rash of injuries happens and not much more. Id much rather have cobb return and cooley DI to be used situationally and rotationally. Maybe that happens eventually.
