  2. I'll disagree on that. For sure any player has room for growth, but he's shown those two things any chance he's got to. Starting with the road game in Calgary when he caught a huge first down from Streveler on a 2nd and long when the receiving corps was pure chaos down our top two Americans. He played that role well when Wolitarsky was out last year. But our American receivers were mostly garbage last season. Wilson had some big games and otherwise was a disappearing act. No one else was even average in their role. He actually only had 2 games without a catch last year, which he didn't start. And he caught at least one pass for a first down in the majority of games he played. A lot of those being the 7 yard pass, get the 2-3 yards after that to convert. Clercius had the best percentage of targets caught of our regular receivers last season. I expect him to get 4-5 targets a game, and be in the range of 3-4 catches a game for 40-45 yards.

  3. That brings value in keeping the return team off balance, too. Teams can't just run to a spot 40 yards downfield based on where their returner is set up / reading. Medlock was fantastic at recognizing when a KR was cheating to one side too much, then smashing a low screamer away from him, ending up with a massive punt bounce n roll for 70+ yards.

  4. Key in traffic or with contact not jarring the ball out...guys like him who catch like that just pick ball out of space...its not hitting them...Lawler did it too...rarely seen the ball separated from him when being hit as he caught it...and some catches u were just like...wtf??!? Haa..big sexy ball grabber

  6. Placement be damned i want a guy who can occasionally boom one to flip the field. What's his nuts has no hope of ever doing that.
    4 points
  7. Yeah Clercius just looks like a guy that gets it... booch has been beating the drum but the hand catching... that's just amazing. Nothing more frustrating than receivers who catch with their bodies. A big strong dude like clercius just grabbing balls with authority is going to have success. I love wolitarsky but totally OK with them giving clecius the chance. He's done nothing but impress.

  8. Sounds like the 1s at camp today were Demski, Schoen, Clercius, White Jr and Wheatfall... Fwiw.

  9. Evans looks the part...and has solid background Punter guy looks...well like a gimmicky experiment...which failed...best talent should play and first look was pretty obvious...interesting how his second game looks...

  11. Jake began the season getting the majority of reps and that completely reversed by the end of the season. IF Lawson comes back with the same game he left with, I would think that Jake will have a much reduced role in our defence. Of course, that likely takes a few weeks as Lawson just got back. Lawson will 100% have to show he is fully recovered, however, I see no indication anywhere that he isn't. Yea....not willing to hand anyone a job yet, but if he just does what he did last game I can't see how we can justify keeping Sheahan over him.

  12. medlocks punting was never his strength though. Sheehan is a punter. He should be better than a guy who did everything else.

  15. Yeah I seen a lot of progress in Clercius already last yr...and he doesn't need to be a yac machine...Woli wasn't... He is a big target and knows how to use his body to position himself to the ball...is a hand catcher...prob best pure hands on team and his hand strength is insane...perfect for that conversion type guy and getting dirty yards in traffic If u get chance watch some practices and if u able to get close to field...listen...guys like him you barely hear ball...if at all when it hits his hands...big sign look for in a pure pass catcher... He also made some plays last year after the catch where he made yards and destroyed would be tackles...he is gonna be a big piece and guy ZC will be looking for

  16. I do agree that imp wr is very talent deep. But it’s still really hit or miss among top talents. I think dbs are next most replaceable after RBs, then wrs. Imp guards would be really high but no one really uses them. I don’t like the crazy expensive wr core approach. I get keeping a guy like schoen, but after that to sustain success you really gotta find guys cheap and develop them. He was crazy green and played a lot as a rookie. 2nd year is big for Canadians and wrs. What I saw is he did a fantastic job of playing with in him self and not trying to do too much. Usually you see kids trying to cheat or look down field before the ball arrives. Clercius played like a seasoned pro and did every thing we could want. If he played a premium pass catcher spot he could be a volume guy. The fact we moved on from woli when he wasn’t even paid that much says a whole lot. Most loves woli. True, if they think they can turn guys around they will bring them in. There was a Time when Wj was considered problematic. If they didn’t believe in the guys ability to be a fit in the locker room and market they wouldn’t. They don’t just ignore guys with a past.

  17. To be fair we haven’t had much competition at P. Evan’s is ridiculously good though. We drafted him I can’t imagine we won’t play him if he kills it in camp. Thing is he can kick for 45-50 with drastically better hang time than Sheahan. And with less shanks. I think Evan’s would have to really crap the bed to not make the team.

  18. Dear God, i just realized Callaros has not thrown a TD pass in 4 of our last 5 Grey Cups. Christ, if he's even average we would have won 4 in a row. Great now ive made myself sad and angry. Fired myself back up all over again.

  22. Hi @DTonOB What's the scoop on Jarious Jackson, will he still be joining the club as the QB coach? or is that not gonna happen anymore? Did he butt heads with anyone on the coaching staff?

  23. Maybe it's selective memory but I always feel like we punt near midfield and somehow the opposition ends up getting it on their own 45ish rather then deeper in their own end. I can't actually remember seeing a Sheehan punt and thinking "wow that was a good deep punt".
    2 points
  24. Punting from the end zone or deep in their own end is a no win situation, even if the punter boots it 55 yds. it's still likely to end up near the 40 yd. line and points will be given up. In that situation it's easy to blame the punter, but it's 100% the offences fault for not moving the ball out from the shadow of their goalposts.

  25. Clercius...picking machine!!
    2 points
  26. Ya that's the big situation that hurts us with Sheehan. If we're backed up with little time left in the half or game, the other team is pretty much always in FG range after the punt because they are catching it in our end. No change of punting out of trouble.

  27. Yep, and given he is just returning to practice now, It might take a bit for him to get his cardio to 100% and the rust off. We will see. But I am confident he will get back to that point and be the guy he was previously. It might hamper his ability to take the next step forward this year though.

  28. If Lawson is healthy again....he's easily in the top 2 or 3 national DT's in the league....and if stays healthy this yr likely stakes a claim as one the best.....Playing behind any other Cdn DT on our roster would be a joke And agree...as for all spots hope none are just handed/rewarded.....but if Evans does what he did again....handles the holder job with no issues for Castillo.....that change has to be made

  30. Some times people kick addictions and pick up other problems, other times the addiction can be the side effect of another problem too. We all know he’s as talented as it gets, and we know he’s prone to saying stupid stuff. He might be out of football if we cut him, so he better have his head on straight now. tbh Lawler has a lot in common with him. Some stupid mistakes, dui/passport etc. struggled to be consistent/on the field. But lawler, is a hell of a competitor. He says the right things to media and does the right things on the field. Mitchell needs to find that dog, and keep it close all year.

  31. In the interview he did in the off-season with Ed Tait, Mitchell mentioned he had an alcohol problem in college. He said he put it behind him, but I said the same thing earlier this morning.....so it may not be true at all.

  32. I don't think it's anything about butting heads. He was excused for family reasons, though I am wondering if he is going to be up here with us this year or at all now too.

  33. Yup. I couldn't tell if Osh misunderstood or was just being difficult. The question as I understood it was "in the interest of avoiding injuries, shouldn't the refs limit 'let it play out' to close calls instead of super obvious dead balls?".

  34. Booming punts is not something you really want to see often because most guys CAN actually outkick coverage if were to let them, however, when we are punting from our end zone and simply can't give up the single because of the scoreboard it would be really nice to have a guy who can uncork a 60 yarder and just pray that our cover team can do something about the return.

  38. Decent yardage well placed with good/great hangtime to allow our punt return guys to do their jobs is all I ask.

  39. Meh, goes to show Import receivers are more dime a dozen than RB's are now, no need to spend big money in FA to bring in mid-tier receivers cut from other teams when you can raise your own crop. Reward the ones that succeed like Schoen and reward the ones that grow into the role like Myron Mitchell and Wheatfall have. D. Mitchell is getting beat out by multiple contestants, don't expect they should reward him by cutting other players that have out competed and performed better in the limited time allowed for evaluation.

  41. Case wasn’t in the first game, maybe he had to return home? Other wise we could’ve stuck some one on the ir who we know is gonna make it and doesn’t need the reps. Nah Lawson was taking equal reps with Thomas and more down the stretch before his injury. They paid him top tier money, he’s likely gonna play more snaps than Jake.

  42. That's a paperwork move, I'm sure, but it's awesome to have Lawson back anyhow. Hope he's 100%. We need that guy.

  43. Sounds like he has his head on straight based on this article. He's not blowing off his slow start to camp and giving himself a pass. He's been putting in extra work and listening to the coaches and it's starting to show according to MOS. https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/2025/05/26/catching-his-stride

  45. I took it as a mental competitive drive thing. Some guys are slow starters even in pro sports. It isn’t good, you’re right. Might not be the end of the world, but I think he needs to go out and take a starting job from some one Friday. It’s also one of those things you shouldn’t publicly admit.

Did we? I dunno. I liked they didn’t trade the 1st. he should win. Jets were president trophy winners. The other 2 are in no tax states Florida and Texas. Players don’t have Florida or Texas on no trade clauses. Chevy should win.
