  1. 2019 playoff run D was far superior to swaggerville.

  2. So much this. Been following this team since I was a kid in the 70s. As a kid there were many heartbreaks with teams that had so much potential but came up empty. It might have been easier to take had the potential not been there...but the squandering of potential is always sad. John Daly comes to mind. So much potential and talent seemingly squandered. I came into this season filled with that notion of a team with so much potential to right the wrong of last year's GC. The re-signing of important vets...the return of Lawler...the potential of another Wpg born back, etc... Instead we're getting this schizophrenic team who doesn't seem to know who it is from week to week...world beaters or potential-squanderers? I can take the down/rebuilding years...it's all part of the game...but watching these guys come out flat, giving up early leads and either having to scrap back to win...or lose...to inferior teams really p*sses me off. Combine that with some of the most incompetent officiating I can remember and I'm a frustrated camper. I'll be the first to admit I don't have the football acumen that some on here do but I can't help but lay the blame for this frustration at the feet of coaches. Yeah professionals should be able to get themselves fired up/prepared for games but damn it, it's up to coaches to MAKE SURE that's happening. If the only thing firing you up for a game is losing the previous game...well that doesn't seem like a recipe for success

Basically this is it..and it's not wholesale changes and extreme measures that are needed...but issues serious enough they can't be left as it...14 games in now...and it's apparent as ever...if not worse...

  9. I know Haba was on the 6-game but his play was indicative of why you don’t let new talent languish on the PR. He brought the energy, speed and effort but his lack of experience was exposed. He abandoned contain to try and rush up the middle several times, leading to Powell running for easy yards and 1st downs. He should rotate in the rest of the season so he’s better prepared come playoffs. And, for the love of god can the team get a real nose tackle… the Nevis/Stove factor is missing so badly every Bomber fan sees and knows it. Boudreau’s been with the Bombers a long time and obviously been highly successful. That said, what team allows their ST coordinator to cede mid-field starts to the opposing O for 14 straight games… like wtaf. Offense needs to add back some damned ball control. 10 minutes into the 1st quarter is not the time to abandon Oliveira. Find different and better ways to get him the ball.

We need to play the full 60 minutes to win & we didn't do that again yesterday. I'm the biggest Collaros fan, but he hasn't looked right for about half of the season & it started before the hit that took him out. Too many picks. Gotta fix that. We need an upgrade at returner. Waiting for Grant will cost us. Biggie is on the back end of his career. Still a decent MLB who can cover side to side, but not the exceptional MLB he used to be. It's looking like our dominant days are coming to an end. Toronto has caught up and BC's not too far behind.

  11. LONG POST - Day After analysis: Evan Holm is a real find for Winnipeg. Otherwise not too much to get excited about from yesterday vs Cats. Slow start as the team seemed unprepared to play football again. Field position due to lack of a return game came back to bite us - again. Embarrassing to think Legs out-kicked Castillo who has missed a few this season. No doubt wind was a factor - advantage homie, but still. Interceptions: 2 of the 3 stupid picks you can pin directly on Collaros (Oshea put one on the receiver). You get the feeling this season that Zach, along with his panic and happy feet, has regressed. What’s going to happen next season if we let Dru Brown get away? Love Zach as a leader but you have to consistently execute on the field - especially with the best receiving corps in the league. (Yes, there were one or two drops but the only one that really hurt us was the one by Sheed). Otherwise we saw too many long desperation throws into multiple coverage that were low percentage throws that missed the target. That is poor execution and play calling. It feels like like we never know each week if we’re going to get the good Zach or the bad Zach. Other problems: spotty pass rush pressure and no adjustments to the short-mid pass game Cats successfully schemed for. Defence really got exposed there and failed to adjust. Some pressure, any pressure, on Powell might have helped but we did a poor job (as we have all year) of disguising our blitz). After the Cats stuffed Oliveira and we got behind in the score (thanks a lot Winston Rose and Demerio Houston) we were predictably forced to move away from the running bully-ball style attack which has been our bread and butter. As an armchair QB I think we gave up the run way too soon. Again, seems to be a bit of panic both in the offensive play calling by Buck and execution-wise by Zach. I noticed several times this season Willie J and Bighill have gone AWOL, why? So, to sum up, happy honker award to Holm. But the problems seem to be recurring and multiplying. Toronto and BC will be watching the film from yesterday. Any team with decent coaching will have figured us out.

He is also whiffing on a lot of stops too and sometimes arriving a step late. He's not totally washed yet but he's also not the same guy he was a couple years ago.

  14. Once again....we start slow and deep in our zone.....the Cats start at centre field ....Do the coaches not see that our special teams are crap....or is it just not considered a priority.....We are a better club than what showed yesterday...talent wise.....the otherwise is a fail.....IF we don't find a way to put more pressure on the qb. it's going to be a long last part of the season....We're turning uknown qb.s into stars ....the poor play of the secondary except for a couple of guys, has to change....What's the latest word on Ford....we could use a player of his calibre to shake things up.....Zack had a 50/50 game ....looked good on some nice bombs but then regressed into throwing pics......Poor effort let a lesser club walk away with the 2 pts......and I didn't see a Cup winner in Ham. yesterday

  16. Which is coaching. It seems incredible that a first place team at 10-4 could cause such consteration among its fabase as most teams would be happy with that record but let's face it. Too many huge hills & deep valleys. There's no consistency this season. We're a real Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde as well as bad road team.

  17. I think a few of those decisions could have been made this past off-season. A little bit of a cruise control vibe to the team like they just have to turn it on for playoffs. The whole going easy one week and responding the next is kind of a tough one to me. But doesn't seem like the organization seems to fret about it. Like if we got a rematch with Hamilton next week we'd probably win by 40. But maybe we can play with that energy the first time. Don't really have the depth this year to pick up the slack.

  18. Is Jamal Parker really the best we can produce as a kick returner? Night and day difference between the D Line with Jeffcoat and the D Line without Jeffcoat. Collaros with another INT to a linebacker he didn't see. Uh oh. Use Brady Oliveira maybe? Our defense was just the worst. Too many times you'd see 2 DBs in the same area and no one taking the wide open guy. Overall the boys had their heads up their asses today

  19. Bailey was amazing on that jet sweep off tackle. I love when he runs that instead of wide out. Wj really suffers when we don’t have a nose or jj. Or a rotation. I don’t blame him as much. We need to atleast have a rotation to enable him to do his best.

  20. I mentioned it a few times and questions why it was taking so long to adjust and / or fix the problem. It's football. 12 guys run down field and the CFL is over 100 years old. Not much new to see here. Placement, hang time are not new terms.

  21. Bottom line: ZC needs the kind of pass pro they had when he first arrived in Winnipeg.
    3 points
  22. I felt there was nothing wrong with the receivers. Just no run game and collaros trying to score 6 every throw.

  23. Set up is not totally dissimilar, just that Bennett is not anywhere close to kongbo in terms of effectiveness, no one else on the roster is as effective as Hansen and we have no one nearly as good as Stove on the roster. Talent injection please. Not all 2019, specifically the end ofnseason playoff run D. That was something special.

  24. 2021 D was the best maybe in the history of the WBB FC, never mind 2019....

There are simply adjustments that aren’t being made and something needs to be done about it. We need the staff to have a long, hard look at what happens within their offices because I see so many deficiencies that are coming directly from our coaching staff. There’s not much that they’re doing right now that I care for - the preparation, execution and player management is all leaving a ton to be desired and they’re smart enough to realize it. How are they going to address it?

  28. Based on how we've played on the road this season I'm not hopeful about our prospects to end up 1st in the West or get to the Grey Cup.

  29. Dyce handed the game over with that long FG attempt when he had control of the game. Give the Lions the ball inside their 10 needing to score twice inside 2 mins. Game over. Punt a rouge by accident. They need a TD, 2 point convert and FG to tie you. Opened the game up with the missed FG they didn't cover.

  30. Thanks for nothing OTT you absolute clowns.

  31. With like 10 minutes left they decide to try and run out the clock with run plays. I thought our play calling sucked.

  32. I'd like to see Hall start more aggressive and scale back than start so passive in terms of coverage and try to scale up the aggression. There are known entities for schemes and QB's and then there's guys like Powell and Crum. Force them to make throws, don't make it simple, don't sit back. No reason to fear their arms until they make you.

Kolankowski is not an all-star, just a journeyman centre but when the rest of the O-line is playing well as a unit, he is adequate. The problems are in the centre of the D-line and right side of the defensive backfield. Linebacking is a concern- Bighill is getting older and slower and Kramdi has the physical abilities to play the spot but not the experience and maybe not the instincts. Richie Hall's philosophy seems to be to let the opposition show their hand and then adapt, but that does not seem to lend itself to playing from behind. O'Shea needs to be questioned about some of his personnel decisions or we will stumble through the rest of the season and have a one-game post-season.
    3 points
  35. I believe you when you say he's more physical, he has demonstrated that, but Kola is also a NI, that's who he'd be replacing, there is no added flexibility unless I'm missing something (totally possible)
    3 points
  36. I don't see any risk in dressing that returner they just signed for a look. Maybe put in a play or two for him on O too. They don't even use Jackson on O. Losing a 260 lb guy chasing kicks shouldn't hurt if you keep Parker on to do that as well.
    3 points
  37. Yeah pin them or even if you get the rouge you make it 11.

  38. What a terrible decision to try that

  39. Too mad to produce any 3 "stars". Instead I'll produce 3 turds: 1. Zach - forcing the ball too much and too many picks. 2. Buck - completely abandoned the run game 3. Defence - 15 yd cushions and 0 pressure on Powell Pepto Bismol Play - OSH not taking the ball in the 3rd. Kaopectate mention - Special Teams was special needs all day. Castillo missing a FG and a convert.

Fact of matter....we use nationalized American on both sides of ball...makes us better We take Jackson out and add an actual impact dlineman we better if Osh feels the need to start an inferior Kramdi than an American...then we don't start Thomas and we use Fox and Walker and we better...we don't have to start 8 Canadians..and they way Osh works roster we don't even dress the import to take advantage of it We start Eli over Kolo...we better...The center ranked in the top 2 of all of NCAA football is biggr and better than Kolo who we pulled off street after 2 yr out of ball cause nobody wanted him...he's undersized and weak link We use an actual returner ...whom we have and use Parker as extra db and rotation...we better Now....why aren't we? We put Schmeckle on roster...who should have been cut in first round of cuts...then don't use him when our Dline was gassed...why? I wanna hear how all.that makes us a better team from the coach....and on here would like to hear an actual explanation as to why anyone thinks this is all good We have regressed...records shows it now...have less depth...which is obvious...and have been outcoached and unprepared too many times....we got lucky to beat CGy in one game....were down 22 zip to a winless squad...lost to Ott and now Hamilton...what's their combined records? Also lost to a crappy rider team...who cares if it was LDC...shouldn't matter...and we were embarrassed beyond belief at home by a team on our asses for first...how anyone can say we good...Osh knows what he's doing...we won a cup...2 yrs ago now...is a complete idiot...sorry to offend you...but that's the facts....he is coach I want...but also want him to adapt and grow...and he's not...mainly cause he a stubborn prick....well now is time to coach like a prick cause coddling... favorites and complacent attitude has crept in...and that becomes the demise of real good team's....great ones don't allow it...we ain't great no more....sometimes truth and reality stings but if not addressed now it will be a one and done more likely than not in the playoffs

Combination of his time before covid vaccines and fill in play now. Yeah we haven't seen him, but kolankowski is the epitome of a filler. Eli I think has higher potential based on physical abilities.

  46. Is Kola really the problem? I think he's doing okay. That safety blitz they missed was between him & Neufeld. They both didn't see him coming but neither did Zach.
    2 points
  47. They're both NIs so upgrading the position is just a straight upgrade and instead of having 7 OL on the roster (plus a DI FB) we could have another useful body on STs?

  48. I could have coached the 96-97 Argos to Grey Cups and I wasn't even in junior high yet.
    2 points
  49. Matthews was basically Chris Jones dealt a better hand. His Grey Cups were DeWalt, Ham (team of all imports), Flutie, Flutie, Calvillo. All guys in their absolute prime. As soon as the situation turned, Matthews was gone. He never built anything is what I'm saying and had a lot of mediocre teams, parachuted into amazing circumstances. Buono built everything. O'Shea built everything here. Don Matthews is not someone I respect.
    2 points
  50. And that's what coaching is. Building up your team and your players, building from their strengths to improve their weaknesses. Teams are sitting on the 4-5 concepts Collaros loves. Need adjustment.
