  4. Neufeld was ass to start last season because he was hurt all camp. And how can Eli earn a spot when he never gets a chance there? See you're still clinging to this false idea that you have that guys are starting because they are the best option and no one has pushed past them. That's demonstatively flase with this team...

  6. I appreciated Younger's answer when he was asked why they let both Bighill and Alexander go at the same time, given how important leadership and communication are. "The other side of that is the physical toll that the game takes. Either way, you have a challenge. Whether the challenge is communication or physical limitations - you choose your challenge."

  9. has there ever been a Bomber OC that MBB liked? Looking at the recent OCs... Marcel Bellefeuille -- emergency scrap heap guy, only competent option at the time, somehow hung on way too long Lapo -- too cerebral, no killer instinct, bad playcaller. QBs check down too often. Buck -- ruined Streveler, predictable playcaller. QBs go deep too often. Hogan -- worse than Buck. offence starts hot and ends cold. can't make adjustments. seen wearing backwards hat and sunglasses. seriously, I don't think I can recall an OC who was good enough for this board.

  10. step one....actually put Eli there and give him several games....and if he is no better....batter up until you find the right guy

  11. It seems to me that playing center is a vital and demanding position- maybe even moreso than left tackle. We see how good/bad Kolankowski is and he has hit his ceiling long ago and ain't gonna get any better. Eli may or may not be the answer at center but until he plays the position in practice, and gets a decent amount of gametime, all we have is speculation.

  12. This is less about how good Eli is and more about Kolankowski sucks, try someone else and if it's not Eli find someone else.

  13. Eli's been around since 2019 and hasn't been promoted to starter yet. If you're basing your opinion on how he played way back in 2017 against college opposition, then you're out to lunch on your assessment of his current value.

  14. can't earn it if not given the shot....Practice isnt a place to earn anything really Kolo didnt earn it...was given to him by default when Couture went down and we had nobody else ....has he earned keeping it.?..hell to the no....but there he is...game in and game out

  15. nobody is off the hook...been a major crap show since January...no foresight....real plan...no forward thinking....zero succession in place for most part anywhere...lot of hopium tho Walter's tho is the guy with say in releasing him...who knows if Osh fought it and still wanted him around or not...I tend to think he probably did based on Osh history with players and his reluctance to even bench a guy....let alone admit as soon as it apparent a guy is not good enough. Doesn't want to appear as if he wrong or made a mistake....and will keep pounding square pegs into round holes over and over and over....history shows us this Is it an ego thing?...who knows....but it's a serious flaw None the less....the success and the flops and shitshow stuff is a collective of Walters and his team....and Osh and his....and of late...been more flopping and shittin round here....have they ran their course...an epic failure this yr to me says yes and change in order....this cant continue and be allowed to fester

  16. I agree Booch, Kolo seems to be a good guy - but he needs to be challenged - whether by Eli, or Vibert, or someone else. Accountability.

  17. Yes, because we have never let young OL get into our starting lineup. I mean c'mon...you guys are laying it on a bit thick. We have swapped out a ton of guys on our OL over the years.

  19. This comment reminded me of a former Blue Bomber Head Coach named Joe Zaleski whose favourire expression was, "We're optimistic!!" every time he was asked if he thought the Bombers were good enough to win their next game. Or, if his next starting qb was good enough to play. He was Head Coach for the Bombers from 1967 thru 69. He must have repeated that phrase a dozen times over, if not more during his time here. Maybe Joe felt the more he said it out loud for all to hear that he'd even start to believe it. He finished last in the Western Conference every season & had an overall record of 10-37-1. The result of Zaleski's optimism? He was fired. Optimism didn't cut it. The lack of results did. You're optimistic, Mark H & God bless you for that. My point is, that I don't believe this our receiving corps as a group is good enough to carry us long term. Yeah, it was nice to see Keric Wheatfall make an appearance again with some catches. I just don't think who we have currently are good enough. Walters made sure of that this past off season. The key to everything is to get Brady going running he ball. Until Hogan takes his head out of his ass & realizes that, our passing game without Oliveira chewing up enough big plays on the ground & our receiving corps without enough real playmakers is going to suffer. Hogan refuses to commit to the run game & it's hurting everything.

  20. why does it feel like some of these reporters are simply asking questions to confirm their own opinions? I get the need to ask them but its annoying how they try to put words in the coaches mouth rather than just letting him explain

  21. I wonder if we take a DI Lber off the AR for Logan, and carry both he and Vaval. Logan would be the 2nd return guy on Kick offs and could be a rotational piece on O. Atleast in theory any way. Don't really want to see Schoen back till he is at what ever his new 100% is.

  25. Yup. Eli may not be the answer at C but he has other uses. We're on year 4 of Kolo now & you can't convince me that he's the best we could have done in all that time. I don't know if it's complacency or what but they seem to be ok being mediocre at certain positions. Not out of football, he's on his 3rd CFL team this year and is on BC's AR right now. 27. kola has been screwing up more snaps than that this year each game. also eli had one pre season of snap difficulty mainly one game.
    1 point
  28. I'm not saying he's better or worse, I don't really know, just saying it's hard to win a starting centre job when you immediately **** up a snap every time you get an opportunity

  29. coaches probably also know Korn and Thomas are not particularly good either....explain that one lol....Tho Korn got the pine and rightfully so....Scmecker for now has earned that 2nd Cdn DT spot...But now lawson is back to full practice one would think he should bump Thomas off roster...we don't need 3 Cdn DT's....2 Dt's and an edge guy like Bailey would make more sense.....but will we see it?...doubt it...we either gonna waste a spot on another DT that really isnt impactful, or Schmeck gets bumped off...which would be a crime...Scmeck also has yrs of ball ahead of him....and upside....Thomas has neither....he's just basically in the way

  30. The entire point is that we don't know if it is inferior or not because Osh won't give anyone a chance unless forced to. Kolankowski if he's not the worst starter on the team is damned close to it and should be replaced. And if Eli isn't the guy to do it then he should be replaced too. We've seen Kyle Walters bring in players who can step in and play before. Based on each guys respective history I say Walters is fine at finding players, it's the coach who is bad at giving them chances and building a roster properly.

  31. I watched kolankowski **** up a snap not 2 games ago... and I watched him do nothing of value on many other plays, and I watched his slow ass limit a run by Brady because he couldn't either get a block or get out of the backs way. Maybe he's better at snapping, but at this point maybe we need someone better at not being a guy who can snap and nothing else.
    1 point
  32. Every time Eli has had a shot at center in pre season he ****** up at least one snap. Not the best way to gain confidence of your coaches and QB and get promoted to starter...

  33. Bighill was useless in pass coverage too. Bighill got injured and it improved the D so how can you sit there and sat it was the best use of roster? It's a bright flashing sign showing how O'Shea's loyalty to certain veterans blinds him from making the best roster moves... so if we know it happens based on this one example we can ******* easily extrapolate that it happens to varying degrees at other positions. It's pretty ******* telling when we can sit here on this message board in the offseason and basically nail the depth chart before camp even opens.

  34. And it took an injury for him to get the more substantial playing time which led to improved team performance.... and opportunity that wouldn't have been given without injury... and that's not the only position this sort of thing happens with. We're just not always lucky enough to have injuries at positions where they need to happen.

  35. This is a terrible argument... teams in the cfl barely scout practise rosters of each other any more. Fact is their own American scouting is just as efficient. Hamilton is a great example. They hired a gm from the Bombers and he found a use.for tons of guys who didn't get as many opportunities here. Mostly with Americans you're looking at potential and it's the combination of opportunity and development that turn them into impactful starters. The crux of the issue here is that we never give guys those opportunities when there's an established vet in their way on the depth chart. It leads to stagnation.

  36. Tony Jones? Cause you and I know damned well that without injury bighill would still be starting for us despite a scrap heap pick up like Jones instantly improved play at the position.

  38. Part of problem in my opinion tho is the HC ability to actually evaluate and identify the talent too....he values some things that don't translate to success on the field, and for whatever reason feels the need to play excessive Canadians at times...and in key spots when not needed If a scouting staff brings guys in and the HC chooses to keep and roster possibly inferior guys....then that's not on the scouting staff...Part of the issue here is after some yrs of futility, and almost getting canned Osh got some success with a loaded lineup (provided by the G.M and scouts) but then clinged to way too many and made some odd roster decisions as well and we never really re-loaded or had actual transition pieces being groomed...and where we actually did...we let em walk....did we give the coach based on that initial success too much leeway in who he wanted...and didnt....and the G.M allowed it?....was it the G.M was lazy and had no balls and didnt see it, or question things?...I think It a bit of A...a bit of B....and Walter's should have played Boss a few yrs ago and sat his coach down and said....sorry if this isnt to your liking but we moving on from player A...B...etc... And the part of the not playing up to snuff...well do some better coaching perhaps....or actual coaching....and if your staff beneath you isn't getting things done, then as the HC replace them...too much back slapping....buddy buddy stuff here....Thats a good thing to a point but you also have to be cut throat and cold too at times..... I think it was the sum of the parts really...Buck started out well....but ZC was also a better QB then...with better pieces...when he started to degrade, and we had to use and integrate a lot of new bodies...and some guys with minimal to zero experience...Buck couldnt adjust his playbook, or his calls Hogan now....is limited in what he can actually do, due to lack of experience and being a first time OC at the pro level....also think he has a bit of an ego that needs to be put in check....couple that with the worst receiving group in the league...and a less than 100 percent BO...well we getting what is to be expected....crap sandwiches He should have been 6 gamed minimum right out of the gate...if not 2 times....we likely set him back ...a lot and doubt he gonna be anywhere near what he was the first 2 yrs this yr The fact he is braced up now....not a good sign at all and really....rostering him again is probably a really stupid decision...gonna hand cuff us....and him and takes away a healthy individual from play time/development sadly...I totally expect us to do this....

  39. I hope I'm wrong but I've got the feeling that Roadhouse's best days are behind him ... and even if he can get back to his peak, he's going to take awhile to get there.

  40. Mostly through injury or departure though... kolankowski was purely an injury fill in and he had never once been in danger of being pulled out. Neufeld can be injured all training camp and never feel pressure to lose his spot...

He may have been rusty or out of position, but I didn't see Vanterpool as exceptionally good at LT, and with an aging Big Stan, plus an increasingly brittle Collaros, that has to be a concern.

  46. yup.....same..maybe the demotion behind Korn lit a fire...If he can contribute like that game in and game out then he deserves to be on...He works great in the short yardage both sides of the ball so has purpose there beyond any extra reps he gets on defensive rotation...Thomas does not and is probably our slowest and least impactful guy off the snap....so why even bother

Yeah, I agree with most of that. I think most teams, when they have MBT starting, are in a position they don't want to be in. With his combination of age, experience and what I've seen of his intangibles, I don't think he will be a lot more than what we have seen from him between edmonton and toronto. If you can really cook up an offence around him that deals with his deficiencies, you can have a productive offence. But he nor that O will be what carries you to wins. I would still be happy if we worked a trade for him with strevy. I like strevy, but I think our room needs a shake up and I don't think he has a chance with the disciples of lapo here. MBT on the other hand did his best work with jackson. They might be trying to hide him in order to protect some value in a trade, more than the money. Despite the spreading out of starters and back ups, we've seen a ton of QB injuries and some one is likely to over pay out of need later in the year. It sucks about Alexander, this could've been a big year for him. The league needs guys like that to suceed.
