  2. Jefferson needs to play about 2/3 of snaps. His impact plays don't increase if he plays more. He has more plays with his hands on his hips watching guys run by him, big negative plays, drives where the D can't get off the field. Grab one of the Global DL, grab a couple Canadian guys that can be role players. Roll with 8 DL.

  3. My favourite part of this Jets team is their confidence in playing with a 3rd period lead.

  4. I'd go for whom I've seen for best Bombers DBs as Hill..BOlden..Brown...Roy Bennet and James Jefferson...bar none..nobody since be even close...I would almost put Bolden first if he had a series of yrs together...dude had no business being up here and we were so lucky to have him a few times

  5. There a couple nice global DL prospects in this draft ..hope we grab one

  6. It's what worked in 2019 and 2021, no idea why they got away from it.

  7. However, that doesn't make us look more knowledgeable when it comes to football discussions about players. Only a lot dumber with a mindset like that. On par with how the knuckledraggers on Rider fans think about us.

  8. I'm not sure which games that people had sacks and who played and what not. But from the naked eye Jeffcoat didn't look like a difference maker while Jefferson from the start of the season until the end was very noticeable on the field regardless if he registered sacks or not. The amount of times he caused massive disruptions and the amount of times he had near sacks was very noticeable. Sometimes stats don't tell the full story.

  9. I’ve never seen a player at any spot in the CFL more dominant than Juran Bolden. The last great Cal Murphy/Paul Jones find here

  10. We should be in the process of trying to find our next Lawler/Schoen so that letting one walk in the offseason won't be as painful. Weineke isn't that guy.

  11. One reason might be - we fielded the best secondary that I can remember - in that GC - everyone was healthy. I was at the game where Hammy beat us soundly that year - Brandon Alexander was standing on the sidelines. It could be that if they used max protect and consequently fewer receivers in the GC, perhaps our cover guys would have had them mostly blanketed. With Hecht (one example) at safety back in Sept., it was a whole other story.

  12. Yup...the last 2 cups will irritate me till I die...we threw 2 away which we totally could have locked down. Gut instinct this off-season is a lesson learned was realized..finally...now hopefully all the lessons were absorbed fully

  13. The guy has been garbage the past two years. They're not getting a bargain.

  14. In 2021 & 2022 - teams were often forced to use extra pass pro against the Bombers. In 2023 not so much.

  16. Nah, I'd rather they break in a new receiver* on an ELC instead of inserting a one year plug. *Ontaria Wilson *Ontaria Wilson *Ontaria Wilson Schoen signed a one year deal and might actually ask for more next season, Walters could have to decide between keeping him or Lawler.

  17. And it just so happens we have an opening for a global on the ar. Very different types of dbs. But Alford quality is extremely high in the modern era. Best cfl db produced in the past 20 years. Stiggers is likely the next best, but idk if he will stick in the nfl like Alford. Dees style of play fits soo well and he can bring soo much. Yeah and honestly that diminishes if he doesn’t have a nose to draw doubles. When teams chip him and get two guys on him etc he suffers. He tends to just coast back and try and swat passes. In 21 especially we had the versatility to enable his playing rover basically. We had multiple dl who could all be on the field with him and create pressure, and lbers who could cover for his aggression/misses. The injuries, age and reduction in support from other positions has really hurt ba, biggie, and wj. Hopefully we can find dts who can eat blocks and get pressures consistently, and not compensate with biggie getting smashed by ol, allowing him to drop back and help cover, and ba can recover and go back to doing more than selling out for hits.

  18. If Dee Alford stayed up here he would be in the prime of maybe the best DB career in league history.

  19. From 19-22 max protect was pretty much the only way teams could have any measure of success against the Bombers D. Especially when Hall would blitz into it constantly. I’ve said it before, I’m still surprised the ticats didn’t use it in the 19 GC, they’d killed us with max pro in both regular season games that year.

  20. Stats and crap are fun and nice...but the stat that is the indicator of who houses the elite talent...and team...51-17... And if we didnt pooch last two playoffs...be running back a chance for 5 I don't care about a lower level team who runs a couple mid tier receivers out there who had 1000 yards when they won 6 games...

  21. Jake Wieneke is still out there, right? Someone is going to get a bargain.

  27. Now you're back pedalling. 1. One, you do consider Alford the best or you wouldn't have said "in league history". 2. How can you say a corner like Hill wasn't physical? He was a shut down corner playing against guys like Mervyn Fernandez, david Williams, Darrell K. Smith, Allen Pitts, earl Winfield, Tony Champion & Geroy Simon. He didn't do that by playing powder puff football. He battled with them downfield. The guy could lay a hit on a receiver if he had to & also play finesse as well. 3. The numbers for Hill's interception numbers are even more eye popping considering teams were afraid to throw to his side of the field so he was a guy who was resourceful when the ball came his way. He only had Less Browne on the other corner for 2 seasons. 4. Interceptions, fumble recoveries, blocking punts & field goals means Hill had a nose for the ball & turnovers win games so you should care. Hill was a game changer. 5. No one intercepted 47 passes in 92 games. That's an incredible stat. Even mentioning a player who was here one season would be on his ways to "perhaps" the best DB in history. Alford was a very good DB, I agree but lots of guys had seasons like him as rookies. My point here? Longevity has to count for something before annointing a player the greatest ever after just one season. Even saying "perhaps". And, please don't take this personally, this is just a discussion. I'm not going after you. You're entitled to your opinion.

  28. Yup great business model, what the market is dictating blah blah blah. Leafs suck.

  29. Yet, we'll always see the Leafs. And in every intermission they discuss the same team. Even if they aren't playing.

  30. Brandon Colliers efforts are starting to pay off. He has brought a ton of high level talent to the NCAA from all around the world since he hung the, up.

  31. I’d add blink, he played behind some horrible ols and still put up great numbers. Plus was often our 2nd best wr behind milt. Bolden was insane. And he made it look soo easy.

  32. Right. Part of the last great crop anyhow. I think Sellers came up the first time in 1995 as well.

  33. You can thank Gary Bettman and the NHL on that one. They greatly restrict access (i.e gotta pay and not just to watch the Jets play but have to buy packages that include teams I couldn’t care less about) if I want to watch any teams who reside outside the province I live in. They consider the Oilers/Flames my home teams. Nope I just happen to reside in Alberta. My home team is Winnipeg.

  34. Both will be back next yr...u can take that the bank League figured out what Weineke was and once that happened...well u see the results...he not fast...can't create separation with solid moves and route running...so he's pretty limited in how he can be used...plus some of his big TD catches when he was TD Jake likely 5 times out of 10 he makes them...and that being generous I think we see a shift from a role Bailey played to a dynamic receiver...speed and spread a defence ability...that's my assumption

  35. We don’t need to hit on a low risk high reward guy like him so yeah. Developing the next guy is more important. No matter who our 3rd imp wr is we have an elite wr core.

  36. So 3 factors on the play: Puck over the line? Yes Whistle? Not clear Pushed in? Yes, but arguably Canuck pushed Scheifele into him. But too many “what ifs” I suppose to give the Jets the goal.

  37. I agree with this. The elite tier is those 3. Second tier is divisional All-Star quality guys. top tier, lawler schoen Lewis 2nd tier white hatcher Demski hardy (Demski is in this tier as much due to his diverse dynamic useages and elite blocking) 3rd bane emelius Hollins begelton Daniel’s but despite that I’d take the risk on guys like Mcinnis Coxie Snead cottoy hollins bane and emelius over guys like begelton and Daniel’s based on upside and ability to move up. The performances the riders WRs put up with the corpse of Harris and a bunch of qb3s is impressive. If any of those guys took baileys spot and last years reps they’d be in the 2nd tier easy.
    1 point
  38. I can think of 10 guys I would rather have than Emilus. That takes him out of the top tier imo. I don't see a team where he is clear cut number 1..well at least last year. This year who knows? IMO, Top tier is your top 5-8 in your position group to be considered top tier. I don't have Emilus there.
    1 point
  39. He is absolutely the best of their group
    1 point
  40. Great? Like upper tier? I wouldn’t put him there.
    1 point
  41. They all are mid tier right now...until proven otherwise...2 guys had career yrs last yr...is that the norm....or the anomaly...we shall see but I do like Emilus...and he prob will bolt there next yr I bet Lenius has done nothing...cant stay healthy...and isn't a game changer for a big bodied guy...KSB as well...tsn and suitor creamed their dungarees over him for a few good games and plays...but inconsistent...not a good pure receiver and almost seems to loaf at times I wouldn't take any of them over our guys..only Emilus to fill in the 5th slot but if he was to play the role Sheed did I don't know if he could
    1 point
  42. Sheed is great and loves Winnipeg but this is a harsh industry and he’s 30 and not getting any younger. He can still perform at a high level but he’s really our number 4 receiver and can be replaced (at least talent wise) with a 20 something guy. This isn’t 2019 or even 2021 anymore. The Bombers realize they have to get younger and sign the important younger players to remain competitive. Why do you think the three big signings this offseason where guys in their 20’s? The great teams retool, the Buffalo Sabres of the sports world tear everything down and start from scratch.

  43. It’s very common … Jovan Olafioye, SirVincent Rogers, Dejon Allen, Derek Dennis … that’s off the top of my head thinking of the major huge impact guys Jonathan Broxton (who we signed originally) was another one for BC. Kent Perkins was also BC’s MOOL nominee in his rookie year as a tackle.

  44. I don't think Richmond showed a whole lot tbh. People were hopeful for continuity sake and because he went to a school most fans of football recognize. The willingness to sit and wait for YEARS by American players is always kind of a bad sign for talent and ability. Not many guys who sit and wait like that who turn out to be anything. Guys who can play, want to play whether that's somewhere else up here, in spring leagues, even arena leagues. Get a bit of that continuity with Lofton and working in this offense. He's gained more game experience and reps as a starter which is huuuge for OL in this era of minimal contact practice. Bond would be the last rookie OL they really played from the start. You'd need a guy that jumps off the page like that. He played guard though. Chungh started right away at guard too. Desjarlais was 6th guy and jumped in at guard with next injury after that which forced Speller to C in year Neufeld missed most of.
