Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed three players including WR Keric Wheatfall The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed wide receivers Keric Wheatfall and Braxton Burmeister, and kicker Jose Borregales on Monday. Keric Wheatfall is six foot two and weighs 194 pounds. The 24-year-old from Cypress, Texas, signed with the Philadelphia Stars (USFL) in 2023 but spent the season on injured reserve. Before Philadelphia, Wheatfall attended the Philadelphia Eagles training camp in 2022. Collegiately, Wheatfall played two seasons at Blinn College (2017-18) with 72 catches for 1,173 yards, seven touchdowns, and seven kick returns for 112 yards in 20 games for the Buccaneers. Then, Wheatfall transferred to Fresno State (2019, 2021) with 55 catches for 923 yards, five touchdowns, two carries for two yards, and one kick return for 35 yards in 23 games for the Bulldogs. Braxton Burmeister is six foot one and weighs 205 pounds. The 25-year-old from La Jolla, California, made two catches for 15 yards in three preseason games for the Los Angeles Rams in 2023. The Rams signed Burmeister as an undrafted free agent in 2023. Collegiately, Burmeister was a quarterback in college. He played two seasons at Oregon (2017-18) completing 49 of 87 passes (56%) for 373 yards, two touchdowns, six interceptions, 71 carries for 131 yards, and three touchdowns in 11 games for the Ducks. Next, Burmeister transferred to Virginia Tech (2020-21) completing 190 of 339 passes (56%) for 2,647 yards, 16 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 163 carries for 703 yards, four touchdowns, one catch for three yards, and one touchdown in 18 games for the Hokies. Then, Burmeister transferred to San Diego State in 2022 completing 34 of 64 passes (53%) for 230 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, 29 carries for 144 yards, one touchdown, and one catch for 19 yards in eight games for the Aztecs. Jose Borregales is five foot ten and weighs 206 pounds. The 26-year-old from Caracas, Venezuela, converted six of nine field goals (67%) with a long of 52 yards in ten games for the Orlando Guardians (XFL) in 2023. The Guardians drafted Borregales in the first round (5th pick) of Phase 5 of the 2023 XFL Draft. Before Orlando, Borregales signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in 2021. Collegiately, Borregales played four seasons at Florida International University (2016-19) making 50 of 66 field goals (75.8%) with a long of 53 yards, making 131 of 134 extra points, 78 kickoffs for 4,695 yards (60.2 AVG), and 40 touchbacks in 39 games for the Panthers. He was a two-time All-Conference USA Honorable Mention. Then, he transferred to Miami in 2020 made 20 of 22 field goals (91%) with a long of 57 yards, and made 37 of 37 extra points (100%) in 11 games for the Hurricanes. He was named First Team All-ACC in 2020. https://www.bgmsportstrax.com/2024/01/22/winnipeg-blue-bombers-signed-three-players-including-wr-keric-wheatfall/4 points -

Nobody is “turning” on Brady. He is a great player that everyone would love to have back. If he wants to “reset the market” he can do it somewhere else. He didn’t build this team up over years and years like many others - he walked into a finished product. It is bit of a slap in the face of guys who actually did turn this around damn near a decade ago - lplayed major roles in winning Cups- and took less to stay here. He wants it to be all business - so don’t be surprised when it gets treated like a business on both sides. I Don't blame him for wanting to get paid, but it doesn’t fall in line with FIFO, and he plays a position that should be easier to replace. So happy travels if that is what he wants.4 points

Kongbo will be just another player strung along by teams offering the moon and then cutting them loose before the bill is due. That's something you rarely see from this club - I hope players/agents recognize this when negotiating with Walters. Yeah, another team can sign you to a bigger deal but will you actually collect that money?4 points -

This is actually where they could use the "new" (year old) roster rules to their advantage on offense at receiver/running back.3 points -
I think it was a very good question to ponder. It’s the exact situation we are in after all. That is certainly part of it. Because basically every rb at the minimum replacement level could be on an nfl roster. The nfl has known this and worked this way for a long while. At wr it’s harder to find that nfl roster quality player. Brady is 1000% a fifo guy. He’s a great player, person and team mate I have no question. If he played the rest of his career here I’d be happy. If he goes some place else I’ll cheer for him. End of the day I don’t have any emotional attachment to an individual player on this roster that is close to the attachment to the team and it being good. There is no guy I wouldn’t cut or trade to make the team better, if a better player was available. Though I do have it add, some times the team is more than the sum of its parts. If we replaced wj biggie yoshi and Bailey all with better players, we might well get worse due to shattering the locker room. That is a hard thing to gauge for the mafia who know the core intimately. Impossible for me or us on here to say where that line is.3 points

When you say “people” are you talking about me? If so, then you are disregarding the fact I said that I don’t blame him for wanting to get paid, that he is a great player, and would love to have him back. However, a giant RB contract doesn’t make sense for our team IMO. He can go reset the market somewhere else. That is essentially “I want free agent money” talk in the CFL. Certainly for a RB. But this has been explained many times now. You’re talking about the best WR in the league who has led the league in receiving TDs basically since he stepped on the field. We aren’t talking “really good”. We are talking all time level good. I know you want to make what I am saying into something more dramatic. I don’t value Oliveira as much as Schoen for the reasons that have been mentioned many many times about the position he plays. That is what it boils down to. The same way I would have loved to have Desjarlais back - but not at that price. Good for him, moving on.3 points -
The thing people need to remember about a Canadian running back is that they are so few and far between that committing to one as a ratio breaker means you also have to invest the capital in a capable backup as well. Johnny Augustine made 90k last year, probably close to the going rate unless you find a good rookie. Is there a team that is going to invest 300k into a RB1/2? If there is, I hope it’s not us. (obviously you could flip your ratio or dress more than the required amount of Canadians but there’s a cost to that as well)3 points
-
Every one loves Brady. A guy can become too big for the team though. I wouldn’t sign Myles Garett or bosa for 5 million dollars a year. Wouldn’t make sense. Even a million a year would leave a team un able to compete. Prime Derrick Henry or any other top tier nfl rb, wouldn’t give him 500k. If two players combine for a mil against this cap you’re pretty much doomed in the cfl. Brady might get crazy money from some one. We lost out on drew desjarlais to ott for 260k a year. Which is crazy money for a guard especially. Desjarlais, is a better ol than Brady is a rb. Both are great, but drew has legit 7-8 years of elite level play left in him. Rookie RBs don’t have that. I can’t see us giving Brady more than like 225k. And I could see a desperate team going crazy. Kadeem Carey went into last year on 145k hard max salary. At that point he was the best back in rb league. Kevin brown made 121k last year in hard max money. Devonte Williams probably made 90k range and was 100 yards behind brown, in 3 less games played. How much is the passport worth? Gittens jr off his career year made 200k. Demski made 175k. If the pass port is worth 60k, Brady is worth 200-205 ish. But if some one offers him 250 range it just makes more sense to go rookie for Pennie’s on the dollar.3 points

Or a legit 3rd edge rusher as to not gas out the Jeffs. Willie is one of my top 5 all timers but let’s be realistic, he’s useless when he’s tired out. Starts loping around, trying to make up the energy by using his feet instead of his body. Jeffcoat too, dominant but needs to be spelled more, bum hip won’t hold out for 18 games There’s no excuse not to have at least a 7 man rotation on the DL this year.3 points -

unless inside the walls hard to determine what and why For speculation sakes, say we dispose of Augustine, Miller, Briggs, Thomas, Kolo,Gauthier, Castillo and Benson...rough avg salary of around 115 for those guys saves you 920k.....slice away 600k for 8 entry level deals, and really with the exception of maybe Castillo all can be entry level, or a role guy in FA on his second deal, which will still be cheap...That fee's you up roughly 300...320k after the fact....which can go a long way in re-upping a few key guys, or bringing someone in Rough clacs and all before some u all go jumping down my throat, but thats a way to free up some salary, and shed some older declioning dead weight....and a draft this yr, looking at talent and upside, and not just the way we have been doing it with ST only guys is paramount We could rally boost the roster too if we walk away from a possible 180k+ salary with BO, as we could garner another 100k there filling his role with a first yr import. I am not turning on BO by any stretch but you have to look where bang for buck makes you stronger, and if his asks gets to be too much...It aint worth it anymore2 points

At this point and time there are so many options available to KW as far as SMS goes. Could we sign BO, Schoen, Streveler....absolutely no problem we could. They all want to be here. Should we? That's the real question and really the only person in position to answer that is KW because none of us know who he would ship out and who he would replace those he ships out with. Without carnal knowledge of what any of these guys want for salary and who we gotta carve out to make room, and what kind of blue chipper prospects and back room convos KW is having we will all just have to wait until this crazy carousel called the offseason becomes clearer. Right now, BO, Schoen and Strev all remain strong possibilities to sign with us and if the price is right I am sure we want them all.2 points

I can’t stand the term “reset the market”. It’s a capped market, all that does is take away from another area (or from another angle, one’s own teammates) I’d rather see a balanced roster than a reset market star alongside a bunch of jobbers. We lived through that in the 90s and 2000’s, paying 2-3 skill players and nobody else.2 points -

Seems I'm the butt of the jokes here by a couple of real losers.... ERRRRRR...... posters because of my age but so be it, I guess. What else is new, anyway??? I've read the posts here & the howls of laughter aimed at me. Made by the same people who always seem to claim that racism, bigotry & discrimination are evil & must be stamped out once & for all. However, when it comes to ageism well, that's okay. It's always Open Season on me for that. So then, the word that jumps out at me for some of you (not all) is hypocrite. Yes, they say, Let's minimize someone's comments (like mine) when we disagree with them by saying their opinion is unimportant because we think they're too old & should get lost. Their opinions don't count as much as others because of their advanced age. Meanwhile, they'll jump on the next thread defending the rights of free speech passionately. Is it because they actually feel that way or perhaps just want to fit in here & not stick out themselves?? Just be part of the crowd. I wonder sometimes. Some of us have been members together for a couple of decades. Here & at the old Our Bomber site. If we have then we've known each other for 20 years. Unless you were 16 when you started then some of you are pushing 45-50 years of age or older now. You're already looked upon as old & unimportant from a twenty something's perspective. You just haven't experienced it yet but it's coming. You cling to your last vestages of youth while your belly starts expanding, you have more than one chin, your belt around your waist needs loosening, your pants ride higher & the grey hair is springing more visibly everyday. Not only on what's left of your receding hairline but on your face as well. Some of you who thought you were James Bond in the bedroom just a few short years ago now need a little blue pill to perform & "be a man" when it comes to satisfying your lover, wife or girlfriend. So, if you've been around here as long as I have or longer then you're no spring chicken either. From the posts I used to read on the political threads that were thankfully discontinued it's pretty clear that some of you laughing at me learned to yell at clouds at an early age. I just know that time stops for no one. As some of you will find out sooner than you think. The harsh reality is some of you "youngsters" won't make it to my age as cancers. other sicknesses, afflictions & accidents might pick you off prematurely. We don't know when our number will be called & our time is up. Getting old is really a privelidge. It's not a right as some of us could die tomorrow. From a deathbed perspective, the 38 year old about to die would probably wish he or she could live to be 68. Just know that mocking me about my age isn't going to change my mind about how I see things when it comes to the Blue Bombers, Jets, the world of sports or just the world in general. I won't be run off by a few intellectual pipsqueaks that we have here who seem to have it in for me. One thing is certain. You'll always know my opinion & where I stand. There'll be no beige for me. I've always had a strong opinion. I can be stubborn. I've taken as good as I've got over the years. Sometimes it was deserved & sometimes not. The truth is you'll always know where I stand on any subject that I comment on. I'm not the same person I was 20 years ago. I think I've mellowed & actually will try to discuss any subject with anyone now without being insulting unless I'm insulted first. Twenty years ago, I was more impatient & willing to argue my point aggressively & I wasn't very nice at times. I have my regrets for being a prick at times back then. I feel I'm no longer like that. I try to show respect & listen to the other POV. Now, for all you hypocrites out there & you know who you are... Have a nice day!!!!! The greatest fools are the ones that hold fast to facts when truth is gone. Still the need to be right consumes the workings of sound minds. No longer do the crowds align those masses forced to harmonize. The end result is fractured thought when sanity is subtly bought. By dogma's bent in bubbles realm the saddest jokers are at the helm. With agendas forlorn from hope when madness is more than a trope. Instead, reality bends it's knee with the idiots flocking to the decrees. Truth is absent at the end when verity is then condemned.2 points -
