  1. 1. The primary function of any museum is to preserve heritage and educate the public. Expecting a high degree of economic impact through tourism, is a recent shift and actually a fairly new idea. 2. You pointed out government subsidy as if it were a negative. It's the norm for any museum - they all get subsidies. That's why I could rent two rooms at the MB. museum this past Friday, and also have my students complete a scavenger hunt of the galleries, all for $13 per student, plus 5 free chaperones. We were at the museum from 9:30 - 3:00; per hour, per student, that's ridiculously low, and I greatly appreciate it.

  3. We were interested in him before and after he stepped away from the game to work on his issues so it doesn't seem like the team is put off by it. I think it's a good sign that he was aware enough to decline offers last year, knowing he wasn't in the right mind set to be playing. Still something he (and the team) need to be mindful of, but if he feels he's ready to play again, I think he's worth taking a look at.

  4. It's been reported that the Bombers have made contact with his agent. He could be a good player to sign but it always depends on how he fits SMS and how he works with his team mates and coaches. I've never heard anything bad about him but the fact the team has made contact is a good sign.

  7. I will ask this of our resident expert, what is the economic impact of the CMHR? What is the ROI? How does this compare to other cultural events/venues? I'll hang up and listen to your reply.

  8. I read those too - you're referring to them without the proper context 1. All Canadian museums operate as non-profit organizations 2. Most Canadian museums are primarily funded by both governments and foundations

  12. I would like to see what they do with Portage Place and the Bay before we kill off downtown, Workers re populating the downtown may never happen to prior numbers but there's no reason that it can't be a safe destination with different attraction and dining options just needs the right direction from people running this city and private business.

  14. Have you ever been down Hastings/East Hastings in Vancouver/Burnaby? Makes our downtown look like the Garden of Eden and it's cleaned up from what it was 10 years ago. I do business with 3 locations along that strip and it is not uncommon for the metal roller shutters to stay closed all day while people work inside and the rear parking areas are 10ft fences with barbed wire on top. Winnipeg is in no way the worst downtown in the country and is not what keeps people from coming here. Weather, ignorance and the perception of what it is like here are what keep people away.

  19. Pinball is old boys club through and through. The Argos had a load of scumbags in his time as a coach. When we hired O'Shea one of my main concerns is he'd bring that stink in here but he seems to have some human-level accountability.

  20. The coach wrote in her lawsuit that she then informed Mujtaba and Argos assistant general manager John Murphy about what had happened. “Murphy responded by stating that [she] should not have spoken to [Kelly] and that she has now ‘opened a can of worms that didn’t need to be opened,’” the lawsuit says. Wait, you mean cool guy John Murphy wanted to sweep Kelly's behaviour under the rug? Say it ain't so... what a **** stain yes, sorry, "alleged" behaviour

  21. There are two sides to every story, and we obviously need to hear Chad Kelly's side. But I can't help but read her accounting of events and think "yeah, I could see that".

  32. In the years before Covid, there were several organizations that sponsored the attendance of schools at the Manitoba Museum. It was not free, the museum was still getting paid. This is a fact - I take my grade 11 group to the museum every year. No, they don't. Achieving 94 000 paid attendance when you're target is 100 000, is actually pretty good.

  33. Could be they are not ultra confident that they would land him if he does come back. They threw gaudy (650k per) at him to stay last offseason and he walked away without giving it much thought. If he really loved the Lions org he might have mulled that over for a bit. Toronto would be my bet.

  44. I don't think we would have folded, and I doubt we would still be a bottom feeder but the whole CFL was in financial peril throughout most of the 90's and early 2000's for sure. Taman did not have any kind of budget or scouting department to speak of. When the league stabilized and brought in the SMS it killed his career really because he didn't have a hot clue how to do the job properly but was better than most during a time everyone was winging it.

  45. Serious allegations. Needs to go through the process with all facts presented to make an informed decision. But one thing I do know as true and can’t be debated, Argo’s continue and always will suck. ps Chad Kelly is currently the highest paid CFL player? Wow.
