Holm is probably the best man cover guy in the league. Would be nice to see him in a scheme a lot more focused on that than trying to guess which route is coming. You could have him and Cam Allen lock down the boundary.

Id sign him...slot him right into Rt..shift Broxton and either reserve roster Stan...or try him at guard amd swap out Elsbury for either Eli or Vibert..and if that doesn't shore things up reconfig the interior till it does..lotsa time still to make it work Wallace has taken snaps at center too no? Maybe thats his calling..

Kelly has basically been the deep cover S in most of our packages this year, so not much changes for him aside from a few more snaps. For sure his best position on the field. I like Jackson in as well. He's a real good fit for kramdis role. An athletic S/db/lber tweener type who can drop back or play in the box. I really hope it doesn't mean that Wilson/Jones will be on the field full time agian. Back to no DI on the DL, which sucks. We need real DTs and big bodies, but Korny isn't the answer to any thing. I hope we are just easing Clercius back into action and thats the only reason he's behind Cobb. The roster got better for sure, but we still have some glaring weaknesses.

I think an even better, current, example is VA... he's absolutely torching the league right now... on pace for over 5000 yards, 51 TD, and ZERO picks... but the team is 2-4, so who cares?... meanwhile Fajardo has nice passing yards but only on pace for a 27-12 TD-INT ratio... but the team is 5-1, so they're very happy

https://static.cfl.ca/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/CALGARY-at-WINNIPEG_JULY-24.pdf Well I have wanted to see Jackson on and be used in role Kelly was...so this is good...Kelly at safety...Is this possibly his best spot to be...use his speed and quickness to help over top? Not sure why Stuart replaced as he was fine on teams...guess thats a wash and irrelevant in grand scheme as neither would see field defensively anyway Korn and Schmeck is redundant...one or the other...Would have rather seen us add the Global for if anything to see where he is at after a few seasons in the NFL Still no import reciever to help the offense but Clercius will help...if used correctly Coulda been worse
  12. I will say that I agree with going for 2 point converts a lot more. Seems to mostly be very situational....like do it when you need to late in the 4th Q to tie. If you come out first offensive drive of the game and drive right down the field for 6, why wouldn't you go for the extra point (2 point convert) on the D that's already on it's heels? It's also the lowest risk time to take that risk. You have a ton of time to get the point back if you don't convert.
  13. That data actually kind of harms the point he's trying to make. It's not that wide of a difference and it's not exactly controlled as the 2 point tries are the outliers....meaning D are also less prepared to defend 2 point plays. The data could even out if everyone went for 2 all the time and everyone was prepared for it. Most times now when it happens the D is half subbed off the field, has to get back out there etc. The other piece is looking at it in aggregate vs game situations. A lot of data out of American Football would tell you that you would score more points in aggregate if you never punted too. But how would you apply that to game situations? You're going to go for it on 3rd and 8 from your own 25 yard line all the time? Give the other team the ball in the redzone a bunch of times?

  15. 2 points
Thats the thing...right now no real spot for him but we own his rights...could be a nice trade bait for something tho I'd like us to actually use Perkins as a number 2 guy in some games as well....Not just default it to TE who needs a lot of seasoning....Perkins I bet if used in the right way would be quite effective....it's not like he is a raw rookie

He's improved, but by that I mean he's gone from a Dumpster fire to the usual level of NI we stretch into a role they shouldn't be in. He's better then Korny. If he keeps improving at the rate he has this year, he might actually be worth playing the reps he gets before the play offs.
  20. Jake Paul is suggesting that he's better than most current NFL receivers and reports that many NFL teams have reached out to him. I'm sure this has caught the attention of the Argos (maybe machoochoo in Montreal) and are probably calling an urgent meeting to statregize on how to sign him.

Who subs in for the new dime pack is the thing to watch for sure. If we are going with hallett and kelly we are gonna get cooked. I hope thats not it, but im not holding my breath. Williams has been the best db by a decent bit this year, he's faced the most pressure at his spot but done very well. He's had a couple rookie plays, but the rest of the secondary is regularly confused and making evne worse mistakes. It's time for the famous JY mid season secondary adjustment. Any game now, please? lol

To be clear, I'm not defending Osh's roster decisions - his not using the designated national rule is practically a fireable offense. But I think you're way underestimating the input of years of assistant coaches. Yes, he's head coach, but you know that assistants, and GM, have opinions about everything. Coaching staffs don't work in isolated silos. And, if the consensus was that Eli was clearly a better option than anyone, clearly destined to be an above average CFL center, the chatter would be overwhelming. I suspect while there may have been some diverging opinions, the perception was that he was equivalent or just marginally better than the other options. There clearly wasn't a strong enough consensus to really pound the table for him. If you want to place blame, let's go with the GM for not reacting to the fact that since Couture, Goosen, we have had below league average play at center. And how about our future Hall of Fame, Cup winning, multiple times concussed QB? You think they would have ignored his opinion if he felt very strongly about Eli over any of the other options? QB's don't make the final personnel decisions, but you know future HoF'ers have a ton of influence, especially over a center! There is a world, crazy as this seems to the Eli fan club (myself being a former member) that ZC felt better with Kolo and Elsbury there. Not sure why, but could be. This!

Yeh Jackson has that Strong Safety look and ability to him and that role wont be foreign to him as he has a lot of experience doing so....Bigger and more athletic than Kramdi and is actually a guy well versed in coverage I think we see more of Smith again rotating in for WILSON/Jones depending on what role they playing in certain looks...for whatever reason last game Smith hardly saw the field...so hopefully its the reverse this game And agree...still some weaknesses yet to be adressed...or is it even recognized?..Thats probably the bigger question. And our interior dline needs Lawson back sooner than later if we are not gonna adress it Schmeck is good for a role and certain packages...not as a legit rotation...Korn is just not a legit pro...And if anyone wants to see why..this game if he gets snaps watch...he will either get blown off line and be irrelevant...or a olineman will engage him and he cant get free...and aagain...be useless....maybe then people will see why he is a wasted spot At least Schmeck will help us in short yardage defence...he is crazy god at knifing into where he needs to be and was one of the best exploding out of stance at snap believe it or not...and he also helped a lot in our short yardgae on offence Not sure if his injury will affect that...but he has become a good back end add to the roster used in that specific role...and the odd defensive snap

No reason to bring Hallett on the field...We have 6 Canadians on offence so only need 1 on defense...if thats how we set the ratio...So just Kelly alone on every snap is all we need. But Smith rotating in will not hurt us and in certain down and distance where its more than 5 yards...swapping him in for Jones or Wilson and even taking out Kelly and putting Jackson at safety would make our defense more than good. @DTonOB can you clarify/confirm for us what our ratio requirements are for offence/defence as it doesnt actually say on any depth chart I think Griffin has been our most reliable guy not playing on the dline...All around he possess the best game of anyone....Fast....Physical...can cover 1 on 1...can actually tackle and doesnt dive at shins...He's been our best guy all 6 games...Holm has been steady as Holm is...but has his weak spots and still think he be best served for us as a safety I will bet anyone we wont miss Kramdi at all this game...and I bet we may even see one of our better defensive performances to date...Especially if we use the roster right and dont exclude Smith and Jackson from quality reps

My biggest concern is that we are going to bring Hallett on the field in our two safety sets... if we really need a second Canadian in the back 8, it better be Kelly and Smith with Jackson playing the second safety role... I don't know anything about Jackson but I'll trust @wbbfan and @Booch 's analysis on him... My overall concerns with the team still remain... Defense: On on the back end of the D, Holm is basically the only reliable player... Williams has been ok but is prone to mistakes... Moxey doesn't look like the answer at corner... and despite is all-star pedigree, Nichols has gone from stud to liability real quick this year... Offense: the OL has had their ups and downs... hopefully we see an up game against Calgary's strong DL... we desperately need a playmaker at receiver... Wilson and White are both solid, but neither is a game changer... if had a true #1 with Wilson, White, and Demski as the secondary options, this O would be absolutely humming... not sure where this magical stud WR is coming from... but one can wish!
  44. The stats are based on the current reality of only going for 2 a small percentage of the time. If teams started going more often, the number of successes would likely go down as defenses would change to stop them.
  45. And he explains this basically every free agency period. If you spend above average in one position, obviously you have less to spend somewhere else.

Counter point: we had several different OCs who thought Kolankowski was the right move at centre yet he goes to Hamilton and immediately he isn't a good enough option to beat out a converted guard (who was also here for a time mind you) so I don't buy that the appeal to authority is necessarily the right call here.
  48. 1 point
MOS is constantly berated on here for being too loyal to not good enough NAT vets, yet when he replaces a dud like Eli it's a mistake? The goal posts are not very consistent in these arguments for sure. If Eli is not in there it is almost certain it is because the coaches do not like his game. PERIOD. He's a NAT, if he were considered equal or close to Elsbury he would be playing. History has taught us that about MOS. Some guys are hanging onto a hard on/hate on for players based on what they were/promised to be 5-6 years ago. The reality is Eli is not a good starting OL. We let a boat load of talent walk away. We invested picks and let them walk because KW didn't want to pay the market rate for some guys. Let's not pretend that the last few years of NAT talent walking out the door didn't happen. Retention is key to having a good NAT stable of horses. We let way too many walk.
