  1. Another great piece from Tait, on Dante Daniels. Hard not to root for a guy like this & it sounds like he'll bring some of the attitude we've been missing. “My coach always says, ‘You’re one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met, but you’re a dickhead on the field,”” Daniels laughed. “On the field, I’m a completely different person." 1st & 10 | Dante Daniels' long road to Winnipeg - Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Aussie Rules Football (AFL) have been using this playoff system for 25 years. I also love CFL football so I like more games does not cheapen regular season. How many times the past few years everyone game week 18 meant nothing and it was full of pack ups pretty much every team will have something to play for the last week. Also will have less match ups were one teams does not care and the other is a must win down the stretch.

Some changes to the cap and rosters sizes for 2026. I like the additional reserve roster and PR For the 2026 CFL season, both sides agreed $50,000 will be added back to the salary cap, totalling $6,330,514 per team. The salary cap cannot decrease while the current collective bargaining agreement is in place and all revenue sharing growth will continue to get added to the cap. Meanwhile, the players received permanent increases to weekly training camp compensation — first-year veterans will earn $725, second-year veterans $825, and three-year plus veterans $925. Starting immediately, each franchise will have the ability to designate up to two players on a reserve roster each week with no changes to the ratio or roster composition, creating 18 additional fully-paid jobs. Practice roster sizes have been increased by two, with a Canadian filling one of those new spots. Also, language has been cleaned up when it comes to the injured lists, marketing money, and Nationalized Americans. https://3downnation.com/2026/04/30/cfl-players-association-record-wins-through-2027-grey-cup-playoff-expansion/

I hoping with Condell he has some sway to get that versatile DI that can be used on offence and return...And if Vval lands a CB spot and does dual duty it be nice to be able to give him a breather here and there The Bailey and Nuer combo...Both being non counters for a DI spot is gonna be huge and give us something we havnt had in a while...A pure speed guy off the edge in Nuer and a guy in Bailey who is flying under most peoples radar who can speed rush and bull rush even though he isnt a bigger end....plus he has shown he is a disciplined looking run stopper guy...It be a shame if both were not on the roster, but it's a high probability they will be...and lets hope JY gets free range in how and who he gets to use in rotations...A front in some sets with Ceresna...WJ...Bailey and Nuer...of who all can be off the edge would give olines fits With the guys we are returning....who we drafted and a couple interesting new signings...I can see JY having a real high octane defense this yr, and if we roster it correctly a large amount of the guys who arent "starters" per say being able to freely rotate in with no drop in play and keep us fresh all game long
  6. The dream has ended. (unless Noel was removed from the neg list because he is going to be signed by the club)
  7. Some roster moves and a minor front office shuffle: Added to roster: National defensive lineman Carter Hooper (6-5, 265, South Dakota) National linebacker Charles-Elliot Bouliane – 2026 CFL Canadian Draft selection National receiver Joshua Jack – 2026 CFL Canadian Draft selection National linebacker Brody Clark – 2026 CFL Canadian Draft selection National tight end Dante Daniels – 2026 CFL Canadian Draft selection Transferred to Retired: American running back J.J. Taylor American offensive lineman Ben Dooley The club also announces title changes in the team’s personnel department, with Jim Jauch moving to Assistant General Manager, and Danny McManus shifting to Senior Assistant General Manager. Both individuals play crucial roles in scouting for the organization. Blue Bombers transactions - April 30 - Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Did I misread it then? Week 1 1v2 3v4 Week 2 Loser of 1v2 vs winner of 3v4 Week 3 Winner in week 2 vs. Winner of 1v2 Let's say #1 beats #2 in week 1. Wouldn't they have to beat them again in week 3? Whereas the loser of week 1 only has to beat them once, plus a lower seeded team.

I think they see Taylor as a kr guy..and if we have the ability to dress him as one our designated imports he could be a nice change of pace on offence too..or in 2 back sets with BO With the end we drafted...and what i expect to see more a role with Smith and Shay and less a need for an extra import LB and rotational end...especialy with Bailey too can see it being very feasable to have a guy like that as a returner/rb option. That and or another stud legit inside DT type guy. We have Woodbey..JSK..Ayers..Wilson..T.Jone..Griffin..and a couple real intruiging import rookies coming into camp..we have a glut of will and Mac guys..as well as Kramdi.. Smith and Shay...so a real logjam of guys at Will Mack and Sam and in all honesty Woodbey..Griffin..Smith..and Ayers could all handle the sam role just fine too and bump Kramdi to safety...interesting how we deal with them and who gets bumped off roster...or how we gonna configure the roster...based on the sets we ran last yr and our favoring depth guys for teams I could see all being on roster especially with 3 of the mentioned being Canadian. And the fact that Griffin..Woodbey..Ayers..JSK..Smith and Kramdi can play multiple spots at a starter level...makes it even more likely.
  12. So post-draft, our remaining needs break down as follows; Wr. We have 23 dbs and 16 wrs. For sure, need a couple more imp WRs for camp. DE. 18 ol vs 13 DL. Specifically, 2-ish Nts and another pass rusher or two. A backup LS and another KR or two are really needed for camp and insurance for Vaval. If we are going into the TE market, we need to work someone like Schmekel into that backup some, and bring in at least 1 more guy for camp reps. Otherwise, the depth is in a really good spot going into camp.

should bode well and become one of Osh's fav's as thats exactly what Osh was on the field haha...actually he was a dirty assbag but hid the dirty part pretty well from Joe Average fan...but IYKYK and actually looked for it....But if this kid can bring it...and is used as more than just a glorified OL end...I can't wait to watch him evolve and add an element to our offence we sorely needed yup...I hope the addition of him actually drives us to utilize and develop him...and in effect will be a huge bonus for MCI as it would get him doing the same...I gig assed guy to dominate in close in one on one matchups with a huge advantage...and another physical freak over 220 pounds who is also one of the fastest guys on our team...within the 5 yard line and the ability to have BO...MCI and Dante's Peak all on the field together...how can you not be stopped?...Especially with Hogan no longer calling then shots
  16. best players are always that way. His coordination, balance, agility, and body control are fantastic for a guy soo big and who has mainly been a blocker. Strong natural hands as well, without bad catching habits. I think Zach is gonna love this kid as a pressure release target. If he drops 10-15 lbs, gets a tad faster, and learns to waggle some, he is going to be a deadly multi-use guy. I can see a whole lot of mike sellers in him.
  17. That would be great. I'd love to see vaval take a step forward as a db this year and be able to be the bench dime. We need all the help with DI flexibility we can get. Imagine if we used the naturalized american designation on WJ? Start Nuer on paper and wj can balance half the games reps as a canadian. Oh yeah, the D should be exceptional this year. Anticapting no rookies starting or being a primary rotational guy unless they beat guys who've been here. Tons of play makers all over the field, depth, versatility both positionally and ratio wise. JY is gonna have some real tough decisions to make. This is the type of camp cuts that is both haunting and mouth watering for coaches.
  18. The nature of pro sports is what was old gets revived again sooner or later. Daniels, if he pans out, could give the Bombers the old-fashioned tight end who could block on running plays and smoke d-backs on short/screen plays and be a threat as a receiver. A receiver of that size in full flight would cause many clenched sphincters among 170lb defenders.
  19. Let's not be hasty. Before we cut Goalie we need to make sure his replacement is in the MBB new member pipeline. Don't want to pull a Mike Kelly and replace Goalie with Stefan Lefors!
  20. I'm sorry but we're going to have to let you go.

as a former player...I have never seen or know of a player playing to not win...and the ones who loafed cause a game apparently meant nothing, or half arsed it didnt hang around long. nobody likes to lose even of it's a meaningless game....or even pre-season, as for attendance....season ticket sales are what they are and 1st game...last game...its the same net revenue...as for walk ups....more fan friendly weather for the last few games of the yr, may actually have more people in the stands...as it is and has been...a lot of late season games that had meaning in a lot of places were not attended as well, soley based on weather....And to have the Grey Cup earlier and more than likely avoiding for most part sub -15 or worse temps....who's opposed to that?

Round one eliminates 2 teams. The losers of the 5v8 and 6v7 match ups.
  23. 2 points
In the current system you might play the same team 3 times in the regular season, 1 in the preseason, and 1 in the playoffs. Now it could be 2 in the playoffs. That's exacerbating an already bad situation. An 18-game season to eliminate 1 team is dumber than an 18-game season to eliminate 3 teams. Round 1 doesn't eliminate any teams. Think of it as an extra regular-season game, because playoff games should always be win or go home. Teams 1-6 get a home playoff game either in the first round or the 2nd. Teams 7-8 get an away game. Team 9 is a goner.

Just to visualize the new play off structure I looked at last year's standings. Does the AFL have only 9 teams where 8 make the play offs? This play off format does work... with at least 12 teams minimum. When you have a 89% chance of making the play offs... how does it not cheapen the season?

There are a lot of people criticizing the new play-off structure without understanding how it works. 1v2 in week 1 are the divisional showdowns. But the other games are not confined to the west/East. It's #5v8 and #6v7. In round two, the match-ups are reseeded. And in round three they are reseeded again. It's one of the reasons teams wont be able to "clinch" and rest their starters. You're not just in a season long battle to be in the top 2 in your division, you also are trying to have a better record than the two top teams in the other division. Your record will dictate your match-up in each round of the play-offs. Problems this is solving: People complaining that weaker East teams are getting home play-off dates ahead of more deserving West teams A 1st place team only needing one win to make the Grey Cup Revenue More play-off games when negotiating the new TV deal = even more revenue Players Union negotiated a bunch more money out of this deal 8/9 teams makes people believe the opposite, but this format actually increases the stakes for most teams later into the season Trade offs: More games and money necessitated more teams to compete

Write it down folks. Goalie and I agreeing on something. Next thing you know gas prices be under 1.5 Earlier start, earlier finish. Bout time. I was thinking with the longer playoff maybe we should cut back 2 games but we’re still finishing early Nov so what’s the point. For all the changes I wish Stu would throw the country a bone and award the 10th franchise to whichever city builds a 20-25k stadium first.
  33. On linebackers, if we start Tony Jones and Woodby, you have Shay and Smith as backups potentially. I could see one DI so let's say Santos-Knox, so that means you have to let go off Kyrie, correct. I am assuming Sergio as 1 DI, Vaval as a second, one linebacker and one Dlineman.
  34. Wilson was in last year Global Draft and with Calgary last year.

either didn’t value the guys available, which with the rare combination of size and established high level teams play/blocking that was available seems odd, or just valued the guys we have highly. Good for clercius bad for corcoran. Not a big deal really. pretty good draft. filled our biggest need with the best player in the draft at that position, de. Got a top tier ol futures. plus some intriguing fit potential. considering ott took the next big hback available, either they thought he’d be gone, or just wanted to secure the guy. Don’t hate it, this is the draft to do that in. We will know by how heavy he comes into camp. It could go either way really. Maybe when he’s 100% they really like how he runs and thinks he can play a bunch of positions and roles for us. Maybe they want to go te sets instead of having a guy like clercius block half his snaps. But if you’re in it for the blocker, he wouldn’t need to add much weight and canadian tackle prospects are not common. I’m all for the cfl evolving to use 11 formation. If you like this kids hands, and blocking, it’s easy to see the value in him even if he starts out as a package and heavy set guy. I hope to see some 5’10 210 lbs sam trying to block and cover this 6’6 275lbs kid.

The playoff format, while stupid, will not be as big of an issue as the 18 game season will remain to be. Any given season quite likely that almost 1/5 of regular season games will basically be meaningless in September and October for playoff positioning. The league is too small and the season too long to make this format work. So they can celebrate having more playoff games, but they will be playing a bunch of games with no stakes, lowered TV ratings and struggle to sell tickets depending on the market.
  38. 1 point
That is correct. But that also means we need to fill the dime db spot without another DI. Woodbey and the griffin dime spot is gonna be tight on the roster. Hooper has a very good to chance to be a Hubert type fit.
  39. JJ Taylor and Ben Dooley added to the retirement list. Not surprised at all about Taylor. Seems like a rare win for all involved. Teams can possibly host an additional playoff game and all the revenues that provides. Players get an extra bonus check on top of their salary. The additional revenue from the premium games should help to bump up the salary cap and make the tv rights more attractive which are due to be finalized soon

Bombers and jets have played on the same days in the past. They will again in the future. Non issue. I don’t think there’s that many dual season ticket holders. Jets basically cost a house for season tickets. Bombers = a trip to Costco. Bombers = family. Jets = The rich and wealthy now. Also you could make the argument that the bombers are actually more popular than the Jets in Winnipeg. They charge way less. Draw way more and they make about as much as the jets do in 42 games compared to 9 maximum 10 games for the bombers. Plus a big one, less d bags at football games than hockey ones. Jets would be better off if a guy like Wade was running them and not chipman (recent rumours suggest he might be kind of a big problem) yeah the owner. Yup. Kyle and Chevy are similar I’d say. Jets haven’t had an O’Shea tho. Maybe Maurice was close but not quite.
