Back to Back - Blue Bombers vs Riders Pre-Game Chat

Just crazy to think... If we sweep these two games we'll be 8-4 , tied with the gappers and we'll have the tie breaker. I'm cautiously optimistic7 points -
Jake was always that high effort rotational depth Canadian that had a use... but now he's treated like he's prime Doug Brown.... which is insane. Even when he was good he was still just depth.6 points

2025 CFL (Non-Bombers) Season

I'm not convinced a larger Social Media presence would help all that much. Like others have mentioned. This is a Family driven league basically. Create events people want to bring their kids to and help build those core memories for kids under 10. I still remember begging my dad to go to a game against CGY during the reinbold era. My dad just didn't want to go because they were going to lose. But I just liked going for the fun stuff like the pregame watching on the grass as they warm up. Running around the stadium ramps. And the food! We had the entire section to ourselves basically. I remember that game clearly, they got **** kicked but I didn't care, I just wanted to be there.5 points -
In the grand scheme of social media, that's really not a lot. I would say Travis Kelce (1.5 million X followers) wearing a Bomber jersey is something that got more views than anything Wilson has done. That said, yeah the CFL has often been it's own worst enemy when it comes to promoting itself. When a guy like Kelce gives you free advertising like that, you should run with it but I don't recall seeing anything from the league,5 points

i mean top tier arm talent, and some really impressive intangibles. he also has played the canadian game and needs to adjust to pro speed not nearly so much to cfl O/D. one year on a pr in the nfl is ideal for his development imo. after that you gotta really get into action to improve. The flashes he showed in pre season are really encouraging. lots of guys with arm talent, but for a guy to make the biggest step up in competition and immediately be competitive and comfortable is huge.5 points

This is for sure the way. Kids tickets are quite affordable. I've been taking them to games for 3 years now. They love biking to the game, hanging out in the pre game area getting their face painted and having the bouncers and games around to play. Everyone in our section is very friendly and there are lots of high fives to be had. A lot of the kid friendly concessions are inexpensive. The ability to bring our own single serve snacks is great. I used to bring devices to keep them occupied into the second half when their attention started to wane a bit.. some games with earlier start times would help with that but I've even weened them off of that. For entertainment bang for you buck it is right there are you are going to be there 3-4 hours easy. Taking them to the movie if you don't get the Costco deal is going to be $20 a head for 2 hours. Rec Room you are going to burn through that probably an hour. Even Hide n' Seek is about $20/head for however long they last.3 points

Giants bring in anyone and their mom for workouts....some mom's I hear fared well but the politics of the NFL did them in hahaha Pokey should just suck it up and realize he not got a chance down there...If a guy like Polk came back and isnt concerned with playing the dance....a guy I would take over Wilson any day....Pokey should realize that he has zero shot too and being 2 yrs older than Polk...and not the desired NFL body type isnt doing him any favors3 points

In all honesty I dont really understand why they dumped Woli...he just turned 30 this yr and was probably performance wise one the more reliable guys we had game in and game out And not like he was an injury magnet...missed 4 games in 2022 and guy came back with a brace from that MCL injury and played just fine Last yr got ribs busted from suicide passes and getting the gritty yards, so why he was tossed away before his bonus...which wasnt much either was pretty short sighted considering the pickle we in with Canadian receiver depth ...receiver depth in general really.....and in this lame offence as well...A dependable guy who you can trust and your QB had great chenistry with as he always knew where to be for ZC....just dumb And he made peanuts too really when you look at his salary and what he gave you If he was available via trade thats one to definitely make3 points

You know Elgersma has a better chance of being struck by lightning than to actually make a team & start in the NFL. They don't spend the money or time developing free agents when a ton of guys are signed, cut & are available on the open market. The best Elgersma can hope for is a PR career or maybe third string. It's also difficult to be on the active roster even as a backup when veteran qbs like Carson Wentz, Tanner McKee, Anthony Richardson, Jimmy Garappolo, Bryce Perkins, Andy Dalton, Tyson Bagent, Jameis Winston, Sam Howell, Kenny Pickett & the ageless Joe Flacco are around.3 points -

It's not that irrelevant when we have the wizardry to carry one backup and thats who comes in if a guy goes down...like we saw...or 2 Who would you rather see out there again as the backup..Woli or Corcoran?.....seems like a pretty easy choice and relevant one to me...His presence out there would garner attention and make some space for our other guys as well.. He wouldnt be brought back to be the guy....but augment what we had and offer proven vet experince...not like the dude is over the hill in Biggie/Thomas territory by any means His presence would give us a bette roster than with one of Cobb or Corky they didnt wanna pay him and figured Clercius was ready...which he is....but had zero depth behind him tho...poor foresight3 points

this is a little bit revisionist... most would agree he was a nice quality rotational piece on the DL... up until about 2021... my fondest memory of him (and what I would consider essentially his last useful play as a Bomber) was his bullrush that led to a holding call in OT of the 21 GC... that penalty negated a good run, put Hammy into 1st and 20, which became 2nd and 18, and the rest is history... Jake should've went out on top after that year2 points

The UFL has no agreement with the cfl when it comes to honoring contracts or rights last I heard. Is it still going to exist? I'm doubtful. But even if it does fail, another spring league will take its place. If he sits the whole year down there, though, we lose his rights next year. I think it's just a case of they recognize how good his talent and how coachable he is, and want to see him up close to make sure they don't miss out on a 1 in a million shot. Elgersma doesn't help us this year, no matter what. But he might be our only real QB hope for the future currently. They especially love to kick the tires on Canadians. I think giving him a really fat signing bonus and the promise of release for NFL signings in the off season is the best bet for us. Other wise I bet he kicks around for another month easy.2 points

he was huge for the receiver room right until he left, and what he brought (attitide/toughness and leadership)and showing guys how to play was really missed....Guys still here after he left were in constant communication with him...he was a true leader here...and came up big when it mattered too2 points

Thomas had his contract expire, and was brought back late before camp. Lucky also had his contract expire as he ended the year on the PR. Houston left as a free agent, and Castillo did as well. I will say we've seen him bring back TC camps later in the year, and guys from previous camps, etc. I do not believe mos had any thing against adams or bringing him back. I think Darvin got to a point where he had a bounce back year on a bad team making a big big chunk of money, and the only interest in him was vet min type deals. So he moved on from football. I really liked what darvin brought, and as a person he is a great guy. I think he chose a great time and way to walk away. He played a full 18 game season for the first time in his career, he put up good numbers, walked away healthy, and with 2 rings. He isn't a guy who gets talked about alot in the 19 run, but boy he was big for us in those play offs. Right? No one is going to long for the return of Jake. His best football was in 19 and prior. And even in 19, we had stove and nevis as well. He is so far removed from being a guy you'd want it's sad.2 points

Noeller and one other reacted to Bigblue204 for a topic
They have done a bit with that. But Wilsons exposure on the CFL to 145k isn't the honey bucket it seems. Truth is even if you follow someone on there, it doesn't mean you're seeing their content.2 points -
Ottawa didn't cut him - he only signed a 1 year deal and played all 18 games for them so he was a free agent. The fact that nobody else signed him after a nearly 1000 yard season (949 to be exact) suggests that maybe he was done with ball? If guys like Sheed were still getting looks from teams, you'd have to think Adams would as well.2 points

Luke Willson has 146.9 K followers so when he says something on X a lot of people read it. He's done more for the CFL in half a season giving the league exposure on social media than the CFL has done for itself in the past decade. So, you can sit there, whine, complain, think he's irrelevant & be a numpty, I guess.2 points -

And that means absolutely nothing. They decided to move on from Jake Thomas in 2018 and the ******* guy is still here so they definitely aren't opposed to bringing players back. That said - this is a nothing burger debate since there have been no rumours or intel suggesting this is even a possibility. A poster with zero credibility posted a link to his Ticats profile and people went a bit nuts over it.2 points -
agree with Booch -- I think Wilson's play breakdown is pretty good, especially for a sideline reporter. He zeroes in on the key elements of the play and points out the error or the achievement. No sugarcoating. I remember a game this year where Edmonton's OL was getting absolutely perforated ... Wilson broke down the breakdowns crisply and did not hesitate to call out the guy making the mistake -- one of them was an OL caught flatfooted by a stunt / blitz who gave up a lane right into Fajardo's lap. As an on-camera personality I think Wilson improves the broadcast. As a twitter personality, whatever.2 points

Makonzo on for Kramdi...and play so you cant take him off...I can see it happening2 points

Not to nitpick or challenge your post....but he had 8 yrs...fairly solid ones at that in terms of TE stats for a NFL tight Emd who wasn't an offence's key guy NFL fams with casual interest may check in to see whats up if they see he is doing something with league, but ;ike you said youngins and people who are just your average fan would have zero clue, but he does offer more on how he breaks some stuff down and what he contributes to the in-game analysis than that screechy Clair and Britt Dort who Rider fans think is some god....The girl in CGY is good tho and will get better CFL just needs to onboard themselves with the way leagues and companies now market themselves online with social media and fan interaction....thats where they slipping big time2 points

Who on here is going to want this? The vets that people speak about wanting back are guys who at least at one point "excelled" and were bright spots on the team. At no point that I can remember of anyone who thought Jake Thomas "was the man". My only memories of him going back is that he's a guy that "doesn't get hurt" and has been around a long time.1 point

They'll make room for Elgersma in a heartbeat. He'd probably take Wilson's spot for now. He'd be on a CFL rookie deal for the next 3 years. It would be advantageous financially to bring Elgersma in. I find it funny how some here are surprised he was cut by the Packers & then waived thru the NFL. Same thing happened to Rourke. An undrafted qb who at least played D1 NCAA. But he was a Canadian, never played 3 down football at any level, wasn't drafted & signed with the Falcons as a free agent. Rourke a very good pre season but was waived thru the NFL. he saw the writing on the wall & decided to come north back to the Lions. Elgersma may want to wait to see what he feels are his best options are. Speaking of Rourke, I hear l'il bro Kurtis is on the non football injured list still recovering from reconstructive ACL knee surgry he had after his final college season in 2024. I believe he'll be up here on the Riders roster at some point after he recovers. Trump is talking about using an Executive Order to get rid of Nil as there are some real problems they're having in college with the amount of money these kids are making. The pendulum has certainly swung the other way.1 point -

Youth Football. I'd bet the Bombers are close to if not the team with the largest investment into youth football in their province. New equipment/jerseys/coaching/funding for flag/camps etc etc. Hell they just bought the entire league T-shirts that are branded heavily with Bomber colours and logos. Along with the team the kid plays for. Every kid on my team knows at least a couple Bombers. A good chunk based their jersey selection off Bomber player numbers. Even when asked if 88 is for CeeDee Lamb...the kid said no...Wheatfall. Not to mention the recruitment from up north and flying people in to watch games. I don't know what MLSE does to help out amateur football in ON. But I'd say it's likely not enough.1 point -
NFL is also different than up here...IR guys also count against the cap...may not be their full salary as some don't necessarily get their actual full non guaranteed amount....but none the less it counts along with the PR guys, so teams need to really be aware of where the cap is being spent, so a guy they may view as a real long shot project...or one who may never evolve into a legit starter, they won't waste their time on...and money1 point
