  1. Ed Tait and Randy Turner articles the day after a game were great stuff.

  2. Riders winning the Cup in our barn is nightmare fuel.

  3. Tait is a good writer and always was. He's got a nice job being the Bombers hype man right now but that doesn't diminish how he set himself apart based on his work prior to taking that gig.

  4. OL Justin Mayers out of Colorado has been added to the PR. Went to Broncos mini-camp this year but got cut. Played Guard throughout his NCAA career. Listed at 6'4", 320. Pure guard. Interesting add.

  5. You don’t want OL chasing guys across the field. They are making a pocket. The issue on that first INT is Streveler staring down his first read and then IMO (others I respect who know about football disagree) the throw he made was extremely inaccurate for the guy he was targeting (Wheatfall). IMO that ball is behind Wheatfall and short, potentially because Streveler pulls up at the end realizing he’s throwing into a pile of Argos downfield. The first read stare down is a big part of all the sacks too. You’re watching a QB that was one read then **** it check down to my legs. But the legs don’t work anymore. He isn’t a guy that can operate in the pocket at the speed of these games as a passer. The biggest problem with Streveler in there is complete inaccuracy in that intermediate 8 yard to 20 yard range. It’s basically a coin toss if it’ll be an INT every time. And you can see that weighing on him. He’s thinking and everything in the pocket is moving too slow unless he’s just throwing to a spot, which can also be dangerous for turnovers. The velocity combined with being a catchable ball isn’t there. And it’s way worse than Collaros. You can go to the well with the backfield motion, levels kind of plays where he has flat option, out/corner option and run option. But run option is all but dead. He’s not setting his feet to throw and there’s no hip rotation. He’s throwing from his right shoulder, nothing from the core and lower body. They are squeezing as much as they can out of him IMO.

  8. The hack part was a step too far but how do you justify this "one of the greatest writers the CFL has ever known and a dyed-in-the-wool Bombers fan"? It's pretty hard to be an objective writer when one is a big fan and then throw in that he's also on the Bombers' payroll, at least that's my understanding?

  9. He should be getting looks on defence...if we were letting Hallett play...both him and Shay should be getting reps

  11. They used to get into it on the radio in O’shea’s early years when we were losing. I definitely don’t think they go out for beers after games.

  12. Upon watching the condensed game , I don't understand giving up fully on Strev. His mobility is gone but he was able to throw short, medium, and an innaccurate deep ball. I don't see any issues with his arm. I saw zip and he had a few nice short passes that were feathered into the receivers arms. The three ints were not awful as well. The first int happens to every QB in the league, it happens. 2nd int was a bit of bad luck and being only slightly off on his throw. The 3rd was a jump ball in which if we had Carlton Agudosi at receiver it would of been a TD. It wasn't a Zach like interception where he tosses a ball into triple coverage for no good reason at all. I'd like to see 4 - 5 games with Strev as the starter to see what we have. If he fails then at least we know the move on from him.

  13. That Sask defense is. And Trevor Harris is playing the best football of his career. If we don't improve rapidly and get Collaros back (the 2021 version) the Labour Day Classic could get real real ugly.

  15. What an incredibly ignorant thing to post about one of the greatest writers the CFL has ever known and a dyed-in-the-wool Bombers fan.... Jesus. Put some respect on the man's name.

  16. Counter point it took nearly a full half for collaros to out pass janarion grant last game. Thenoffense is pretty ******* limited with both qbs.

  17. I don’t know what to expect from a “healthy” ol at this point. We’ve had soo much turn over and it’s been soo long it’ll take forever for un healthy guys to get the rust off get their wind back and get back into a groove. Im encouraged by flashes from Randolph, Vanterpool, and Lofton. Lofton came back much better than I expected. At this point im hoping vanterpool gets healthy, goes back in at G, Lofton stays at LT, and rando at rt. My biggest hope for improvement is some how we see through Kola who suddenly can’t even snap reliably. Give me Eli or even Wallace at C. Let a unit like that play together for a month. Maybe Bryant is 100% for the stretch run that’d be great. I don’t want to see him run out at a fractional power. even at 100% he hasn’t been great this year. We are part way through the growing pains with guys like Wallace, Lofton, Randolph, and vanterpool. May as well see how far they can grow before the stretch run.

  20. He's getting his chance now... if it keeps looking like that then sure try something else. Wasn't working with collaros, we give streveler some games see what happens.

  26. I get that, but here is why it isn't just hate from me. 1, they've been beating up on teams like that, Montreal with no rb or qb. 2, They have the 2nd most points in the league, but their offense is mid-pack for TDS and bottom tier for FGs. 3, they have bad teams' cover play with unreliable k/p. 4, Their O is mid-pack in first downs, and their D is bottom tier in giving up among the most. 5, Their D is in the bottom tier for giving up TD drives, and only slightly better at forcing turnovers. 6, Discipline. They are the most penalized team in the league once again. 7, They are reliant on a bunch of old guys who have been pretty healthy so far. Harris, Micah, Rose, Hardrick, etc. McEwen and some WRs have been banged up. But in a league where every QB is hurt, and you have an old guy in Harris who's been healthy, it is just a matter of time until an injury hits that hurts their roster. 8, Ssk, is squeezing out a lot of close wins over banged-up teams. Finally, coaching. I think Mace is along for the ride on that roster. He's a good defensive coach, but he isn't the leader capable of getting that team to play disciplined, smart ball. They have a well-rounded offence, with a very good OL. It has the highest yards per play and the most big plays. They also have the best pressure front in the league. They are a good team. But they are a team that is peaking in the first 1/3 of the season. It is extremely rare, especially in the West, for that to pan out long-term. Montreal and Toronto are going to get a lot better when they get QBs back. Hamilton is already better. The riders probably have the best chance in the West of being a good team for an extended period of time. If Harris keeps playing. But I think they are a coaching change away from being a real GC contender.

  27. I like Streve....he has great hustle and can still run BUT why do I say 'OH NO' to myself, everytime he sets up to throw...Is it his unorthodox way he throws the ball...or is it his inaccuracy ??? I cringe when a lot of his passes look like they're going to get pic'd...You shouldn't have those concerns AND when he does have one pic'd off, my confidence in him as a no 1 takes a nosedive ...He still has time to prove he can be our starter BUT right now the confidence level in him is slowly fading...

  28. Plus: we don't know if the receivers are running the routes properly or if the play called takes advantage of opposition weaknesses. We do have pretty good proof that damned few of our receivers are disposed to fight for 50-50 balls.

  29. While I would love to agree with your comments I in all honestly, can not do so. After watching the Rider-Als game last night I believe the Riders are the real deal and IMHO it will be either Calgary or the Riders duking it out for a Grey Cup appearance in the Peg.

  30. Rider are legit, love em or hate em.

  31. Don’t you put that evil on me Ricky Bobby! Seriously though if it happens now it’s your fault lol. I don’t think the riders will be real competition for the cup. Calgary is the team out of the west. They got the D, the qb, the rb, WRs if they get healthy, and the brain trust. healthy Montreal and Toronto with Kelly out of the east too. Ssk is winning with smoke and mirrors, and so are we at this point.

  32. I’m talking talent brought into camp. We had a really good wr crop but also had schoen lawler etc. lber last year was very good but also blocked this time by biggie and kyrie. Garbutt isn’t a dt. Fox has been the best inside run stopper in the league. Guys are not talentless amorphous blobs of nothing until suddenly they produce and become some thing. You may not like guys or see the talent, doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

  33. Strev is not a gunslinger QB. Our gameplan needs to reflect that. He has to take his deep shots but it's got to be shots that only his receiver has a shot at. We were winning. Thats the bottom line in sports. Whatever the coaches were doing wrong they were doing enough right to make up for it. Now..not so much.

  34. I'm definitely not saying any of our QBs have been great lately by any stretch, but If the pocket is always collapsing around them, it's hard to judge if they're doing well or not.
    1 point
  35. Are the QB's making smart decisions, putting the ball where the receiver can make the play, and/or reading defenses at all? I say that is a big no (more so with Zach) so I would say the QB is the primary reason we are having issues. This isn't a case of a QB tossing a ball and it bouncing off receivers chests because they are inept.

  36. Thankfully the GC isn't won in August. Harris is playing well but I don't see it lasting.
    1 point
  37. For sure. I love his nose for making plays, great instincts and motor.

  38. I’d argue Zach is more limited. If he isn’t connecting on bombs consistently, which has only happened once this year and 2-3 times in the last year and a half, he can’t run any offence. We see his yards per attempt plummet to the depths. Atleast strevy is capable of running designed fast tempo timing stuff. He just isn’t capable of improving if that first look isn’t good. Zach needs big guys who can dominate 50/50 tosses down field. Strevy can succeed with a wider variety of wr types. It’s a bad position though, we don’t have the pieces or the system to support either.

  39. Yeah he should get 2 or 3 in a row for sure if anything to let ZC rest...he came into the rain game...then last night no real practice all week and a high-school level oc'd game and a div 2 quality recieving group...get a full week in this week...get some legit scheming..coaching...and talent around him...and see whats what...also gotta remember...hes barely 9 months removed from a complete knee rebuild...takes time to get the movement and running back
    1 point
  40. Imo, next to hc and OC is the hardest coaching job come game day. Even the prep work during the week is massive. If you’re a hc who doesn’t have a heavy hand in o or d, OC is likely harder. Or being an oc with a struggling qb. Hard, hard job. It also has one of the shortest shelf life’s. I would’ve expected our O to be much further along at this point, especially with Jackson as the qb coach. Hogan has had plenty of adversity, I’d be willing to give him more grace, if he had shown any flashes at all. But the problems are deep and the bright spots nearly none existent.

  41. Ya I think there's a healthy enough respect between them because they're both among the best to ever do it at their respective positions, but there was absolutely no love lost between those Bombers and Argos teams of the 2000s.... I'm sure there's some unresolved things.

  42. OL will get better, assuming big Stan is not out for the season. First game, they were a strength. Also, TO has weaknesses but they are not on the DL.

  43. Felt bad he works with uncultured swine! 😂

  44. Then why did we pay him like a stud receiver? You keep missing that part of this equation. I don’t think anyone here is clamouring for the use of Dillon Mitchell because we’re all long term members of his fan club. I think most of us are confused as to why we paid 150k annually to a guy who is turning out to be the 9th (at best) receiver on our depth chart.
    1 point
  45. He put up near that amount in only 9 games as a rookie. The potential is (or at least was) there, he's just never gotten back to that level. Don't know if he'll ever get back to that but we certainly won't know if he doesn't get a chance.
    1 point
  46. Doug Brown said on the pregame show that he believes there is an internal issue for why Mitchell isn't starting. When Ed Tait pushed back, Doug said: "I've seen this happen in locker rooms."

  47. There's a real lack of play making ability in the receiving corps at the moment. Bunch of OK guys, only Demski can make a play reliably and he's still better suited being 3 or lower in a truly good group.
