  3. That's exactly how it is. If he comes back to CFL he comes back to Bombers until end of his current CFL contract. If you watch any NCAA bowl game there's 2-3 guys per game better than a guy like Wilson. He'd do pretty good to make it through OTA's and into August. The NFL is completely saturated at receiver and he doesn't really have a way to make the game roster unless he's one of the top 3 receivers on a team.

  4. Meh 45 thousand more then Streveler made last year, and I’d argue he isn’t as valuable as Streveler was to Winnipeg.

  5. yeah will be a 4 man crew as opposed to 3....I didnt realize Penn was gone so thought we were rolling with 5 That being said I would have preferred an O.C announcement....as it will have some bearings on potential player signings....re-ups and new yeah...he is very well connected and will benefit us big time

  6. I really wanted Deslauriers to join our staff We didn’t release him early

  7. Jim Jauch, Eric Deslauriers and Brock Sunderland will be added to scouting staff...3 to replace 1 guy seems a bit odd but can never have enough scouts

  8. Parker would be a nice piece to slot in should they lose Ford.

  9. Good signing..if he is finally healthy and stays healthy is probably our best all around DB...versatile...one best tacklers on team too....and one of fastest

  11. Nope...early cut if he even makes main camp...he's a nickle a dozen in the meat grinder Schoen has the testing numbers...but in the NFL he had 2 strikes originally...walk on...Un drafted...then added his 3rd strike being a CFL invite..just way nfl works Yup...they will likely draft 2 guys better...plus any free agent pickup...I bet he doesn't last in main camp long if he even makes it to camp

  12. Insane to me that a guy like Wilson gets a shot based on his CFL resume which was pretty meh (if I was going to Madden rank him as a CFL player he’d be about 80 with some unrealized potential) but a guy like Schoen can’t get a legit shot. Even Lawler although there might be some emotional regulation analysis attached to him. I get age…although if you get 1-2 good years out of a UDFA guy you’ve done pretty good. Schoen is also the ideal kind of tweener slot receiver/tight end guy. Wilson doesn’t really have size or speed going for him at pro level. Can win in man, started to understand his job better with more time with Collaros as a rookie.

  13. I know it stings but honestly bringing in good young players on rookie deals is what gives teams flexibility with the cap. I’d rather find the next pokey then over pay for a vet.

  16. Yeah OC is what I'm most interested to hear about but I'm also happy about the new scouting group. We know the old crew could find DB's but were less successful in other areas so I wonder if we'll have more luck in those areas (DL & LB for me) with a new set of eyes?

  17. Jauch joins the Blue Bombers after spending the last three years with the B.C. Lions as their Director of U.S. Scouting. Jauch is the son of former Blue Bombers player and head coach Ray Jauch (1978-82 as head coach) and played five years in the CFL with Calgary (1989), Edmonton (1990-91) and Hamilton (1992-93) where he also played with his brother Joey. After his playing days Jauch became a college scout with the San Diego Chargers in 1994, joining the Cleveland Browns in 2006, where he was then promoted to Associate Director of College and Pro Scouting, a position he held until 2010. Jauch returned to the Chargers and worked with them from 2010-14 before joining the New York Jets as a National Scout until 2018. He then returned to Canada to become the Director of Pro Scouting with the Toronto Argonauts before heading to B.C. https://www.bluebombers.com/2025/01/10/blue-bombers-add-trio-to-scouting-staff/

  18. Love that pick up. He had his hand in soo many different areas of the Als football ops pie over the years. I'm pretty surprised he is parting ways after having been there as a player and front office type since 07.

  19. The Bombers article specifically mentions that the new guys will be working with McManus so it looks like he's staying put.
    2 points
  20. I am assuming Penn is not the last casualty here. We have hired 3 to replace 2. Not something regularly done in the Operations Cap era. I sure hope we aren't losing McManus as well.

  22. Pretty much. Great to have that guy in the room too. Yep. Hes also the most physical DB on our roster, maybe the most physical and imposing guy on our whole D. He's not physically big at all, but he's an outlier like Grant. Just built different. Runs around smashing WRs and Rbs. He was damn good at Sam, and If he gets back to his old self he could be a prime candidate for a long term S replacement for BA. I feel like after last year, BA could play half again. But the physical side is just too much of a struggle for him to be S or in the run fits. Maybe another off season he gets even healthier and that changes. But it's hard to see happening at his age.

  23. yup.....no risk...high reward....and plug and play with no learning curve so if he breaks camp as a starter he hits ground running...another plus People forget if not for him saving our bacon coming outta nowhere to take down Rhymes on the Holm and Kramdi gaff...we wouldnt have been to 4 straight cups...let alone 5
    2 points
  24. Low risk, High reward move. He's still like 26 or 27. Hasn't started in an age. But such a beast. I'd love to see him healthy and back to his old form. I have no expectations at this point though.
    2 points
  25. He was, but I'm more talking about a camp shot. Not an immediate departure for part of the nfl season that overlaps. Some guys get an insane amount of chances and looks, especially at QB and KR. I can't count how many times guys cut and who didn't cut it up here go and get another NFL shot. Position depth plays a bit of a role in that, a long with a bunch of other factors. Soo many, it almost seems random some times. Oh this db who can't cover man is going to get 8 nfl TCs, 2 years on the PR and a hand full of games.

    All things considered...

Bottom line in pro sports is winning and asses in seats. Last 5 years both have been a regular occurrence. until that stops or changes aka losing and less asses in seats… here we are. Better to lose in the final tho than picking 1st overall.

  32. Yes, if the Bobby Orrs and Gordie Howes were born today at the same socio-economic level they were at in their generations, they'd have no hope of ever making it to the NHL as they never would be able to afford the equipment and wouldn't get on a hockey academy team as their parents couldn't afford the $30 - $40k per year fees and would just play house league and quit hockey at age 16. Hockey is the most elitist sport in the world now, I'd say.

  34. Just to reiterate this, since I’ve seen it mentioned a couple times in this thread. the Bombers didn’t do Wilson a solid at all, they don’t have a choice. I don’t know why teams typically word it as a release, it’s a player opt-out that the teams have no ability to deny as long as it’s within the time the option window is open (January 6 to mid-February) Wilson opted out of his contract and signed an acknowledgment that if he returns to the CFL, it’s under the terms of the previous contract he opted out of.

  35. Correct. He's done a bit of every thing else with them as well. "Jauch joins the Blue Bombers after spending the last three years with the B.C. He then returned to Canada to become the Director of Pro Scouting with the Toronto Argonauts before heading to B.C." Yep. In the end they did an excellent job for having to end up filling the boots of both Ted and Cyril. And I'm very happy for both ted and cyril getting great steps up in their career. Cyril is going to be a GM in a couple years if he wants it. All guys with high level experience as well. Gives us great flexibility moving forward.

  36. ahhh.....did not know that...was an up and comer Yeah Jauch is a good score and the other guys have league familiarity and connections...which wont hurt we released him early..as in a yr early......we did him a solid and if he fails he still belongs to us....so win win.....

  37. Deslauriers is a really strong Canadian scout correct? What is Jauch's background?
    1 point
  38. Jauch is a massive score. Very happy with that pick up. Deslauriers is a sneaky good pick up. Im expecting he will lead the canadian scouting. Sunderland is a kind of polarizing guy, thats a big surprise to me. Edit, All 3 get the title of Senior Director of Player Personnel.

  41. As a bad religion fan I appreciate the title. let’s go Jets. I hear they interested in a few d. Dumolin in Anaheim and lindgren in NYR. Both would replace Stanley on 3rd pair. Both defensive D men. So essentially you’d have your O D men aka Josh Pionk and cogs I suppose or miller when healthy paired with a defensive d man in demelo samberg and lindgren (Minnesota ties)

  42. It's true. Normally, such a dominant season, little on two, would propel you into another chance. He's more deserving than pookie. But I'll be more than happy to have him play his career here.

  43. When I started playing hockey all of my equipment was second-hand, purchased from a kid's parents. Do people still do this? I don't know if they even bother any more. There is a Second Hand Sports store here in Kelowna, but not sure how many parents bother buying second hand hockey equipment. To me now it's all the other costs associated - ice time, travel (gas, hotels) and the time. Hockey is a huge time eater for parents.

I coached football here in Calgary for many years at all levels. From atom (8-9) to pee wee (10-12) to bantam (13-14), high school to spring league (15-17 no grade 12's can play) & high school (15-18). At every level, the teams in the leagues provided the equipment at no charge. Teams fit their players & with the exception of the bantam league which owns all of their equipment & is stored in a warehouse somewhere in Calgary, the rest of the teams fund & replenish their own equipment storing it themselves in their own clubhouses. One of the attractions for kids to play football is that for a fee of $500-900 everything is provided for the players. Fees have shot up since Covid. the cost of equipment, especially modern helmets have increased significantly. A portion of the fees charged does go back to the leagues themselves but teams use the remainder of the fees to help finance running a team. Parents must provide a post dated cheque for up to $1500 if they decide not to return the equipment before a certain date on the cheque. It's a lot of money but only gets cashed if equipment is not returned. Why can't hockey do this?

  45. Not to the point of harassing people like Lyle Bauer in the way that he did which became very, very personal.. At first, it may have been amusing. Then it became strange like he was obsessed with Bauer. Nate has been banned almost everywhere on CFL social media. I think Nate has a couple of screws loose inside his head.

I normally don’t like Simmons but he’s not wrong at all. I mean I say this as a father to a daughter who has no interest in playing hockey, thank god cuz equipment is 5000 a year now a days so while I agree with Simmons, hockey has actually become a sport that only the rich and I mean really rich can play now and that’s a Canadian hockey and hockey Canada problem. I bought her a stick so we can play in the BYR and even that was like 100$. For a piece of whatever it is. It ain’t wood lol.
