  4. Dru Brown is not coming back. If he's successful, he'll stay in Ottawa. If he sucks, he's going to Regina. That's where you go when you suck.

  5. I believe it opens 9 days before free agency. So, if that's correct, with times being around noon Eastern. 7 Days open tampering window. February 4th to 10th. 2 days (48-hours) is non-tampering. February 11th & 12th. Free agency. February 13th.

  7. Longtime Stamps Left tackle Bruce Covernton passed away two days ago in his sleep. Apparently, he had a massive heart attack. He was only 57 years of age. I knew Bruce as he coached with me at Centennial High School in 2008 here in Calgary. Covernton was born in Morris, MB. After Covernton played HS football in Winnipeg, he attended Weber State & then was drafted by the Stamps in 1992. He played LT for them from 1992-98. Covernton was named the CFL's Western Division ROTY. Covernton was a CFL West Division All Star in 1993 & 94. He was named an All Canadian at Left Tackle in 1994. He was a two time Grey Cup Champion in 1992 & 98. Upon retiring, Bruce took up permanent residence here. He was an entrepreneur & was active in local charities in Calgary. He founded a company that imported coffee from Columbia. Then Covernton bought a personnel staffing company & it was very successful. He was quite a character & will be missed.

  8. I'm honestly baffled people thought he'd get less than 300k. After the Edmonton game I remember saying he just wrote himself a big cheque! Good for him. Hopefully it pans out.

  11. Good deal for Dru. Nothing but respect for him. Whether it was coming in and driving the Bombers for a game winning drive against Ottawa or coming from behind and beating Edmonton, I will always have fond memories of his play here in Winnipeg. The kid always to me had a pro ready arm. He could make those cross field throws with ease but this year I noticed the game started to slow down for him and his decision making really improved. Sad to see him go but not expected. He’s earned the opportunity to be a starter in the league.

  12. He was released from his contract to sign in the NFL so he is not on the Bomber's roster. The Bombers do hold his CFL rights for another year though. @TBURGESS would Ford need to sign a new contract with the Bombers or would he be on the last year of his original contract?

  13. Brown isn’t paid like the others either. He is being paid an entry level starter salary.

  14. According the CFL transactions Augustine has re-signed. They also have Demski being added to the roster but he was already on the roster. Normally if a player reworks his contract there is also a corresponding deletion from the roster.

  15. Additionally Harris signed a low value contract with the Als in 2022 and promptly took the starting job away from Vernon Adams after Khari was fired. He led them to a second place finish and an Eastern Final appearance in which he completed 25 passes out of 30 attempts for 362 yards and one touchdown in the 34–27 loss to the Argos. He's not a scrub and can make things happen when set up in a good offence with decent protection.

  16. You asked about reps, not years of experience, so that's what I showed you - a direct comparison of how many snaps they took. Besides, all of that "experience" isn't quite what you make it out to be when you look at what he did and how long he was with those teams. For example, how much experience did he gain in the 36 hours that he was signed to the Bills? The only team he actually got any game experience with was the Arizona Rattlers. I wouldn't say he got years of experience kicking around like that any more than I would say Tyrell Ford got a year of NFL experience last year. As far as his time as a starter goes, it started prior to Ottawa. Harris started 16 games with Toronto in 2015, when Ray was hurt so teams got a good look at him that year. He signed with Ottawa in 2016, and Burris had re-structed his deal so neither guy was making big money (for a starting QB) that season - they were both going to make around $250k + play time bonuses. Ottawa had structured both QB contracts in a way that it was clear Harris was the starter in 2017. Burris was going to make 200k in 2017 while Harris made 400k. Burris retired before the season so it didn't really matter in the end. https://3downnation.com/2016/11/24/henry-burris-trevor-harris/ Harris had led the league in passing TD's in 2015 with Toronto (was 3rd in passing yards too) so I guess that was enough for Ottawa to feel justified in the payout.

  17. We at least know the Redblacks hope and expect he’s going to be the starter. That’s why they traded for him and are paying him a starting salary.

  19. Yup and I'm assuming, if it's proven these players did nefarious things, that the Edmonton Oilers will sign them all.

  31. true......and agree....Ottawa was prob the worst place to go...next to SASK....and not just the Rider hate....but poor oline....nothing in the cupboard...and a 4.....5 yr track record now of a G.M not being able to solve it....for a young QB trying to make his mark.....u need a top tier O-line....not bottom rung

  32. He's done better than Arbuckle though. Harris isn't like Reilly either, he's somewhere in the middle. Brown could a Harris, Arbuckle or Reilly but time will tell (I don't like his odds in Ottawa though).

  35. Way more money than I was expecting. Good for Dru. Then again... "Brown will earn $290,000 in hard money in 2024" isn't $300K+

  37. There is not one person who is MAD at BO (whatever the hell that even means). There were some who didn't love the SoMed post, but even they admitted it's likely a generation gap thing. Most have said that if he wants to try and reset the market for RBs he's welcome to do that somewhere else.

  38. basically...holding his hand and training him...he sucked badly in the role by himself

  39. I wonder if Burmeister is here as a QB. His college career as a QB is about as good as anyone coming up to CFL.
    1 point
  40. Agreed. I was just pointing out that we don't technically need a back up NI RB with the way we've been using the roster lately.
    1 point
  41. we dont need BO for ratio reasons at all.....and if we can get 2 legit talents starting as imports, in lieu of his salary, one of which being his replacement, and keeps your team deep you do it everyday all day yup...this right here

  42. I think it was a very good question to ponder. It’s the exact situation we are in after all. That is certainly part of it. Because basically every rb at the minimum replacement level could be on an nfl roster. The nfl has known this and worked this way for a long while. At wr it’s harder to find that nfl roster quality player. Brady is 1000% a fifo guy. He’s a great player, person and team mate I have no question. If he played the rest of his career here I’d be happy. If he goes some place else I’ll cheer for him. End of the day I don’t have any emotional attachment to an individual player on this roster that is close to the attachment to the team and it being good. There is no guy I wouldn’t cut or trade to make the team better, if a better player was available. Though I do have it add, some times the team is more than the sum of its parts. If we replaced wj biggie yoshi and Bailey all with better players, we might well get worse due to shattering the locker room. That is a hard thing to gauge for the mafia who know the core intimately. Impossible for me or us on here to say where that line is.

  43. When you say “people” are you talking about me? If so, then you are disregarding the fact I said that I don’t blame him for wanting to get paid, that he is a great player, and would love to have him back. However, a giant RB contract doesn’t make sense for our team IMO. He can go reset the market somewhere else. That is essentially “I want free agent money” talk in the CFL. Certainly for a RB. But this has been explained many times now. You’re talking about the best WR in the league who has led the league in receiving TDs basically since he stepped on the field. We aren’t talking “really good”. We are talking all time level good. I know you want to make what I am saying into something more dramatic. I don’t value Oliveira as much as Schoen for the reasons that have been mentioned many many times about the position he plays. That is what it boils down to. The same way I would have loved to have Desjarlais back - but not at that price. Good for him, moving on.
