Just by a fluke I was on that flight back to Winnipeg as I had gone to the Labour Day game with my cousin who lived in Regina so I stayed the weekend at their place. I had never been on the same flight with the Bombers or any other pro sports team so it was quite interesting watching some players act like bad teenagers on the flight while the coaches seemed oblivious to the rowdy & raunchy behaviour going on around them. The 1974 season was a struggle so any win was probably just a joy for the coaches & players. Jonas was the best player on the field that day at Taylor Field. He was the hero ripping the Rider secondary for over 300 yards passing & brought the Bombers a victory on the final series where he led the Bombers downfield & Walt McKee kicked a walk off field goal on the last play of the game to seal the win for the Bombers. Don Jonas was not getting along with HC Bud Riley & GM Earl Lunsford. He had feuded with both & the Winnipeg media was all over it. A week or so previously Lunsford had commented that Jonas was having trouble reading defenses. Jonas, hugely insulted by that off the cuff remark angrily told Jack Matheson the sports editor of the old Winnipeg Tribune & beat writer for the Bombers that Lunsford had no idea what he was talking about. Jonas added that since Lunsford never came to any qb meetings or film sessions that he had no idea what he was talking about & should shut his mouth before critiquing him or any other player. Lunsford was furious. His huge ego just couldn't stand being criticized in the media. That was the beginning of the end for Jonas. No player could publicly insult Lunsford & get away with it even if the guy who did it was a former MOP of the CFL just 3 years earlier. And hugely popular in Winnipeg. Lunsford wanted Jonas gone & he began working on a deal to do just that while rocking the CFL at the time. On the late night flight home, Lunsford completed a trade that sent Jonas to Hamilton for QB Chuck Ealey who has been the 1972 CFL ROTY & MOP player in the 1972 Grey Cup. I remember getting off the plane & walking by Lunsford & Jonas who were off to the side & involved in a very, very serious conversation. I didn't think much of it until I was sleepily going to work a few hours later & heard on the radio that Jonas was gone to Hamilton for Ealey. What a shock!! I can tell you that announcement woke me up for sure. I can also say that I hated Lunsford so much after he made that trade. The guy was just a terrible GM who treated his players like ****. Yet, the Bombers BOD kept that useless .... around for 16 years until 1983.

It was great seeing BA so involved with all the youth outreach the Bombers do throughout the year... Visits to schools, youth camps and everything else.

Idk if Cline will be up here this year, if he is I don't think he will see the field. Likely a next year guy imo. This could be a huge L for grassroots up here. Sure, it is possible to turn around; some arenas have gone from NBA to NHL many times a month. But it is gonna be a PITA and will likely limit showcase games / lower level championship games, and is yet another sticking point for making the transition from college to pro. I hate the field/upright changes and I hope the CFL changes its mind.

Saw a couple guys get added to "future active" contracts on the transactions page: Nicholas Lenon DL La'Vontae Shenault WR I guess that means they will join the team next season. Shenault will sound familiar to NFL fans, his older brother Laviska Shenault has been in the NFL for 5 years.

I have a theory that gambling oddsmakers hate the 10-point swing that comes on a missed field goal TD return. this is totally idle speculation based on zero hard information, but the CFL isn't exactly being forthcoming about why they're changing the rules.

It's not a terrible trend if you compare the last three games to the rest of the season. Zach returns from injury and we beat Ottawa, we play the best half of the season against Edmonton but obviously fall apart and take the lose, then the best complete game of the season and beat Montreal. You never know what's going to happen in the LDC, but Sask hasn't been at their best recently and the last few weeks have been looking up for us a bit.

Yep, definitely meant Edmonton. That first half gave me more hope for this team in a while and then the 2nd half did the exact opposite. It wasn't even so much about the win/loss, it was the ineptitude we showed in the 2nd half of the game. We're very Jekyll and Hyde - we've shown the ability to compete and win with the best teams in the league but we've also shown the ability to not even show up in the slightest bit. You can even see this in the game against BC - leading in the 4th quarter with about 6 minutes to go and then we implode & let them do whatever they want to us.

I think you meant Edmonton... but yeah, if we were coming off back to back, complete game wins against the #1 team in the west and the #1 team in the east... there certainly would be more hopeful feelings around here

Ottawa also could have offered him an active roster spot. In that case, the Bombers need to activate him or let him go.

I don't think this week tells us much about anything unless it's a blow out. It's the LDC we rarely win, and it is almost always a very close game. Anyone looking for a sense as to the rest of our season will probably not get it this week.

Nobody has consistently separated themselves from the pack. Montreal's D is hugely suspect when the O isn't piling up TOP and their special teams are a problem. Edmonton is like a reverse 2010 Bombers, winning most of their games very tight, very reliant on opponent blunders, a couple amazing late game drives/plays of their own. BC seems to have their number though. Be part of the pack and peak in the next 10 weeks and you have as good of a chance as anyone. At this point BC is one of the scarier teams to me. When they play their best, they are the best. You just don't see it every week.

yup...makes a huge difference to an offence. As I said after last game that we have guys who just don't attack the ball but rather wait on it...and it kills us....Maybe they actually got coached up and this was addressed...cause up until that Al's game we were really bad at it, but in that game both Pokey and Neild did exactly that...and both has great games...who woulda thunk eh? Now they need to teach Pokey some ball security drills cause at times it's scary AF watching him with ball in traffic

yeah...Metrics scream possible big success up here on this field. I can see him mirroring what Schoen did if he masters that waggle....possibly more explosive as he is faster He runs very smooth which i think makes him seem like not as fast as time...but that's the beauty of it as it can fool a defence and they lose their angle in a blink of an eye...seems to have that knack of making moves without gearing down...like Denmark was good at, and then has the extra gear after he catches it being an undrafted guy...hopefully plays against him, but benefits us...may be a low priority waiver guy for most teams cause of that and stupid NFL thinking

9.73 RAS out of 10. That is an extremely elite score. He looks like more of a YAC guy than a downfield target. Though he should be fully capable of playing downfield. Hands look really good. He does not look 4.3 fast on the field, but he is smooth with good speed and acceleration. Some of that could be the offence he ran. It would be very interesting to see what he could do up here with all the room on the field, maybe even in the slot with the waggle.

Strong as an ox too...23 reps on the 225 Bench...Thats getting in elite numbers for a WR so could be a nice prospect to win contested balls

Saw the Bombers added Eli Pancol to their neg list the other day. 6'2 205 lbs former Duke receiver that runs a 4.33 40 time. Just got cut by the Colts. I don't know if he's ready to come north but that's an intriguing athlete.
